Syncing contact on one computer and iTunes media (music) on another

I have a desktop computer that serves as the family's itunes music and applications, and video library. I have sync'd my iphone with that computer for over a year. I also have a pc laptop that i use for work that is one of my authorized computers on the same itunes account. This is where my outlook account resides with all of my contacts. I have mobileme but have been reluctant to sync. my iphone (which has alot of contacts) with outlook using itunes because of the many stories i hear about deleting info. Now as I am about to take the leap, it seems I may not be able to sync contacts with my laptop, while continueing to sync the itunes media via my family desktop. I can't believe this is the case, but it is far from clear that i can do this, and all warnings as i start the process appear to indicate that it's going to delete those items i have sync'd from the other computer if i decide to sync. contacts with my laptop. Can i sync. my iphone with some non-itunes content (contacts) with one computer, and also sync. itunes content on a different computer?

Can i sync. my iphone with some non-itunes content (contacts) with one computer, and also sync. itunes content on a different computer?
Yes.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced or manually managed with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.
Contacts, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks can be synced with the supported applications on multiple computers.
There will be a warning message provided that your iPhone has been synced with an iTunes library on another computer, but if you don't select to transfer any iTunes content from your PC at work - don't select anything under the Music, Podcasts, Video, Applications, and Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on your PC at work.

I cannot for the life of me figure this out.

What you need to do is connect your phone to iTunes but do not click sync.  Go to File at the top and click transfer purchases from phone, that'll put all your apps into iTunes.  When it's done transferring, locate your phone on the sidebar and click it.  Then find the apps option above the picture of your iphone, you can select which apps you want or don't want on your phone.  After selecting your apps then you can sync.  Once you do this you should never have your problem anymore.

  • Syncing Contacts & Calendar Between Computer and Touch With Gmail?

I just got a touch. Now, how do I get my contacts and calendar (I run Address Book 4.1.2 and iCal 3.0.8 on Leopard) from my computer to my Touch?
I am a gmail user but have not done anything beyond the mail with it.
I see that address book has a "synchronize with Google" box to click in preferences but the iCal only has one for Mobile Me (for which I would rather not have to pay.)
If you can point me in the right direction that would be great.
    Thanks

I have both my iCal and my Address Book data synced between my iPod Touch and my Mac.
Where I got hung up is you don't do the sync through either application -- rather you use iTunes for the sync. I need to get my head around that but who cares. All is well and synced.

  • Using more than one ipod on one computer and itunes

I have a iPod mini but share a computer with my sister who just got the lastest nano. Can I add her ipod to my computer while my mini is already on there? Can we share the itunes and import the same songs to our ipods? How does it work? I use Windows XP but don't want to go through the hassel of have to Itunes running off one computer.
Thanks so much for any help!!!!!!

Don't know what an iPod mini is. To answer your question about sharing computer. You can use the same library if you want. THere are many ways to do that just make sure to not have them both plugged in at the same time.
Te easiest way to share would be to use one user account. Both iPOds would get the same libary and music.
The next way is to have two different user accounts. Have the music in a shared folder and you can both use the dame music files but can have different playlist and ratings.

  • What happens to VPN , Wifi settings and Email accounts on iPad if synced with a new computer and itunes account?

I have an Ipad with VPN,Wifi connections and email accounts already created . Now I want to sync it with another computer using a new account as this device is to be given to someone else. I want to know what will happen to the settings already made as I do not want them to change ?. Deletion of Apps and other media files is ok but the settings like VPN,Email account and Wi Fi shoudl not be reset.

    Wickedweapon-
Pre-installed Apps such as Mail, Camera, Photo Booth, Notes, et cetera, are kept.  Any iOS updates are retained.  Otherwise, the iPad is returned to its factory default settings.
If you planned to sell an iPad, you might go ahead and do the reset manually.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Erase All Content and Settings.  Doing this would ensure that any sensitive personal data is erased.

  • Multiple Ipods, one computer and itunes

I am interesting in buying an ipod, however, my wife already has one. Can we hook both of our ipods up to the same computer and music library?? What are our options? Thanks a lot.

By default, when you connect an iPod, iPod nano, or iPod mini to your computer, iTunes automatically copies the songs and playlists in your iTunes library to your iPod, and deletes songs from your iPod that aren't in your library.
You can also set up iTunes to automatically copy only certain songs or playlists, or to allow you to copy songs manually which you will want to do in this situation.
To copy songs manually from your iTunes library to your iPod, iPod nano, or iPod mini, first connect your iPod to your computer. When it appears in the Source list, choose iTunes > Preferences and click the iPod button. Click the Music button and select "Manually manage songs and playlists." Then drag songs from your library or playlist to iPod in the Source list.

  • Can u download itunes onto more than one computer and then download music??

I have downloaded itunes onto another computer and it won't let me update my ipod, just keeps asking me if I want to replace the songs on my ipod with the songs from this library. Which I don't want to do, I instead want to add more songs and maybe remove some stuff on my ipod!!!!

  • How do I set up a second phone on one computer and iTunes

I am in the process of getting a second iPhone 5, to help separate my work and personal life. But can't seem to find any information in how to set up a secondary phone.
It will be with the same mobile phone carrier, but will have a different phone number. Am I able to have a secondary phone on the one iTunes account, and if so how do I do it?
Or will,I need to set up separate users on my MacBook Pro, and have another identity to achieve this?

  • My children deleted my app store. I cant figure out how to get it back on my phone. I tried to sync it with the computer and itunes but that did not work.

My children deleted my app store on my iphone 4 and now I cant get it back on my phone. any suggestions?

As the App Store is pre-installed on the device, it can't really be removed.  I'm thinking the icon is either stashed on another folder, or it's been turned off.  If it's in a folder the only way to really find it is to look through all folders on your device for the icon.  To check if it's turned off, go to Settings > General > Restrictions (it will ask for a passcode, if your children went into restrictions they created this passcode if it didn't already exist) and make sure "Installing Apps" didn't get turned off (if it's turned off the icon disappears from the Home screens).
    Hope this is helpful

  • Activated iphone on one computer and now cant use on another

I was in Michigan for a couple of months and that is where I bought my iPhone in July. I activated it on my friend's computer up there and now my home computer in Georgia will not even recognize my iPhone when I connect it. I have tried erasing all data.

Not entirely sure about iPhoto as I don't have a mac, but when syncing from folder(s) only the contents of the most recent sync will be on the iPad - but I assume that iPhoto will be the same and will therefore remove the previous sync before putting the ones on. He also won't be able to copy them off before syncing as you can only do that with photos loaded via the camera connection kit or saved from emails/websties.

  • I bought TVshows on one computer and i need them on another help!

I had around 10 TV shows bought on iTunes but then my computer stoped working. Now i cant get to it on that computer so now i need to get to them on this one but i cant figure it out thanks in advance!

imho the best solution for that:
Set iTunes Preferences Burning to "DATA CD/DVD" & burn your videos onto such a disk.
A DATA CD/DVD is also a perfect backup.
But any other kind storage may be used for transferring videos/audio tracks as well: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93366

  • I have a fast connection to one computer and a slow connection to another; why?

I installed my brand new Airport Extreme last night and it's working just fine on all of my Apple products (MBP, iPhone, iPad), but on my wife's Windows laptop the connection is very slow. Is it possible that it has something to do with the Airport Extreme itself and the type of signal it sends out?

Hi, I'm taking over the posting here - I'm nicotomo's wife.
I've been using speedtest.net to check my speeds after trying to download Airport Utility for Windows multiple times, and have been averaging between .08 Mbps - .25 Mbps as opposed to my husband's 8 Mbps. He tested a lower 3 Mbps earlier today, but it is still worlds better than my speed.
When I test directly with the ethernet cord, I get speeds from 7 Mbps - 18 Mbps, so I highly doubt it is the internet connection itself.

  • Sync Books from one computer, movies from another?

The title describes it...is there a way to sync movies from one computer and my books from another computer to my iPad?  I have a Macbook Pro that I use mainly for work, but also use it for some personal stuff.  However, I keep all my movies on my iMac at home and the iTunes library there.  I keep all my books on my Macbook Pro.  Is there a way to make this work?  Or should I just get all my books onto my iMac?  That would be a chore, but would be doable.  I have been purchasing books on Kindle and then importing them into iBooks because the app is better.
Any suggestions would be greatly apprecaited!  Thanks in advance!

Yeah...that's probably what I will be doing.  A bit of a hassle as I use my MBP MUCH more than I use my iMac, but not too bad.  I use my iPad more for books and everything BUT watching movies.  However, I have a 2TB media server HD on my iMac where all my movie content lies.  My music is on my MBP, but use iTunes Match, so that's a wash.
The Kindle to iBooks thing is awesome.  A bit of a process, but awesome.  Here's the article that explains it all...

I LOVE IT!!!  Now my wife can can read the books on her Kindle and I can convert them and read them in iBooks! (At least until the hole is closed...)
