Syncing Contacts across platforms - MUST I use MobileMe?

Hey: so I've long kept contacts on my various Macs; in the past, I synced them to my Windows based phone and crappy windows computer at work via MissingSync. Now, I've got Contacts on the MacBook Pro, and in Outlook at work. I'm using enterprise data to bring my outlook mail to the iPhone; I've also got my gmail on there.
All this is to say: is it possible to sync contacts from Contacts->iPhone->Outlook->iPhone->Contacts, or can it only work between Contacts and the iPhone, and between the iPhone and Enterprise/Outlook, as two duplicate lists? What if I deleted my Contacts on the Mac, could I then sync the Enterprise contacts from the PC to the mac without duplication?
This is the only multiplatform thing I have to figure out and I can't see using MobilMe for just that. Any ideas will be appreciated!

You're welcome.
And most businesses that provide an Exchange account with ActiveSync enabled want it this way - they don't want business contacts made available on a personal computer and vice-versa.
You can't sync your Exchange contacts from your PC direct to your iPhone, but if you are accessing your Exchange account with Outlook on your PC, you can transfer all personal contacts available in Outlook that are not on the Exchange server to the Exchange server, which will make the contacts available on your iPhone.
If your Mac is running Snow Leopard, you can access your Exchange account with the Mail.app as an Exchange account via ActiveSync, which will provide for over the air syncing for contacts with the Address Book and over the air syncing for calendar events with iCal.

  • Problems Syncing Contacts Across iOS 8

Hey guys (I'll keep this as brief as possible),
In case you need to know my device models/OS to help me, here they are:
    iPhone 6 (iOS 8.0.2)
    iPad 3rd Gen (iOS 8.0.2)
Macbook Pro w/ Ret (OS X Mav 10.9.5)
I've been trying to sync "Contacts" across all 3 devices via iCloud to no avail.  I've edited my iPhone contacts list extensively, so I'm trying to sync that over to my iPad and my Macbook Pro, but it's not working.  On both the iPhone and iPad, I've turned the "Contacts" toggle off and then on under the iCloud tab in settings, and that didn't do anything.  I don't think it's a problem with iCloud, because it's updating my "Reminders" across all 3 devices just fine, but isn't taking any of my contact adjustments that I'm making on my iPhone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for your time, everyone!
    Kind Regards,
    Niloy

You probably already have done this: Within the Contacts app on the iPad and iPhone, click on Groups (top left corner) and make sure you have iCloud ticked.
I don't know if this is important, but under Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, scroll down to the Contacts section and see if your Default Account is iCloud.
I did do that early on.  I eventually got it solved, though.  But I really appreciate you trying to help, my friend.  Thank you!

what hosting platform must i use with iweb? unix or microsoft? This is a question from my ISP.

You should always pick Linux hosting and NOT Windows - this causes more problems than it is worth.
If your ISP is asking this question, then consider changing - they should know this.

  • Syncing iCal Across Platforms

I am trying to sync my iCal calendars across platforms (Macbook, iPad, iPhone), but I cannot figure out how to create a calendar on my Macbook on the cloud.  Whenever I create a calendar, it seems to save it to my computer and not to the cloud. (Thus it doesn't sync).  I am not really interested in having any calendars on my computer anymore that aren't iCloud synced.  Any suggestions would be appreciated!  Thanks...

Have you migrated to iCloud, and have you turned iCloud services on (for your Mac)
System Preferences>iCloud, select the services (calendars etc) you want.

  • Syncing Contacts across Apple products

I have all my contacts on my BB and now have a Macbook, Ipad and Iphone4, how do I best upload my contacts across all of them, without iCLOUD?

I too have no desire to put my contacts in the Icloud. I have MacBook Pro, Ipad 2 and Ipod Touch. Here is the workaround I came up with last night so that I do not have to hand enter all updates and new people to Contacts on all three devices..
Ok so you have three devices with Contacts. You want to update a friend's work phone.
Here’s what you do: update the contact on one device. Then while you are in Contacts click on the arrow in the right hand bottom corner and tell it you want to email that contact card to yourself.
Open the email with the contact card on Device Two and click on the .vcf file that is attached. It will then save/update the contact information in that Device Two's  Contacts.
Open the email with the contact card on Device Three and repeat the process.
Walah! you can update without retyping the information three times and you can keep your personal information and other people's contact information out of the Cloud.
I keep waiting for Apple to update Maverick and restore our ability to sync Contacts, Calendar and Booksmarks via I-Tunes and without using the Cloud.

  • How to sync Contacts from iPhone to iCal or MobileMe?

I have ONE copy of Contacts that is correct: on my iPhone.
I really need to push the contacts from my iPhone to my empty MobileMe AddressBook or to my empty iCal AddressBook.  I've spent an hour researching this on the Web. Does anyone know how to push the Contacts in this direction?
I had thought that iTunes Sync of Contacts was always two-way (KB article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386 says it is!); but apparently, with the iPhone, it is only one way (if a Mac Address Book or the MobileMe AddressBook is empty, the sync will wipe the contacts off the iphone).
    Desperately need help.  Thanks!

OK, I finally got it fixed.  And I figured out my missteps, too.  Here you go (I tested it three times, and part of the testing procedure included deleting ALL data in MobileMe AND the AddressBook on my Mac):
Procedure for Pushing Good Set of Contacts on iPhone to all other platforms
Problem: Your iPhone has your only good set of contacts.  Your iCal and MobileMe (cloud) contacts are not there or corrupted.
Complication: If you try to delete your corrupted MobileMe Contacts on the cloud in preparation for pushing the valid set of contacts from the iPhone up to the MobileMe cloud, the system tends to do a one-way sync and immediately delete all your iPhone contacts (the good set!).
    Solution and procedure:
For starters, forget about iTunes.  We are not going to use it at all for this procedure.
Back up Address Book on the Mac.  OK, so this copy might be corrupted or incomplete; do it anyway: File, Export, Address Book Archive.  It keeps your groups and their member sets, too.
Go into MobileMe Settings on your Mac, then to the Sync tab.  Make sure sync is set to Manual.  You can leave Sync turned on; it won't sync until you tell it to, because you just set it to Manual.
OK, we're assuming your iPhone has the best, correct set of AddressBook Contacts, Groups, and Group member lists.
So now put your iPhone in Airplane mode.  MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU DO THIS!!!
On the iPhone, go to Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, MobileMe, and turn OFF Contacts in Settings on iPhone.  The iPhone should immediately give you a prompt.  Make sure you press "Keep contacts on iPhone," NOT "Delete."  (And if you don't get that message, something is wrong.)
Check to make sure Contacts and Groups are still there on iPhone.  They should be.  Double check to make sure your iPhone is in Airplane Mode.
Now open AddressBook on Mac and delete all Contacts AND all Groups.  (You can always recover these from the earlier backup you made.)
Then delete ALL contacts in MobileMe on the Web.
MAKE SURE MAC ADDRESS BOOK AND MOBILEME ADDRESS BOOK ARE EMPTY.
    Log off MobileMe.
Check to see that Contacts are still on the iPhone, and that there is only ONE set of groups.  And you should still be in Airplane Mode!
On iPhone, turn back ON Contacts.  You may get the message "The contacts you previously synced with your Mac will be merged with Mobile Me."  (This message is a bit confusing, but don't worry about that.)  (If you don't get that message, something is wrong.)  Click on "Merge" to turn back ON Contacts on iPhone.
Take iPhone out of Airplane Mode.
Go to iPhone desktop, double press the black menu button, and close all Apps.
Now reboot iPhone immediately.  (Very important!  Procedure doesn't always work unless you do this.)
Once rebooted, check to see that Contacts are still there on the iPhone, and that there is only ONE set of groups.  If AddressBook starts syncing while you're doing this, let it finish before you do anything else.
Now open MobileMe.  Go to Contacts.  The procedure should have synced the Contacts properly.  If you see zero Contracts in the All Contacts group, go to a subgroup, and then back; or go to a different part of MobileMe (Calendar, etc.), and then come back to AddressBook.  All your contacts should then appear in the full Address Book.
    Log off MobileMe.
Open Address Book on Mac.  It should still be empty.  Close it.
Open MobileMe settings on Mac.  Go to Sync tab.  Click on Advanced button on bottom right.  Select the current computer you're on and make SURE it stays selected.
    Now click "Reset Sync data."
Change graphic of platform sync to "Cloud---->Computer."
    Set "Replace" to Contacts.
    Hit Replace.
This should immediately populate your AddressBook on your Mac with the correct info from the MobileMe cloud.  Open AddressBook and make sure it did, and that the groups are there and populated.
Now, if all three platforms have correct info, you can go to MobileMe settings on Mac, Sync tab, and change it to "Synchronize with MobileMe automatically" to keep MobileMe and iCal on your Mac in sync.  (MobileMe and your iPhone are already set up to sync automatically per earlier steps in this procedure.)
Now that you have a good copy of your Contacts and Groups in AddressBook on your Mac, backup it up.

  • How to sync contacts across multiple devices

I have a iPhone, iMac and iPad that I am having trouble keeping my contacts in sync!
Some contacts do not appear across all devices and others appear duplicated on one or more device.
After much checking of the settings and trying to merge contacts, I have still not managed to sort the problem.
    David

First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.
This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Address Book.

  • [HOW TO] Sync contacts across different devices.

Well recently ran into a problem, i had to get a new phone due iphone giving up the ghost, so switched to a Android device, now i wanted to transfer all my contacts over from my iphone to my android.
I followed countless instructions, but always faced the same hurdles, itunes failed to sync my contacts to google via itunes, it just kept getting stuck in the enter pass word loop, which no one seems to be able to fix.
I then tried adding an exchange account, but this also failed, it failed at the login, then even when i finally got it to login, it failed to sync with no user input to tell it to sync it was looking bleak.
With frustration i tried adding a CardDAV account, this too kept failing on the varification process.
At this point it seemed that OS was doing all it could to stop me syncing my contacts to move them to a new device.
So i thought id search the App store for something that would do the job for me.
    And now im here.
First off if you have faced the same issues as me, then please save your self a head ache and just do this.
On your iphone > app store > search for NQ contacts sync.
    Download and install it.
On your Adroid device > Play store > search NQ contacts sync.
    Download and install it.
On your iphone, open NQ contacts that has now installed on your iphone, create new account, put in your email, and chose a password (not the same one you use for your email account) once created, drag your finger from the bottom of the screen (still in HQ) from the icon that shows your contacts, to the cloud on the top of the screen. this will transfer your contacts to NQ servers.
On your Android device, sign in with the NQ account you just made. it will automatically sync your contacts to your android device.
    Job done.
link for NQ contacts sync on appstore.
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/nq-contacts-sync/id450088684?mt=8
Link for NQ contact sync on playstore.
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.netqin.contactbackup&feature=n av_result#?t=W10.
Why it takes a third party app to actually do a hassle free contacts transfer is beyond me, between google and apple i was about to throw both phones out of the window and go back to using a note pad and a house phone, they have made it so complicated that it causes more hassle than its worth.
And no i have nothing to do with NQ, i just found it so frigging easy to do something two major companys couldnt get wright in the first place i thought id share to help others out.

Sorry for double post, doesnt seem to be an edit option, this also works both ways.

  • Unable to sync contacts and calendar from Q10 using BB Link

I am using Blackberry Link version 1.2.2.13 and each time I try to synchronize my Blackberry Q10 to my Laptop (Windows XP OS),  I receive the message "Sync was unsuccessful- Unable to process organizer data." I have reset the settings, removed the device, reset the sync relationships as well as reinstalling the software, but nothing had resolved my issue. I have been a loyal Blackberry consumer for the last 6-7 years and would hate to have to switch to another brand because of something like this.
I am also noticing that while I may be receiving that message, The information of contacts are being shuffled around among other contacts. I have reset the handset to factory default, but the problem continues.

This is exactly what I am dealing with. Blackberry Link will work great for awhile and then something happens and I can not sync my contacts. I have spent many hours and days trying to fix this to no avail. BB support has been great but I still go through a long process each time. This week I finally gave up and started using the Microsoft Hotmail Outlook Connector since my company does not offer Active Sync or Exchange. It works flawlessly. I would dedfinitely check it out. If you swith to a Widows Phone or Android this is one of the options they recommend you use.
In a nutshell Link is awful and BB should be ashamed of the product they put on the market. I will only use it for syncing pictures and documents. Good luck!

  • Syncing Aperture library between two computers using MobileMe and DropBox

I'd like to have my Aperture library automatically sync'd between my MacBookPro and iMac.
I have MobileMe and I'd ideally like to use it to sync, however I believe Aperture sees the library as a large single file, and so is not really practical to do this.
I believe DropBox does handle this better, but I only have the 2GB free version, and don't want to upgrade while I'm paying for MobileMe (which I use mainly for iPhone syncing).
So, I was wondering would keeping the RAW and JPEG images in my iDisk (outside the library) and using a library in my DropBox folder using referenced master files to the images seem like a workable solution?
I appreciate I need to only use one system at a time and make sure it's all sync'd before using the other computer or risk corruption.

Just curious - why do you think it would be slow?
With iDisk sync turned on the master images would be on the local hard drive, as would the library in the DropBox folder. Might have to use a symbolic link or mount to make the local hard disk iDisk folder appear in the exact same location on both machines, though maybe not even that?

  • Syncing contacts across devices

    Hi
I'm having issues with trying to get one set of contacts to display across all my devices.
Whereabouts do I create my master set of contacts and how do I then get that to be the same on my iPhone/laptop/iCloud/iPad?
Currently after much frustration, I have my Address book on my laptop exactly how I want it and also my iPhone but my iCloud contacts are still the old set.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Cheers

p.s. I should add that I am now running IOS6, which hasn't made any difference

  • Deleting a contact group on iPhone (not using mobileme)

I am trying to delete a contact group on my iPhone and can't find how to. I do not use Mobile Me which I have read a bit about but can;t for the life of me find a way to delete the group!!

For instance, I use Windows Address Book, because I don't want all my contacts from Outlook on my phone, but you could use Outlook or another contact manager. I went into WAB, found the extra group entries, and deleted them. This does not delete contacts in the group, if any.
Then on the next sync, they were corrected. If you have spurious ones left over from another sync method, in iTunes , choose "info", and down the page under "Advanced", "Replace Info on this iPhone", Choose "Contacts". On the next sync, it should look right.

  • Iphon 2.1 - can u sync "contacts in personal folders" when using exch2003?

I don't have an IPhone nor do I want an Iphone, so I have little to no experience with the phones, but I have an owner that has one and once he upgraded to 2.0/2.1 he was no longer able to sync his outlook 2003 "contacts in personal folders" folder to his iphone via itunes /sync sw using usb cable. He had an issue where there was a LinkedIn 'collected contacts' folder and it originally was synced with the phone after the update. We have since gotten rid of the linked in toolbar successfully and after resetting sync history and attempting another sync that folder was no longer showing in the sync software/on the phone. Now it just shows the 'contacts' folder and we can not get it to sync with the 'contacts in personal folder", which is in the complaint unicode formatted type pst. Should he be able to by design to sync to the 'contacts in personal folder' with this version even though his outlook is defaulted to his exchange account? He has nothing in his exchange 'contacts' folder that he wants nor needs to sync to his iphone and NO we are not setup to sync/use the iphone with our exchange server or have plans to do so.
Any links to specific documentation on the subjects and/or specific facts on the true behavior of the phone and software version with the aforementioned outlook account setups would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I have the exact same problem. I am syncing the email and calender with an MS Exchange account. In iTunes, I set the Contact to sync with Outlook. After upgrading the iPhone software, the next sync wiped out all my contacts on the iPhone. It used to be able to sync the contacts in the Outlook 2007 Personal Folder. Now, it just won't do it. It just keeps the contacts from the Exchange Contact list.
THis is a huge problem. Anyone with any solutions? Apple?
