Syncing Contacts by company Name

When I sync with Outlook 2003 Iphone strips out the data from the "file as" field for company contacts without a personal contact name in Outlook.
Also I have not found a way for iPhone to store/display by company name instead of personal name.
Is this just how it is or am I missing something?
Charles

It is kind of a pain, but I set up a seperate Contact Folder for my iPhone and changed the format of contanct information. I put the +Comany Name+ in the First Name Field (you can also use Last Name) and put the Contact Name in the Company Field. This sorts by Company Name. Whrer I have mutiple contacts at a company with direct lines adn seperate email addresses, i simple put a - and the contacts first name following the Comapny Name in the First Name field. Just make sure to set sync folder to iPhone contact folder.

  • N97 How to sort contacts by company name

Is it possible to sort contacts by company name rather than first name, last name etc?

This is a HUGE shortcoming of Nokia's contacts app, which is still the most awkward and "old style numeric keypad telephone" oriented applications in the Nokia software suite on smartphones.
It's the only reason why I am still sometimes missing my Blackberry. There you find everything so quickly, and not only just typing in the individual's name, nor having to use that Nokia general search tool.
But now that Nokia FINALLY introduced a year ago "finding names typing", without launching the contacts application first I still have the hope that Nokia will release one day a REALLY user friendly, fast and flexible fully integrated agenda suite...

  • How can I sync only the company name with a sony cellphone

I've a problem to sync my adressbook with a sony cellphone.
In the adressbook there is sometimes only the company name and the phonenumber.
when I'm syncing with the sony cellphone the name looks like that " -, apple"
that's not what I want. Is there a way to repair this bug, or do I have to copy the company name into the surname field?

    It's not a bug - it's a limitation of Sony Ericsson phones.
When programming the operating system of the phones, Sony Ericsson obviously took the decision to store contacts first and last names in one field not two.
So, unless you can persuade Sony Ericsson to change this operating system feature, and release upgraded firmware for all affected phones, you'll have to live with it.

  • Can I sync calendar on COMPANY name instead of person's name

I just traded in my Blackberry Pearl - lots easier to manipulate contacts - could sync contacts (Outlook) either by name or company - can I do it with this thing?

No, you cannot. The iPhone does not support syncing by fields nor does it support categories.

  • SORT CONTACTS BY COMPANY NAME

Why don't my contacts sort the same way they are sorted in Outlook? We are a business, we need to sort by a company name not by contact name. Please help.

I don't work for Apple so I can't speak on their behalf as to their desire to infiltrate the business mobile market.
All I can do is tell you what the iPhone can and can not do and recommend work arounds for problems that you may be having. From what you have said, you require a feature that the iPhone does not support and the only work around is not satisfactory to you. Given that information, the iPhone is not a good fit for your business needs so you should look into a competing product.
No one product can be all things to all people. It is up to you to decide if having an iPhone is worth the sacrifices/work arounds necessary.

  • N97 mini - Contact Sort Company, Name

    Hello
my  N97 mini is for Business use and  I am using Mail for Exchange. Everything works perfect.
I synchronize Mails, Contacts, dates and tasks  with Exchange.
In Exchange-Contacts are, along with other contact details, for me the important fields Name and Company.
When I synchronize, these fields are copied correct to the N97 mini .
In N97 mini i want to display Contacts in alphabetic order, using the fields Company, Name
I cant find settings to realize this
    Can anybody help ?
    Thanks

I find this part of my iPhone completely weird.
With my Treo running Agendus I could see all my Contacts by their company name and the contacts name alongside. If I did a search by name or company got a result.
However with 4000 contacts in my AB/iPhone searching for people by their names is difficult. For instance, living in Wales, where Jones, Jenkins, Evans, Davies etc are very common names I could have 20 people called David Jones but only 1 that works for ACME plumbing.
Also I may want to speak to three people from Acme Plumbing, but I can't remember their surname.
At the moment my solution to this is to create Groups in AB and split my contacts amongst these i.e zip codes, company sector etc. Also I use the App ABContacts which allows you to see the Contact Name under the Company name or vice versa.
This is the one area where I really do miss my Palm Treo/Agendus

  • I would like sort my contacts by company name.

The only way sofar to do this, is create a new contact and enter the company name only and save it. Then edit and add your contacts First and Last name and save again. Example enter Apple in Company and save. Then edit and enter John Dow and save again. Now it will sort by company name. If you enter John Dow and Apple all at the first time it will sort by the person only. I cannot believe there is not a more efficient way to do this or an option that can be used. Any body has found a better way jet?!!

Yes you can "sort" by Company Name BUT....you cannot "search" by Company Name -- when you try a search it just keeps searching in the "name" fields and does NOT return a Company Name.
--if you know the name of the person you want to call (which you more than likely will) then searching by name is fine
    but
--if you can't remember their name (or there are multiple names) but want to look up the company and then scroll through list of names at that company -- forget it -- I can't make it work.

  • IOS 7 Update Can't Map by Contact's Company Name???

Just updated my Apple Gear hoping I wouldn't regret it...
Being in outside sales, it was extremly helpful to be able to plan meetings based on the distance between two companies loaded in as contacts. So what I would do is open maps, click directions, and start typing the company itself. The contact info would load as if you were typing in someone name. The new software doesn't recognize the company as a searchable function if there is a name associated with it.
I know you can click the address while you load it up in contacts and get directions "to or from here", but when you're trying to map the distance between Company A and Company B you can't.
In business, searching by name is not as efficient since there are 50 Mikes in my phone and more often than not an employee is going to change before the company name will.
I see google maps can load by company name, but that scares me because it's not using my preloaded contact (confirmed) information. Which is risky to plan around unconfirmed addresses as well.
Has anyone found a way to have the maps app fix this? Am I missing something? I understand you're never going to please everyone but going backwards a step in usefulness? I'm sure there are other apps and stuff that can do this, but I was comfortable with the apple maps version and it's something that was previously achievable.
    Thank you!

    How about trying this...
Delete that contact from your Contacts app completely (maybe write down or copy the pertinent information to a Remember note first).
Reboot your device (powered on, remove the battery, reinsert battery)
Open your Contacts app and check for that contact, is it still there or completely deleted?
Check ALL your contacts lists (turn on your SMS contacts and all others, make sure all instances are deleted.
If so, add it back, skipping the Company field... does it self-populate again?

  • How do I change contact list so it is NOT organized by COMPANY name?

When moving to the 2.0 code on my old iPhone, I incorrectly told the system to organize my contacts by company name and not by the person's name. I cannot figure out how to change my contact list back to be organized by people's name. This is very frustrating because it affects caller ID, call history lists, etc.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

If you have a mac you launch contacts, highlight the ones you wish to change and select "This is a company" to cycle back and forth. With a non mac you may have to do it within the .me environment.

  • Sort Contacts by Company Workaround

I keep all contacts on the iPhone and do not sync. I create a complete contact record for each person and sort and display them by last name. I then create a "contact" for each company, putting the company name in the Last Name field. I then "Add Field" and use the "Note" field to list all contact names with their title. This works as a simple cross reference to look up contacts by company name, and then go to their detail information. It's actually quite easy when there are only a few contacts at each company.

Since I started the company "contact" concept after creating full details for some individuals, the first company entries contain only names in the Note field. Now, I'll start putting the company address in that record, and just phone numbers, email address, etc. in the individual contact entries.
Note: I originally synced with my Outlook contacts, but so much garbage came over that I decided to not do that anymore after an extensive cleanup on the iPhone, leaving a small file of about 200 contacts. I just discovered the Windows Address Book option, and have synced with that to give me a clean backup.

  • Show Company names

I have managed to sync my Sony Ericsson mobile phone with the Address Book on my computer. However, nearly all my addresses are listed by company name, with the name of the principal contact below; when I sync, all the entries on the phone are listed by the name of the person, not the company, which is less useful to me. I can find no setting to change this - anyone know of a way?

There isn't a way unfortunately. Sony Ericsson phones don't have an option to list contacts by Company Name. It will only show the Company Name if there is no person name entered.

  • Search ("filter") addresses by company name

I regret the possibility of searching a contact by company name (with Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0.290) is not available. Can I hope this feature (or a full text search) will be added in near future? Is there a better place to post a proposal than here?

I basically agree the E90 "features" can make you angry at times.
Like when you download an lmx GPS position file or open one from the phone and try to navigate but when using the lmx file the landmarks stored in the phone is not available.
    Stupid things like that.
But with the barcode reader Nokia forgot to tell you it is not intended for ordinary one-line barcodes, but for 2D codes. And the use of 2D barcodes is unlimited.
2D barcodes can be put on business cards, websites, posters, T-shirts, labels, wall posts and much more.
Once you have the barcode in front of you, you can scan it with your mobile and obtain a text string.
The neat thing is if the text string is an URL the phone can download any web content as long as it understands the MIME type of data sent.
MIME type is supplied in the message HTTP header. (For most file types the web server supplies the correct MIME type. For Nokia landmark *.lmx it has to be added to the server config or sending web application)
It means your business card could have a 2D barcode with an URL leading to a vcard file on a web server where the phone fetches it and asks if you want to save it in your contact book of the phone.
You can use 2D-barcodes for downloading landmark *.lmx files from a web site by just pointng your camera to the web page and off you go to your destination using the built in GPS.
You can read more and create your own codes here:
    http://mobilecodes.nokia.com
Nokia has a server that delivers barcode images if you want to use them on a website.

If can't, this will be a very good addition for the next version...keep this in mind you developing team!
