Syncing Contacts multiple times

When I sync my iphone through iTunes it syncs my contacts and calendar even though I have specified that I don't want to sync the local copy. I only want to sync with mobile me. If I look at all of my calendars and contact groups, I have two of everything, one for mobile me, one synced from my mac. Anyone know how to fix this?

Jabber for Windows 10.5 shows contacts from Address Book multiple times?

What would cause Jabber for Windows 10.5.1 to show a contact multiple times from the address book when searching? See attached screenshot.

I tried removing firefox and rebooting/reinstalling Jabber with no luck. I reimaged my machine and loaded 10.5.2 fresh install with no previous versions and still getting the random crash. Also, I have users who say it has crashed on them during a WebEx and have had installation problems when upgrading from 9.x to 10.5.x. Version 9 is very solid, sticking with 9.7.5. I have about 10% of my test users having varying problems with version 10.5.x, waiting till the next release. Hopefully Cisco will spend a few more weeks testing the next one before publishing it on their site.

Also, when you finally get frustrated and want to downgrade, Jabber 10.5.x doesn't uninstall completely and you end up with an error like the image attached when you try to install v9.7.5 for example and can't install Jabber even after rebooting. I had to run Microsoft Fix It install/Uninstall option and tell it to uninstall Jabber before Windows allowed me to install an older version of Jabber. Not too happy with this release. Strange enough though, some of my users have the exact same laptop I do, same windows build, same patches, etc, and it works fine for them. Anyway, not deploying this one. Good luck.

According the this: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html, "After moving to iCloud, family member accounts are no longer linked to the master account." You can share an iCloud calendar (see http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690), but I don't think you will be able to share iCloud contacts unless you are signed into the same iCloud account on both phones.

Why are contacts added to address book multiple times?

Contacts in my iphone are now found rewriting over & over many, many times; appearing in address book with repeated phone numbers (the same number) over and over. Why/how can I stop this?

My iPhone won't sync with my iTunes because it says I need to download the latest version of iTunes, which I already did. I've tried to redownload multiple times but it just keeps telling me I already have it downloaded.

I have already downloaded the latest version of iTunes, and I have retried multiple times just incase and it says I already have the latest version downloaded. It sounds like you have downloaded iTunes from the download site, but when you connect the phone to your computer you are prompted to update iTunes to 11.1. I would start by opening iTunes and then verifying the version that is running with this article:

On Windows
Open iTunes.
On the Help menu, click About iTunes. A window appears with scrolling text. The first text that appears displays the iTunes version (press the Space bar to freeze the text if it's moving too fast for you to read).
Also when you download the iTunes installer, you MUST double click the file that was downloaded to install it.
You can check in your Programs folder and try running the iTunes application from there to see if that works.

Syncing Contacts Takes Long Time

I am a fairly new iPhone user syncing to a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8. It seems my syncing of contacts takes an unusually long time. I only have 240 contacts in Address Book and even if I have not made any changes to a contact, iTunes sits on Syncing Contacts for several minutes. Eventually it does move on to Calendar, Notes, etc. but those all go very quickly. The couple of times that the contacts sync quickly it seems like some updates did not actually sync. Something seems wrong.
Any ideas what could be going on or more importantly, how I can correct this slow syncing?

Here is some additional information on this issue. After a visit to the local Genius Bar today we were able to determine that the problem of the long contact sync time is associated with iTunes trying to sync the contacts with Yahoo. The solution would be to stop that sync process. The problem is we can't figure out how to do that.
We have unchecked the sync. to Yahoo option in iTunes but it still tries to sync even with that choice unselected. In fact, the Yahoo box opens two times on each sync. If I hit cancel, the contacts sync right away.
The Apple Genius says the only suggestion he has is to do an archieve & install of the OS. This seems to be a radical alternative.
I have deleted every preference file I can think of, have reset the iSync software to first sync status and nothing seems to help. I searched these discussion boards and several people have raised this issue but no one seems to have a solution. A search of the Internet has not yielded any results either. I suspect there is a preference file somewhere that I am missing.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Syncing Contacts for the 1st Time

I already have an iPhone and now my husband just bought his. I want to sync his contacts for the first time onto my computer using Microsoft Outlook.
If I click on "Sync Contacts with Outlook"and put a checkmark next to "All Contacts," will it be his contacts be merged into mine or will they be separate? Where will "all contacts" be placed into my Microsoft Outlook? I don't have a separate folder for his contacts. I created one but it's empty and I'm afraid if I check the box where it says "selected groups" and then sync it, it'll be empty since the folder is already empty.
I hope this makes sense. I could use some help on this.

So you're saying that empty folder I created with his name, put a contact in there? And then when I click on "Synch Contacts with Outlook," check "selected groups" and have his folder selected and then that one contact I made will be merged with his own contacts on his phone? I'm so worry about doing this because we don't have a backup for his contacts as it is.

Just got to say, mobile me is incredibly fragile. Apple should rename the service mobile beta.
I have two problems,
1) "Contacts cannot be synced at this time because another computer is currently syncing this data". I have two PCs and made some changes to the adress book. Now I get this error every fifteen minutes on my work PC. This is incredibly annoying. I am guessing that there is a dialog box displayed on my home PC warning that more than 5% of my data has changed and do I want to continue.
Apple, please take this dialog box out of the Sync transaction operation otherwise it looks the entire process for all clients, if a user cannot access their PC at that moment to respond to the dialog.
2) I created a new Address book Group on the server/cloud and populated it with several addresses. On my iPhone the group is shown but it is empty. Is this possibly related to the problem (1)?.
Anybody have any suggestions? Is my idea about the cause correct?

You could try again later but usually, that message means that the server detected a jailbroken device. Has your iPad been hacked or jailbroken? Or, has your computer been used with a hacked or jailbroken device?

Have to click multiple times to select in sync window

I am having a problem syncing my devices (iphone 4, ipod nano 6th). In iTunes when I go to the sync screen for either device and I click on the artists they do not get a check mark next to them. If I click multiple times (some times as many as 6 or 7) then eventually, I get a check mark and they sync. I have this problem with Artists, playlists, genres. I do not have this problem with albums.
How can I correct this?
Also, for my iphone it is trying to sync a playlist which I no longer have on my computer. In some file the data to sync is corrupt.

My first thought is that the trackpad needs to be adjusted or that it needs to be replaced. Adjustment can be done quickly at the genius bar, replacement takes a couple days. Open System Preferences and select the trackpad. The first option you see should be 'tap to click' which will let you simply tab the trackpad to simulate a click. If that works you can be pretty certain it is mechanical and requires a trip to an Apple store.

My problem is that my iCal won't sync from my first-generation iPad to my computer, and the computer sends events multiple times back to the iPad... which is now full of duplicate events. I'm NOT on iCloud.

I'm just an old lady who doesn't know a lot about this stuff, but I do love my iPad and miss my portable calendar! My problem is that my iCal won't sync from my (first-generation, cheaper of the two models) iPad to my computer, and the computer sends events multiple times back to the iPad... which is now full of duplicate events. There's no simple answer to that. My calendar goes back to 2004 and is moderately busy; it took around an hour. It's possible that you've hit a slow period on the server - it happens.
In order for it to work, your calendars should show on the MobileMe site, they should be listed under your MobileMe login name in the calendar list in iCal (calendars listed under 'On My Mac' will not sync) and your MM account details have to be entered in iCal Preferences>Accounts (this should have happened by itself).
