Syncing contacts never finishes

I've been syncing my iphone now for hours. It is stuck on syncing contacts. Tried restoring and same thing. Getting fed up.

Okay, I feel stupid, but also irritated at the sync process. The hang up WAS that dialog box notifying me that more than a certain percentage of my calendar was going to change, asking if I wanted it to do so. ARRRRGGGHH! I couldn't find that box until I went to restart the computer. It is NOT an iTunes box. Therefore when I push F10 to see all the windows open in iTunes, it did not come up. It is a box in iSync, apparently. But I didn't even know there was such a thing as iSync. That's what program does the sync, but it does not show up in the dock, even when it's running. The stupid dialog box apparently doesn't stay visible during the whole sync process, so when I set it to sync and walked away, the box must have come up, then disappeared. The only way I can think to find it is to push F9 to show ALL windows open in any program.
So the moral of the story is if your phone seems to take forever to sync (never finishes) especially if it's sticking while syncing Contacts or Calendar, and no error message comes up telling you what happened, look for the box asking if it's okay to continue even though a lot is changing. Hit F9! Mine had been set to notify me if more than 5% was changing. My husband is the one that found it and he changed the setting so it only comes up if more than 50% is changing. I almost didn't come back to tell you what happened because I was embarrassed since I said right in my first post that this wasn't the problem. But maybe this will save someone from having to go through the whole restore process like I did.
On the bright side, restoring factory settings wasn't as bad as I feared it would be. It automatically asked and backed up all my settings as part of the process and all my aps and info came back without a hitch when I set them to sync again.

  • Why does the "Finishing Sync" stage never finish?

When syncing both my iPhone 5S and my iPad 3rd generation the sync progresses well and all items appear to transfer properly.  But when the last stage of "finishing sync" arrives the system seems to hang indefinately and never actually finishes.  I have to "eject" each product to force sync to quit.  I don't notice any bad behaviour on either product, but the lack of completion concerns me.  I have gone so far as the RESTORE the iPhone, set it up as a new device, and manually reconfigure all the settings and re-synce all my apps, music and photos and I still get the same result.  I did notice the first time a sync was performed it completed quickly as expected but all subsequent attempts hang up on the finishing sync stage.
Any suggestions on how to rectify this issue are appreciated.

    Hello jb2000,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535?viewlocale=en_US
Connect the device to your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. If your device isn't visible in the upper right corner of the screen, choose Library.
Click the Summary tab and unselect "Manually manage music and videos."
    Then try to sync again
    Best of luck,

  • "Collect contacts" never finishes

    Hi,
I'm trying to transfer contacts from my iPhone 4 to a Sony Xperia SP. I tried both from the iPhone 4 itself (which basically just uses iTunes) and from my PC (allgedly from Outlook, as my contacts are there too).
PC Companion starts the process with the "Collect contacts" step, but it doesn't seem to finish - I've had it running for at least an hour importing contacts from iTunes without progressingn to the next step.
Of course I tried to switch it off and back on again without much success.
I also tried to import VCF files into the phone, but Android is very bad at this task and it imports nothing (tried both DOS and UNIX end of line styles).
    Has anybody experienced anything similar?
    iTunes version: 11.latest
OS: Windows 7 (latest security patches and so on)
    Thanks!
    Gabriel

    Go to Solution.

To answer my own question: I just used Xperia transfer and selected contacts. That seemed to work just fine.
In hindsight, this experience has been awful - something that should be as simple as transfering a bunch of VCF files to a device and import them turned out into a multiple application installation exercise that spawned over a couple of hours.
Sony - reflect! Why don't you use Sailfish OS in your devices (or something similar)? These kind of things just work... Contact/Data migration should be a must have feature as people should be free to switch among devices/OS's at their own will.

  • My Sync never finishes it says "waiting for changes to be applied"

When trying to sync, it never finishes.  It says "waiting for changes to be applied" and sits there forever.

    Hi, haroldfm2013.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Normally this message indicates system information changes being applied on the iOS device.  However, this could be related to security software conflicts.  I would recommend going through the troubleshooting steps in the article below.

  • IPhone never finishes syncing

I have an iPhone 3G and all of a sudden, I am unable to complete a sync. The iTunes will stop responding in the middle of it as it says "Finishing Sync". I tried my other PC and it did the same thing. No music or ringtones will sync either. I tried just one song. It wiped out my songs already on my iPhone. What can I do to get iTunes to finish syncing? Could it be my phone? I have yet to download Ver 4.1. I am too scared.

After browsing through several similar posts, "https://discussions.apple.com/message/11273586#11273586" got me to try to un-sync contacts. That got the sync to finish as before. Further posts seemed to indicate that a corrupt file would cause this never ending sync. I think that's true since not syncing the contacts fixed the problem. I don't know how to fix corrupt contacts.
    Anybody have a suggestion.

  • Downloaded new ios7 and new itunes 11.1 and now iphone 4 won't finish syncing - just stays on last step and never finishes or cancels on its own. Tried reinstalling itunes with no success.

Downloaded new ios7 and new itunes 11.1 and now iphone 4 won't finish syncing - just stays on last step and never finishes or cancels on its own. Tried reinstalling itunes with no success.

I have the same problem.. latest version of iTunes (11.1.5) and latest version of ios (7.1) but it gets stuck at "waiting for changes to be applied" and I can't cancel the sync manually. It doesn't cancel on it's own either (at least not the 8 hours over night that it was syncing) and if I unmount the phone then the phone keeps the sync going (the little spinning arrows in the upper left corner) and doesn't recognize that it's been disconnected..
I've tried restoring the phone (with little success, managed to get one more song on there) and syncing over wi-fi but nothing seems to work. Any thoughts, anyone?

Recently my pc crashed and I had to have a new profile built.  Now when syncing my iphone 4s to the computer the sync gets stuck on step 8 and "syncing artwork"  It never finishes syncing...just sits there for hours.  Subsequently most of my music and apps are missing from my iphone because it never finishes syncing.  How do I fix this?

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • Sync never finishes

OK, so I am syncing my new iPhone 6, and doing a hard, connected sync. But the sync never finishes. When I left it last night it was on "Syncing Artwork" and I left the sync running overnight, and it was still not done this morning.
Based on the fact that I can't get the system to stop asking me for old passwords, the problem where it keeps saying on my home screen that it says it is "Restoring from iCould Backup" for the whole week and a half that I have owned this new phone, and now this, I am seriously thinking of switching platforms.
    HELP!

Never mind, figured it out. My "ipod photo cache" from my former library was included in my pictures file when I transferred my files to my new computer. I think this was confusing itunes. I deleted the old photo cache and synced again - this appears to have fixed the problem.

  • Should it take sooo long to install Flash on a new Mac book pro?  And should the CC panel say "syncing files" and look like it will never finish?

I Have CC and it's taking so long to install on my new Mac book pro.  The CC panel also says its syncing files down at the bottom, it's so slow it looks like it will never finish.  Should it be taking this long?

I had an issue where I had to wipe my mac as well. What you have to do to format the hard drive and reinstall is this:
Restart the computer while holding down the option key. Choose the recovery disc. Find the main hard disc and hit format. Then you can reinstall Lion via the internet, it takes a while though, my computer took 5 hours or so.
For your first question, if you got the family version of office, I believe you have 3 computers you can authorize it on. If you are not sure, look it up in the apple store.
For the second: Time machine would probably be your best option, but I would reccomend restoring from a backup before you were having problems, and restore that one (put new files you need on another external or a digital-online storeage site such as dropbox.) To restore a backup, restart your computer and hold command+R and select "Restore from Time Machine Backup" (for more information go here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427 )
I don't believe tere is anything else you need to do, but I am new to macs, so I may not be the best source, but this is what I have found/have had to do.

  • My sync process hangs on "Preparing Sync Preview" and never finishes

After a recent desktop software update the sync does not function properly and hangs.  I've left it for up to 2 hours and it never finishes.  Anyone else have this problem and let me know how to fix it.

Okay, after reading some other online material, suspicion fell on the Blackberry Desktop Software 7.0 version. I uninstalled that version (keeping the data), then downloaded and installed version 6.1, and all is working correctly again.
The attempts to fix the 7.0 sync problems did some strange things to my device, and I fortunately had a backup from a day or two before to restore. When I tried to sync again with 7.0 after restoring, my home screen photo disappeared and a couple of other odd things happened. A hard battery pull and reboot cleared those.
I'm now able to sync with version 6.1 without any problems. However, I'm now unable to back up to the existing file because the software says I can't write to it! One thing at a time, I guess . . .

  • I can log into sync but it never finishes

I'm using firefox 30, everything is updated. When i try to sync my desktop with my account i can log into the account and the sync starts but it never finishes. None of my passwords or accounts are added. When the sync start there are two blue arrows that circle around one another next to my user name in the menu section, however this then stops. If i then try and disconnect i get this,"Firefox will stop syncing with your account, but won’t delete any of your browsing data on this computer." I'm unsure if this is due to my account not having anything within it or just not finishing the sync, but I'm unsure how or if it's possible to check what is held in my account.

I tried all three of those suggestions and when I reinstalled I removed all of the current addons and personal data. Completely fresh. When I tries to sync again it added a couple of addons that were on the exsisting one but nothing from my account. Any other suggestions?

  • Itunes never finishes syncing w/ my Ipod

For the last few months, Itunes will never finish syncing with my Ipod (I think 5th generation). I have the latest updates from Apple, and have about 27 gb's of the 30gb filled up with mainly music. I add ratings to the songs, but other than that, and a few song additions, there isn't much else to sync. In fact, when I first start syncing with Itunes, the center display window (i.e. where track info is shown) will tell me what is being synced over. Eventually it just says, something like "syncing with Ipod -- Do not disconnect". I've tried waiting for two days, and it'll remain like that. I end up pushing the eject button to free it. The ipod takes 5-10 before it is finally released from Itunes. Any ideas on how to fix?

I get this problem as well from time to time. It always seems to work itself out by it self too. What I do when it's acting up is when it says it's done my iPod screen will go to the main menu for about a second then back the the syncing do not unplug so I just time it right when it's at the main menu and unplug it then. So far it hasn't damaged anything.

  • Syncing calendar or contacts never ends...

Love my iPhone, love my new Macbook Air.
First time I sync'ed the two my 600 contacts made it from the computer to the phone.
Now I'm syncing again a few days later and music syncs, video syncs, but if I choose to sync contacts or calendar it never ends. I've left it for as much as 30 minutes and nada.
No progress is shown as it is with music, etc -- just a barber-pole like progress bar that never changes.
I've tried checking the sync box that says "for this sync only replace the content on the phone" and it doesn't make a difference.
I've tried powering the phone down and back up and nothing.
I rather not completely reset the phone because I suspect that this will wipe the call logs, voicemails, SMS conversations, etc.
If it helps, I think the problem started because during this 2nd sync it detected a bunch of "conflicts" in the address book and asked which version I wanted to keep. I went through and chose all the ones to keep but before that sync was done the sync got hung up because an SMS message came in which it was in progress and when I tried to slide the slider to get to the SMS I killed the sync (I didn't realize the slider killed syncs at that point).
    Any ideas?

One thing to try is to open isync from your applications folder.
Once isync is open, click on isync at the top of the screen and choose preferences.
In the preferences, reset sync history.
After sync history is reset, quit isync and try syncing the iphone again.
If the issue persists, try creating a new user account.
Log into the new account and open ical and address book.
Put a test contact into address boo and a test event into ical.
Then open itunes, go through the initial setup and try syncing just contacts and calendars.
    Make sure to merge data.
If the sync goes on in the new user account, then some how the data has become corrupted in your account and is causing the sync to hang.
    Hope this helps.
