Syncing Contacts on iPad

I just got my iPad and had it sync ... however I have two of every contact listed in my address book.
How do I correct this?

Under the Info tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes, deselect Sync Contacts and deselect Sync Calendars followed by selecting Apply.
On your iPad, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Select your MobileMe account.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. A warning message will be provided indicating this will erase all contacts from your iPad downloaded from and being kept synchronized with your MobileMe online address book. You will also be provided an option to store these contacts locally on your iPad. Decline this prompt. This will not delete the contacts on your iPad synced direct with the Address Book on your Mac via the iTunes sync process.
Follow this by turning Contacts back on for over the air syncing on your iPad. You will be provided a merge prompt, which you want to select.
This will get rid of the duplicates.
Repeat the same for Calendars.

    Hi JudyIke,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
You mention that you're not able to sync your contacts from iPad to your HP Pavilion PC.
To sync contacts and other data using iCloud, first make sure iCloud for Windows is set up on your PC. You can refer to the "Set up iCloud for Windows" section of this article to double-check your steps:

  • Cannot sync contacts from iPad to pc?

I'm desperately trying to copy my contacts from my iPad to Outlook (2013), since I have lost them all on my pc. But when I connect and go to Info (at least this is what it's called on my Danish version), I can't tick off "Sync Contacts" (nor calendars for that matter). Neither is there a choice on what on my iPad is called Resume.
I hope it makes sense. I really need advice soon - and preferably in a not-too-technical language which this elderly, Danish lady will understand ;-)

You can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:

  • How do i sync contacts on iPad with mac

I have 164 contacts on my ipad but only 102 on my Macbook Pro and 82 on iphone 4s. I have icloud turned on on all devices but its still not sending them to everything. Can anyone tell me what I am doing incorrectly

Thanks for that, but my Outlook contacts are synced to and all in my mac contacts book, does this not meen they would go to icloud,
No, they are in the On My Mac account in the Mac Contacts app, not iCloud.
or are they in a different format despite being in mac contacts?  If so can the outlook contacts be exported in some other way to icloud?
Outlook is not compatible with iCloud, check Microsofts site if you need more verification.
If you want them in iCloud use Mac Contacts and move them from On My Mac to iCloud. This will remove them from Outlook.

  • How to sync contacts on iPad with iPhone 5c

Cannot sync my contacts on my ipad with my iPhone.  I don't have a Mac laptop.  Can it be done directly from the iPad to the iPhone?

You should be syncing regularly with a cloud service or your computer.
    Have you been doing this?

  • Syncing contacts of iPad and iphone

How do I get the contacts from an iphone on to my iPad and keep them in sync. Both are currently backed up to the icloud

Backing up to icloud is entirely different than syncing with it. Make sure that you're signed into the same icloud account on both devices and turn on 'contacts' under the icloud settings on both devices. If you've created the contacts on your device in the icloud account, they should be on both devices. They need to both be on a wifi network in order for them to contact the icloud server and give the contacts to the other device

  • Syncing contacts from ipad to mac mini

I want to move or sync my contact book to my mac to it will sync to my Ipods and ipads can I do this without using the cloud?

iCloud would be the easiest and most efficient way, not sure how else to do it. Maybe a 3rd party app can be found in the App Store to do this.

  • Sync Contacts on iPad and MacBook

When I make changes in Contacts on the MacBook, they get picked up by Contacts on the iPad.  However, when I make changes on the iPad, they don't get picked up by the MacBook.  I'm guessing that it has something to do with the Push/Fetch settings, but I don't know that for certain.  Right now, the setting is Push.

Well I answered my own question.  I just deactivated all the other accounts on my iPhone except iCloud, and all the duplicates disappeared.  Before I did this, I merged duplciate cards on the MacBook Pro (from the Contacts Card menu selection).  iCloud needs to be selected as the default account on all your devices, and it seems that other accounts need to be deactivated.  Be careful - deactivating an account also erases entries associated with only that account.

  • TS3988 My wife bought an iPad Air and synced contact from our PC (Outlook), now all our contacts in Outlook have gone and we have to go to iCloud to get them, and even then they are a bit jumbled. How do I get my data back onto my PC?

My wife bought an iPad Air and synced contact from our PC (Outlook), now all our contacts in Outlook have gone and we have to go to iCloud to get them, and even then they are a bit jumbled. How do I get my data back onto my PC?

If you can see the iCloud contacts in Outlook, you can copy them back to your PC by selecting all the contacts (click one, then press Control-A), then drag and drop the selected contacts to Contacts under My Contacts on the left sidebar of Outlook.
If you want to copy your calendar back to Outlook, select your iCloud calendar on the left sidebar of Outlook, switch to the list view (select View from the ribbon, then click Change View>List), select your events (click on a single event, then press Control-A), then control drag and drop them to Calendar under My Calendars on the left sidebar.
Then you can sign out of iCloud on the iCloud control panel and your local copies will still be there.  If you want to add your iCloud email account back to iCloud, you can do this with these settings: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864.

  • TS2818 I have purchased songs from iTunes and when I sync with my Ipad only some are imported....then it says contact Itunes as to why your songs are not being synced.

I have purchased many songs on Itunes and then I sync to my Ipad. Then it tells me so many songs cannot be synced.  Why? I also attach my connection and it is now saying this iphone is not connected when it is an Ipad connected to my MacBook Air.  I also think that when you have an account with Apple they should honour your email to all your music and not just your laptop as I now have to use my old laptop which is about to die so what happens then.

What is the exact wording of the error message?
Were all songs purchased by the same iTunes account?
What did iTunes say when you contacted them?

  • I can't update or sync address contacts to iPad or Mobile Me

For many months I've put up with an incomplete sync of my contacts from my MacPro (which was selected as my "master" sync from here to mobile me in system preferences) because the bulk of my address book was available in mobile me. I also hate using webmail of any stripe so I had no reason to fret over the many missing addresses or any of the updates. Now I've added an iPad and I need all of the address to transfer over.
I did change my AppleID password some time ago. I have signed into mobile me with the new password many times. I wouldn't think that matters but I saw in a post someone mentioned doing that and I remember I had done it too.
Yesterday, with the iPad plugged into my MacPro, I was able to force sync with mobile me, but the only result of that was there were a few duplicates of old contacts as the warning said might happen when using iTunes and mobile me to sync. NONE of my updated contacts or new addresses came through. It's a matter of several dozen new contacts and changes I haven't been able to keep track of that are failing to be represented in either the iPad or mobile me.
I've followed all the advice I can detect from this forum to rectify the problem. I am using Snow Leopard 10.7.6. My MacPro is too old to update to Lion so iCloud is not an option and I'm not confident it would do any better. I went into system preference and turned off mobile me syncing across the board. I tried syncing with the iPad plugged into my MacPro several times through iTunes. I decided I should restart the computer just to make double sure the changes I made in system preferences to NOT sync with mobile me were applied.
I just barely started using iCal for more than a birthday calendar since getting my iPad. I've got several appts. listed on it now. iCal will not sync between the two devices either. The new birthdays I've added through my address book which appear on my MacPro did not go to my iPad and the appts. did not show up on my MacPro. I just did the force sync on calendars from iTunes again, toggling between all calendars and selected caledars and I di get something to happen. A bunch of the old contact entries from the address book duplicated on iCal on the iPad. Once again, none of the appts. on the iPad show up on the MacPro.
I've gone to the Advanced request on iTunes several times and asked it just to Apply Contacts to the iPad on the next sync only. It simply does not work to get my additional contacts. I currently have 657 contacts in my master address book on my MacPro. Mobile me lists even more but that's simply evidence that it's not kept up with my efforts to clean up my address book over the years and that it doesn't really follow the instruction in system preference that it should take from the MacPro, not merge. Merging is a disaster. Many new entries are missing from mobile me and the ipad. It doesn't look like the iPad gives a contact count. I just got a smattering of duplicates to transfer when yet again I told it to Apply while connected to iTunes with mobile me sync still turned off, but no new or corrected ones came through. You can see I'm going in circles.
Please give me suggestions of what to do next. I have backed up an archive of Address Book to my computer.

I thought I finally found the answer in post https://discussions.apple.com/message/10843915#10843915
I deviated from the instructions by manually deleting all my contacts while in Mobile Me before trying the forced update because it hadn't worked in the past to force transfer the addresses. I thought starting with a clean slate might be a step ahead. Now that clean slate seems permanent.
The gutsy move was to make Mobile Me download the empty address book into my MacPro. My address book went empty until I restored it through the archive I'd saved. It proved the computer and Mobile Me are communicating since it wiped out my address book on my desktop. I restored everything by importing the archive back into the address book. Thankfully that part is fine.
What is not working is for me to get ANY addresses to move back to Mobile Me despite repeated attempts at changing the reset action through the advanced selection of Mobile Me in System Preferences. I've unselected syncing and restarted the computer. I've signed out of MM and signed back in. I've closed the browser and opened it fresh again. I've closed and opened Address Book on the computer. None of those actions make a whit of difference. Mobile Me contacts remains empty when I tell it to replace MM with the contents of my AB on my MacPro.
I see under the gear there is an ability to import vCards. Is there any way to do a batch import? I have almost 700 addresses separated into more than a dozen groups. It will be a mighty tedious process to import them one by one.
No, iCloud is not an option. My computer is one version too old to upgrade to Lion.

  • Can two Apple IDs be linked so that they can share data? My iMac and iPad have the same Apple ID and sync contacts, bookmarks, etc. My wife's iPad has a different Apple ID. Can it be linked somehow to mine to share contacts etc?

No. You cannot link your contacts to hers. However, you can use Home Sharing to share the information:

How do I sync my iPhone contacts on iPad Air.
iCloud is already enabled and configured on both devices but can not get my contacts in the iPad.  Additionally, the groups button isn't in contacts app and when I save a new contact on the iPad simply disappears and again is no contact in the contact list.

Using iCloud is the easiest way: http://www.apple.com/uk/icloud/setup/
