Syncing Contacts Question

I synced my phone to a software update and thought I backed up my phone but now I have no contacts. Is there a way to get them back? I have no idea where to look to find them if possible. Any sugestions? Thanks!!

If you use iCloud you can set up iCloud on the phone and sync them that way.
If not, when the phone is in iTunes, to restore from a backup, right click on your iPhone under Devices in iTunes and click Restore from Backup.  You can then choose which iPhone backup you want to restore from.

When I sync my contacts between Outlook Contacts on my computer and my iPad contacts, through iTunes, which has priority or should both lists of contacts be identical after syncing?

They can get out of sync if you've chosen to do only a one-time sync of your contacts, which means that after that they are independent.

  • Sync contacts - questions

Looking at the wired option via Blackberry Link it seems there is no way to merge contacts in the intelligent way Blackberry Desktop used to, is this the case? I haven't done it as I don't want duplicates.
When you sync wirelessly with Gmail (or Hotmail etc)  is it a one way sync from the Blackberry to Gmail or does it work both ways? If so which one leads if there are duplicates?
    Thanks!

Only data listed under 'iCloud' can sync - in fact it isn't actually syncing as such, because the data lives on the server and is read from there by your Mac and devices.
Data listed under 'On My Mac' is, as it says, on your Mac and is not connected to iCloud: therefore this data cannot be seen on the iCloud website or on other devices signed into iCloud.
The intention is that all your data should be kept on iCloud in order to facilitate syncin, and that you should not keep data listed under 'On My Mac'.

  • Syncing contacts question - help!

I went to sync my contacts through iTunes (into Address Book) and I received a message saying that, if I continued, I would add 1400 contacts (from the phone) to address book! Isn't a sync supposed to just add new contacts (created on the phone) to the address book and look for duplicates? What I really want to do is replace the contacts on the phone with the copy on my MBP (Snow Leopard) in Address Book.
    A little background:
My daughter and my contacts got merged when she accidentally logged into my iCloud account. We have that issue fixed - she has her own cloud now. The problem is, I still have all of her contacts mixed in with mine. What I'd like to do is be able to edit (delete) all the contacts on my computer, where it's easier and faster, and then push that edited contact list to my iPhone - so I have just my own contacts on both the computer and the iPhone.
How do I accomplish this without, first, increasing the size of my contact list by 1400 and, then, editing from there?  I already have enough to delete and I don't want to simply create a duplicate of a contact list that already needs a lot of editing!
I sure would appreciate any guidance I can get!

You could use the free app My Contacts Backup to backup the contacts on your phone.  The app attaches the bakcu to an email which you then send to yourself.  If something goes wrong you can open this email and use the attachment to re-import your current contacts list back to your phone.  After doing this, tap the preferences gearwheel at the bottom right of the app, scroll to the bottom and tap Remove All Contacts.  This will remove all of the contacts from your phone.  Now sync with iTunes and it should sync your Address Book contacts to your phone (just as it is trying to do now), except that now there are now contacts on your phone to merge with.  (As I said, if anything goes wrong in this process, just open the email and re-import and you're back to where you started.)

  • Question: How do I sync contacts from my iPad to my MacBook Pro running Mavericks?

How do I sync contacts from my iPad to my MacBook Pro running Mavericks?
    rbarge

    Contacts sync via iCloud.
Set up iCloud on your iPad and your MBP, with the same iCloud account on both, with the same Apple ID.
On the Mac you set this up with System Preferences > iCloud, and have Contacts checked in the box on the right.
It looks very much the same on the iPad, Settings > iCloud.
If you have set this up and it's still not working, then sign out of and then back into your iCloud accounts.

  • I have an iPhone that was set up as a backup of another phone. I want to sync it with my current library; am afraid of losing synced contacts. Will I? Can I prevent this?

The older phone in question was a work phone that was set up by the owner and then distributed to employees for use. I have a new phone that will be for personal use that I have backed up from the work phone;mainly for the contacts. I want to sync the new phone with my personal library, and I go to do so and get the infamous "erase and sync" message. Will this erase they synced contacts if I do this? (Contacts are what are most important in this case; there is no music stored, for the backup had no music.) If it does, can I prevent this from happening without having to manually replace the contacts?

You did not restore the new iPhone.
The first time a new iPhone is connected to iTunes on a computer that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device or that was used to backup another iPhone or iOS devide, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device, or set up the new iPhone as a new iPhone.
Since the old iPhone was synced with iTunes on a different computer, all iTunes content on the new iPhone (which is none at the present time) will be erased first.
The warning message should indicate all iTunes content will be erased from the iPhone, which is iTunes content only.
If you are syncing contacts with a supported address book app on this computer and the supported address book app on this computer includes any contacts, you will be provided a merge prompt for the contacts, which you want to select. Otherwise the contacts on the iPhone will be replaced with the contacts in the address book app on the computer with the first sync.

  • Sync contacts on PC and movies / music from mac?

    Hello all,
Looking to jump on the iphone bandwagon when the 3g version drops. But I have a question important to my usage.
Right now I use a PC for all of my business-related stuff, so all my contacts are stored in outlook. But for music / movies, etc I use a mac.
Is it possible to sync my contacts with outlook on my pc, then sync my music / movies from my mac? Sort of a dual-sync setup.
    Thanks!

    Yes, this is possible.
An iPhone is not formated for one operating system or the other.
iTunes content, and photos transferred to an iPhone can be synced with or transferred from a single computer only.
The sync process for contact information, calendar events, and bookmarks is a true sync process - bidirectional, and can be synced with multiple computers - with the supported applications between two Macs, two PCs running Windows, or between a Mac and a Windows PC.
The iPhone includes sync preferences with each computer, but best to disable automatic syncing to change or confirm your sync settings with iTunes on each computer before syncing. You can disable transferring iTunes content, and the same for photos, and enable syncing contact information, and calendar events only via your iPhone sync preferences with your Windows PC. Enable transferring iTunes content and photos from your Mac, and you can sync your contact information and calendar events with your Mac also.

  • How to sync Contacts and Calendars between 2 computers and ipod?

I'm having difficulty syncing contacts on 2 computers and an iPod. Although I'm able to sync contacts from an iBook (G4/OS10.4) to an iPod Classic, when I attempt to sync the iPod to an empty address book on an Mac Pro (Intel/OS10.4) the synch goes the wrong way (and deletes the contacts on the iPod. What gives? Is there any way to sync the contacts on all 3 devices (iPod and 2 computers)? If so, how?
    Same questions for Calendar...
    Thanks.

As Julian points out, the present means of synchronization under Mac OS X 10.4 and later involves an entirely different technology than that originally used. You can read a technology brief here.
It has nothing at all to do with your perceived 'greed' on the part of Apple. Your iPod is essentially a read-only device, and cannot push changes back to the framework.
As he points out, there are third-party alternatives to explore, including multiuser packages of BusySync and the use of individual Google calendar accounts as intermediaries for single-user remote cross-platform synchronization.

  • IPad can't sync contacts with iCloud

I need some help....  I have an iMac running Mtn Lion (10.8.2) and an iPad3 (6.0.1) and I'm trying to sync the two in iCloud.  Contacts are giving me a headache.  I've got the contacts into iCloud so I went to iTunes, clicked on the iPad and went to "info".  Thought everything was OK but no contacts (actually there are a couple) on the IPad.  Went back to iTunes and clicked on the iPad. went to "info" and now there is no box to check next to "Sync Contacts" and the message in the box says  "Your contacts are being synced with you iPad over the air from iCloud" and "Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on your iPad."  My contacts are syncing (iPad) with iCloud and I can't figure out to get the check box back so I can choose to sync my contacts.  I know there are other threads out there with similar questions but I couldn't find anything that helped me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Correction....my iPad contacts are NOT syncing with iCloud

  • Syncing Contacts between Outlook, MobileMe, GMail, etc..... ***?!?!?!

    Hi Everyone,
Is anyone else totally bamboozled by the 'logic' applied by iTunes when it comes to syncing contacts on the iPhone with multiple databases...?
I use Outlook, GMail, Hotmail and MobileMe - and what an absolute dog's breakfast the iPhone has made of my contacts list! I now have some contacts appearing 5 or more times (9 is the record). I'm afraid the syncing is VERY unintelligent.
My Nokia N96 (worst phone EVER) was much better at sorting these things out - why cannot Apple achieve this so like everything else, "it just works"...?
Come on Apple! Intelligent control over contacts, please?!!!
BTW - I found an app that deduplicates contacts in the iPhone, or rather, it has a go. Takes several passes for it to sort itself out. I DREAD to think what it will do on the next sync with my PC..!!

    Hi Glenn,
I think iCloud has been the root of the problem. For some reason, iCloud only sync some numbers of my contacts, not all. Where if i select On My Mac, it has all my contacts; this one because i have sync it with my Outlook the first time i got my Mac.
Yesterday I lost all of my contacts On My Mac, and this makes me lost the same contacts on my iPhone. the one that is left are the ones that iCloud has.
Now i cannot seem to sync Outlook with Adress Book.
Just exported Outlook contacts with .olm format, but when i want to import it to Adress Book, it's not compatible (can't select the file).
    Question:
    1. How do I temporarily 'turn off' iCloud sync so i can sync my Outlook contact to Adress Book first
    2. I cannot find the prefs of "On My Mac contacts is enabled for outside syncing other applications" or "On My Mac contacts will not sync to iClouds contacts." for that matter.
sorry if it's a silly question, im quite a newbie when it comes to working with OS X.
    thanks in advance.

  • ITunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because the sync server...

has anyone else gotten this message? and if so, what's the fix. i've talked to a "level 2" tech at apple and he had no clue.
"iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because the sync server failed to sync the iphone"
this happens if i have contacts checked to sync. it synced fine on 6/30 but have been getting this problem today 7/1.

I'm having this same problem and I've tried all the other fixes in this forum, except yours. Could you please be more specific? My question is below:
1.) erased the iPhone via iPhone settings. --> where is "iPhone settings"?
2.) deleted my pda from iSync
3.) plugged in the iPhone and restored it via iTunes
4.) resynced and everything is back to normal.

  • Will a samsung s5 sync contacts on a mac pro 150 with outlook 2011 installed?

    Im looking at a new Samsung S5 smart phone (had it with the iphone) & I have a mac pro 150 with Office 2011 installed;
Question - will the S5 sync contacts in Outlook program installed?

Microsoft have not made Outlook for Mac compatible with iCloud since they haven't bothered to include support for the industry standard CalDAV and CardDAV protocols iCloud uses.
    See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2648915
Apple cannot do anything to rectify this, as they don't make Microsoft Office. It is in Microsoft's hands.
It wasn't necessary to buy Office for Mac to sync with iCloud. All Macs come with all the applications required for syncing with iCloud for free.
Use Apple's Mail, Address Book and iCal.

The activation server is gone for AA7, but not AA8 as understand it. You will need to do the updates for AA8 to be effective on Win7. It is questionable that it will run on WIn8 (I have no clue for a MAC).
Your conversation is an example of how many of us got here in the first place. It is fantastic that you were able to hold on and get the problem resolved. Not exactly sure of the solution, but there does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel for folks. Normally, with activation problems like yours, we recommend calling Adobe Support for them to reset the activations. I was just wanting to get a heads up about AA8 on the newer systems. Folks have been successrul on Win7 with the updates, but the results for Win8 are still not known in general. There have been some suggestions, but nothing more. As long as it works for you that is great. For our info, what OS are you running?
