  • How to sync contacts between iCloud and Outlook without iCloud moving the contacts

    Hi,
When synching Contacts between Outlook and iCloud, iCloud moves away the Outlook contacts from the default directory, to a newly created data file.
This issue already existed with MobileMe Calendar, and now seems to have been "adopted" for the Contacts as well in iCloud.
This causes me many issues, including synching the same data with other devices and other PC's.
    Any work around?

Apples iCloud is not working with Outlook as it is making new folders isolated from the standard folder *.pst.
I have tested intensely and moved back to Google Sync (calendar) and iTunes (contacts, notes) as they sync properly with the standard folders in Outlook. Reminders sync still missing. Shame on Apple for delivering such a nonsens to us.

  • I use a Win7 PC with iCloud and Outlook 2010 for syncing my calendar and contacts. I can enter data in my Outlook Calendar and it will appear in iCloud, but data entered in iCloud does not sync back to Outlook.  ICloud syncs to my iphone fine both ways.

I use Win 7 PC with iCloud and Outlook 2010 for syncing my Contacts and Calendar.  They have stopped syncing...mostly.
Now, appointments I enter on my local Outlook (iCloud) Calendar goes up to iCloud fine.  But, data I enter on iCloud directly does not come down to my local Outlook iCloud Calendar.  If I reboot the computer, the iCloud data shows up.
Also, Contacts I try to enter on my Outlook (iCloud) Contacts goes up to iCloud fine, but does not show up in my local iCloud Contacts.
All syncing works with my iPhone.
I have signed out of iCloud on PC.  I have stopped syncing and re-started.  No change.
I have an .aplzod folder for iCloud.  I have a separate Earthlink.net.pst email account in Outlook and a me.com.pst Outlook email account (which I don't actually use) listed under Data Files.
Any help would be appreciated.  Curious that Outlook will upload to iCloud but not receive downloads unless I reboot.  However, rebooting does not download the missing Contacts.

    Hi Jim!
You've started off with some good troubleshooting steps, so let's see if we can take this a little further and figure out what the issue is with your iCloud contacts and calendars. I have two articles here that will help you troubleshoot this issue a little further, but the troubleshooting steps for both articles are exactly the same, so I will lay those out for you here:
Note: When using iCloud Control Panel 2.0 and later, iCloud Calendar event descriptions in Outlook 2010 do not support text formatting (bold, italics, or underline), HTML, images, or attachments. The contextual (right-click) menu has also been disabled.
If you are having trouble with a PC (with Outlook 2007 or 2010) and iCloud Calendar, try each of these steps, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved:
Verify that you are using a Windows configuration that is supported by iCloud. For more information, see iCloud system requirements.
When enabling Calendars in the iCloud Control Panel, part of the setup process is to copy your Calendars data from the default Outlook ".pst" file to iCloud, and then remove the Calendars from the ".pst" file by placing them in the Deleted Items folder in Outlook. The Calendars data is then stored in the iCloud data set within Outlook so that changes can be pushed to and from Outlook by iCloud. Be sure you are looking for your data within the iCloud dataset within Outlook after enabling Calendars in the iCloud Control Panel. The deleted files can be seen by viewing Deleted Items within your Outlook Folder List. This is not iCloud removing your data; iCloud simply copies your data into the iCloud data set and then removes the local Calendars data by placing it in the Deleted Items folder.
Make sure your computer is online. Attempt to view www.apple.com and iCloud.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud calendars and events will not update in Outlook. Click here for more information about troubleshooting your Internet connection.
Open a secure website to test if you are online as is necessary for iCloud Calendar. This also tests if the ports 80 and 443 are accessible. Outlook requires port 443 access to iCloud in order to push and pull updates to and from the iCloud Calendar servers.
Verify that your iCloud member name is entered into the iCloud Control Panel pane. See iCloud Setup for more information about setting up iCloud on Windows.
Completely close and reopen the iCloud Control Panel.
If you recently made changes in Outlook and they are not moving to your other devices or vice-versa, click the Refresh button in Outlook.
Turn iCloud Calendar off and back on:
    Close Outlook.
    Open the Windows Control Panel:
In Windows 8, move the pointer to the upper-right corner of the screen to show the Charms bar, click the Search charm, and then click the iCloud Control Panel on the left.
In Windows 7 and Vista, choose Start menu > All Programs > iCloud > iCloud.
Remove the checkmark in the checkbox next to Mail, Contacts, Calendars & Tasks, and click Apply. Wait a few seconds, then replace the checkmark, and click Apply.
Open Outlook and test to see if the issue has been resolved.
Ensure the iCloud Outlook Add-in is active within Outlook.
    Outlook 2010:
    Open Outlook 2010.
    Click the File menu.
Click Options in the left panel of the Outlook window.
Click Add-Ins in the left panel of the Outlook Options window.
Look at the list of add-ins beneath "Active Application Add-Ins" and verify that the "iCloud Outlook Add-in" is listed.
For Outlook 2007, follow these steps to verify the iCloud Outlook Add-in is active
    Open Outlook 2007.
From the Tools menu, choose Trust Center.
Select Add-ins from the left column.
Look at the list of add-ins beneath "Active Application Add-Ins" and verify that the "iCloud Outlook Add-in" is listed.
For additional information about managing Add-ins with Microsoft Outlook, see this Microsoft support document.
Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it does reinitialize your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.

  • IPad can't sync contacts with iCloud

I need some help....  I have an iMac running Mtn Lion (10.8.2) and an iPad3 (6.0.1) and I'm trying to sync the two in iCloud.  Contacts are giving me a headache.  I've got the contacts into iCloud so I went to iTunes, clicked on the iPad and went to "info".  Thought everything was OK but no contacts (actually there are a couple) on the IPad.  Went back to iTunes and clicked on the iPad. went to "info" and now there is no box to check next to "Sync Contacts" and the message in the box says  "Your contacts are being synced with you iPad over the air from iCloud" and "Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on your iPad."  My contacts are syncing (iPad) with iCloud and I can't figure out to get the check box back so I can choose to sync my contacts.  I know there are other threads out there with similar questions but I couldn't find anything that helped me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Correction....my iPad contacts are NOT syncing with iCloud

  • Synced contacts with PC and shouldnt have - how to remove

I recetnly synced on my PC and had the sync contacts with outlook checked, and should not have. Now my iPhone shows a group of contacts titled "On my PC" above the group now labeled "On MobileMe". MobileMe is my contacts and calendar that i sync with. Is there a way to remove this group "On My PC" from my iphone?
    Thanks
    Mike

OK, first you're on the Windows forum so we can't really help you with a Mac.
Second save the backup, wipe, and start over is the correction and it's a pain.
Even if you have to do it one entry at a time you can get it all back.

  • Merged my Contacts with iCloud and lost all new contacts

    Hi all,
Mac OSX Lion.  I made a bunch of new groups on my (desktop computer) contacts book, as I went through the contacts book, I reviewed and updated contact info for nearly a thousand contacts.  I spent literally hours parsing out my client contacts into three client contact groups that I made.
I realized that I had never turned on iCloud syncing in the iCloud preferences.  I turned on the Contacts Syncing option in the iCloud pref and was asked if I want to Merge my local contacts with iCloud.  I said Yes.  After the Merge was finished, the three new groups that I made had vanished, and all of the contacts that I had meticulously updated had gone back to their previous state.
Needless to say, this is really upsetting.  Anyone else seen this problem?  Any magic button I can press to bring back all of my hard work?
For what it is worth, after this fiasco, I decided to see if iCloud was working properly, created a few test contacts on my iPad, desktop computer, and notebook... all three worked perfectly by instantly sharing the info to each other.
The main problem appears to have been the "Merge" when I turned iCloud syncing on after having created a lot of new contact info on my desktop computer.

Your daughter must have signed into your iCloud account, perhaps when she updated her phone.  You can confirm this by going to Settings>iClloud on her phone and seeing if she is using the same iCloud ID.
To fix this you would need to migrate her phone to a separate iCloud account.  To do this, start by saving any photo stream photos that she wishes to keep on your phone to her camera roll by opening her my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tapping the share icon (box with upware pointing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.
Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and provide the password when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone.  This only deletes the account from her phone, not from iCloud; it won't effect your device(s).  When you delete the account you will be asked if you want to keep or delete the iCloud data from her phone.  If she needs to migrate a copy of the data to her new account, choose Keep; otherwise, choose Delete.  Then sign back in with a separate Apple ID to create her new account and if migrating data to the new account, choose Merge when prompted.
Once she is on a separate account, if she migrated a copy of the data to her new account you can go to icloud.com from your computer, sign into her new iCloud account and delete your data from her account.

  • Selectively syncing contacts to iCloud using Outlook?

A customer of mine is having issues syncing her Outlook 2003 contacts with her iPhone and iPad using iCloud. Personally, i only use iCloud for my iPod Touch, and have had no personal experience with syncing contacts or using Outlook to do so.
I assisted her remotely in upgrading her iPhone 3GS to iOS 5, and during the initial iCloud setup, i'm not sure what she did, but it ended up pulling all of the contacts from her husband's Outlook profile into her iPhone, and from there to iCloud, and her iPad. She freaked out, and when i assured her that it could be fixed just by turning the Contacts syncing in iCloud off, it also removes her current phone numbers and such saved prior to the update.
Her Outlook 2003 is set up with two profiles, one for her husband and one for her. Each profile has it's own contacts databases, but iTunes is syncing it from her husband's, despite no defaults being set. She, of course, wants the contacts from her Outlook account synced instead of her husband's, but Outlook 2003 cannot export contacts to the vCard format, which would be the obviously easiest way to import them into iCloud, using the web portal.
What would be the best course of action? Sadly, upgrading her PC wouldn't be worth the money at this point, it's an aged machine, and running Windows XP, so the iCloud control panel isn't compatible, and has to be accessed through the web portal.

As far as I can tell, there is not one post anywhere on this forum about how to get contacts from outlook into icloud via importing vcards or any other method.  Nobody who knows anything at icloud is on this forum.

  • Blackberry -- iPhone with iCloud and Outlook

I recently purchased an iPhone, previous phone was a blackberry, and I use the Mac version of Outlook for mail, calendar, contacts, etc. When I plugged in my new iPhone to sync with iCloud contacts were lost, calendar events disappeared, etc. I want to continue using Outlook on my Mac but need ALL my contacts, calendar events, etc to show up on my iPhone.  Can someone help?

  • IPhone - Sync issue with Calendar and Outlook 2003

I have been syncing with no problem up to yesterday - now I can't sync my Calendar with my PC. It doesn't make any difference whether I make an entry in iPhone or Outlook. I have reset sync history in iTunes - no change.
The only thing that I can think of that I did out of the ordinary was to copy and paste my contacts into another contacts group in Outlook.
It would appear to be a problem with Outlook as the iPhone syncs with iCal and Address book on my G4 laptop.
    Appreciate your help.
    Alani

Outlook is definately a problem. Ive been at it for a couple of days going through this thread and others. Still not syncing.
What Apple has to realize is that windows people have different microsoft offices, i use 2000 because the schedule is shared between everyone, this is an addon in newer copys of office.
When i make a call or recieve a call i would like to see an option to add the caller to the schedule .. When your on the phone with the caller you can just hit a button and it brings you right to the calendar and enters the caller in the schedule where ever you place them.
Anyway i will keep at the sync thing for a while and see what happens. Nothing so far. l8r

  • Syncing contacts between E71 and Outlook

    Hi there
I have a brand new E71, and a thing of joy it is. One small thing about PC Suite syncing though: there are numbers in the phone that just don't make it into my Outlook contacts. I have PC Suite version 7.0.8.2 and Outlook 2003, on a Windows XP laptop (HP model). I've copied all my SIM contacts to the phone memory, and done a resync... but there are still a small handful of contacts on the phone that contain a phone number - but the phone number simply does not appear in the corresponding contact in Outlook. I've done a couple of variations on syncing chanding the direction from phone to PC, and then from PC to phone, but that also seemed to make no difference. Searched all over the forum and the Nokia site for help, but to no avail.
It's irritating rather than mission critical but suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
And a second query: why do I get so many duplicates as a result of syncing - never used to happen with my 9300. Any way to stop it happening. I now have six or seven versions of some contacts both on the phone and in the Outlook contacts, and the only way I can see to fix it is manually, which will be a long and tedious process.
    Thank you for any help!

E71 firmware version 4.** Latest .PC Suite Version 7.1.40.1 PC Connectivity Solution: Version 9.45.0.0 Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver: Version 7.1.23.0 Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP 32-bit Edition, Service Pack 2 Language: English Language for non-Unicode programs: English Detected Bluetooth stacks: - Microsoft (Version: 5.1.2600, Build: 2180).
    I connect via Bluetooth.
The connection between the phone and PC is good. The contacts in PC suite are updated correctly.
Problem: New contacts in the E71 is not added to the contacts folder in Outlook 2007, It used to work. I think it stopped working after the PC suite update some time ago because that was the only change I remember. I rechecked settings in PC Sync and no change. I can see when the phone connects to PC Sync on the phone and in PC Sync. The changes just stay 0. I do make sure that keypad is locked and phone not in use when synchronizing. Its a great phone, please help.

  • Syncing Addresses with iCloud and an older iPod Touch

I've got my iMac set up to sync Address Book with iCloud.  I've also got a 2nd generation iPod Touch that cannot run iO5 so it cannot communicate with iCloud.
When I sync the iPod with the iMac if I don't turn off the "Sync Address Book Contacts" option in iTunes I get a bunch of duplicates on the iMac (and I've found that the "Look for Duplicates" command in Address Book doesn't find these duplicates).  It looks like I can choose the "All iCloud" group in Address Book and that will not show the duplicates, but is there any other way to eliminate duplicates and still sync with an older iPod Touch?

Your iPod Touch cannot access iCloud so you can only use iTunes; and as you have found this results in your Mac bringing in the contacts from both iCloud and the iPod and you get duplicates. I'm afraid there isn't any way of stopping this as such, unless you can live without syncing to iCloud.

  • IOS 6.1.2 updated- tried to Sync contacts with iCloud- All contacts gone

Help. I just updated the IOS to latest: 6.1.2 then decided to backup contacts on iCloud. When 'Merged' all contacts from phone are gone. Then I went on iCloud and the contact list there was also EMPTY. Strange enough the calendar and Notes backup were all there, but NOT contacts. I tried turning off the iCloud, etc- but can not get my contact list back--- HELP. Is this a clitch with the new IOS??

Thanks for your response, I'm a little confused though...
My iCloud account is set up in settings.  If the iCloud backup doesn't backup my contacts why is there an option to turn contacts on or off in the iCloud account?  And how are they "only synced if you had your icloud account in the mail/contact settings" if icloud doesnt backup contacts?  I don't think I understand that part of your response.

  • Reminders not syncing properly with iCloud and iOS 8

I have an iMac running OS X 10.9.4 and an iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.0.2.  I use Reminders on both my iMac and my iPhone and iCloud is turned on for both devices.
If I create a reminder on my iMac, I can see it immediately when I log in to iCloud.com and go to Reminders.  It does not show up on my iPhone.  If I edit this reminder on either the iMac or iCloud.com, the changes sync immediately between the iMac and iCloud.com but NOT my iPhone.
If I create a reminder on iCloud.com, it immediately shows up on my iMac.  It does not show up on my iPhone.  If I edit this reminder on either the iMac or iCloud.com, the changes sync immediately between the iMac and iCloud.com but NOT my iPhone.
If I create a reminder on my iPhone, it shows up on my iMac and iCloud.com.  If I edit this reminder on either the iMac or iCloud.com, the changes sync immediately between the iMac and iCloud.com but NOT my iPhone.
In order for any edits/deletes to sync to/from the iPhone, I either need to create the event on the iPhone, at which point it syncs any other changes, or I need to create a new dummy event and then delete it, at which point it syncs any other changes.
Basically, it seems like the iPhone needs to initiate a "hey iCloud, here are changes from my end.  Oh, there are changes from other devices?  OK, I'll show those changes" protocol, otherwise it just doesn't receive any updates from iCloud.
I don't think it's an issue with my iCloud account, since Reminders on my iMac and Reminders on iCloud.com sync just fine.
On my iPhone, I have tried:
-Force quitting and re-opening the app
-Changing the Reminders sync options (Settings -> Reminders -> Sync)
-Turning Reminders off and back on under Settings -> iCloud -> Reminders
-Turning the iPhone off and back on
None of those methods have fixed this issue.
Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue or is this unique to my iPhone?

    Hi mrbofus,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I see that you're experiencing issues with iCloud syncing your reminders on your iPhone.  To troubleshoot this issue I'd like you to please follow the steps below.
    General troubleshooting
Check the System Status page to make sure there aren't any issues affecting iCloud Bookmarks or Reading List.
Make sure you've fully enabled iCloud Calendar & Reminders for the client you are using. For more setup and troubleshooting information, see the additional steps for iOS, OS X, Windows, and iCloud.com in this article.
Check iCloud Help (help.apple.com/icloud) for possible information about the issue you are experiencing.
Check your settings and preferences, because something may not be set up correctly. For example, having incorrect date and time settings can cause issues that are easily resolved by entering the appropriate settings.
    Troubleshooting Reminders on iOS devices
If you're having trouble with Reminders on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) and iCloud Calendar, try each of these steps, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved:
Make sure that you're using iOS 5 or later. If you meet these requirements but your issue continues, try installing the latest version of iOS supported by your device.
Make sure that your iCloud account is configured correctly in Settings. For instructions on setting up iOS for iCloud, see iCloud Setup. Reminders is a separate data type on iOS. It must be enabled via the Reminders setting in Settings > iCloud.
Make sure your iOS device is online. Attempt to view www.apple.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud Reminders will not update in Calendar. Learn about troubleshooting your Internet connection.
Open a secure website to test if ports 80 and 443 are accessible. Reminders requires port 443 access to iCloud to push and fetch updates to and from the iCloud Calendar and Reminders servers.
If recent changes don't appear in Reminders, try forcing a refresh. In iOS 7:
    Open the Calendar app.
Tap the Calendars tab to load the Calendars list.
Pull down on the list to refresh both calendar events and reminders.
If recent changes simply don't appear in Reminders, try forcing a refresh. In iOS 6 and 5:
    Open the Calendar app.
Tap Calendars in the top-left corner to load the Calendars list.
Tap the Refresh button in the lower-left of the Calendars list.
Quit and restart the Reminders app on your iOS device.
In iOS 7, press the Home button.
Press the Home button twice to see preview screens of the apps you have open.
Find the Reminders preview screen and swipe it up and out of preview to quit the application.
Quit and restart the Reminders app on your iOS device.
In iOS 6 and iOS 5, press the Home button.
Press the Home button twice to open the multitasking menu.
Press and hold the Reminders icon until it jiggles.
Tap the red circle in the upper-left corner to quit the app.
Press the Home button to get back to your Home screen. Wait a minute before reopening the Calendar app.
Change the Sync settings for your calendars:
In iOS 7 and iOS 6, tap Settings > Reminders.
In iOS 5, tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then scroll down to the bottom to the Reminders section.
Tap Sync. If Sync is set to All Reminders, set it to a specific duration, such as Reminders 1 Month Back. If it's already set to a specific duration, set it to All Reminders.
Wait several minutes and refresh again, as described previously. Then open the Reminders app again.
Turn iCloud Reminders off and back on:
    Tap Settings > iCloud.
Turn off Reminders. Choose to delete data only if your reminders exist at icloud.com/#reminders and on one or more of your devices. Otherwise, choose Keep Data.
Wait a few minutes before turning Reminders back on.
Restart your iOS device: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears, then drag the slider. After the device turns off, turn it back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears. This may sound simple, but it reinitializes your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.

  • Syncing contacts with Facebook and contact visualization in dialer

    Hi,
I have spent a lot of time trying to sync and consolidate my contacts from Google and Facebook. I did have a couple of issues however and I am looking for advise.
    1) Contact photo from Facebook are very low res and blurry.
         - Xperia with Facebook account has the both contact & calrendar sync checked, and sync has completed, but no photos are synched.
         - Facebook account has retreived the photo from Facebook, but it is extremely low-res and very blurry.
    2) Is there a way - after linking a google contact to a Facebook one to quickly copy or merge (selected) Facebook contact details (like photo, birthday, phone number, email or address) into the Google contact.
    3) Once I select a phone number as primary is there a way to see in the dialer (using T9 search) only the default phone number. Currenlty I may see a mobile phone from Facebook, another mobile phone from Google, and maybe a couple of other phones, and everytime I search for this contact directly in the dialer I need to remember and choose which number to dial.
So far the only resolution seems to be to switch back to exDialer, which would be a shame since this is my only complaint from the Xperia dialer.
    4) Is there a way to backup the link between the google and facebook contacts? Is there a way to backup which phone number, email or address is default? Both of these are not preserved in google contacts, so everytime I reset or change phones I need to start all over.
I am looking for your advice and best practices and thank you in advance!!

OK, so after spending some time for research here are my findings:
    1) Synching contact pics from Facebook to Android contacts: Facebook and Xperia with Facebook accounts do not work. As a workaround I have used Contacts+ application from the Google Play store, it works as expected.
    2) Merging Facebook contact info (pic, phone number, email, birthday) to google contacts - have not found a way to automate or, best, semi-automate this just yet. Easiest manual option - view a contact, long press the phone/email/birthday, then edit the contact and paste. Will not work for the contact pic though.
    3) Show a single record for the contact in the dialer and remember the default phone - Xperia dialer cannot do this, Contacts+ and exDialer can be used as a replacement though.
    4) Backup the Google to Facebook link  &  the default selection for phone number, email, address in case of a hard reset or transfer between phones - no complete solution found yet, need to review more contact backup apps. At least one can edit the names of the google contacts so that they are spelled as in Facebook to make a future matches quick & more fluent.
