Syncing contacts with Iphone

I inadvertently deleted contacts from my icloud backup on the cloud, this then synced them to my phone deleting the contacts which I had on my phone.
I have restored contacts onto my phone, but everytime i now sync what is on the cloud with the deleted contacts is re synced to my phone.
I want to restore what is on my phone to the cloud, is this possible?
Any help appreciated

I found this reference to iSync at http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-322209.html :
"I am by no stretch of the imagination a Mac expert, but I think I have found the solution to the sync problem.
"I was having problems syncing only my contacts (all 2500 of them). It would either hang up syncing or tell me that the sync server failed to sync the iPhone.
"I contacted Apple Tech Support this am and the tech I was talking to acted like this was the first time that he had heard of this problem. We tried trashing preference (plist) files and cache files, but no luck. I had completed a complete restore and restart of my computer and still no luck. We basically ran out of options and he stated he would open a trouble case on it.
"Well, my curiosity got the best of me and I started ******* around with iSync. In the preferences of iSync is a checkbox which either allows or disallows applications to sync with each other. I unchecked it, closed iSync and opened iTunes.
"I put my iPhone in the Dock and when it came up on iTunes, under the "Info" tab, all of the checkboxes were checked, but there was NO information to be synced.
"I then unmounted my iPhone and closed iTunes. I opened iSync again and rechecked the checkbox to allow syncing between applications. I also pressed the "Reset Sync History".
"I then closed iSync, reopened iTunes and re-docked my iPhone. I then checked under "Info" and the information was back. I then tried to sync my contacts and it worked perfectly."
I tried this last week and it seemed to work only for the problem to return this week.

  • ITUNES on iMac not Syncing Contacts with iPhone

Problems syncing contacts between iPhone 4S on iOS 7 to my iMAC Address Book (OSX 10.7.5) using iTunes.
How are conflicts resolved?  There don't seem to be any preferences or settings, but I'm assuming iTunes should pop up with a message when there's a conflict asking which contact to use?
New contacts on my iPhone are not syncing over to my computer
Note:  I do not use iCloud -- it ruined my contacts and took much time to fix, so I want to just sync my devices with iTunes.  I would like to get rid of all references to iCloud if there were a way!
This process was much slicker and easier with a Palm Pilot many moons ago!!
I am asked HERE to select a category under iTunes:  Importing & Burning; Installing/Removing/Upgrading; Podcasting and Radio; or iTunes Store.  MY ISSUE FITS NONE OF THESE!!!  So now I have another question -- where should I be posting my question???

    Hello ascotsgranny,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with contact syncing. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:

  • Syncing contacts with iPhone misses one number

Syncing iTunes 11.4 (18) under MacOS 10.8.6 on my MBPro, with my iPhone 5c using iOS 8.1.2 leaves one (at least) phone number unsynced.
A new contact phoned me, so I put his number into Contacts on my iPhone.  Later, he emailed me his physical address, so I put it into Address Book.
Then, I plugged in my iPhone and synced.  His physical address got moved to contacts, but his phone number did not get moved to Address Book.
I have synced several times again.  I get no anomalies during the sync process, but his phone number remains only on my iPhone, and not in Address Book.
    I tried Quitting Address Book,
Then launching iSync -> Preferences -> Reset Sync History -> ("Are you sure...?) -> Reset Sync History -> (button got dimmed).
Then iSync -> Sync Devices -> (no messages.) -> Quit.
Then Launching Address Book. -- no help.
    Then Quitting Address Book,
    Quitting iTunes,
Launching iTunes -> iPhone -> sync -- finish.
Then launch Address Book -- No help.
Still no phone number for him in Address book although there is a phone number for him in Contacts.
iTunes -> Gil's iPhone -> Info -> Sync Contacts is checked, All contacts is selected.
iPhone -> Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> iCloud -> Contacts = Off
    Any ideas?
One oddity is that this iPhone 5c is my third iPhone to be attached to this particular computer's iTunes.  All three of them have been named "Gil's iPhone".  Maybe the identical name for different iPhones is confusing iTunes?  How could I research/change that?
    --Gil

OK.  I found it.  Cockpit error.
On my iPhone, Phone -> Recents -> "i"circle -> shows what looks like a Contacts record with address and phone number.
However, Contacts -> theName -> shows a real Contacts record with address, but no phone number.
I didn't realize I had to transfer the phone number to the Contacts data base.  (It still seems odd. I created the contact record from the phone number somehow.  Maybe something in that process didn't work properly.)
BTW,... How do you transfer a phone number to the Contacts data base?  (Drag across, copy, switch to Contacts, Edit, Paste works.  Is that it?)
I then added email address to Address Book and Synced again -- worked as expected.  Phone number was copied to Address Book and email address was copied to Contacts.  All is well.
    A little confused, is all.

  • Sync contacts with iPhone

My address book contacts are different than my iphone. even when i click on "sync now" i dont get all contacts synced both ways. !
how do i make them identical ?
    thanks

I would check to make sure both are stored in iCloud.  On your iPhone, go to Settings --> iCloud and make sure the "Contacts" selection is on.  On your Mac, do two things:
    1.  Go to System Preferences --> iCloud and make sure "Contacts" is checked.
    2.  Open the Contacts application, from its menu go to Preferences --> General and make sure the default account is iCloud.

  • Can't sync my contacts with iPhone 3G since started using iCloud

    Hey guys
I have an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3G. before iCloud, I used to sync both of them with my mac and everything would work like a charm. but since iCloud's running and I'm backing up my iPhone to my iCloud account, everything's ok between my iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1 and Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2.
The problem is when I want to sync contacts between iPhone 3G iOS 4.2.1 and Mac. My iPhone 4 shows that the contacts are in a group names 'All iCloud' and it seems like I can sync only contacts from the group named 'All from my Mac' to my iPhone 3G. Eventhough I have all my contacts in my Address Book already. And it seems I would be able to sync my contacts if I can get them on my Mac, but how?
    Any Ideas?

    iKaveh wrote:
Think all we need to do is to move contacts from 'All iCloud' to 'All from Mac' somehow.
    But how?!
This is not something I've been able to test, but I believe this process will do it:
Select all your contacts in the 'iCloud' list in Address Book.
From the File menu choose 'Export>vCard' and save the vCard on your Desktop or somewhere convenient.
Set 'On My Mac' to be the default account in Preferences.
From the File menu choose 'Import' and select your vCard.
Import into Address book, making sure the contacts go into 'On My Mac'.
You will now have duplicate contacts, and can delete the ones under 'iCloud'.\
As you will have gathered, you have three choices:
Keep your contacts under 'On My Mac' and sync them via USB.
Keep your contacts under 'iCloud' and sync them to iCloud.
Keep a full set under each category and sync to both. Of course any additions or changes will have to be made twice.

  • I can't sync my iPad contacts with iPhone contacts

I Have all my contacts on my iPhone, but can't get them transferred and synced on my iPad. I have iCloud contacts turned on and bot iPad and iPhone use the same username and password. I don't ever want my iPad to over write a contact on my iPhone but always want my iPhone to overwrite those on the ipad
i can't get it to work?
I have turned off and on the iCloud's contacts syncing on both iPad and iPhone in all possible configurations...
    help?

    Hello Texasgrillchef,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I see you have already turned off iCloud contacts on your devices to help troubleshoot this syncing issue, however there are some further steps I'd like you to follow through.
    iOS
After each step, check to see if the issue still exists.
Make sure that iCloud Contacts is on
Tap Settings > iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and make sure that Contacts is on.
    Update your iOS device
Make sure that you're using iOS 5 or later. To see your version, Go to Settings > General > About > Version.
If your issue continues, install the latest version of iOS that's supported by your device.
    Check your Internet connection
Try to go to www.apple.com in Safari. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud contacts won't update in the Contacts app. You can get help with your Internet connection.
Open a secure website from your iOS device to see if you can access ports 80 and 443. Contacts requires access to port 443 to push updates to and from the iCloud Contacts servers.
    Refresh your contacts
If recent changes don't appear in Contacts on your iOS device, try refreshing:
In iOS 7, open Contacts, tap Groups in the upper-left corner, then swipe down to refresh the list of groups.
In iOS 6 and iOS 5, open Contacts, tap Groups in the upper-left corner, then tap the Refresh button in the upper-left corner.
    Check your settings
Make sure that your device is set to display iCloud contacts:
Open Contacts and tap Groups in the upper-left corner.
Make sure All iCloud is selected.
See if a contact is stored with iCloud or another service, such as Google or Yahoo:
Open Contacts and tap Groups in the upper-left corner.
Deselect the All [account] option for any third-party, such as Gmail or Yahoo.
Make sure All iCloud is selected.
View your contacts. If the contact isn't visible, then it exists in a third-party account.
You can import the contact from a third-party service into iCloud. iCloud won't sync contacts that are associated with a different service.
You need to make sure that iCloud is your default account for Contacts:
If you want new contacts to appear automatically on your devices.
If you're syncing contacts with multiple accounts on your device (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo) and recent changes to Contacts on your iOS device don't appear on your other devices.
See if iCloud is your default account:
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
In the Contacts section, tap Default Account.
    Make sure iCloud is selected.
    Restart Contacts
Close and restart the Contacts app on your iOS device:
    iOS 7:
Double-click the Home button to see your open apps.
Find the Contacts preview screen and swipe it up to close the app.
Press the Home button to return to your Home screen.
Wait a minute, then reopen the Contacts app.
    iOS 6 or iOS 5:
Double-click the Home button to open the multitasking menu.
Touch and hold the Contacts icon until it jiggles.
Tap the X to remove it from the list.
Press the Home button to return to the Home screen.
Wait a minute, then reopen the Contacts app.
Turn iCloud Contacts off and back on
    Tap Settings > iCloud.
    Turn Contacts off.
You can choose Delete from My [device] if your data exists at icloud.com/contacts and on one or more of your devices. Otherwise, choose Keep on My [device].
Wait a few minutes, then turn Contacts back on.
    Restart your device
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button, then drag the slider when asked to power off. Turn your device back on.

  • Syncing Outlook Calendars and Contacts with iPhone - There is NO SOLUTION

I have searched the Apple support forums, Mac Forums, MS forums, spoken to Microsoft Support and iCloud support. Everybody says that there is no way to directly sync Outlook Calendars and Contacts with iPhone and other remote devices and nobody has a work around. I see 100s of forum threads started with this issue, most have no answer and the few that do are not offering solutions. I post this as a final effort to seek a solution! Who will be my savior? Or should I just admit defeat and allow myself to be cast aside in the battle between two giant corporate babies who don't like to play in the same sandbox?
Is my knight in shining armor out there?!

The information is correct, MS do not support the Dav standard in Outlook for Mac (but they do in Outlook for Windows), until they add support for it Calendars and Contacts will not work with Outlook for Mac.

  • Syncing contacts from iPhone back to iMac (Entourage)

Briefly, after both my Time Machine and hard drive failed, I lost all my data. My Entourage contacts re-main on my iPhone, and I want to sync them back to Entourage. I understand the process of "merging,"but I have run into a few obstacles: I am using the latest version of iTunes (7.6.2), by the way. First, under Preferences, I have no options available under "Syncing." Then, when I connect my iPhone, and select "Info," I have no options here, either. I do have a number of contacts in Entourage in my iMac, but, apparently, iTunes no longer recognizes the existence of this program, so I can go no-
where. (My Entourage Contacts have been duplicated in my Address Book, but that doesn't show up, either. Something must be terribly corrupted.) I'm both frustrated and perplexed, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. pah

Something to check when syncing contacts from iphone back to computer, make sure to open address book and enter at least one contact.
Then when you connect the iphone, you should get a message asking if you want to merge the data.
Click merge and this should copy all contacts from the iphone back into address book.
the same goes with ical also.
Make sure there is at least one event in ical.
Now to move the data in address book and ical to entourage is set in the entourage preferences in the sync services section.
    Hope this helps.

  • I hate Apple maps, will Marvericks give me option to sync contacts with google maps?

Will Mavericks let me sync contacts with google maps or require sync to Apple Maps as does i0s7. I hate Apple maps.

I have exactly the same issue.  I updraged my iphone4 to iOS 5.0.1 and iTunes to version 10.5.2.11.  I'm also running Windows7, but 32bit.
And I can also confirm this used to work both ways.
Good thing is that the iTunes backup and restore kept the new iPhone contacts on my device during the upgrade.  But they are still not syncing to google.
So the bad news is that its broken and has been for some time now.
    anyone?
