Syncing deletes my playlists. Aaaaaargh!

If I set up a playlist on my iphone 4 it gets deleted whenever I connect to my computer and sync. Its almost like my phone playlists get replaced with only the standard playlists that are in my itunes. I can't get mine in there though as they get deleted first. Catch 22
Can someone please help an amateur like me out as its driving me mad.
Thanks,
Jonathan

What is you sync again?
It sounds like you synced to another computer or the iPod thought your computer was a new one. If you do then the media on the iPod gets deleted and replaced with what is in the iTunes library of the new computer.

  • IPod sync deletes music/playlists

I am gettng very frustrated with this issue - Everytime I plug my iPod into the computer to charge it initiates an itunes sync - that part is OK, the problem is that it erases all my music from the iPod.  I am using the latest iPod ios (6.x) and itunes (10.x),  When I restore the factory settings and reinstall everything, the music gets copied to my iPod but this is time consuming and I need to do it every time!  Just crazy.  I have wifi and icloud sync turned off.  I have no idea how to get around this problem and am about ready to throw the thing out the window.  It's an ipod touch 60gb with about 12 gb of music.
Can anyone please help with this issue??

Try not letting it sync automatically, i.e., set to "Manually manage ..." in the iPod Summary page. Worked for me for a similar (but less destructive) problem.

  • I JUST SYNCED MY NEW IPOD TOUCH TO MY ITUNES LIBRARY BUT iT WONT LET ME EDIT THE MUSIC ON THE IPOD.  i WANT TO MANUALLY ADD AND DELETE CERTAIN PLAYLIST OR SONGS/

I have a new ipod touch replacing an old damadged one.  I have it synced to my computer but I cant edit the songs in my playlist on my ipod or delete any playlist.  I also can not create new playlist for the ipod

Click on the iPod under DEVICES... is the "Manually Manage Music and Videos" box checked? You may have to scroll down to see it. You want to make sure this box is checked.

  • With iOS 6 on my 4th gen iTouch I am finding I no have to delete the playlist from my iTouch, not the when I sync. Now the paylist is being deleted from my library as well. What am I doing wrong?

With the new iOS 6 I have to use on my old iTouch (4th gen) instead of deleting a playlist thru the sync, I was instructed to delete it on the device. Now when I sync I am finding the playlist has been deleted from the library as well. I just want it off teh device, not erased. What am I doing wrong?

  • When sync iPod, get error message and deletes all playlists!

Just the other day a problem developed. When I sync my iPod (160G,) after a short time of syncing I get a pop-up which says, "Cannot sync "Dennis iPod" because an unknown error occurred. Error number 48"
I clicked OK, and it seemed to sync anyway without further problems. Now this may be a separate issue, but yesterday I was trying to help a friend with loading iTunes on his computer and then getting music in it and then syncing his new Nano. He knows less about computers than I do, so I went through all the steps in detail, clicking on various settings, etc.
I don't recall changing anything and I have gone over my iTunes setup again and it looks OK to me, but the next time I synced my iPod, iTunes ERASED ALL THE PLAYLISTS!
I have it setup to sync only "checked" playlists.
    I am using iTunes 7.5.0.20
Another thing I have noticed for some time now is that syncing my iPod seems to take much longer than it used to. For instance, I get a podcast of a radio program which I like to put on my iPod. The program has three segments which are approx. 30 min. long. It used to take what seemed to be about 6-7 sec. per segment to sync. This was back in the days of the older iTunes which showed the Music playlist with little icons beside the new material to be synced. As it synced, as I recall, the icon disappeared. Now it takes several times as long to sync. Any suggestions. By the way, I don't have "use error correction" checked.
    Thanks for any help.

  • I deleted my playlist off my iPhone (on my phone not on iTunes) and it deleted the playlists from my iTunes and I NEED them back...how?

It seems TOO MANY people are having this same problem.  Honestly, Apple is just dirt now...more problems than now.  I need help asap.
I went onto iTunes and clicked on my phone's name in the upper right corner.  I have my music set on 'selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres' which this usually means, I just click below to which playlists I want on my phone.  However, none of my playlists were updating (none of the new songs I added to my playlists already on my phone were transfering) so I went on my phone and simply deleted the playlists there, then was planning on re-syncing them on my phone from iTunes on my computer.  BUT when I went onto my iTunes, somehow ALL my playlists were deleted EVEN THOUGH I ONLY DELETED THEM OFF MY PHONE NOT MY COMPUTER!  THESE PLAYLISTS ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT AND I NEED THEM BACK NOW!  I tried using the backup, which was done before the playlists were deleted, but of course Apple, it did not work.  Great job, there.  I just want these playlists back, both on my computer and on my phone.  I have plenty of space free to hold these playlists/songs.
Apples exceptional failure of everything iPhone and iTunes related is too maturfully pathetic I don't know if I have the patience or time to deal with this company anymore, even though I have been along for the ride since the first iPhone came out.  Congratulations, Steve Jobs would be so happy with how far Apple's sunk.
    Problems:
    Video's not synching
    Playlists not updating
Playlists deleting from iTunes when simply deleted from iPhone
New songs not transfering to iPhone
My battery jumping from 30% to 5% in less than a minute
My phone completely shutting down at 30% and not turning back on, saying it needs to be charged
When above happens, and I plug it in, after it turns back on, it pumps straight to 30% battery again
Lock screen not always locking, even though it is set to 1 minute

I'm not ranting at you, I'm ranting at Apple.
Yes, I backed it up.  It did not work when I tried this to get my playlists back.

  • Itunes always changes or delets my playlists I make on my phone.

I even have 'prevent from syncing' clicked on but every time I plug my iphone in it deletes all the songs I have added to my playlist.
I tried to click "manaually manage music and videos" but when I click apply it warns me that it is going to erase my entire phone and sync it with my current library.  Which is a massive no-no since my current library doesn't have a fraction of what my orignal one had. (I couldn't transfer my old library becuase my old computer just died one day with no way to fix it)
My itunes just deleted two playlists and I lost 32 songs from my favaorite playlist. I sincerly hate having try to remeber all the songs I lost and having to scroll through my 2000 songs to try and remember them all. I took screenshots this time of the playlist so I can add them back easily , but I don't want to have to do that every time I want to plug my phone in. How can I tell itunes to leave my playslists alone ?

I'm only surprised it isn't deleting more... iTunes likes to sync iPhones to a single library and any attempt to updated them from a different one usually causes problems. Each track in an iTunes library is given a unique ID. Playlists are ordered lists of those IDs. When you build a new library, even with the same media, the tracks will have different IDs so importing playlists isn't completely straightforward. Some of the tools listed in Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device can import playlists, but they'll probably want to reimport the media at the same time because your new library doesn't have the matching IDs. In this case that may well be what you want to do, however if you had all the media in a new library, and didn't need to use any of the other steps in that user tip, then my script ImportDevicePlaylists should be able to recover all the regular playlists and any folders they are organized in.

  • Can I delete a Playlist from an iPhone but keep it on the Mac?

I have iTunes match on my Mac and activated on my iPhone.  I keep as little music as possible on the iPhone due to space limitations.  My thinking was that I would download what I want to listen to on the the way home from work, then delete it to download something else -- basically, only keeping what I'm currently listenting to at the time.  I know that if I download an album, I can delete the songs manually from the iphone, or the entire album.  The result will be no songs on the phone, all of them in the cloud and all of them still on my Mac.
Playlists, however, seem to act differently.  I downloaded a playlist that I no longer want on my phone, but of course want on my Mac.  I now have questions:
    1.  Can I delete the playlist form my phone with one swipe/delete?
    2.  If I do, will the playlist still appear on my Mac at home? (from what i've read, no)
    3.  If I delete select songs from the playlist, or all of them manually, I believe the playlist will still exist on my mac, but be empty.  True?
In a perfect world, you should be able to swipe a playlist and choose either "delete playlist only from this iOS device" or "delete playlist from all devices".  Thanks.

I did this recently on an iPod Classic: attach to iTunes, on the device summary tab check manually sync music, then deleted the music and playlists I wanted off the iDevice.  They remain on the computer's iTunes but by keeping the device identified as manual sync they do not go back.

  • How can i sync my old playlist to my new iPod shuffle?

How can I sync my old playlist to my new iPod shuffle?  Everytime I try to sync it I get the little pop up box that asks if I want to transfer and delete what new songs I have already downloaded.....i know it has something to do with sharing music libraries but not sure how to do this....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    You don't.
If you do not have your contacts, then you cannot sync your contacts.
You should ALWAYS maintain a backup copy of your computer.

  • Help! I deleted some playlists from my iPhone 4S, and it deleted the playlists in my iTunes library as well!  What can I do to get my playlists back?

Please help... I've been trying to get rid of a ton of unwanted music on my iPhone 4S.  The music I had marked in iTunes to sync to my phone was not the only music showing up.  In my attempts to get rid of the unwanted music, I decided to delete all the music on my phone. Even after unchecking the "Sync Music" tab, there were still 3 songs left as well as my previous playlists.  So, I deleted the playlists... which appears to have simultaneously deleted the playlists from my iTunes library!  Also, I can not get rid of the remaining songs no matter what I try!!  Please help!!!

If you keep the 4s and send back the 4 you ARE stealing their device. If the decide they want the device back, send them the device that they purchased.
Switching SIMs is irrelevant to the discussion.

  • Itunes deleted my playlist?

So apparently when you delete a playlist on your iPhone it deletes that same playlist in iTunes. I thought it was the other way around? Long story short I was recording a video and needed more memory to record so I deleted the playlists on my iphone thinking it would clear up some memory. Is there any way to get my playlists back onto iTunes or are they gone forever? I tried putting the XML file on my desktop then restarting itunes and importing the XML file into the library but that didn't work. I'm sure some of you know how frustrated I am because it deleted 4 playlists containing over 1200 songs. It will take a while to recreate, any help will be appreciated.
If this issue can not be resolved I will be sure not to buy another apple product again, that is ridiculous how itunes went off of what was on my iphone instead of what was on itunes to determine syncing.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied & renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • Iphone software update deleted my playlists on the phone and itunes

When i installed the latest update to the iphone 3gs all of my playlists were wiped out. is there way to recover them? when i synched my phone with itunes it deleted the playlists there as well. i do have an ipod with the playlists still in tact.

I had a very similar issue. Bought the 3G and tried to sync it with my Outlook (2002) and it deleted about 3 dozen calendar events. It seemed to be specifically recurring events, and I think they all had reminders. Not sure though - recreated them all, so let's see what happens.
