Syncing Entourage to ICal to Google Calender to the Iphone & back to Mac

I forget to mention Mobile Me.
I am trying to link all of the above and digitally integrate my Calenders. I recently purchased both the I-Mac and the I-Phone 4 and I just "broke-up" with PC after 25 years.
1.) Should I dump Entourage and just go with I-Cal?
2.) Does I-Cal have advantages over Google Calender and what are the drawbacks?
3.) I use I-Tunes extensively and it appears that it does not support Google Calenders. Is this accurate?

Hey littlemoney08,
You would first have to disable syncing calendars from Exchange on the iPhone. Just tap Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> tap the Exchange account> Calendars OFF.
From page 13 of the iPhone User Guide:
+"Important: If you sync contacts or calendars using your Exchange or MobileMe+
+account, syncing for contacts or calendars in iTunes is turned off. Any contact or+
+calendar information on iPhone is replaced by the contacts and calendars from your+
+Exchange or MobileMe account."+

This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1670 will walk you through configuring Entourage, so that calendars can be synced to the iPhone.

  • Sync ical to google calender

    I been using ical as my calender and I want to sync it with my gmail google calender. I have all my events in ical and none in google calender.
    I do not want to import events in google calender into ical, i want to do the opposite.

    I just bought my first smart phone (Android 2.1 Garminfone) 2 days ago. I tried to hold out for an iPhone but T-Mobile didn't pick it up and its not worth switching carriers to get one. I am in the same boat that you are in. I have a rather extensive calendar on my Mac that I need to sync TO google so I can then sync it to my phone. So far I have not had any luck. To be honest this phone is not really an improvement over the old flip phone I just got rid of. Sure, I got a GPS that I can make phone calls on but if it were not a free upgrade I would be a little angry.
    How do you sync iCal --> Google?

  • Can't sync events created on the iPhone back to Outlook or iCal

    after upgraded my two iPhones to 1.1.4 I cannot sync events created in the iPhone back into Outlook on my Vista machine or iCal on my Macbook (for the second iPhone). I searched the forum but found no answer other than a RESTORE... I already needed a RESTORE in one of the iPhones as music data got corrupted after upgrade (it created a huge OTHER file.
    1.1.4 fixed bugs and added quite a few!
    any advice out there other than RESTORE? As always the helpful agent from apple support suggests restoring the iPhone and denies anybody else having issues.

    The first question I wold have to trouble shoot your problems is: Do you have an active open account on Outlook? Do you have more then one account active on outlook? When you connect your iPhone to iTunes and go to the second Tab...What boxes do you have selected? Are you set up to Auto or Manual Sync?
    Currently I have one active account in Outlook that is displaying my MSN account that was IMAP'd through izymail.com. All of my sync modes are set to manual so that I can control what and when my sync occurs. All of my boxes are checked in the second tab to sync to the outlook account that I have established. If this does not help then please answer the questions above so that I or someone else can assist you further.
    Good Luck

  • ICal To-Do's and the iPhone Calendar

    Why is it that at this stage of development, Apple has yet to offer a solution to manage and sync iCal to-do's with the iPhone Calendar? Am I missing something? It seems obvious that Apple is giving third party developers the opportunity to write the many wonderful To-Do apps out there, and there are many. The problem is, this doesn't fix the problem of sync-ability. I know that there are ways to sync between these third party apps and things such as their own desktop software (Things), which will then sync to to iCal. There are others that will sync to Google Calendar and/or Google Docs, but this is hardly a simple solution. There are always complications when you start syncing too many things to too many places, as the software doesn't always line up pretty.
    I'm basically just looking for a simple solution to use iCal, my iPhone Calendar and a To-Do function that will sync seamlessly with both. The most natural thing would be for Apple to include To-Do creation in the iPhone Calendar app with full sync capability with iCal. I find it shocking that Apple hasn't written for this.
    There are nice applications out there such as Pocket Informant that integrates a beautiful (and much more powerful calendaring function) with a To-Do function within the same application, but they have no ability to sync with iCal, nor do they have a desktop version of their software.
    If anyone has any ideas on this, or advice on the best way to integrate iCal, To-Do's and the iPhone Calendar, please let me know. In the meantime, I will post feedback to the Apple developers with a seemingly obvious enhancement request.

    With all due respect, I completely disagree with you. Integrating To-Do's and calendar events is a very natural way of organizing things. There is an app called Pocket Informant which does a very nice job in integrating the two. Even Apple thinks they are (and could be related), or else why even include to-do's in iCal to begin with? You see, it is as if they went half way in their effort. They provide something because they think it could be a good idea, but then they put no time or effort into actually making it useful for the end user. The fact that to-do's and notes show up in mail is also pointless. Why do I need mail to see my to-do's on my computer when I could just look in iCal, which is where they were created in the first place.
    Omni focus is a very powerful app. I just think that it is way overkill. What good is an app that helps you get things done, when using it actually impedes getting those things done? It literally takes so much time and effort to work with Omni (if you really want to use it correctly), that you don't have any time left over for the things you need to get done.
    And by the way, don't talk about hourly rates when you use words like "Gentlements", "prolly" (for, I am assuming probably", "proccess" (there is one c) "offence" (it is offense, unless you are from the UK, which I am assuming you are not), to name a few. Anyway, spelling aside, you shouldn't really be judging what people make based on whether someone thinks an app is expensive. The fact is, Omni focus happens to be very expensive. I am not saying that it is not worth it. In fact, I really don't know. I know that it is powerful, but for someone looking for a simple way to manage the important tasks in life, Omni is not for everyone, especially when you are spending upwards of $80 when something like Put Things Off (which I like a lot better) costs around $3.

    Hi, we have two iphones with two accounts.  The apple tv automatically syncs with one account to play music from the iphone to apple tv.  How can I use my iphone to do the same?

    Our experience is a little different, we have different iTunes accounts for different family members, each family member has their own iTunes library on their own mac, each mac uses my Apple ID for homesharing and we are able to play purchased content from each library on the Apple TV.

  • Is there a way to view the ical to do list on the iphone?

    Can you view the ical to do list on the iphone? Thanks

    Where can we send feedback to Apple regarding this? I reckon this should top iPhone 2.1's wish list.
    I can't see any difficulties at all... Even MobileMe works seamless with iCal's To-Do list.
    Palm 3 with 10+ year history realised an PIM device needs a To-Do list, what's wrong with Apple? I really can't see the logic.

    Unless you are in the US then films can't currently be re-downloaded from the store (and not all films can be in the US). If you are in the US then you could see if it's in the Purchased link on the left-hand side of the iTunes store home page for re-downloading : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

  • Clear Google Searches on the iPhone?

    Hey I'm using the 1st gen iPhone with the newly updated v2.0 firmware. I am trying to figure out how to clear the search history on my google searches in the iPhone safari app. I know how to clear the browser history, but not the actual searches I have done. Does anyone know if this can be done?
    Thanks

    Here's how to do it:
    1. Tap settings (from home page)
    2. Tap safari, then clear the history, cookies, and cache using the buttons near the bottom of the page.
    3. Press the home button.
    4. Press and hold both the home and sleep/wake buttons for 10-12 seconds, until the screen flickers off. This will do a "soft reset" on your iphone, just like turning it on and off, but it also empties recently deleted items.
    Note: You will NOT loose any of your prefs or data when doing a soft reset. Also, keep holding down even after you see the "Slide to Power off" screen, and then your iphone will reset a few seconds later.

    Hi Mike,

If I have a playlist say with 200 songs it will say on itunes sync window syncing 200 songs however I only get 150 songs on my iphone. I have restored iphone twice, I have tried playlists and smart play lists. It seems not to sync the same songs all the time. Prior to IO7 in sinced all my songs. I see on the chats that this is a big problem. Do you have any solutions. the songs that dont sync are the same format as those that do.

I select The album that I want to sync on The iPhone on iTunes but the syncronization finishes before all the photos of the selected albums are copied on The phone.

  • Sync iCal with Google Calender

    Is it possible to do a two-way sync with Google Calender and iCal without downloading any software to do it. It is possible to sync Google Calender with Microsoft Outlook already and it seems like it would be simple to sync with iCal if you know the right information to input into iCal about the Google Calender server. Thanks

    G'day Nathaniel,
    You can subscribe to a Google Calendar in iCal - but AFAIK you can't edit it, unless you download additional software.
    If you want to edit your GCAL in iCal try GCALDaemon. More details are at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6921704#6921704.

  • Sync issues with iCal/MobileMe/Google

    Seems like I've come across something rather sticky....
    History
    I have a MacBook Pro and an iPhone 3G. For the first few months of having the phone, syncing worked like a charm... no complaints. I then decided that I needed to get my Appointments etc up online for my colleagues to view as I travel out of the office so went into my Google account and activated the calendar feature, adding GoogleMail as a new calendar in iCal. No problems so far.
    Things seemed to work fine for a little while. A few weeks later (or long enough that I didn't see any correlation), my iPhone sync reverted back to an earlier state of my iCal calendars, including deleting a couple of new calendars I'd added in the meantime. Nothing was affected on my laptop btw. Google had gone completely berko as well. So basically no new additions in iCal were turning up on my phone.
    I then thought, hey I'll try out MobileMe and see if that solves things. Answer = nope. After setting up the account on the iPhone, this old "ghost" calendar decided that it would also sync to MobileMe as well as the iPhone. When I added new things online or on the iPhone, they would both update each other, but never iCal on the laptop.
    So I'm sitting here today pretty much over it, trawling the net for answers. I come across a post that says to simply delete the following folder: user/library/calendar - btw i did backup before i did this!
    I do this, empty trash, then reopen iCal. Blank Canvas!
    And then, after about 20 secs, the old "ghost" calendars pop up out of nowhere, with everything intact from about 2 months ago. I turn off airport, disconnect ethernet and repeat the process. Same thing happens... so somewhere on my laptop is a buried file that is finding it's way into iCal, and also overwriting all sync data just for iCal. Address Book and Mail seem to be doing just fine with MobileMe.
    The reason I guess why I think it's Google interfering (wouldn't be the first time) is that it's the odd one out when the "ghost" returns... I would've thought that deleting the Calendars folder would wipe everything out, but I'm sure when I went through the original GoogleMail thingy, it would've buried something somewhere at the time.
    So any help would be greatly appreciated. It really is driving me absolutely batty!!
    Cheers

    And it looks like I've just answered my own question!!
    Just found this post online, followed all the steps, rebooted, sign out then signed back in to MobileMe, re-registered the laptop and Bob's-your-uncle.
    So if anyone needs help, just follow these easy steps....
    The report shows that you have some data corruption. You should be able to resolve this by resetting Sync Services:
    * Open iSync (in /Applications)
    * Go to preferences
    * Click Reset Sync History
    * Try syncing again
    If that fails to resolve the issue, try replacing the database:
    * If you haven't done so lately, make a backup of your iCal calendars (iCal File menu > Back up iCal)
    * Quit out of all open programs
    * Make sure that nothing is syncing (Spanning Sync, .Mac, iSync)
    * Move these two folders to the trash:
    ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices (~ refers to your home directory)
    ~Library/Application Support/iSync/SyncLocalCopy (~ refers to your home directory)
    * Restart
    * Open iCal and give it a few minutes to write out the new database
    Please let us know if that doesn't address the problem or you have other questions.
    That didn't work in my case, so I ran another report (contained within the Spanning Sync Application) and sent it to them a second time. What they suggested next fixed the problem for me.
    I'm still seeing the same errors in the new report. Lets try clearing your calendar cache:
    * Quit out of iCal if it's open
    * Delete this file:
    ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
    (~ refers to your home directory.)
    * Delete the contents of this folder:
    ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Sync Changes/
    (~ refers to your home directory.)
    * Open iCal
    * Wait at least five minutes until after it finishes "Upgrading Calendars"
    * Sync!

  • ICal vs Google Calender issue fixed in Lion 10.7.3??

    As we all know, Google has disabled DELETE requests from iCal until Apple fixes the 'Setting up iCloud deletes entire Google Calender Agenda' thing.
    However, with the release of Lion 10.7.3 today to developers I would like to ask people to check if this has already changed.

    Indeed. The strange thing is: Apple knows how to do it (else iOS Calender wouldn't work either). What is so hard for such a company to have iCal devs work with iOS Cal team and notify Google when it is fixed?
    Or are the garages seperate (referring to start of tech companies )

  • Can you sync both iCloud and Google Calender at the same time?

    Hi all,
    I am an iCloud/MobileMe user, but have a Google Calender at work with other colleagues.
    Is it possible to sync both to my iPad/iPhone at the same time?
    I am yet to find a way to do this.
    Thanks
