Syncing everything on one computer, syncing music on another.

Right now I have 2 macbook pros, an older one I use for all my music since I use it to Dj. The other laptop I use to currently sync my iPad.
Is there a way I can sync just music from the second laptop? I worry that if I plug it into the second laptop, it will wipe everything.

HI,
The information here may help.

  • Transferring EVERYTHING from one computer to another w/ same source

I want to transfer all my iTunes files (playlists, music, play counts, everything) from one computer to another, on account of the logic board of my old one is messed up and I want to get everything on my Mac Book Pro.
    HOWEVER.
When I was using my old computer, I had my iTunes folder on an external hard drive, which would then be the source of all the music and where the new music would automatically go. So I have the external hard drive, and I can't save the playlists from my old computer because I can't use it.
So how do I transfer all the information? I've tried doing the whole "delete iTunes Data, import XML file" thing and it says it doesn't detect certain music and therefore doesn't place everything where it needs to be.
    Any help?

Well the way to work around it I think would be to remove the hard drive from your broken computer, assuming of course that your broken computer is broken because of something else besides the hard drive.
Put that drive into an external enclosure. Hook up to the new computer. Copy the iTunes stuff from the old drive into the new computer overwriting the existing database files on the internal.
Now with the other external hooked up, start iTunes and see if it then sees everything properly.

    Hey allen72,
Thanks for the question. I understand you wish to transfer your iTunes library to a new computer. There are a few different options for doing so, the following article provides more information:

  • I have a new iPhone and have kept my old one to play music in another room, when i recently updated my new iPhone it has backed up to my old iPhone and I have therefore lost pictures, messages etc from my new phone how can I get it all back?

I have a new iPhone and have kept my old one to play music in another room.  I have recently updated my software on the new iPhone and when it backed up it backed up to the old iPhone, I have therefore lost pictures, messages and apps from my new iPhone as it has backed up to the last session of the old phone, how can I get all my new stuff back and stop it from happening again?

No such thing has occurred.  iPhones do not backup to one another.
It is not possible to backup a different iPhone from the one being updated.
If the iPhone was restored with a backup from a different device, restore it again from the correct backup.

Pay attention when restoring the iPhone and select the correct backup to restore from.

  • SYNC iTunes on one computer with iTunes on another computer

I have two computers and I have used home share. But I would like to be able to bring my playlist and ratings over to another computer and be able to "SYNC" between the computers so when I change a rating is is reflected on the other computer.
The two computers have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and Windows home server (windows server 2003).
I realize that iTunes doesn't have this built in but if there are other suggestions I would like to hear them.

You can only sync music and videos for an iTunes library other than the one you synced with normally if y use the manual method of syncing

  • Syncing info from 1 computer and music on another computer

Can you sync different items from 2 different computers?
For example, I want to sync music from my home computer, and info (ie., contacts, calendars, etc) from my work computer.

    Yes.
Make sure that automatic syncing is not on, then select only the items that you want to sync on each computer.

  • IOS6.1: Can't sync music from another computer?

Previously on 5.1.1 this worked just fine, no I seem to be having problems. Has Apple updated allowances across multiple computers?
I sync and backup my phone to MacBook Pro 1. From here I maintain my iPhone and sync some photos. I sync music from MacBook Pro 2 by dragging and dropping. Manually manage music & videos is checked on both computers when iPhone is plugged in. Both MB Pros are almost the same spec and same OS.
Problem is, when I plug the iphone back into MacBook Pro 1 after adding music from MacBook Pro 2 it removes all the tracks I have synced?
Anyone managing to still do this or has something changed in iOS6.1? Or am I missing something in iTunes 10?

I discovered that my MB Pro 2 had been deauthorized from my iTunes account. Re-authorized and works just fine!

  • Two iPhones, two iTunes accounts, one computer, different music tastes!

I haven't seen an answer to this question yet, though I have seen a theory. I haven't tried it just yet, but I decided I'd ask if there's an easier way.
Myself and my girlfriend have an iPhone 4, and we both have our own iTunes accounts, with our own purchases. In addition to being able to sync purchased songs from one device to another, my problem is we're both using my laptop. Between the both of us, there's nearly 3500 songs. Not all of the songs she has on her phone I listen to, and vice versa. Is there a way to have seperate libraries, with our own songs checked in iTunes to sync to the desired device? The theory I heard is if there are seperate Windows User Accounts, iTunes will recognize their seperate iTunes libraries. But seeing as this is my personal laptop, and she doesn't use it for anything other than syncing her phone, this isn't completely plausible. Additionally, there's some overlap; we do listen to a bunch of the same stuff. Help?

I would go with selected playlists. However, there are other options as explained in How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495

  • Multiple Users, one computer, share music?

Hello! We have several users on one computer, and 1 external hard drive connected. The internal drive isn't very big, the computer is pretty old. There are a lot of audio files on the external that all the users would like to have in their respective iTunes library (and on their iPods). Can this be done? and how? Is this even a Home Sharing problem? If not, I'm sorry.
    Thank you!
    Joanna

On a Mac, you should be able to stream music from one user account to another via Home Sharing. (That way, you can just maintain one set of content files in one user account on the Mac.)
Try Chris's instructions from the following post:
iTunes Home Sharing now works between users on same computer

  • Download movies on one computer, play back on another?

Can I download a movie on to one computer ... copy it to a CD and then play it back on a different computer .... or can you only play it back on the computer you downloaded it on?
    Thanks

If you buy the movies, yes, you can.
If you rent the movies, they won't play if moved in that fashion. The only thing which might work is to sync them to an iPod or iOS device capable of playing them and then using the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes on the other computer.

  • Win8.1 hard drive will not load in one computer but will in another

I have a HP s3707c (product FQ578AA-ABA, Software build 91NAv6PrA1). Win8.1. This computer got stuck in the "preparing automatic repair" loop and will not start windows. It freezes with the windows icon showing and no spinning circle of dots appear. I made a recovery USB and it will not start from it either. I thought that it might be a hard drive problem (or software), but the HP diagnostic test from hitting F9 on start up indicate that everything passes.  I have a second computer that is the same type, so I took the hard drive out of the computer having problems and put it in the one that is not having problems. It started up just fine. I put the hard drive from the good computer into the one having problems and it still would not start up windows from the drve or from the recovery disk. Any suggestion on how I should proceed diagnosing the problem on this machine not starting up windows?

Hello D1P. I understand that the hard drive will work on one computer, but not another one. I do have to point out that the computer you pointed out (FQ578AA), does not have Windows 8.1 drivers, as indicated here. You should reference this document for more information: What if I don't see my operating system.
If you are interested in troubleshooting the issue under this environment, you can test the computer for hardware failures. If there is an error, this indicates that the computer could have a hardware failure. Otherwise, you are likely facing a compatibility issue.
Please let me know the results of you troubleshooting. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Text Track font is missing on one computer, but not on another

I brought in a text track into my QT movie, then saved the whole thing as "self-contained". The font that I set for the text track (with QT descriptor) is Verdana. The problem is that on one computer, the text shows up fine, yet on another laptop, the text shows up as a bunch of boxes instead of characters.
I know that laptop has Verdana as a font on the system, so I am not sure what's going on.
has anyone had that problem before?
    Thanks!

I use a lot of text tracks in my "movies". Since mine are made on a Mac I also use Mac "specific" fonts for some of them. When viewed on a PC the Mac only font always defaults to an appropriate substitute and no one is the wiser.
If there is an issue with a PC only font it should also revert to a similar substitute.
Other issues could be a corrupt font or even duplicates or a conflict.
You may want to experiment a bit with some text track QT files.
Create your plain text (.txt) file and import into QuickTime.
Export it (with text descriptors) back to a text file so you can edit the font. Make a few versions and test the file onvarious computers (Mac and PC).

  • Replacement Photosmart 6520 not installing on one computer but fine on another

I'm bewildered.  I was having an issue with my 6520 not printing black ink, and was sent another (same model) printer as a replacement.  On my Windows 8.1 laptop, it installed just fine.  But on my Windows 7 desktop, the installation software cannot find the printer on the network.  The HP Print and Scan Doctor found it, but was unable to print a test page.  The printer is obviously on the network because the laptop can use it.  The blue light is steady and reports connected to my network.  I've manually entered the IP address but it remains invisible to this one computer.  (Heck, my Android can access it!) I've disabled firewall, uninstalled and reinstalled twice, and am pretty frustrated right now.  Anyone have a clue as to what's going on?

    Hi chroma601,
I understand you received a replacement printer, of the same model, and now you are having some difficulty installing it on your computer running Windows 7.
Have you tried the Printer Install Wizard (PIW)? The HP Printer Install Wizard for Window was created to help Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 users download and install the latest and most appropriate HP software solution for their HP Printer.
If you have not tried the PIW please do, and let me know the outcome.
I look forward to hearing from you.
