Syncing fails: unknown error (-50)

Using iTunes v.9.0.2 music syncs properly to my iPod touch with 3.1.2, but photos and films will not sync. Backup completes but then the sync stops with the warning:
"The iPod cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (-50)".
Any suggestions. The only ref I have seen to error (-50) relates to iTunes on Windows.

This is a big question here--I've seen it asked a lot and have found no answers. I visited a Genius Bar today and had no luck there either. There is an apple support document regarding it, but I can't access it, receiving an alert stating that the "language code supplied is not valid." The document I'm trying to see is labelled:
May get alert stating "Unknown Error (-50)" when syncing from iPhoto to iPhone, iPod, or Apple TV
May get alert stating " Unknown Error (- 50 )" when syncing from iPhoto to iPhone, iPod, or Apple TV
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2985
Maybe you'll have better luck with it than I did. This seems to be a growing problem which Apple has yet to address. I can't sync my iPhone or AppleTV because of this condition, and the only workaround I've come up with is to create a new user account and move everything to that. It *****.

• I keep getting an error message that says "the ipod cannot not be synced""an unknown error occured (13019).

I keep getting an error message that says "the ipod cannot not be synced""an unknown error occured (13019). I am trying to put albums on to my ipod by dragging and dropping. I have it set to manually manage music and videos. The albums appear in the music section under Devices, but they don't appear on my actual ipod.
I have never had any problems doing this before, only in the last few days.

I am having the exact same issue as you are with my iPod nano. This started happening the same day after I updated the iPod software, so I wonder if it is a bug within the software that Apple needs to resolve. I dragged 3 playlists of new music from my iTunes over to my iPod and sometime while it was trying to add those songs, the error 13019 popped up. Another note, which may not be related at all, was that iTunes told me at some point during this process (I believe before the error notification, but I'm not sure and that may be helpful to know) that I did not have enough room on the iPod to copy all of the songs, but it would copy as many as it could. What is curious, like in your situation, is now all the songs it supposedly copied appear to be on the iPod under the Device->iPod->Music label in iTunes when it is plugged into my computer, the playlists in question are also showing up there, and it does indeed say my memory is full under the iPod's general tab in iTunes. However, when going through my actual iPod when it is not plugged in, none of those songs or playlists are anywhere to be found.
Anyways, all the established solutions to the 13019 error do not apply to this situation, as my iPod has always been set to manually managed so "unchecking" the Sync Music option under the Music tab of the iPod and rechecking it will not work because it was never checked in the first place. And voice memos are obviously not applicable since we are not talking about an iPhone failing to sync music.
Unless anyone can provide a new solution here, I may just have to take my computer and iPod up to the genius bar. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The attempt to burn a disc failed, unknown error (261). I get this message every time I try to back up my music from itunes on to a CD. It doesn't matter if I try to back up all music or only music purchased from itunes. So far I have not been able to back up anything. Can someone please help me!!!! +I know my computer is up to date on firmware, because I just bought this laptop 4 months ago - it's a brand new Dell Inspiron 1721.+
Actually, in that case I definitely think you should check your firmware. I just had a look at the 32-bit Vista downloads page at Dell for your Inspiron 1721, and there's firmware updates listed there for four different drive models, all dated within the last four months.

• Ipod cannot be synced. Unknown error (-48)

I've had my 80 gig ipod classic for 4 months now, and I've had very few problems with it. Whenever I've had an issue with iTunes not recognizing the ipod when I plugged it in, it was easily resolved with a reset or reinstalling iTunes, or restarting the computer. However, today when I went to add some new files to my ipod, I had to install the newest version, 1.1.1, and after installing that version and trying to sync the files to my ipod, iTunes simply refused. Repeatedly I'd get the error "Ipod cannot be synced. Unknown error (-48). I've been browsing this site and others to find an answer, I've tried all the standard ipod fixes (five Rs) and toggled with the syncing options, namely syncing only checked songs and manual sync, and it won't load any new music either way. I have Windows XP home edition on a Sony Vaio that's a few years old, and I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me fix this issue with my ipod.
<edit>
Another thing I've noticed is that when I leave my ipod plugged into my computer, the "other" part of what's on my ipod increases slowly. There's actually more of this orange "other" data on my ipod than music, and there's absolutely nothing on my ipod except a few thousand music files and two videos. At least, there shouldn't be.

Oh yes, me too. Two days ago I bought my 160GB iPod Classic, but I have not been able to put anything in it. First the sync seemed to take hours (ca.6GB/1400 songs) and finally I had to disconnect without eject, because the iTunes and my computer got jammed. Again and again the same thing. Unknown error (-48) I recall.
Then after updating the iPod software (now 1.1.1) and reinstalling the iTunes a couple of times, the iTunes does not recognise my iPod at all. iPod says first it is syncing, then just connected, but nothing in iTunes.
Like a kid with who has a brand new toy, but is not able to play with it.
I tried calling the Apple support, but they just dodged the question and apparently had no idea. Anyone, how can I get some music into my brand new iPod?

• Ipod cannot be synced an unknown error occurred (-40)

Had my nano for 6 months no issues with sync of music or photos, a few weeks ago every time I plug it to sync an error "ipod cannot be synced an unknown error occurred (-40)" click ok and it goes ahead with music sync but not photos.

removed photo sync and no error message. checked for updates but ok.

• I upgraded my iphone 5 to iOS 8 and now i get an itunes error message when I try to sync "this iphone cannot be synced. Unknown error.

I upgraded my iphone 5 to iOS 8 and now i get an itunes error message when I try to sync "this iphone cannot be synced. Unknown error. (-50). my icloud drive was stuck in an upgrade cycle, but i've stopped that and still get the error message.

I restarted itunes and tried again (based on a similar question/solution from 2012).
I don't get the error message anymore, but it's really sort of odd that after step one of sync, it looks as if sync stopped, and then all of a sudden you see step 4 of sync.
Also before the upgrade I had 7+ gigs of space free and after the upgrade I have 10 gigs free. seems like something is amiss, but it's not like I have anyway of determining that.

• Syncing iph4 - unknown error (-50)

I am getting the following error message and my iph 4 wont sync calendars - unknown error (-50). Any suggestions?

• No music after 3.0 upg.: cannot be synced an unknown error occurred (-208)

Upgraded my iPhone 3G to 3.0. All went smoothly and everything seems to be working fine. Only issue was that my music had disappeared. Went on to resync it but iTunes shows that the music is still there - but I cannot do anything with it: cannot add to it, cannot delete it, etc. Suspect files are fine but library is corrupt. Was hoping that adding or deleting a song would force a library reindexing but no luck.
"the iphone "name" cannot be synced an unknown error occurred (-208)"
Any suggestion on how to resolve this (outside of a device reset...)?
Thanks in advance.

The software can be found on Download.com, it's Ipod Copy 7.47. It's $20, but works perfectly.

The iPhone cannot be synced. Unknown error (13019) - anyone run into this?

Stephen's got you covered.
I've also seen the following reported cause/workaround:
After several Google searches I found the iPad syncing problem to be caused by iPhoto 9.4 not handling the & correctly in names. It's not recognizing them as & which is causing problems with XML. You can manually change them or wait for Apple to issue a fix to iPhoto 9.4. I started to do the manual fix & I just have too many to change.
(Manual renaming isn't going to be an easy/good workaround for a bunch of folks, though.)

• TFTP 'configuration update' from 5508 WLC fails stating reason as '%Error: Config file transfer failed – Unknown error –refer to log'

Dear Experts,
I have two WLCs and other management devices as part of same subnet. I am able to upload ‘configs’ from all the devices on to my TFTP server. However when I am attempting to do the same from one of my WLC, it is failing consistently stating error message as:
‘%Error: Config file transfer failed – Unknown error –refer to log
Has anyone else too faced the same issue and how would we overcome this? Any specific debug that could help get more details on it?
Though the error message says, refer to log but still I don’t see anything that gets reflected in ‘Monitor logs’ which is related to ‘configuration file’ upload failure.
WLC code: 7.4.100.0
PFA as the error snippet.
Thanks and Regards,

Hi Kaneswaran,
Just a soft reboot helped me solved the problem :). Still I am on 7.4 and facing no issues after this.
Apologies for coming too late to respond. Getting a down time window was not that easy and so was much delayed to try soft reload. I am still on 7.4 and facing no issue.
Glad that in your case it starting working all of a sudden. Could you please verify from 'show tech-support' to confirm if by chance your WLC had undergone any crash that could have caused the WLC to reload and thus accidently fixing the issue :)
Best Regards,
Muhammed Adnan
