Syncing Fast Track Ultra (Slave) With Logic Express (Master)

I'm trying to get my fast track to slave with Logic Express, using Logic as the master. It doesn't appear to be sending out any messages. On my fast track I can get the midi 'in' light to blink but not the 'out.' in Logic, the transport bar on the bottom, says 'no midi' for both the in and the out. Does this sound like a Logic setup issue or a fast track ultra setup issue?

Hi,
1st: You need to set your drum machine clock to external. That's important if you want to make Logic the master. Be aware any clock signal only is available when Logic is in play mode (naturally, but sometimes i forget even the most logical things).
2nd: In the Audio-Midi-Setup, the Fast Track should be displayed. Open the MIDI window (Window-> show MIDI window). Click on the "add device" icon. A new device will be added (new external device). Now open the inspector for this new device. You can name it, adjust all these things like MIDI clock send/receive and other gizmos and give it a nice icon. Now you must "connect" this new device with you Fast track by simpy dragging a line from it's outputs to the Fast track input and vice versa. The MIDI setup window will now represent your hardware's cabeling.
Once you have done this correctly, you should be able to correctly select the Drum machine in Logic.

  • M-Audio Fast Track Pro compatibility with Logic Express

I am looking to add M-Audio Fast Track Pro. Does anyone have feedback for me, such as yes or no, or what else I might consider?
    Thanks,
    Tony

I have one and it works great for me. I'm still using LE8, but I'm sure it works with 9 as well. I use is primarily to record vocals (I've got an older ElectroVoice condenser mic). No complaints. If I had the money, I might go with a Firewire device, since it would be faster (less latency), but I don't have any regrets using the FTPro at all. I also use it to monitor my recording with its headphone jack.

  • Will Logic Pro accomodate a M-Audio Fast Track Ultra?, Will Logic Pro accomodate a M-Audio Fast Track Ultra?

Will Logic Pro accomodate a M-Audio Fast Track Ultra?, Will Logic Pro accomodate a M-Audio Fast Track Ultra?

M-Audio is a bit slow getting drivers out but they eventually get it right so take heart... even companies like Focusrite don't have 100% compatible drivers for some of their hardware.
Not sure if -all- of the recent USB changes were released on time. I'm regularly in touch with a couple of plugin developers and both say Apple is notorious for last minute changes. Don't know if it's true or not.

  • M-Audio Fast Track Ultra Problem with Garage Band

GB is not recognizing my Fast Track unit. Sometimes it does, other times it doesn't. I uninstalled and reloaded drivers as well plugging it in before/after starting up, before/after opening GB. I even tried changing my USB cable. It is very erratic. Any suggestions or anyone else have similar problems?

M-Audio's Fast Track Ultra appears to have some serious issues with the drivers. The unit does not like to stay connected or communicate with your PC. See this thread on the M-Audio site http://forums.m-audio.com/showthread.php?t=1174
I would NOT recommend this product until they get their problems figured out. You quickly will pick up on the thread that M-Audio's solution to an acknowledged hardware issue is to have the customer start messing with their system to see if it corrects the problem. Then if it doesn't, you have the privilege of calling their technical support. One poor chap from Costa Rica was put on hold for 41 minutes and was still waiting. Poor guy is probably still waiting.
I have read through many of the postings and did not find one person who was able to get their problem resolved; not one. Some of the folks had incredible patience with all of the "fixes" that M-Audio staffers were tossing out. They dutifully followed all advice but to no avail. I have to admit, M-Audio must have integrity because they are showing the postings on their website.

  • M-AUDIO Fast Track Ultra with Final Cut 7

I have been using an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra device with Final Cut 6 and could listen to Quicktime 5.1 audio files in the timeline in full surround. Since I installed the Studio 3 upgrade with Final Cut 7 (same OSX version), this is not working anymore. I just have stereo output. When I start my backup version of Final Cut 6, it still work fine.
Any clue how to fix this in Final Cut 7 ?

    Hi,
The 5.1 audio preset was already selected in the setting and each of the 6 audio tracks is assign to the proper speaker. It was the same set-up in the v6 but it was working which is not the case in the v7. There might be a new setting somewhere.
    Thanks for trying.

  • Is Logic Pro X compatible with M Audio Fast Track Ultra ?

I'm running Logic 8 Pro with M-Audio Fast Track Ultra.
I'd like to upgrade to Logic Pro X.
    Will these components be compatible?

If it has a Mountain Lion compatible driver then it should work. (Its not about LPX compatibility.. its about OS X compatibility that matters in almost every case)
    See here for the drivers...
    http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/Fast-Track-Ultra-Drivers
V2.2.2 is 10.8 compatible however there are several threads in their forums that indicate issues with 10.8.3 and higher...
    Here is an example..
    http://community.m-audio.com/m-audio/topics/driver_for_m_audio_fast_track_ultra_ mac_mountain_lion_10_8_3
Given that your interface is no longer a supported item..  and Avid have taken over M-Audio.. it might be that there will be no further updates leaving you unfortunately, with an out of date and no longer supported piece of hardware... which frankly is typical of M-Audio...
As a quick aside... This is why I stick with Motu equipment.. and have done so for many, many years now. Their support both for new and legacy devices is and has always been.. excellent.. and my original Ultralite Mk1 which is at least 7 years old now I believe, is still fully supported in the latest OS X version. using the latest Motu Drivers..
Anyhow.. Check with M-Audio/Avid to find out if this has been resolved......

  • Logic Pro 8 NOT working w/ Fast Track Ultra

I'm new to producing music and i got the older logic pro 8 from a friend today. The problem started when I tried to play a sound and nothing would come out from my Bx8's. I know its not b/c of the system preferences on my macbook cuz i can still play music on my itunes and sounds will still come out from things on the internet. Also, I went to LogicPro>> Preferences>> Audio and i made sure the device was on M-Audio Fast Track Ultra. When i put the device to Built-in Output i get sound so I know it has something to do with logic. If someone could guide me through this it would be GREAT.

I think you've turned things around. The topic title should read "Fast Track Utra not working with Logic".
Since Logic does produce audio when you route to Built In, that means that the FTU is the culprit. Have you installed the right, most recent drivers for it? Not from disk, but DLed from the M-Audio site? And what exact OS X and Logic version do you use?
    regards, Erik.

  • Cannot record any sound with my M-Audio Fast Track Ultra audio interface

Have been using Logic for about 3 months and was able (primarily via keyboards/midi recording) to create some decent recordings (via the 'hard' way, some books, video training and without bothering a lot of people with many of my questions). Time has come to start with analog audio recording and here my problem starts. Have recently purchased the Fast Track Ultra audio interface from M-Audio.
Drivers are installed correctly. The device is saying that it functions properly. It gets recognized by my iMAC. It gets recognized in Logic and can enable the device in my audio preferences. I can clearly see in the control panel of my USB audio interface it is creating sound and meters are going up and down.
I get sound in my head phones (which are connected to the audio interface) but within Logic no sound is coming in while with the build in microphone everything seems to work fine. Have played around all kind of settings in my audio/midi configuration utility but no result.
Who can help me out ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jozef.

Have done a test within Garageband and it works correctly overthere

  • Problems with M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface & FCP\Logic

    Hi gang,
I'm using a small M-Audio (Fast Track Pro) external interface to pump sound from the Mac to my speakers (and to input live sound).
I use it a lot with Logic Audio. No problems.
With FCP it does odd things on occasion. It suddenly starts to feedback, creating a horrendous din. Then I have to shut down FCP, replug the USB connect, even restart the computer to get it working normally again. And sometimes it just goes dead ... NO sound to the speakers.
Anybody come across this kind of thing? Any suggestions?
    Ben

I'm seeing similar things in Logic Express 8.0.1. I didn't experienced this with Logic Express 8.0, though I only used it a handful of times before getting the update.
Using the Fast Track Pro as an output device seems to work fine, but when I create an audio track and monitor my bass the audio tends to drop out after between 5 to 30 seconds; using inserts on the track seems to make it fail faster. Logic looks like its still monitoring, going by the monitor level, for a little longer, then it gets "stuck". If I record the audio track while its stuck and then play back through built-in audio its a clip of the bass, about a half a second or so long, repeating over and over again making it seem like the Fast Track Pro is, itself, stuck.
While it's doing all this Logic and the whole OS have a tendency to lock up for up to probably half a minute, sometimes longer.

  • Sync microKorg with Logic Express 9

I'm trying to sync the arpeggiator of my microKorg XL with Logic Express 9, using Logic as the master. I seem to have almost done it, in that tempo changes in Logic change the microKorg's tempo. However, I can only hear the microKorg whilst I'm either recording or playing back - I can't hear it if I press a few keys.
I think the problem lies in that I have "Local off" set in accordance with the microKorg manual. The manual says I should also "turn on echo back" on the computer - but I don't know how to do this in Logic Express.
    Grateful for advice.

When you set "Local Off" in any synth with MIDI capability, it disconnects synth's keyboard from its sound engine. Switch it back ON to be able to play sounds again using microKorg's keyboard. There is no point to disable the keyboard in your case anyways. Unless of course, you want to avoid midi-loop (but that's only when you have both MIDI IN and MIDI OUT wired to Logic).

  • Guitar "twang" when recording with macmini and M-Audio Fast Track Ultra

hey was hoping someone might have similar setup or enough knowledge to help out.
when i record guitar through my interface i get a clip after each guitar note that sounds very flangey (or like and outter-space type "twang" if that helps describe it) i was hoping it would come out a bit cleaner. and yes i have made sure no effects are turned on. its should be straight up clean guitar, and the notes preceding these clips are in-fact nice and clean. its just the milliseconds after each note that are bothering me.
my biggest issue is i don't know if its being caused by my interface or a bad setting within the program. I am using the build in preamp and plugging directly into the unit, so i'm going to get a mic and see how it sounds then.
I did a lot of research on the D/A interfaces out there and i went with the fast track ultra for the price and because the company really hyped these preamps. this is the general description you will find on sites trying to sell the FTU "4 preamps with award-winning M-Audio Octane technology"
if this noise is cause by a problem with these preamp.... im gona be POBB! i would have saved up and waited to buy and apogee product! anyone out these using an ensemble??? would love to hear some feedback about that unit! thanks in advance for any help!

hey thanks for the reply! i have since adjusted a few parameters and had good luck going directly into the ftu's 1/4in jack in the front. the more i use the program the more im understanding (you can see i'm relieving my neebie side!) i have not messed much with the ftu's control program itself, is this helpful when trying to get good levels and such?
how knowledgable are you about microphones? i have a garbage mic from radio shack and when trying to record my acoustic guitar with it i really need to crank up the input on the ftu and be close to the mic to get a signal. this in turn creates that "fuzzy warm" sound that you can hear before the guitar starts playing. it's that analog sound like going through an old tube-amp or something... now while the instrument is playing its not as noticeable obviously and some people even like to add this sort of effect onto digital stuff to give it that warm feeling...
my question is- what if i want just a nice crisp acoustic recording from my mic into garageband? do i go with something that uses phantompower or what? im just so lost because i don't know much about mics (except they can get REAL expensive... saw one for 7k at guitar center by me!) well sorry for ramblings! thanks in advance for help!

  • Trouble hooking up krk rokit 5's with M-Audio Fast track Ultra

    Hey everybody,
I just picked up a pair of krk rokit 5 monitors and for some reason i am having a really hard time getting sound. i connected the rca into output 1 and 2 on the fast track ultra. I set the FTU as the output and input for logic and in the mac settings. NO SOUND zip nada! I might be doing something wrong so if anyone has any advice or know what to do, lemme know! thanks! I would appreciate it!
    joel

    Hi,
don't use the RCA. most probably you have mistakenly connected the S/PDIF outputs of the Fast Track to you Rokits. You'll need either a standard TRS 3,5'' connector cable - the plugs look like the standard stereo headphone plugs - not the little ones, but the bigger ones (if-ya-no-wod-i-mean).
Or you could use a TRS-XLR cable. Either way, you'll need to use the correct outputs on the Fast track, since there are more than one. I'd suggest you use outputs 1 and 2 (for left and right channel).

Hi Gabe, Let me start by saying I'm not bashing real drum samples for those wanting to make music who aren't drummers. They've come a long way. I've been recording since the 70's Been there, Seen them, Used them, Heard them. To this day theres no sample or program that can duplicate a live kit. You say nobody can tell the difference. Yes, we can! I can hit my snare a hundred different ways in a hundred places on the skin at a hundred different velocities. Thats just one drum. If you do the math thats a lot of hours sitting in front of the computer tweaking samples. I've done it. After pulling my hair out for years. I spent the $$. Mics, Pre amp, Compressors, Gates, Limiters and so on. What used to take days, I can now do in 3 min 20 sec's. It works for Me. At the risk of sounding like an old ****. The art of making music is a lost art ( kinda ) With todays technology. Anybody can sound great. I have a couple of thousand different sounding guitar plug ins. What I do is plug in my guitar to a Marshall amp and crank it up. Thats my plug in. So theres nothin like the real thing!! But have fun and make it real. Bill

  • M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8r HELP!!

    Hello
I am in desperate need of assistance.... I have been using M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8r for some months and it has worked perfectly... only today (just when I needed it most) it stopped working when I plugged it in as usual.
It makes a popping sound and the green and red LEDs along the front panel flash respectively and it will not be found by Logic 9... or anything else for that matter.
I am running MAC OSX 10.6.6 on a Macbook pro
    2.53 GHz Intel Core Duo
    4GB
I remember this did actually happen once before but I simply put the original CD in and re loaded the driver from there and it seemed to work... only, that CD fell foul to a toddler and is basically knackered...
The latest drivers don't seem to be working and I have done everything I can find on here to try and solve it including...
    - Downloading lastest drivers
    - Different leads and ports
    - Downloading latest update combos for snow leopard from apple site, and repairing disc permission in utilities
    - Rebooting holding cmd-alt-P-R which apparently has something to do with resetting RAM
I am not much of a techie... I just like things to work!
Any help gratefully received... I can't afford a new interface and I have lots of work to do
    Many thanks
    T

  • Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and MAudio Fast Track Ultra Help!!!!??

Hello I have the maudio fast track ultra and it won't connect with the new mountain lion 10.8.4 I've tried reinstalling drivers, restarting computer, etc., any help?

I'd suggest you get WiFi Explorer from the Mac App Store. For only $3.99 I find it well worth the cost for the ease of use and better info in relation to the built-in tools.
