Syncing freeze

First time trying to Sync my new iPhone and I can't get passed backup, less than a minute in it appears to freeze. Nothing happens, even after several hours.

The problem has been fixed. Apparently, it was caused by a corrupt AddressBook.data file.
I solved the problem by performing the following steps.
1. Removed the AddressBook.data file from ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
2. Opened Address Book, which now only contained two entries.
3. Opened iCal; got a warning message that syncing with AddressBook would change more than 5% of contacts; cancelled sync.
4. Went back into Address Book, which at that point restored the entries from the AddressBook.data.previous file.
The freezes are now gone.

  • IPod touch sync freezes

iPod touch sync freezes at calendar sync, wired or wireless. Have rebooted computer and restored ipod to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help. After running "Activity Monitor" and going through the iTunes/iPod Touch sync process I was able to determine the suspect application that most likely caused the conflict.
While watching "Activity Monitor" almost immediately an application called "CNQL1208_ButtonManager" crashed - locking up the computer. I was able to determine by checking out a few bulletin boards that this application is the culprit in more than one problem on both Macs and Pc's. It's an app that gets loaded at start-up, which monitors the buttons on the front of my Canon Scanner (Model LiDE 35). Part of the CanoScan software download/driver for this model. I trashed this file and everything appears to work fine. In fact, the sync with my iPod touch seems to happen much faster.
The other possibility is that there was a conflict with PalmBackground Monitor, but this doesn't appear to be the case.
Thanks again for the Activity Monitor suggestion.

  • ITunes 10.6.3.25 is not syncing/freezes every time!

    Tech Stats:
    Windows 7 (32-bit) on a Toshiba Notebook
32GB iPod Touch - purchased in April 2012
    iTunes 10.6.3.25
I'm running iTunes 10.6.3.25 on Windows 7 (32-bit), trying to sync a 32GB iPod Touch. It detects the iPod and 'starts' the sync with the candy cane-striped bar, but then it freezes.
    It generally varies between:
    "Preparing to Sync"
    "Determining tracks to sync"
    "Backup"
    "Checking Downloads"
    "Waiting for sync to start"
"Waiting for changes to be applied"
before it freezes completely and/or won't do ANYTHING. I either have to Ctrl+Alt+Del to stop it (as it comes up 'Not Responding' in Windows Task Manager) or disconnect the iPod from the USB port altogether, whereupon iTunes starts to work again.
There is a VERY RARE occasion when it will start to sync music - 'Syncing music to "My iPod" (Step 5 of 5)', 'Copying 3 of 1233' - then freeze and show "Finishing sync" with the candy cane-striped bar moving for a LONG time, never stopping, and it's only synced a few songs (on one occasion, the max. number of synced songs was 33 out of over 1200). Space and capacity on the iPod is never an issue as I rarely have an iPod (any model) filled to capacity. I still have about 28GB of space left.
A couple of times while the candy cane bar is churning away, I've attempted to eject the iPod. Of course I was asked if I was sure I wanted to and I clicked 'yes', and it came up with a green scrolling bar that said 'Syncing iPod'. It kept scrolling forever with no end in sight. I ended up disconnecting the iPod.
I've tried each of these steps several times:
    Rebooting my laptop.
    Restarting iTunes.
    Resetting my iPod.
    Using different USB ports.
    Using different USB cables.
Re-installing 10.6.3.25 without uninstalling it - Downloading it from Apple and choosing the 'Repair' option.
    Using iTunes in Safe Mode.
Deleting and resetting sync history in iTunes.
    Wi-Fi Sync.
Uninstalling iTunes and going back to an old version (10.5.3.3) - still couldn't sync.
Uninstalling ALL iTunes components as per these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.
    Re-installing 10.6.3.25.
My ABSOLUTE LAST, bottom-of-the-barrel option would be restoring my iPod completely. However, I AM apprehensive about doing this.
I've never had trouble with iTunes before. Only recently (10.6.3.25 and the version prior) did I have trouble syncing, where I connected the iPod and it took several clicks of the 'Sync' button before it would finish it completely without freezing or doing it 'piece-by-piece'. My Firewall settings have never had an impact on anything to do with iTunes.
I HAVE noticed, however, that every so often, my Anti-Virus program (McAfee) will come up with a red warning saying that my 'Real Time Scanning' has been turned off and that my computer is at risk. So I turn it back on again, but it doesn't make a difference to anything. Since I was infected with malware late last year, I don't want to risk getting something nasty again.
I DID, however, lose a few playlists from the current iTunes AND my iPod recently and got them back by following the instructions on this site: http://osxdaily.com/2010/12/07/itunes-playlists-disappeared-recover-missing-itun es-playlists/. I got my playlists back but then this whole drama started with not being able to sync at all.
I'm at my wit's end, I can't figure out what's going on and I don't know what to do next.
EVERYTHING else on the iPod is working flawlessly - games, apps, I even kept my iBooks! - but the problem with syncing is BEYOND me. I've been scouring the internet for days trying to find something that'll help me fix this problem but to no avail.
So please, PLEASE help me! I'm begging you, any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey thanks for replying.
    Here's what I did:
First I tried the Winsock reset in the Command prompt. Nothing changed.
Next, I tried the instructions on http://http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123. The only other program that came up on the 'Winsock Providers' tab on the program was 2 Windows Live applications, which I can do without. So I deleted all Windows Live Applications.
I did the Winsock reset in the Command Prompt again and rebooted my comp.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. iTunes keeps freezing at various stages of the sync, then shows the candy cane-striped bar with either the words 'Finishing sync' or 'Cancelling sync', before showing the Apple logo.
Sometimes, iTunes gets to the syncing stage - "Copying # of ####" - where it will trudge through the first, second and third tracks before flashing "Copying 4 of ####" for a split second and I catch "Cancelling sync" briefly before the Apple logo appears.
Again, I've repeated the steps I mentioned in my previous post. Does ANYONE know when the new version of iTunes is set to be released?! This one is driving me INSANE, to say the least!!

  • Sync freezes my laptop

    Hi
I have the following set up: IPod touch 32GB, Vista Business OS and a new Vaio BX61MN. When I go to sync my touch with ITunes after transferring around 50 songs from my 3,000 library across to the touch......it freezes.
Laptop becomes totally frozen and after 30 mins this message comes up +"IPoint.exe has stopped working"+ I also get a separate box which says +"The iTunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-1450)"+
What I believe is happening here is that iTunes has problems accessing data off the SATA hard drive and so is freezing.
This is what I have been doing:
    1) Turn on laptop.
    2) Connect iPod touch to laptop to open ITunes.
    3) IPod and iTunes automatically begin to sync.
    4) 3,000ish songs start to sync, after 40 to 120 songs sync copy across to my ipod touch the laptop freezes up.
At this time I cannot shut iTunes’s down or open up any other programme. The whole thing sits there like a lemon for ages, 30 mins plus. I have recently discovered that if I unplug the iPod (which I hate to do unless by the correct methods) then the laptop gets back some functionality but it runs as if 25megs of ram were installed, runs like a pig until I reboot which can take 30 mins to 3 hours in one case.
If I switch sync off then I can drag the entire library into my touch with no problems, it all transfers across but after that when I switch sync back on.......it freezes again even though it is not now moving songs onto my iPod.
    Any help would be great.

  • Ipod sync freezes when trying to sync from an external drive

I just bought a Seagate FreeAgent external hard drive (model # ST305004DA1E1-RK)because I was running out of space on my desktop. I have itunes set up on my desktop hard drive and my library set up on my external and the itunes works fine when listening and/or orgainizing my music, but when I plug in my ipod while the external is pluggged in I get a 'USB Device Not Recognized' warning. But if I unplug the external and re-plug in the ipod, itunes will recognize it. But if I re-plug in the hard drive and try to sync the ipod, it freezes up. I have tried to run the itunes software directly from the external drive, but I get the same 'USB Device Not Recognized' warning when I plug in the ipod while the external is still plugged in. Any thoughts?

As a test, try removing all USB devices except a standard keyboard and mouse, including any USB hub. Connect the hard drive and iPod directly to the computer. See if that works.
If it works, try to figure out which USB device makes it NOT work, treating any USB hub as a device.
If it still does not work, try using the Restore button in iTunes to see of that helps. This will erase the iPod and restore it to original settings.

  • IPod sync freezes my whole computer

    Hi everyone
I'm having this really annoying problem of when I plug my iPod (120gb) into my computer my whole computer crashes, literally, I cant move the mouse, even the caps lock light on my keyboard wont come on or anything. I messed around with iTunes when it 1st happened and it worked again for about a week or so then it started to freeze up again. And I've tried all the usual 'resetting the iPod' and all the other stuff
Also, when I plug the iPod in not even the screen with the 'Do Not Disconnect' message comes up, the backlight comes on and the main menu or whatever screen I had on last appears and I'm still able to work the iPod as I normally would be able too
    Any help would be great
P.S. I don't know a lot about computers so I wont be able to tell you any information about it lol, sorry
    Thanks again, Jack

  • IPhone sync freeze problem

I've searched all the posts and tried everything (I think) but still have a problem. Syncing iPhone causes iTunes to freeze with force-quit the only option. Here's what I've tried:
    - repaired permissions
    - repaired drive (Disk Util)
    - repaired drive (Disk Warrior)
    - re-installed iTunes
    - reset sync history
I've even unchecked each sync item to attempt a one-at-a-time sync. It never gets passed "backing up iPhone", though. What next? Is it the iPhone or the computer causing the problem? I'm at a loss and notice that others have posted similar problems. Could it be the latest iTunes update?

FYI - Solution to the problem seems to have been upgrading to Snow Leopard. Syncing now runs without a hitch.

  • Syncing freezes while trying to sync movie

I have the 80 gb ipod classic, and I just recently downloaded my digital copy of SATC. It works fine with itunes, but when i try to copy it over to my ipod it freezes at 30 mb. I have to unplug my ipod from the computer because even if I hit the stop syncing button it does nothing. I have MORE than enough space and I have tried everything here. Does anyone know what is wrong and how I can get this movie onto my ipod??

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen iTunes Sync Freezing Issue

My iPod Touch 4th Generation freezes during the "Backing up" stage of sync. Nothing I have tried so far has resolved this issue and it's getting very annoying seeing as how I can't sync my iPod at all. I know it isn't just the iPod's fault, because it happened to my older one too. I've done everything I have found people suggesting and none of it has worked. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
I am running Windows 7 64-Bit platform on iTunes 10.6.0.40

  • Ipod not syncing freezes

ipod 80gb classic freezes itunes after transferring a fraction of my music, then ipod says it has no music. Freezes itunes and can not get back

I'm not sure that if this is exactly the same problem you're having but it sounds similiar...
I have just purchased a new ipod classic 160, and have attempted to sync it with my itunes 9.1 library. It managed to sync about 3 Gb and then an error message came up saying "Attempting to copy to the disk "iPod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." I then tried manually transferring the music and was successful with some of the music, but with other tracks the same error message came up. I performed a restore on the iPod, as I initially formatted it on a PC, not my Mac, and thought this might be the problem. Unfortunately this didn't fix it. As far as I can see there is no pattern to the tracks that it won't load on (well not to my eyes anyway). I would be grateful for any suggestions as I'm off traveling in a few days time without my laptop and can't imagine myself without my music collection!

  • Long syncs freeze

Any sync that takes longer than a few minutes freezes after 3 till sometimes 15 minutes.
    Specifically:
    Spotlight indexing.
Music transfer from MacBook Pro to iPhone 5 (ONLY music, everything else syncs).
    Timemachine
    SuperDuper backup
Straightforward backup: dragging large files from my computer to my external HD
Freezes start with standstill of the activity bar, then when I move my cursor, the beachball appears and after a while the clock stops. Nothing works then. I can only force quit the computer and restart.
Only positive thing: my 4-years old MacBook Pro is lightening fast again as if it just came out of the box (it became slower over the years).
I have tried all the tricks, even reloaded OS 10.7
ALL software and Mac OS are up-to-date.
Only 20% of my HD is full.
    No funny apps or utilities.
I have had Mac technicians look at it for 2 weeks. Tested hardware. All OK.
I have asked around on a few forums but NOBODY could give me a solution.
    Still hoping I find someone.
