Syncing from an iPod

I have 2 iPods and 1 iTouch, and they were initially synced to other computers that I legitimately owned but that are now dead (crashed). Is there a way I can sync them to my present computer so that I can have the music that I purchased from the iTunes Store and play all of my music on any of those Apple devices?

I sync via iCloud, everything is up to date except I am running OS X Maverick, I have checked in Mail in my iCloud account: nothing there / checked in the Notes application on the Mac: nothing there. Notes are syncing in the iCloud system preference panel but are nowhere to be found...

Photos in the iPhone's Camera Roll are not included with the iTunes sync process except for being included with the iPhone's backup which is updated at the first step during the iTunes sync process if the iPhone was being backed up with iTunes on your computer.
Photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera which is not handled by iTunes.

  • HT1386 i want to sync from my ipod to a new library but ipod recognises that content is already held in another library (on an external drive, now broken which i cannot access). Help?

help needed please.  I haven't used my ipod for some time - my library content is stored on an external hard drive, which i also haven't used for some time.  now that i have an ipad i wanted to sync everything but the external drive is broken.  i have uploaded and updated all software for ipod/itunes onto my laptop but the programme is recognising that i have a library elsewhere and will only allow me to update from laptop to ipod (which would delete all my music). Can anyone suggest a way around this?  many thanks!

  • Stream or syncing from an iPod?

After my 18 month old Airport Express inevitably packed up and stopped working I decided to upgrade to AppleTV. To be honest unless I'm missing something AppleTV doesn't seem to be able to do half the stuff I'd hoped for.
Is there anyway I can get the playlists on my iPod to stream to Apple TV?
Or is there anyway I can use AppleTV to sync to my iPod playlists?
From what I can see the only benefit to syncing is so that I can listen to music on the odd occasion my laptop is actually switched off.
I've spent hours putting large playlists onto my AppleTV, but can I add to them without having all the original tracks constantly on my laptop hard drive as well? I don't want stuff that's already on AppleTV to be removed each time I upload (sync).
Bottom line is that I never have enough space on my MacBook Pro to hold my mp3 collection. All my music is on my iPod and it used to be so simple to just plug it into my laptop and stream straight to Airport Express. When I purchased a new album I'd copy it onto my iPod and then remove it from my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro to save space.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

I have been having a similar issue. My problem is that I bought Heroes Season 1 on iTunes. I downloaded some episodes on my laptop at home, and I downloaded others from my desktop at work, which I then put on my iPod to watch on the subway. Only later did I learn that you can only download video content to one computer even though you bought and paid for it (this rip-off is a topic for another thread).
Anyway, I have been able to get around the problem by connecting my iPod to my laptop whenever I want to watch that content, which allows me to watch the shows on my laptop.
What I cannot seem to do, however, is stream my iPod through Apple TV so that I can watch the video content that exists on my iPod but that is not on my laptop. I can connect the iPod to my laptop while Apple TV is also on and synced, but none of the iPod content appears to be accessible through Apple TV.
It sounds like we have a similar problem. Hopefully someone can help us out -- I can't imagine that Apple TV would not have the capability to stream video stored on an iPod, particularly given iTunes' draconian video download restrictions.

  • HT201272 I recently got a new computer and authorized it. I have only been able to find the newest of purchases. I am missing hundreds of downloads/playlists and cannot get them to sync from my ipod. How do I locate all my playlists?

I have hundreds of songs, most of them purchased from the ITunes Store. I am only able to find the newest of purchases. I have a new laptop (my old one died) and have de-authorized the old PC and authorized the new one.
I thought I might have two separate id's, for some reason, but am unable to find any info re the possible second one. i.e., cannot log in, apple does not recognize it as a user id.
Everything I have/had is on my IPod but I am unable to migrate the music from the IPod to my PC. I have downloaded all the updates for the PC and the IPod. I am at a loss as to how to recover my music and cannot find a way to contact anyone at Apple without having to pay a fee.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Syncing from an iPod to a computer?

Is it possible to have a computer get synchronized from an iPod, as opposed to the usual (computer => iPod)?
I have suffered damage to my plist file after an update and would like to restore my computer's iTunes to its original state.
    Thanks!

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and clone playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Senuti Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • What is synced from my iPod touch to iTunes when I transfer purchases?

I clicked to go ahead with updating software for iPod Touch (4th gen), but got a warning that I should first transfer all purchased items from iPod to iTunes Library. I don't know that much about iPod, so I would appreciate an answer: what does this mean? I see that when I look at the iPod part of iTunes sidebar there is a category called "Purchased," and in it are various items, all of them PDFs I think, that were not purchased but just saved attachments from emails, which show up in the iBooks app. However I have purchased a few apps for the iTouch. Will I lose my PDFs if I don't drag them into somewhere in the upper Library section of the iTunes window? But where, then? The categories are only Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Apps and Radio. These files are none of the above.
(My actual, real purchases-- i.e., a few apps, are already in iTunes' Library>Apps section so I assume these are not the purchases referred to in the download warning.)

    - Here is how you transfer iTunes purchases from your iPod to your computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
    - You can also redownload app at no additional cost. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
    - If the PDFs are in your iTunes library on your computer you will not loose them when updating.

  • Help Please! Syncing from my ipod touch

I've connected my ipod to my computer as per and it's synced all the purchases i've made on my ipod to my computer, but just at the end it gives an error message and lo and behold i've lost about 1000 songs. Not sure where, or which ones, but my numbers are down. My playlists have gone and there are now only 2 songs in the 'purchased on ipod' playlist when there should be about 100. The songs that are in my library now seem to be really outdated - i mean that it's only saying that i've played them a couple of times, when this is not the case. I have all the purchase histories for my music on itunes, so i suppose i can get these back from apple if neccessary, but thought i'd see if anyone was any the wiser first! And also was curious to know if anyone knew how to get in touch with apple...?
    Thanks!
    Amy

*I have all the purchase histories for my music on itunes, so i suppose i can get these back from apple if neccessary*
The policy on iTunes purchases is that (apart from Apps) you can only download them once and if they are lost you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on this link you'll be able to email your query: Customer Service - iTunes Store Support

  • HT1459 how do I sync from my ipod to an empty itunes library without loosing all the songs on the ipod

I have had to change my computer and lost all my itunes libraries/
I still have them on my ipod/
is ther a way to sync all from ipod to computer
    Thanks Ruth

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software.  A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • HT1382 how can I sync music from a iPOD Nano Generation 4 to an iPhone 5?

I have just bought my first iPhone.  I went with the iPhone 5.  I also have an older iPod Nano that I have had for several years.  Almost all of my music is located on the iPod and only the songs I have purchased through iTunes Store are showing up on my iTunes account.  How can I get the music files to sync from the iPod Nano to the iPhone 5?  I have already set up iCloud on my iPhone 5 but I don't think that will help me with getting the music from the iPod Nano to the iPhone 5.  Thank you

There is no supported way to transfer library content synced to an iDevice to another iDevice.  You also cannot sync library content from an iDevice to a different iTunes library.  Content transfer is from the itunes library on the computer to the iDevice.
The one exception is purchased content (from the iTunes store), which can be transferred to the computer by selecting the "Transfer Purchases" menu option with hte device connected to the computer.
The only resolution I could offer, is that you "Could" (assuming you still have the original computer with the content) transfer the music via homesharing or another method listed in the following KB article:

  • How to sync from iPod to another IPod Shuffle

Can I sync playlist from an older model iPod shuffle to a new 4th generation iPod shuffle without losing the playlist on the original iPod shuffle?

If the songs on the old shuffle are in your iTunes music library, you'll need to sync the same songs to the new shuffle from your iTunes library.  You can't sync from one iPod to another iPod.
If the songs on the old shuffle are not in your current iTunes library, you first need to off-load the song files from the old shuffle, add them to your iTunes library, then sync those songs to the new shuffle.
You can't transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
