Syncing iBooks Samples and PDFs

It appears that iBooks Samples and PDFs are not synced anywhere. So if you want the same iBooks Samples on your iPad and iPhone, you have to download to each device separately.
And, particularly frustrating, if you upgrade to a new device (I just bought an iPad Air) and restore from your earlier device, ALL your iBooks Samples and PDFs are gone. This is also true if you have to restore from a backup.
So you need to write down everything you had on the old device (or before the restore) and redo it, one-by-one-byyyyyyyy-onnnnnneeeeeeeee-by-...... In 2013!
There is no reason iTunes cannot back these iBooks Samples and PDFs like everything else.
Apple, perhaps you could respond.

Hi all,
I have been trying to archive my pdfs and ePubs to my computer via iTunes. It used to be I could back everything up to my iTunes library on my desktop and then I could select which songs to sync on my iPad, but the option to select sync is greyed out. I am planning on deleting all unnecessary pdfs and books off of my iPad as they are taking up a lot of space. I can't update to iOS 7 as the books and pdfs are taking up a lot of space. Most of my books were made by my school, so I can't redownload things as purchases.
Im running:
iTunes 11
iOS 6
Latest version of iBooks

How to sync books and PDFs on Mac iBook App to iPad iBook App

On Macbook, iBook used to be part of iTune. Now it is an independent component. Here is my problem. I found no way to sync the books and PDFs in iBook library on MacBook to my iPad. How can I sync?

You should be able to sync them in a similar way to how you used to sync them, it's just that now you use the iBooks app on your Mac to manage your ibooks/PDFs/epubs library on your Mac instead of within iTunes.
If you connect your iPad to your Mac's iTunes and select the iPad, one of the tabs across the top of the screen should be Books which you can use to select which of your Mac's iBooks library to sync to it e.g. with the left-hand sidebar in iTunes disabled (option-command-S) I see :

Can I sync my microsoft word and PDF files on my palm?

I am new to the Plam family and I have a question. I use my Palm for bussiness as I'm sure most of us do, however can I sync my microsoft word and PDF files into my palm?
I use contract all the time and I need to view a contract from time to time, I'm not sure how to sync these files on my palm... is the palm windows mobile?
If I could get as much info as I can about this all the how to's that would be awesome!

Hey Paul welcome to the Palm forums.
Your Verizon Pre Plus runs a mobile operating system called HP/Palm webOS. The current release is 1.4.5. The phone can connect to a corporate Microsoft Exchange server. When it does, it uses a sync technology called "Exchange Active Sync," but your phone does not run the Windows Mobile or Windows Phone operating system.
Syncing Microsoft Office and PDF documents has been sort of an adventure since the Pre debuted over 18 months ago.
DataViz, the makers of the Doc View application, was partially acquired by RIM, the makes of the BlackBerry, and have decided to not release a full version of Documents To Go for webOS devices. Palm is working with the makers of QuickOffice to bring full Office document support to webOS in the future.
For now, if you put Office documents and PDF files in the USB storage area of your Pre, Doc View or PDF will find them and allow you to view them on your Pre. I put all of my documents in a folder simply called "Documents".
If you connect the charging/sync cable to your Pre and then attach it to your Mac or Windows PC, you will be given a choice to turn on USB Drive mode. When you do, you will be able to work with your Pre like you would a standard USB flash drive. Eject the Pre from your PCs desktop when you are done and you should be all set.

Thanks for your help Brij011 - much appreciated. Apologies as I'm a newbie but I've looked at the info for synching and I appear to have all the switches flicked on my iPad. Does the iPad and iBooks only sync in iCloud for purchases as I appear to be doing something wrong. I could sync ok when books was in iTunes but since migrating to Mavericks I think I'm doing something wrong!!

Are all books and PDF files available in the iBooks app on your iPhone available in your iTunes library on your computer?

Are the PDFs and ibooks on your computer's iTunes ? If so then you should be able to re-sync them, if not then you can re-download ibooks for free as long as they are still available in the store and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to buy them : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 . The backup doesn't contain the contents of the ibooks app, so for them to be restored to the device they needed to be in your iTunes library.

I looked up many discussions, blog posts etc, but seem get conflicting answers. I really want to know whether I can sync non-purchase (from ibook store) pdf from my mac (maverick) to ipad ibook apps. I tried many times, but failed to do so. I never try books. Does pdf must be sync through iTunes or by email?
The icloud sync is really frustrating. Previously, it took me quite a lot efforts to sort out the sync between pages and numbers. Not because I didn't do the right settings, but problems just arrived after upgrade mavericks. And I had to uninstall and reinstall the apps several times to make them work. So I wonder it is the same problem with the ibook.

Yes, eBooks (either PDF or EPUB) not purchased from the iTunes Store can be synced to iOS devices but not via the cloud. You must do it via USB.
1. Make sure the eBook is in the iBooks library.
2. Connect the iOS device to your computer via USB.
3. Open iTunes and select the device, then select Books.
4. Make sure "sync books" is selected and choose either the "all books" or "selected books" radio buttons. If you select "selected books" you'll need to then also select the eBooks to sync.
5. Click the Sync button.

Unsure how to sync ibooks between ipad and iphone

A few months ago I downloaded an extensive collection of work documents, in pdf format. They've been saved in ibooks on my iphone. After having synced my phone to my itunes, I currently see that I have those documents in Itunes. However, not knowing how to sync between iphone and ipad, I had uploaded those documents manually to my ipad via email. Now I have some mismatching documents in ibooks. I am wondering how to rectify this. I wonder if I could erase my ipad, and restart it as a new ipad, then sync it with my itunes on my computer, in order to upload the appropriate documents into ibooks. Thoughts?? Thank you!

PDF's don't sync between devices in iBooks, if you want to do that use something like Adobe reader.

Not to mention the fact that pdf docs sync via iTunes and not iCloud..???
Not to mention that the initial document has to be inserted on the Mac for sync to work.

Just updated my MBP to Mavericks and only a few items have synced from my phone to the mac in iBooks. The phone was also updated to iOS7.0.3 (the latest) today too before the Mavericks update.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is this a bug which will hopefully be fixed shortly? Or is there something I can do to resolve this?
I have a number of .pdf´s in iBooks (.pdf books) on the phone and would obviously want everything on the phone accessible on the computer, as is the idea.

This has been my headache since day one and a complete swing and a miss by Apple. I haven't been able to get ANYTHING I have not explicitely purchased from iTunes to sync in iBooks across device.
For example: If I load an ePub or PDF into iTunes and "manually" add to a device, this works just fine.
However, if I open a PDF file on my iPhone into iBooks, it doesn't show up in any of my other devices, including the new iBooks on my iMac with Maverick. it doesn't matter which device it's added, nothing syncs if it's not purchased from iTunes.
Please, someone make me a liar and tell me I've completely missed something.
Apple: Why or why can't I add PDF files to iBooks on my iMac and have them automagically show up in the collection I created on all my devices? Because I didn't purchase them from you, you say? Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Then don't let me add it in the first place and stop advertising "my content anywhere on any device" because this has been broken from day one.

IBooks to sync Bookmarks even on PDF

I just want to know that it's anyway to sycn bookmarks for every PDF in iBooks app.
Because I have to deal with a hundred page in a PDF file and it will be more easiler if i can deal it from iBooks on Mac.

My iBook has at least 350 PDF file, some of them big i.e 40 MB

Yup, it was uploaded to our school Wiki as a PDF, and Pages did open it. I was then able to move it to iBooks, but I'd rather avoid the extra steps.
