  • IPhone: Syncing iCal on my laptop

I am having trouble syncing my iPhone calendar to my laptop. It will not put events that I have created on my phone onto my laptop calendar. It will put events created on my laptop onto my phone. I do not have the same problem on my iMac in my office. Any ideas?

Here are a few steps to try.
    1. Turn off .Mac Sync in System Preferences.
    2. Just to be safe, open iCal and back up your calendar. File -> Back up iCal.
    3. In iCal, export all your calendars as file(s). File -> Export.
    4. Delete all your calendars from iCal even subscribed calendars. You will have to create a temp calendar, because ical will not let you delete all calendars
    5. Now that all your calendars are gone, quit ical and reopen. This is just to make sure all calendars, except he temp calendar, are gone.
    6. Now open applications -> isync and reset sync history found in the isync preferences.
    7. After sync history is reset you can quit isync.
    8. Import the calendars you just exported.
    9. Open iTunes sync with iPhone, telling iTunes to replace all ical data on my iPhone . This is found in the advanced section ant the bottom of the info tab page.
    Hope this helps.

  • Running Mac OSX 10.4.11 and cannot find sync button under "Preferences." Have 2 laptops I wish to sync w/desktop. (Laptops run 10.6 and 10.7, sync easily found)

Did sync replace xmarks? Is it possible to sync using my older Mac OS? My desktop is my primary working computer, but I need my laptops to have same bookmarks, etc. Thanks for any help!

Thanks, Ibai. This worked. Now a new problem: Regular bookmarks have synced, but the "bookmarks toolbar" hasn't. All I can see are "Most Visited" and "Latest Headlines" etc. I prefer the setup I have on my old computer. Any idea why not all my bookmarks have synced? Thanks in advance!

  • Syncing iCal & other info between laptop & desktop?

Is the only way to do this, without doing the target disk thing every time, via a .Mac account? I'm new to mobile computing (i.e. just bought my SR MBP last night) and I can't find all the info I need.
I will want to sync obvious things like iCal but also random stuff like my WoW settings and Firefox bookmarks. Is it possible to do this with the .Mac sync thing? Or is there another program out there that can make this happen?
Thanks, I know, I'm clueless, even though I did search first.

I never wanted a .Mac account but it seems pretty indispensable if you have a laptop and a desktop.
Actually that's not quite true and comes down to the sort of workflow you have. I have both a desktop and laptop and don't have .Mac.
For instance, for iCal calendars I've set up my Mac mini (which is internet connected - I could have used my Mac Pro fr the same thing but the mini uses far less power) to share them. Granted I can only edit them from one place (my desktop) but that's ok. For everything else when I'm on the road I share a calendar from my MBP back. For addresses, I don't particularly care as they're always all on my mobile phone and iPod anyway. I just copy the Address Book database over every now and then. Same goes for my bookmarks.
All of the rest gets copied around via network file sharing, via a 40GB iPod disk use else a flash drive. Only rarely will my MP get cloned to my MBP (at the moment it's physically not possible do to my MBP's 120GB drive).

  • ICal syncing from desktop to iPhone and iPad is a nightmare

I have a mid-2011 MBA running Mountain Lion, an iPhone 5C, and an iPad 2.
I use the Lightning add-on for Thunderbird for a calendar, but it is buggy. I really want to go back to iCal so I can have my calendar on my phone and on my iPad, but syncing is a nightmare. I cannot find any plain language information on the rationale behind why syncing works the way it does so that I can figure out how to make it work correctly.
    What I want:
iCal desktop to be my primary calendar and to sync all updates to my iPad and iPhone. If I add an update on my iPad or iPhone, I want it to show up on iCal the next time I connect my device to the computer.
    What actually happens:
iCal desktop is the secondary calendar. Anything that happens on the iPad and iPhone is more important. If I add an iCal event on the desktop app while I am connected to my iPhone and iPad, the events I create disappear because they do not exist on the iPad and iPhone. If I create them when the devices are not connected, when I do connect I either lose the events or they get triplicated.
I do not use iCloud to sync, only iTunes by checking 'sync calendars.' I have given up on ever making iCloud syncing work for anything. Last time I tried it, it just deleted all my books, music, movies, etc. (thank goodness for Time Machine backups) and quadrupled all my calendar events...
Can someone please take pity on me and explain how to make syncing

Can't edit posts for some reason and my post got truncated.
"... to make syncing work between my Apple devices. I am a savvy computer user and that this boggles me frankly boggles me."
    Thank you.

  • ICal (desktop) to iPhone sync not working

My problem is with syncing iCal to my iPhone 4S.  If I enter an event in the iPhone, it syncs via cloud to my desktop iCal program, but items entered on the desktop version don't push to the iPhone.  Both calendars are set to the same calendar.
Any ideas about what I'm missing?
    thanks

Try moving your calendar cache files from your user /Library/Calendars folder to your desktop, then restart iCal. If that doesn't work, try moving the entire Calendars folder. iCal will rebuild these upon restart but this last step will remove all your local calendar events if you have any. Don't worry, they're still in the folder you moved. If you happne to be syncing calendars via mobileme you can just sync them back down. You could also rebuild your events via an iPhone sync.

  • Keeping my desktop and laptop in sync

I'm sure I'm not the first one wondering about this. I got my second Mac a MBP 15" in december and since then I've been looking for a way to keep my desktop and laptop in sync.
I would like to keep things like my iTunes library and iPhoto library and my project folder on booth the machines. The iMac runs 10.5 and the MBP runs 10.6 OSX.
None of the folders change much but I do subscribe to some podcasts and I'd really like to be able to sync my iphone on booth computers also.
I've looked at ChronoSync and using rsync but I'm not quite sure about it yet so I thought I'd ask here. Any ideas are very welcome.

Don't use both Xmarks and Sync on the same devices, there have been a number of user reports here of conflicts when using both - such as corrupted data, lost data, or scrambled data.
IMHO, at this time you might be better off using Xmarks, assuming it has been working properly for you. Sync hasn't been working properly for about 5% of its users for a few months now; definitely not a proper level of service to brag about, IMO. And since the inclusion of Add-ons in the sync process, mention of capacity issues requiring more servers.
As far as the differences between Sync and Xmarks, I wouldn't know. I gave up on using it when it was slated to be shut down back in 2010, and then was acquired by Last Pass. I switched to Sync at that time, and feel more comfortable with the level of security provided by Sync (encrypted data before it leaves the users PC, and while on the Sync servers).

  • Can I sync a desktop, laptop and iPhone?

I want to sync my desktop, laptop and iPhone - I am able to sync 2 of the 3 - but not all 3 of them.
Is it possible to sync them all?
If not, if I bookmark something on the one that isn't synced, then it won't be added to my iphone (for example).
    Thank you!
    Kayci

You are talking about the menu bar of Itunes, right?
Yes. With iTunes open the menu bar is at the top of your screen.
where exactly is the Store/synck you iphone option?
After you authorize the computer connect your iPhone then follow the instructions here > iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
When you are done transferring the data to the desktop, right or control click the iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window then click Back Up.
That way you will have a backup just in case you need to restore your iPhone.

  • Itunes desktop to laptop sync

Is it possible to sync itunes from desktop G5 to powerbook laptop ? Basically I listen to a lot of podcasts at work on my desktop. When I get home I then continue to listen to them on my laptop ( both itunes are authorized). The key issue is play lists – when I delete a podcast on my destop at work it is still showing on my laptop. I want to sync itunes on my laptop so it’s a mirror version of my desktop.
At work my desktop G5 and laptop are connected via Ethernet.
    Please help.
    Thank you

Your current iOS version is shown at Settings > General > About > Version.
You cannot load iOS from the internet.  You must do it through iTunes.  If you have iOS 5 or higher, you can do it over-the-air (if your iPad is very well charged and you have a good wifi connection):
Settings > General > Software Update

  • Sync iCal on laptop with Snow Leopard rather than Lion

My netwok has both Lion and Snow Leopard computers. I used to sync iCal using MobileMe but have moved the Lion machines to iCloud. I would like to continue syncing my iCal to the Snow Leopard machine. Is this possible and if so how do I do it?

You need to copy the Domain.sites2 file (iWeb 3) that's in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on the SL Mac to the same folder on your iMac.
In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. Then you'll be able to easily find that folder and move the domain file into it.  WARNING: Be sure that the domain file has a different name than the one currently there so you don't overwrite it.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
