Syncing iCal using .Mac causing duplicate events

I just got a new PowerBook laptop with Leopard. I also have an iMac running Tiger.
I synced the new PowerBook and iCal looked great. Then I added a couple of events on the PowerBook and synced again with .Mac.
The next time I synced my iMac, I had literally hundreds of duplicate events.
I went through and deleted all the duplicates and synced the iMac to make sure .Mac would be clean without duplicates.
The next time I used the PowerBook and synced it, I ended up with duplicates on the iMac again.
I was keeping my iCal synced with my old laptop running Tiger and never had this problem.
Does anyone have a fix? Help!!!

I stumbled on this discussion and am chiming in because I've just upgraded to Leopard on my home laptop, and this a.m., after trying to sync iCal on my work computer (running 10.4.11) with my .Mac account and my home computer, iCal has crashed repeatedly when the "Resolve Conflicts" window comes up.
Interestingly, all of the "conflicts" actually appear to be identical duplicates, although I can't be sure because it's crashed before I can get beyond the 3rd or 4th "conflict" every time.
This is the first time I've tried to sync the calendars between the two computers since I installed Leopard over the holidays. Because I work for a big university, it'll be a while until they update the system on my work machine...
Anyone else experiencing these duplication-related crashes? I'm wondering if I'm going to have to wipe one of my calendars clean.

  • Error when trying to sync iCal and .mac

    Hi all
I'm running iCal 2.0.3 on an iBook with 10.4.3. Every time I try to sync iCal via .Mac, I get the following error:
The protocol „/tmp/gs/isync/3rFduE“ could not be copied or moved to „/Users/gs/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/Compat/DotMacPAPIClient/com.apple.DotMacLegacy/Input /37CFD216-92B7-11D8-9634-003065B36BBE.D000.CLOG“.
(Note: The error message was translated from german).
I trashed the iCal prefs, caches, the folder ~/Library/ApplicationSupport/SyncService and ~/Library/iCal to no avail. Sync works perfect on any other of my Macs, it's just this iBook.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Tina

Never mind - had to do a reinstall anyway, now it works.

  • ISync & iCal : Why does it duplicate events?

Just yesterday started using a new Nokia 2730 mobile phone. The first time I used iSync it seemed to correctly transfer all my calendar events onto the phone. However, with every new sync, duplicate calendar events are appearing both in iCal and my mobile phone.
    Can someone please help me...
    a. Understand why this is happening?
    b. What settings must I put in (iSync? iCal? MobileMe?) to stop this from happening every time I want to sync?
    c. How do I remove all the duplicate events already created in iCal?
    Many thanks!

"Open "Settings" on the iPod Touch>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks>Accounts>your MobileMe account and turn off Calendars, when prompted delete data, and wait two minutes, then turn Calendars back on. When asked merge the data, make that choice, and wait patiently. You should no longer have duplicates. If you are able, I recommend using a Wi-Fi connection to make the change. Then do the same thing for Contacts."
come on guys macs are easy but you really expect them to be idiot proof.... take a little initiative instead of complaining and it might pay off more. It took me a grand total of 2 min to find the workaround.... prob less time than it took you to whip off these posts.

  • Sync iCal between macs

Events are not showing up between my Powerbook G4 and desktop iMac G5. This is a recent problem. I followed the "help" guidelines for resetting sync but that did not fix things. ICal preferences and .mac sync appear to be set correctly on both computers.

While you can synchronize both published and subscribed calendars, it is not necessary to publish a calendar in order to synchronize it. The process of synchronization has no relationship to publication or subscription.
The synchronize calendars using .Mac Sync, follow the instructions shown here:
    http://www.mac.com/1/learningcenter/Modules/qgdmSynct1.html
Calendar synchronization is an all-or-nothing proposition: you cannot select which individual calendars are synchronized, all are or none are.

  • Syncing ical on mac and iphone

I have a mac book pro and iPhone 3gs and iCloud.  My calendars are not syncing.  When I enter in ical using my iPhone i can see them in iCloud but not the mac.  when i enter in ical using the mac, i do not see the event anywhere else.  any suggestions?

Check you are logged into the same account on all devices, check that contact syncing is enabled on the mac (system preferences > iCloud). If these details are correct try turning contact syncing off, restarting the mac and turning syncing back on.

  • Needed help in syncing iCal on Mac and iPhone 2g

When I sync iCal on my Mac (Mountain Lion) with iCal on iPhone 2g, some events get "Alert 15 hours before" on iPhone, even though I didn't set this alert. Any ideas?

Check you are logged into the same account on all devices, check that contact syncing is enabled on the mac (system preferences > iCloud). If these details are correct try turning contact syncing off, restarting the mac and turning syncing back on.

  • Syncing iCal from Mac OS X 10.6.8 to iPhone 5S

I have a Macbook Pro and a iPhone 5S, I'm just attempting to figure out how to make it recognize that I have an iCloud Account but not a MobileMe account (which I know are the same thing) but I'm attempting to sync my calenders and it won't let me, I don't want to have to recreate all my calenders in the iCloud, please help!

Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.x) and earlier systems are not compatible with iCloud: Lion 10.7.5 is the minimum requirement, Mountain Lion recommended.
You cannot create an iCloud account on Snow Leopard or earlier. If you have opened an iCloud account on a Lion/Mountain Lion Mac or an iOS5/6 device this will be the situation on Snow Leopard:
You will be able to access email and calendars on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email. A pictorial instruction page on doing this is here (for Snow Leopard, or here for Tiger).
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. (See below for alternatives.)
Address Book won't sync: this page has a convoluted hack to make it sync which has been reported as working (and as not working by others). I've not tried it. (See below for an alternative.)
To make proper use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Sync ical using snow leopard

Is there a way to sync ical across three computers,an iphone and 2 ipads, all using my home wireless computer without having to do this manually.  The computers are all on snow leopard and the ipads (1 and 2) have the most current ios?
    Thanks.
    Nancy

Officially, Snow Leopard can't sync calendars with iCloud. You may be able to sync your calendars to iCloud by means of this unsupported hack - I've not tried it but some people have reported success with it. The iPads should give you no trouble if they are running iOS5. If you don't have an iCloud account already you will have to set one up using your iPad - you can't do this on Snow Leopard.

  • Syncing ical using "missing sync" to handheld PPC 6700

mac book   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Just to clarify the issue, it's not really Mountain Standard Time that is observed in the winter in Arizona and Pacific Daylight Time in the summer: it's actually Mountain Standard Time which is observed year around.
With the exception of the Navajo tribal lands which do make the switch to Mountain Daylight time—and the wholly contained Hopi tribal lands which do not make the switch but, in typical, historic anti-Navajo fashion stay with the remainder of the state—Arizona simply does not make a switch to Mountain Daylight Time, remaining instead on Mountain Standard Time the year around.
That's an important distinction in configuring time zone information on both your Macintosh and your Palm smartphone. Your Palm 700p should reflect a -7 hour offset from GMT and both a manual DST setting, and no check to enable DST. If you want to create an accurate setting for Scottsdale, by the way—instead of using the default Phoenix designation—you can enter the Location: value as 33°62'N 111°92'W in a newly created Scottsdale location, instead of the 33°26'N 112°4'W values given for Phoenix.
On your Macintosh, you should also select MST Phoenix as the value in the Time Zone tab of the Date & Time System Preference pane, and be sure that in iCal, the Turn on time zone support option in the Advanced pane of the Preferences… dialog is checked or enabled, and that the America/Phoenix value appears in the upper right corner of your iCal main page.
You may have to manually correct some records after making any changes to these values, but once you have done that and synchronized, your entries will appear correctly on both platforms.

  • Sync  iPhone using .Mac

My laptop is being repaired by Apple and there is no known date when it will be repaired. My desktop does not have USB 2.0. I would like to sync my iCal and Contacts with my iPhone. How do I do that if I use a Mac (Tiger OS) that is not mine to sync my iPhone? Is this possible? Thank you!

Thank you for your feedback. I kept getting an error message when I tried to sync using my G4 Tower that has USB 1. An Apple tech research the message and concluded that sync'ing will not work with that Mac.
However, I have had success using another Mac that has USB 2.0. Since I am administrator for my son's iMac, I used my admin account on his computer and set up the .Mac sync. It worked! Once .Mac downloaded everything it could into the iMac, I was able to connect the iPhone and sync my calendar, email accounts, Safari bookmarks, and contacts. As an added bonus, since I share my music with his computer (hoping good taste in music will rub off:-), I was also able to download some of my music stored on the G4 Tower into the iPhone. (The 2 Macs are connected via Airport.)
So, I'm a happy camper! Thanks again!

  • ICal on Mac and Facebook events

i've updated my Macbook OS to the latest 10.8.2 and the facebook events/birthdays doesn't seem to even appear in my iCal..
even at the account settings, the Facebook account didn't even ask for permission to access my iCal..
my iPhone and iPad are ok after updating to iOS 6...
anyone knows how to go about this?

    Hi Martin,
Are you using MobileMe? Are you syncing the events to the iPhone through iTunes or pushing them over the air with MobileMe?
If you are using MobileMe you can set the Time Zone online at http://www.me.com/calendar/ click the Gear> Preferences> Advanced.
Try turning off Time Zone Support on the iPhone, tap Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Time Zone Support, off.
Did that change the time on the events?
If you are not using MobileMe or that does not resolve the issue, try the tips below.
If the Time Zone Support is on in iCal, try disabling it. Go to iCal>Preferences> Advanced> uncheck Turn on time zone support. You can change Time Zones of events in iCal as described in the iCal help article: "Changing the time zone for an event"
If the issue persists try resetting the sync history as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23030 and then syncing the calendar events to the iPhone again.

  • Syncing ical to Entourage -- only first event syncs!

Hi. I set up Entourage to sync with iCal. This created an Entourage calendar in iCal, so far so good. I created a new event in iCal and put it in the Entourage calendar. Go over to Entourage and it has synced up nicely. Great so far.
Then I go back to iCal and change all my stuff over to the Entourage calendar. Go back to Entourage. Nothing. I go to the Calendar pull-down and select SyncNow. Nothing. The one event that synced ok before is still there, but nothing else. I go back to iCal and create new events and these wont sync.
    What happened?! Help!
    Thanks.

Can you give a bit more information about what you've done? When you say you have gone back to iCal and changed all your stuff to the Entourage calendar, do you mean that you changed individual events to the Entourage calendar in iCal. Does that mean this is the only calendar left in iCal?
If so, then my suggestion is:
    1) back up your iCal calendar - File, Back up iCal
    2) ensure the calendar name in iCal is "Entourage"
    3) go to Entourage preferences and untick "synchronise events & tasks with iCal"
    4) quit Entourage, open Entourage and tick "synchronise events & tasks with iCal" again
    5) you will be asked before it syncs how you wish the sync to occur and you should select to have iCal override Entourage.
If I'm right you should end up with a calendar in the Entourage application which reflects your Entourage calendar in iCal.

  • Syncing iCal on Mac and iPhone: how long does the sync take to show up???

When I make changes in iCal on the Mac, when are they supposed to appear on the iPhone? And vice versa. Same question regarding Contacts.
In Mail there is a "circular icon" which forces an update. Is there an equivalent one for iCal and for Contacts?
    Thanks in advance and cheers,
    Veit

Having paid with Apple Pay, vs. any other method of payment, there should be no difference at all with regard to getting your money back.  The "weird" Credit Card Number probably is the Unique Device ID from your iPhone, not actually a Credit Card Number.  That will have been linked to your actual Credit Card within the original Transaction so the refund will easily go back to your Account.

  • Sync Ical. Mac mini+Macbook pro

I am looking for a simple efficient way to constantly/automatically sync data from my mac mini to my macbook pro.
    Thanks.

Since all the heavy lifting has been completed with the
file transfers, I would consider doing all the syncing
via wireless network if you have one.   If not, you can
set up the Mini to create a wireless network and just
connect the MBPR to it (the reverse would work as
    well).
If for some reason you really want to do a wired connection,
then you would have to boot one or the other into target disk
mode and then connect them via TB or FW.
For file syncing, there are a variety of apps out there to
accomplish that.  You just need to set up file sharing
on both Macs and select the folders to share.
