Syncing iDevice on Linux

I'm using the latest version of Linux Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and would like to know if there is a way to synchronize an iDevice on this platform. iTunes will not install correctly, and the Apple Mobile Service will not run correctly under WINE. I've found tutorials on connecting and syncing using Rythmbox, but those tutorials were all written for Ubuntu 10, and no longer work with iOS 8.
Is there any way to synchronize an iDevice without using iTunes? I can't even access the files because my iPod touch "refuses to mount."

I just found something interesting: after unplugging, rebooting, and plugging my iPod touch back in, it asked me if I wanted to trust the computer. After hitting Trust, Linux was able to mount my iPod touch (it still thinks there's an iPhone that it's unable to mount).
By going to iPod touch > iTunes_Control > Music, I find a series of folders named F00 to F49. Some of these folders are empty, others have single or multiple music files. The file names have no relation to the music, but when I play it through VLC Media Player I'm able to see the song title, artist, etc.
If I can figure out how music is stored in these Fxx folders, maybe I can just copy/paste music onto my iPod touch.

  • Sync iDevices with new Mac?

I have upgraded to a new iMac. The old iMac is still in service, used by another family member. I used Setup Assistant to transfer my account, iTunes library, etc. to the new computer.
I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad1, both running iOS 5.0.1. Both were set to sync wirelessly to the old iMac.
Wi-Fi Sync on the devices looks for the original iMac.
Because the profile, backups, etc should be on both iMacs at this point, can I just plug the devices in to the new iMac and sync without any need to erase or reset the devices? I'd really like to avoid the whole setting up as a new device if I can avoid it.
Is there anything I need to do to switch the device's allegiance to the new iMac? anything I need to do on the old iMac to turn off the sync connection, either before or after syncing with the new iMac?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iDevices. Only if you back up manually before syncing, you can restore your devices from those backups again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Syncing idevices in Lion

Since installing Lion I've had problems getting my idevices sync screen to appear when clicking on the idevice. I get the 'spinning beachball" for 30 seconds or sometimes much longer. I've had to forcequit iTunes on a few occasions. Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

Not sure, it's working fine for me. Have you updated to iTunes 10.4.1 yet?

  • How to recover Sync Key from Linux (Ubuntu)?

I had dual-boot: Windows and Ubuntu. For some reason I had to reinstall Windows, and when I did so -- Ubuntu wouldn't boot. And this time, unlike previous times...Ubuntu partition went inaccessible and therefore I couldn't even boot into it. However, I'm able to use Disk Internal's Linux Reader to read my partition. I can access the Ubuntu filesystem. How can I recover Firefox Sync Key?
I understand it must be stored somewhere on the filesystem, but where? And how can I recover it?
(I know it must be a technical solution, please help.)

You should be able to access Ubuntu if you reinstall the GRUB boot loader that probably had been removed by Windows.
Do you have an installation DVD or CD for that Ubuntu installation?
There is usually a repair option or a way to boot Linux directly.
You can also use a live CD/DVD disk to access the Linux partition, but make sure that you use one that does support the file system.
The Firefox profile folder is usually in the hidden .mozilla directory in the user account in the home directory. Home may be mounted in another partition.

  • Wife upgraded to iTunes 10.1.2 and cannot sync iDevices, even on iPhoto.

    Hi there,
My wife just upgraded her Itunes to 10.1.2 on her white iMac running Snow Leopard to latest upgrades.
Then she tried to sync her iPhone and iPad and it stalls while syncing Calendar.
Not sure if its ut the iTunes issue since she also synced her iPhone through iPhoto to see if she can extract but cannot...it basically has the rainbow balloon cursor.
I plugged her phone into my MacbookPro and was able to backup her photos onto my iPhoto.
Are there ways to fix these syncing issues on my wife's computer? Please advise, many thanks!!

  • Cannot Update to 10.6.3 and sync idevices

    Hi there
recently I updated my iphone & ipad to iOS6, since then I cannot sync my devices because it ask me to update to iTunes 10.6.3 (currently I have 10.6.1 and my OS is 10.5.8) it tells me that I cannot install iTunes because first I need to update to a newer OS (I dont want to do that), even if I run MAC OS updates it tells me that no updates are available for my system.
Is there any way around to do this, this is ludacris, first time it happens to an apple device/release

I can't provide specific advice without knowing which computer you run but since it seems you are running what Apple now considers outdated software (and possibly hardware too) you need to be very careful before you do any more upgrades to software.  If you are running an older computer you may discover you have upgraded something that has a domino effect where the final thing cannot be upgraded and suddenly your system no longer works.  For example, don't buy an iPhone5 unless you are positive you can upgrade your system to Snow Leopard at least, otherwise you may find your also have to buy a new computer too.

  • AppleMobileDeviceHelper must be forced quit to sync iDevice with iTunes

I have 2010 MBP running Mavericks OS X 10.9.4.  When I try to connect my iPhone 5s running iOS 7.1.2), the iTunes freeze or hang.  I let it run for about 1 hour, and it still looping with color circle.  I tried to Reset Sync history using the steps listed http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481 with no luck.
I even tried to delete the AppleMobileDevice.kext file and iTunes can run smoothly but it can't detect my iPhone while iPhoto can detect my iPhone and export picture without any problem, then I uninstall and reinstall iTunes hoping the AppleMobileDevice.kext is the source of the problem and fixed by reinstalling the iTunes.  But without luck.  At this moment, I have to force quit AppleMobileDeviceHelper service from Activity Monitor a couple times before it actually sync between iPhone and iTunes.
    Please advice.

  • Recommend me a linux friendly syncing Palm

Currently an unhappy PPC Ipaq owner, I'm interested in adding a Palm to my Christmas list. Anyone have some suggestions for something around under $300 that syncs well with linux? Mainly seeking some practical advice, not just what the guy at Circuit City tells me. I need a lot of storage for the calendar, contacts, and for reading news articles. I play some games but thats mainly a liuxury I can live without. Also, it needs to be metal or very durable plastic.
Thanks in advance for any insight
PS. I only need to sync with linux, not run linux on the Palm.

  • This iPhone/iPod is synced with another computer. Erase and sync with computers library?

    Hello Apple Users,
I've hated this problem ever since my mom got an iPod and then the rest of my family started getting Apple products. As of now, I have an iPhone 5C (7.0.4 going to 7.0.6 soon, Green), my Mom: iPhone 5C (7.0.4 soon 7.0.6), my Dad: iPhone 5C (7.0.4 soon 7.0.6). I've had an iPod for about 3 years now and still using it to multitask. I was connected to my parents' Apple ID until I created my own.
Once I created my own, got my own computer and the stuff like that, I decided to sync my iPhone 5C. Yet, when I try I get this:
This only happens with the following when trying to sync:
    •Tones (Any Tone)
    •Music (Any Selection)
    •Movies (Any Selection)
    •TV Shows (Any Selection)
I really need to fix this. It's ridiculous. What should happen is:
Once synced, it creates a folder (Preferably either in Program Files/Program Files (x86), or AppData somewhere) named "Synced iDevices". Click it, it'll have your iDevices Model Number or something, or your iDevice (iPod #G/iPhone #G etc.). And It's basically a "Library" as iTunes calls it. If you delete it, then it's considered "un-synced" and you can re-sync again if you want. This could also be a feature in iTunes.
Feedback is always appreciated! Thanks for reading!
    Regards, OptimalVorteX
P.S.: I won't be on the Forums after this because im going to a hockey game! I'll try to get on my phone if it isn't dead though!

Yeah dude screw apple. I hate apple. All apple wants to do is control the world.
    Im stuck in a loop:
    1. I Click "Back Up Now"
    2. It says, "Authorize or else, 12 apps and their data will be deleted from this iPhone".
    3. I click "Authorize" (keep in mind, It's already authorized)
    4. Then, it makes me authorize my parents Apple ID/Computer (which is also authorized).
    5. I type in the password and click "Authorize".
    6. It says, "5/5 computers are already Authorized with this Apple ID".
Well lets see: We have 3 computers, my brother, my parents, and my own. My brother doesn't even have an Apple ID, iTunes, or any iDevice. So, we're down to 2 computers. My parents have their own Apple ID. I have my own Apple ID. Now remember it made my authorize my parents Apple ID/Computer? Well why? And if the iDevices count, that's 2 iDevices, and a Computer (my parents). That's 3. My Computer = 4 (BUT ITS AUTHORIZED WITH MY DANG APPLE ID). So really, it's actually 3.
Sorry for the horrible description, guys. If you want it more simple, then I can do that. In the meantime, thanks for helping me out, and I'll be writing Apple a 3 star review.
    Regards, Vortex.

  • Had problem with laptop so reinstalled it now itunes will not sync on both laptops, it did before.

Had problem with laptop so reinstalled it now itunes will not sync on both laptops, it did before to my iphone5 says cannot sync to 2 libraries until I reinstalled it did.

iDevices can only be synched with one library.  However, you can sync successfully with more than one computer if each has a copy of the same logical library - the identifier that iTunes uses to determine which library is synced an iDevice is recorded within the iTunes database (the iTunes Library.itl file).  The best approach is to replicate your complete library (database, media, artwork, associated files) from one PC to the other.  When you reinstalled iTunes on your laptop it will, by default, have created a new library with a distinct id from that of your other machine.  Even if you copied all your media from one to the other, iTunes will still see the libraries as distinct with respect to syncing iDevices.
If you have configured iTunes to organize your media and to copy files to the iTunes Media folder, then the complete library will be contained within (by default) C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes, with a structure of subfolders and key files like this:
If this is the case, you can (with iTunes not running on either machine):
Copy this iTunes folder from laptop 2 to laptop 1 (the one that's had iTunes reinstalled) - depending on the size of your library you can do this over a network, using a thumb drive, or an external (USB) hard driveNote this this assumes no media on laptop 1 that's not also on laptop 2 - if this isn't the case, there's a slightly different process to follow to ensure that this media is preserved and can be added to the "common" library
Once the copy is complete, make sure that iTunes is using the correct library database by holding down SHIFT as you start iTunes.  When you see this prompt:
select Choose Library..., navigate to the iTunes folder you just copied, select the iTunes Library.itl file you'll find there, and click Open.
For future reference, you can use turingtest2's user tip on Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a suitable method to backup your library to an external drive - you can then, with care, use this to keep the copies of your common library in sync across your laptops.

  • I bought an audio book on iTunes on my iPad 2. It won't sync to my iPhone...how do I do it?

Audio books I buy on iTunes on my iPad 2 won't sync to my iPhone. How do I do this?

What do you mean by sync to the phone? You cannot sync iDevices with one another at all.
If you mean that you cannot download the book on the phone after downloading it on the iPad - that is because audiobooks are not part of the free redownloads of iTunes in the cloud - or at least that is my understanding.
Take a look at this discussion
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4475398?start=0&tstart=0
Then look at this support article about iTunes in the cloud availability and it doesn't even show audiobooks.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085
If you transfer the book to iTunes and then sync it to the phone, that may work.

  • Can I sync my ipod touch to my new iPad?

Is it possible to sync games from my current ipod touch to my new iPad. There are some games that I would like to move to the new ipad.

You can't sync iDevices directly by connecting them with a cable.
You can transfer your app and game purchases into iTunes on your computer, backup the Touch and then restore the iPad from the Touch backup and sync with iTunes in order to transfer the games and the game data onto the new iPad.
You should probably check out these in articles.
