Syncing ipad to itunes makes it crash

iPad not recognised on iTunes (new laptop) despite using all the same passwords, and crashes iTunes on computer if I try to use USB.  Message comes up saying this iPhone no longer recognised and iTunes freezes.   I've reset the ipad 3 times and reloaded it from iCloud, but don't know how to sync with my library now.  Out of ideas!  Do I go to the Apple Store?

If iTunes is crashing, perhaps a fresh install of iTunes might help.

  • Lost my apps when sync iPad with iTunes

when sync iPad with iTunes, apps purchased in iPad by another account were lost, and the apps can't be seen when check for available downloads. How to get back the purchased apps? thanks.

If you lost all your apps on both the iPad and the computer, you can download the apps again at no cost. You can search your emails for app store purchases if you can't remember all the apps that you have downloaded.

  • I've synced iPad with iTunes, but it keeps telling me that there are purchases on my iPad that need to be transferred?

I've synced iPad with iTunes, but it keeps telling me that there are purchases on my iPad that need to be transferred before I can run the iOS update or I will lose them.  What should I do?  How do I figure out what purchases have not been transferred?   I went into iTunes on my Mac and ran "Check for available downloads" and I still get same message.

The 'cehck for available downloads' checks if there is anything in the store that you haven't yet downloaded, it won't copy anything from the iPad. Have you tried doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases ?

  • Problems syncing Ipad to itunes

When I plug my Ipad into my computer to sync it to itunes, itunes tells me to first type in my ipad password on my ipad, the problem is that the window to put in a password will not show up on my ipad screen, and all that shows up is the syncing screen. I have tried to reset both the ipad and the computer numerous times but it won't work. What should I do to fix this problem?

    Hi and welcome....
Try this... tap Settings in your Home screen then tap General / Passcode Lock. Tap Passcode Lock then tap Never.
And in Settings / General / Restrictions. Make sure that's turned off.
Now restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
    Now try syncing with iTunes.
Please take a moment and click *My Settings* on the right side of this window and tell us what model computer you are using and which operating system. That way you will have a forum profile setup for now and in the future. Thanks! Some of the troubleshooting advice we suggest depends on whether you are Mac or Windows.

  • Device timeout while syncing ipad to itunes

With a USB connection from my iPad3 to my desktop (running the latest version of iTunes), I started a syncing process that went successfully thru 6 of 7 steps. The 7th step seemed to be taking a long while (maybe 20 minutes) and finally timed out with the follow message on a pop-up window on the desktop "Attempted to copy the disk 'OS failed''. The device timed out.". After closing the message window the iTunes desktop app went into a mode of 'Canceling Sync'. It's been in that mode for over 30 minutes now.
    My questions:
    1. What would cause the time out message in step 7 of 7? (The physical device connection was not the problem)
    2. Will I do any damage/corruption to my iPad if I kill the iTunes program while it is in the "Canceling Sync" mode. I may be wrong but it looks like it will never end.
Thanks for any help! Bill OC

App date is stored in the backup that iTunes makes at the beginning of each sync. The apps themselves are stored in the library and not update with each sync. See the following:

  • Drawbacks of never syncing iPad to iTunes?

What are the drawbacks of never syncing an iPad with iTunes?

I don't know why it would take 6 hours to back up your iPad - unless you have the 64GB device and you have it loaded to the gills with content already. It should not take that long.
You can backup your iPad to your computer and transfer all purchases into iTunes and you should not have to restore the device to factory settings. When you connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes, right click on the iPad name on the left sidebar and select Transfer Purchases. That will put all of the apps and purchased content into Tunes on your Mac. Let that process complete and then right click on the device name again and select Backup this time. Let that process complete.
Now go into all of the different tabs of iTunes, Info, Apps, Music, Photos, etc, etc, and make sure that you have selected all of the content that you want to sync with the iPad. Put checkmarks in all of the headings as well - Sync Apps, Sync Music, etc.... Then click on Sync in the lower right corner.
If something goes wrong - or if you forget an app or a playlist or album - or anything at all - just go back into the corresponding tab in iTunes, select the item to sync - and click on Apply in the lower right corner.
After you do all of this - you can set up Wi-Fi syncing and it should go without issue. You can backup to iCloud or to iTunes as you see fit. Personally, I am not relying solely on iCloud yet. I do backup to iCloud, but I still back up to iTunes on my Mac as well - and I use Time Machine to backup all of that up.

  • Syncing iPad to iTunes music library won't work

Hi there.  I am trying to sync one of our two iPads to iTunes - it works fine for photos but, when trying to sync the music library, although the blue audio bar shows that the songs are on the iPad, they don't appear in the Music app on the iPad - any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Syncing iPad with iTunes removes PDFs from iPad

Hi, this is only a small annoyance, but I'm hoping someone has a clever way to save me a few steps that I have to do every time I sync my iPad.
As a student, I use my iPad to download PDFs quite a lot, and I move them into "collections" to keep them sorted under the relevant subject. This all works fine until I sync my iPad. Then, because I have chosen to sync "selected books" instead of "all books" (there are way too many PDFs on my hard drive) all my new PDFs disappear from the iBooks app on the iPad, and they can't be located by name when using the "Search iPad" function either.
My workaround is fairly simple, I go to the "Books" tab for the iPad within iTunes, sort the books by date instead of title, and check all of the new PDFs that I still want to keep on the device. Then I sync again, and presto! They are back. Still, it seems a little silly that if I actually download the PDF on the device, there isn't an easier way to make these PDFs behave the same way that, after all, purchased music does on the iPad - it assumes by default that you will keep those songs synced, and you have to take steps to remove them.
Any thoughts? Is there some way to make a "smart playlist" of books & PDFs that are newly added, so that my old hordes of PDFs are kept off the iPad, while new ones are by default present, thus avoiding the risk that I forget to re-add them after syncing and find that they have disappeared?
    Thanks o wise ones!

  • Error message when syncing Ipad in itunes: unable to load data class

    Hi there:
I t tried posting this question on the ipad community but no luck.
What happened last night I was trying to sync/backup my ipad 2 running ios 5.0.1 with itunes 10.5 (?) for over an hour.  It stuck on step 2 of syncing ipad and it's been on that for a while.  when I get to step two, after it asks me if I want to sync my purchased on my ipad to itunes, I click ok.  then i keep getting the follow error message: itunes was unable to load data class information from Sync services.  reconnect or try again later.
    I keep trying and this message keeps popping up on step two;
then in itunes when I click on my ipad under devices, itunes will freeze.
I can't figure out what happened.  when I previously synced I had no problem and it was quick.
I even tried to download itunes again and "repair" it but still same problem.
    Please help.
    thanks

  • More questions on syncing iPad to iTunes

I have been through the recent responses to the question about how to sync; I'm not computer literate and I got hung up on the first step: how do you connect the iPad to iTunes to start the process? If I can understand this, I will try to follow the steps suggested and use the "transfer" feature and hope for the best. Also, If there is a site where the syncing procedure is discussed step by step, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks, jwizardp

Apple doesn't support WiFi syncing at this time - why? Send Steve an email and perhaps he'll tell you. (Unless he's too busy answering stupid questions about the iPhone 4 antenna.) Seriously? None of us knows why but I'd guess that among other things, Apple hasn't gotten WiFi syncing perfected to the point where it is a) easy for even noobs, b) reliable, c) secure, and d) doesn't corrupt the iPad if syncing fails
Seriously - look at all the questions and problems people have with syncing. Then look at all the questions and problems people have with WiFi. Combine, shake and "oh no"!

  • TS3694 Error (-4) syncing iPad to iTunes

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Is there a solution to this problem yet? I have updated iOS and iTunes and still i get this error (-4) when I try to sync/backup. And it stays stuck, apparently trying to sync. Very frustrating, especially as Apple have known about this problem for a while now

Eject the iPad from iTunes and the Mac, reboot the Mac again and try resetting the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad start up and then try again.

  • Problems syncing ipad to iTunes on PC?

I have recently purchased an iPad mini, but don't seem to be able to connect it to iTunes on my PC?  My PC is running windows XP and the iPad iOS 7.0.4.  When I connect the iPad to the PC the iPad asks if I trust the computer, which I click on the ,Trust, button, but it then doesn't seem to do anything else!  Can anyone please offer an answer?

I believe you need Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows 8 and iTunes version 11.x

  • Syncing ipad to iTunes error message

I have a new MAC and an older iPad.  I initially synced it, but, now it will no longer let me do that.  I open the iTunes, can see that the iPad is connected, hit the sync button and then wait.  It goes through steps 1 and 2 and then flashes to the step 5 of 5 and I get the following error message:
could not back up the iPad because it is not connected.
Turned off MAC, turned off iPad and still not able to do it getting the same error messages.  Any ideas?  Thanks

Eject the iPad from iTunes and the Mac, reboot the Mac again and try resetting the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad start up and then try again.

  • Unable to sync ipad to itunes on desktop due to being unable to download version 11.1

My iPad2 is updated with iOS 7.0.4. Whether I manually connect the iPad to the desktop or try it wirelessly, I get a message stating that I must have iTunes 11.1 or higher to update.  When I click check for updates, iTunes says I am not connected to the internet, but clearly I am or I would not be able to send this message. I went to apple.com downloaded 11.1....it said thank you for downloading. I restarted computer. However, I'm still getting the same message from iTunes and can't sync iPad. Help please.
