Syncing iphone 3 contacts to iphone 4

how do i sync my old iphone 3 contacts to my new 4 ?

When you hooked your new iPhone up to your computer you should have been given the option to restore your information or set up the iPhone as new. If you chose to restore your information your contacts should be there.

Deleted duplicate contacts from icloud and want to sync updated contacts to iphone and ipad?  Did it on icloud cause have duplicates on ipad and iphone also

Check icloud.com to be sure you contact list is correct there.  If it is, just go to Settings>iCloud on your device and turn Contacts to On to sync the contacts to your device.  If contacts are already set to On and you still see duplicates, you may be viewing a duplicate contact group in addition to the iCloud contacts.  Open Contacts, tap Groups, then tap any groups other than iCloud to uncheck them, then tap Done.  See if the duplicates are still there.

  • Syncing Question: Is it safe to sync email contacts on iPhone?

    Hi guys,
I have just bought an iPhone which I intend to use for both work and personal stuff. I am wondering when I sync my mail accounts with iPhone, will I be actually exposing my personal email, phone number or any type of personal info to my work email contacts?
I have synced Facebook contacts to iPhone and saw that some friends have whole lots of contact info exposed. That is why before I synced my work email contacts, can anyone explain if our personal things on our iPhone will be exposed to the synced email contacts we have on the same iPhone?
For example: Can work email contacts (Gmail or Yahoo) see my personal Facebook profile photo since it is saved in my own contact list?
Can work email contacts see my phone number when I reply from the iPhone?
Basically any answers related to syncing safety will be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thanks, modular747. Sure, but isn't there only one "sync" button that will then sync everything, and isn't iTunes the only place to control what is synced?
I suppose one way to fix this would be to sync my calendars and contacts using iCloud. This would also mean that my iPad was kept in sync more regularly. But I use Google Calendar as a Calendar app and sync this to iCal via BusySync, and am yet to find a way that I can get this (and my Google contacts, which sync with my Address Book) to play nicely.
If there's some way I can use iCloud to sync my calendars and contacts between Mac, iPhone and iPad, while maintain the synchronisation I've currently got running between iCal, Address Book and Google, I'd love to hear it

I am trying to sync from contacts from iPhone 4S to my mac.  I thought it would all work with iCloud, but it doesn't.   Can someone help me please?  thanks

Using iTunes, back up your iPhone 3G by rightclicking the name of your iPhone that appears in the "devices" tab on iTunes when you have plugges it into the computer. Once the back up has been completed, plug in your iPhone 4S and select "restore from backup". All of your files on your iPhone 3G should be successfully transfered to your iPhone 4S.

  • Can't sync my contact from iPhone to iPad Air

Can't sync my contact from iPhone to iPad Air.
If I add a new contact in iPad Air it appears on iPhone. If I delete this new contact on iPhone it is also deleted on iPad. But the whole contacts of iPhone cannot be imported in iPad.
Please help me! Who has any idea?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Please try the following…
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • Trying to sync Outlook contacts to iPhone (mostly business contacts).  Too few fields.  How do I add new ones or is there a good app?

I was a Palm user.  My Palm made portable all contact info, calendar, tasks and notes in very helpful way.  But after I lost my calendar on PalmDesktop twice in one month, decided I needed a different solutio and bought iPhone 4.
Arduous process of transferring different categories/subgroups of contacts to Outlook (yes, I have a PC) and finding that some data just does not map right.  Then tried to sync with iPhone only to find that most of data can't be mapped to the meager number of fields it looks like are available on the iPhone.  Is there a way to add fields?  A good app for this?
Also, need an app for tasks and calendar (no weekly view).
Gee, just about everything a business person would want!

Yes, from Outlook it will only sync Calender, Contacts from you mail accounts. No subfolders and no Task Manager. Maybe there will be changes in the iOS 5.
In the App Store you can search for "task manager". There are some options, but study them carefully before you buy any.

  • ICloud only sync selective contacts from iPhone

This problem has been driving me crazy for the past 2 weeks.
Allow me to give you the full story so that you can help me.
Since iCloud became online I had no issues syncing outlook on Windows XP , iPhone and iPad contacts , calendars and notes. However, for the past 2 months i noticed that outlook is not syncing properly as the new contacts created on the iPad and the iPhone were not being transferred but I didn't bother as the iCloud / iPhone and iPad always had all the updated contacts.
My problems started when I got a new windows 7 laptop, I exported the outlook contacts from the windows XP machine to the outlook in the windows 7 machine and installed iCloud control panel in the new laptop and had outlook sync with iCloud through the iCloud control panel hoping that I will end up with contacts in outlook matching those in iCloud.
HOWEVER , what happened is that my contacts on iCloud got messed up and ended up messing my contacts on the iPhone and iPad within few minutes. So I went to iCloud.com , deleted everything .... disabled iCloud on the iPhone, used the latest iPhone backup (which had good contacts) and then enabled syncing with iCloud hoping that the contact list will go from the iPhone to iCloud.................. what happened is that out of 1779 contacts only 210 got to iCloud while the rest remain in the iPhone only.
I tried several times to delete the contacts from iCloud, reset the iPhone and establish the iClound link again but to no avail the same number of contacts only goes to iCloud. I also got an app (contacts kit) and saved my iPhone contacts as vCard and went to iCloud.com to import the vCard file it but i got an error relating to exceeding some limit (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4489?viewlocale=en_US) so this is not going to work for me either.
This is really frustrating   as it used to be fine but now for some reason it's not working ................ any ideas or help on how to transfer the full contacts from the iPhone to iCloud will be much appreciated.
    Thank you all

Make sure you created a combo vCard backup of your master contact list in a compatible format (not all vCards are compatible).  If you're not sure, use the app My Contacts Backup to create one.
Then go to iCloud.com from your computer, open your contacts, click All Contacts, select any single contacts and press Control-A to select them all (they should all be highlighted), then press your Delete key to delete them.  Confirm that the contacts are all deleted.  On your phone, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and make sure you have selected iCloud as your default.  (If you don't have multiple accounts syncing contacts on your phone you won't see this setting and can skip this step.)  Then open the email and tap the vCard attachment to import your master contact list back to your phone, and to iCloud and your other devices.

  • Can't sync my contacts with iPhone 3G since started using iCloud

    Hey guys
I have an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3G. before iCloud, I used to sync both of them with my mac and everything would work like a charm. but since iCloud's running and I'm backing up my iPhone to my iCloud account, everything's ok between my iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1 and Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2.
The problem is when I want to sync contacts between iPhone 3G iOS 4.2.1 and Mac. My iPhone 4 shows that the contacts are in a group names 'All iCloud' and it seems like I can sync only contacts from the group named 'All from my Mac' to my iPhone 3G. Eventhough I have all my contacts in my Address Book already. And it seems I would be able to sync my contacts if I can get them on my Mac, but how?
    Any Ideas?

    iKaveh wrote:
Think all we need to do is to move contacts from 'All iCloud' to 'All from Mac' somehow.
    But how?!
This is not something I've been able to test, but I believe this process will do it:
Select all your contacts in the 'iCloud' list in Address Book.
From the File menu choose 'Export>vCard' and save the vCard on your Desktop or somewhere convenient.
Set 'On My Mac' to be the default account in Preferences.
From the File menu choose 'Import' and select your vCard.
Import into Address book, making sure the contacts go into 'On My Mac'.
You will now have duplicate contacts, and can delete the ones under 'iCloud'.\
As you will have gathered, you have three choices:
Keep your contacts under 'On My Mac' and sync them via USB.
Keep your contacts under 'iCloud' and sync them to iCloud.
Keep a full set under each category and sync to both. Of course any additions or changes will have to be made twice.

  • Sync of contacts to iPhone stopped working

Changes to my Mac contacts are not getting sync'ed to my iPhone. I have selected sync of contacts but when I make an edit on the Mac the change does not get updated on the iPhone. The only way I can get it to work is to go into the info/advanced option in iTunes and select "Replace information on this iPhone". Can anyone help me here please.

    How are you syncing twitter?
Launching an application is the same thing as starting/opening an application, which is done by double clicking on the application that you want to launch/start/open.
The iSync application is located in your Applications folder, along with all other applications that are available on your computer.
Go to your Applications folder and locate the iSync application. Double click on the iSync application to launch/start/open the application.
Go to iSync preferences and select reset sync history. Follow this by restarting your Mac and test if this resolves the problem when syncing contact info and calendar events.
Since you don't know where to go to launch an application or what launching an application means, do you have sync contacts with the Address Book, and calendars with iCal selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?

  • ICloud won't sync all contacts from iPhone to iCloud

    Hi,
So I have 1090 contacts on my iPhone 4S. I have iCloud set up and when I go to iCloud.com or when I sync my MacBook Air (Lion) with iCloud only 590 contacts are merging. I have turned iCloud on and off on my iPhone to see if this would trigger a new sync but the same amount of contacts seem to merge. Does anyone have any idea how I can get all my contacts from my iPhone to merge to iCloud?
    Thanks so much community!!!
    Cheers,
    Colin

I know this is an old thread, but since I had the same issue and finally solved it, I'll post this for future reference.
I had over 300 contacts on my iPhone 4 but only about 60 were showing up in iCloud. Saw lots of discussion, tried a few things, but here is the fix that worked for me.
    1. Got to Settings
    2. Go to iCloud
    3. Slide Contacts option to Off (You'll get a warning, make sure you choose to save the Contacts on your phone)
    4. Close out of Settings
    4. Wait 5 minutes or so
    5. Go back to Settings\iCloud
    6. Slide Contacts option to On (You'll get a message asking to merge Contacts, say yes)
    7. Go to Settings\iCloud\Storage & Backup
    8. Select Back Up Now
That should do it. All of my iPhone Contacts are now in iCloud

  • Syncing Exchange Contacts from iPhone to outlook 2003

I just recently left a company where I had Exchange set up on my iPhone for company emails, contacts, calendar, etc. I saved quite a few contacts that I pulled from Exchange to my iPhone. I just recently left the company and want to delete the email folder from my phone. The problem is, I don't want to lose the contacts. I just "turned off" wireless sync of my calendar and it deleted my entire calendar. How can I sync these contacts back to my personal PC? I have it set up to sync contacts in iTunes but they won't sync. Any help would be appreciated.

Not possible. Contacts synced over the air with an Exchange account or with a MobileMe account are kept synchronized with the server only. You can't sync contacts direct with a supported application on your computer via the iTunes sync process that were downloaded from the Exchange server and kept synchronized over the air with the Exchange server. It is possible to sync contacts over the air with an Exchange account or with a MobileMe account and sync contacts direct with a supported application on your computer via the iTunes sync process, but these contact data stored are kept separate.

  • How do I automatically sync outlook contacts to iphone contacts? My email and calendar does this but even though in settings I have the contacts ON it does not.

How do I get my outlook contacts to automatically sync to my iphone 5? In settings I have it set up to do so BUT it does not. My email and calendar updates every 1/2 hour but I can't get my contacts to auto update. Please advise.

Start with your finger at the bottom of the screen (about even with the home button) and swipe in an upward motion.  There should be a row of icons at the top of a grey field.  if the quarter-moon icon is bright white, tap it.  If it was (and still is) dark, take the iPhone in to be evaluated by a qualified technician.

Simple and EASY way to sync contacts from 3gs iPhone to MacBook Pro. Partner and I both use macBook. I have tried and get a message that only 350 of 3,500 item have syncd- all photos. I'm still learning and am very afraid of doing something that will wipe out all info, contacts and photos. Entering this site, the account shows my partners name, but accepts my other information.

First of all, you should always save you photos on computer like any other digital camera.
Backup on iCloud or iTunes only backup your Camera Roll. The other photos should be already on the computer.
Note: Photos are not saved in iTunes, it's only a conduit between your iPhone and your photo managing software on computer.
    What computer do you have?
