Syncing iphone 5 on an old macbook

Hi All
I recently upgraded to an iphone 5. Unfortunately the backup for my old iphone 3 is on my old macbook (circa late 2007/early 2008) running on Leopard 10.5.8 which doesn't support itunes 10.7 (necessary for syncing the iphone 5). What is the solution for syncing my new phone without getting a new macbook?
As far as i'm aware my macbook doesn't have the necessary requirements for Mountain Lion but even if it did I can't purchase it as you can only buy it through the Appstore (which isn't on Leopard). If I bought a copy of Snow Leopard would this solve my problems? If so where can I get Snow Leopard? It doesn't appear to be on sale at a normal price anywhere.
Alternatively my housemate has a newer Macbook. Could I transfer my iphone backup to his itunes and sync it on his computer as a short term solution?
Thanks
Sam

if your computer support snow leopard then yes it would solve the problems

  • Syncing iPhone 4 to a new MacBook Pro

I just got a new MacBook Pro. My old MB all of a sudden stopped syncing to my phone months ago and now none of my contacts, apps, or anything in my iCal are even on my old MB anymore. (Long story short, my hard drive crashed last year so I put another hard drive in. Everything was syncing fine until a few months ago when it started saying my iPhone was synced with another computer.)
Is there a way to transfer all of my contacts/apps/calendars/etc onto my new Computer?
Oh, and I'm not transferring anything to my new computer from my old one so I'm starting new with this one..

If you use the Migration Assistant, all your files will be transferred to the proper place on the new Mac.

How can I add my iphone calendar data to iCal on my new macbook? I feel like if I do it through iTunes, it will wipe my iphone calendar and I'll be left with nothing.

You need to do it through iTunes. Copy the iTunes folder from your Music folder of the old Mac to your new Mac. There is an entire forum area devoted to the iPhone here:

  • Moving from old iPhone and 10.4 OS Macbook to new iPhone 4G and 10.5 iMac

I have an original iPhone and have it synced to a 5 year old MacBook which is on 10.4.11. Not Snow Leopard. Now I have a new iPhone and have discovered that it requires at least a 10.5.
My proposal is to change computers to sync with so move old phone to the iMac. Then, sync iPhone 4 to that computer.
I'm trying to move all apps.
I have iTunes library in an external hard drive but have not been successful in using this to access all music in both computers. (MacBook has most purchased music on it, copied to external hard drive, attached to iMac and Media Library now pulls from External Hard Drive with limited success).
Before I do this, I just want to find out if this is the best route.
    Thanks!

    1. DO NOT use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant; and
There were some occasional problems transferring from PPC Macs to Intel Macs, if the new one was running Leopard or the first couple of releases of Snow Leopard. By all accounts, those were fixed long ago.
But there's always the possibility of a problem; you should be doing regular backups of your Mac anyway, but if you haven't, this is the time to start, "just in case." You can't use Time Machine on Tiger, but you will be able to on your new Mac. In the meantime, CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper can make "bootable clones" of your Mac. CCC is donationware; SD has a free version, but you need the paid one (about $30) to do updates instead of full replacements, or scheduling. Either is easily found via Google.
    2. Go ahead use them, they've worked for me
Setup Assistant is by far the easiest, simplest, most reliable way. See [Setting up a new Mac from an old one or its backups|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Setup.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
. . . or if I choose the Setup/Migrate Assistants method - - won't any issues that my current Mac might have on it (if any) going to get transferred to the new iMac either way?
Depends on what the issues are. If they're OS-related, no, since you'll have a whole new OS. If you have broken or partially-deleted apps, yes, some of that sort of problem might be transferred. Fix such problems first, if at all possible; otherwise you'll have to fix them later.

  • Sync iphone 4s with new macbook pro help needed

I have a new iPhone 4s and a new MacBook Pro.
I have synced the iPhone 4s with my old MacBook.
It won't now sync all of that data with my new MacBook Pro.
I do not want to transfer all data from my old computer to my new computer.
How can I move just iPhone 4s data?
I have tried iExplorer to try and get the data directly from the phone,
but I am not tech savvy to put the info. in the right folders of itunes, etc.
Any step by step help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

I can't deauthorise my daughter's last computer from iTunes because it has crashed. We have three computers in the house but I can't authorise my new MacbookPro for iTunes or homesharing because it says I have 5 computers authorised (I don't). I can't even get my music from the iTunes library on my old Macbook onto my new one, because it won't let me sync my iPhone 5 with my old Macbook, as I can't update the iTunes software. So I have a new MacbookPro and a new iPhone 5 and I can't get any of my music on either of them. I feel singularly depressed.

As you have more than 1 computer authorised then you should be able to log into your account on your computer's iTunes (Store > View My Account) and 'deauthorise all' (which you can do once every 12 months) and you can then authorise/reauthorise the computers that you still have and need : authorising and deauthorising.

  • HT1212 IOS7 password problems on iPhone & OS update problems on MacBook -- HELP!

I've updated IOS7 on my iPhone & I've been asked for my password, which I don't know (I actually don't think I set one).
I tried to sync iPhone with iTunes on my MacBook Pro, however the phone won't work without itunes 11.1 (which I seem to not have). I need to install OS 10.6 version or later on my MacBook Pro, however when I have tried to do so, I keep on being told I need a previous version. I tried 10.6.1 which doesn't work and can't seem to find 10.6.
I have no idea what I'm meant to do to get 1) my iPhone working and 2) update iTunes so it can eventually sync.
Someone help?! I'd be forever grateful!
    Thanks

Your Passcode problem is a different issue, but until you update your computer, & iTunes you will not be able to fix that.
An Apple store will restore your phone, or you can use another computer. Follow the directions here:
Force the phone into recovery mode, as described here, and restore it:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
    This will remove the passcode.

  • How to transfer contacts from MacBook Pro Retina to old MacBook Pro running 10.5.8?

How do I transfer my latest updated contacts from my MacBook Pro Retina running 10.9.1 which uses the cloud to my old Macbook Pro running 10.5.8 which is not in the cloud?

Thank you very much, Linc, for your suggestion.  I should have mentioned one other thing.  The reason I want to do this is that I use an old phone and, after I upgraded to Mavericks, Missing Sync no longer worked with my MacBook Pro Retina - so my address book in my phone is getting out of date.  Because my phone is old (it's a Palm Centro), they apparently will not likely update their software for this phone.  So I was thinking I could sync my phone with my old MacBook Pro running 10.5.8 if I could regularly get that old address book to mirror contacts in my new MacBook Pro.  You said I could open the contacts in the old MacBook by double-clicking the vCard file. But will that action put them into the old address book on the old Mac so that I could then sync the phone to it? I really need to overwrite the address book in the old Mac with the info that I am bringing over from the new MacBook.
I'd be grateful if you could tell me whether what I want to do is doable.  This old phone works perfectly well and I don't need a new phone with a data plan that I would pay for but never use.
    Thanks!
Note - I accidentally indicated that my response solved my question.  I clicked the wrong box.  Linc is the one who solved the problem.

  • How do i transfer my music from old macbook to ipad

Im having trouble transferring my my music on my old macbook to my new ipad2. And not purchased music or copied cd's, music i've created on my own?

    Okay, a few questions:
Are you currently syncing your iPad with this "old macbook" or a newer one?
Is this music you've composed in a certain application? Which one?
What do you want to do with once it's on the iPad? Just listen to it?

  • HT201407 new iphone 5 and 4 year old macbook, and for some reason my computer says a later version of itunes is required to use iphone to sync.  updated most recent version possible and still can not sync to iphone.

new iphone 5 and 4 year old macbook, and for some reason my computer says a later version of iTunes is required.  So, i went to ITunes and found i have the latest version availble at this time.  iTunes say phone can not be synced because it requires a version of 10.7 or greater?

iPhone 5 requires OS X 10.6.8 & iTunes 10.7 or greater. I suspect you're running Leopard, 10.5.8, correct? If so, you will first have to update your OS, then iTunes in order to sync your phone.

  • Is it possible to replace my old macbook with an ipad2? I need to be able to sync it with my new iphone and reset it if necessary.

Is it possible to replace my old macbook with an ipad2? I need to be able to sync and reset the my new iphone with the ipad2 . Is this possible? The operating system of my old macbook is Mac OS X 10.4.11, which is incompatible with my iphone.

An iPad is just a very big iPhone without the ability to voice call people. Just like the iPhone you need to connect it to a computer with iTunes to activate it, sync it, and everything else.
There is no way to directly plug an iPhone into a iPad so you cannot sync to it.
The iPhone requires iTunes to sync with. The iTunes application on the iPad is actually just the iTunes Store and does not contain any drivers to allow another iDevice to connect to it.

My old macbook is destroyed. I need to sync my iphone with my new macbook, but it doesn't seem like that's going to be easy considering I would need to be able to access my old macbook. Is anyone sure of how to do this without losing all my music, pictures, apps, etc?

    Should not matter.
Why post here when there is MacBook and iPhone as well as iTunes forums and support.

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.
