Syncing iPhone Apps through MobileMe via WiFi?

This may sound crazy but my iPhone appears to have synced apps through WiFi somehow yesterday.
I have not had my phone plugged into my computer for more than a week. Every night I plug it into the wall adapter to charge. Yesterday morning I did not use the phone for anything except to turn off alarms and check Twitter for a few minutes. In the afternoon I tried to use the phone only to see the battery was dead. (Weird in itself considering how little use it had that day).
I plugged the phone into the wall and came back that evening and started making some calls. Later that evening I noticed that there were no open App slots anymore. (Weird again because there had been open slots the day before.) Looking at the apps, I noticed that the ones filling the formerly empty slots were ones I had downloaded into iTunes a while back. (Weirder still that I did not use iTunes on the Mac yesterday.)
Yes, I know this sounds insane and if anyone else told me this happened to their phone I'd tell them they had simply forgotten plugging it into the computer to sync. However, I am the only person in the house, have not connected it to the computer, and lo and behold the battery dies and new apps are loaded. What other explanation is there, outside of the iPhone used MobileMe to sync apps and drained the battery?

Update apps would not have gone active from a simple tap as a) I still would have had to enter my iTunes password and b) it would not have put new apps on the phone.
I have a clue about part of this though. All the apps were purchased before the last backup to my computer. If you have more apps than spaces in the iPhone menus does it just place apps up to the magic number of slots or does it go ahead and load everything in there?
My phone did flake out yesterday evening and I had to power down and restart it. So I am thinking maybe those apps were on the phone outside the menu screens and when it powered back up it saw open slots and moved the apps in question into those slots.
As far as why the battery drained in during the day while not being used for anything, I may just jave to chalk that up to a quark for now.

  • Why does my iPad synch iPhone Apps through Cloud Backup Sync?

So I'm having an issue with my iPad 3 syncing iphone apps. It usually happens everytime I put the iPad on the charger and I'm wondering why this started happening, as I don't remember checking or unchecking anything to sync apps (iphone apps?) onto my iPad. I don't want or need my iPad to sync older apps, especially iphone apps in general.
Can anyone tell me where I can manage this or get my iPad to stop downloading the apps onto my iPad?

There lies the possible root of the problem. Make sure you keep enough available space for the ipad to update and function properly.

  • Can iPhone apps be updated via iTunes v download from home network?

I thought that by connecting my iphone through itunes on my laptop I could get all updates for my apps through itunes via synching and it would go very fast.    I have 27 apps currently updating and it has taken nearly 35 mins and the app updates are still downloading.   It's fine I guess when I'm home but I just updated apps a few weeks ago outside of my home network and AT&T had a field day with the amount of data I downloaded, especially since I couldn't cancel the updates.
Also, is there any blessed way to cancel the updates (yes I know they are meant to be there for a reason, but if I don't want them downloading via a cellular network, can I cancel or pause until I am into my home network?
    Thanks,
    Bill

First of all, your profile above indicates you are running OS X 10.6.8.  Is this true?  If so, realize this is the oldest version of OS X that supports the current iTunes (11.2.2).  So once the next version of iOS is released, it seems likely that you would either be required to upgrade your OS X or no longer be able to sync your iPhone.
Given you are running an iTunes version that supports your iPhone, open iTunes on your computer, click the "Apps" tab, then click "Check for Updates" in the lower right.  After you have done that, syncing your iPhone using iTunes will cause the latest versions of the iOS apps to be downloaded to your iPhone from your iTunes.

Can I sync iphone apps to ipad2? ie calculator, weather, compass?

You can sync apps that you downloaded from the App Store - you cannot sync Apple's built-in apps from one device to another (they are part of the iOS and cannot be deleted or transferred)

About the only other way I can think of is to have a computer with you or use one there, if you can put iTunes on it and download all your new stuff to the computer, then sync your iPad to that computer.
In switching computers you will lose previous content, but, as I understand it anyway, downloaded content will be the same as long as the same apple ID is used.

  • How to sync apps on iPad via Wifi from an iMac

    Hello all,
I have been pulling my hair out for the past 2 hours trying to work out how to get the message back that appeared on my ipad saying 'new apps have been downloaded would you like to automatically download this in future' i opened the ipad and the message was gone.
I didn't even know I could transfer them wirelessly - I'm connected via bluetooth to my iMac and on the same Wifi
Does anyone have any ideas how I can sync my apps without connecting to itunes with the USB cable?
    Thanks

There are a couple of iOS5 and iCloud features that are available as a public beta test.  One is automatic download to all your devices at once.  It's not a sync, but a simultaneous download.  If you want all your devices to have the same purchases, you need to enable both your computer and your iDevices.  This explains how: iTunes Store: How to enable Automatic Downloads, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4539

  • Can I only sync iphone ical to mac via itunes or icloud?

We just upgraded to Lion. We have one icloud account. I used to be able to use ical on my mac and it would sync automatically with my iphone 4s. I did not have to sync through itunes with a cable to sync either. I do not want my calendar entries on my mac to populate my husband/wife's iphone or laptop, which may happen if I use icloud to sync. Ihave other calendars syncing like my office outlook via exchange and a google calendar via CalDAv I think. When I looked to see what I would happen if I selected to sync calendars via icloud, this came up. I was afraid that I would lose my other calendars which I think are server based.
I don't know what to do! Help please!

you need an airprint capable printer or download
"print n share" and you can print from the iPhone.

  • Sync iphone apps

I usually download apps through my appstore on my iphone 3GS. My problem is that when i sync my phone with my pc, only a couple of apps do sync and even more, all the other ones disappear from my phone! Is there some kind of history where i can find my apps i've downloaded? And how do i get them back?

If you have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, after purchasing/downloading an app with your iPhone, the app should be copied to your iTunes library on your computer the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so. You need to leave Sync Apps selected.
At the iTunes menu bar, go to Store and select View My Account. Enter the password for your iTunes account.
    Select Purchase History.
You can re-download an app with iTunes on your computer and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally.

  • Sync iPhone Contacts INTO MobileMe

How do I sync iPhone to MobileMe without deleting iPhone contacts?
I just got an iPhone and imported my contacts from my old sim card. I want the contacts in MobileMe but the process described in the sync instructions makes it seem like my iPhone contacts will be deleted. (I tested this by syncing the Calendar and the iPhone calendar items were in fact deleted when I did it)
    Thanks
    Jeanne

First sync the contacts (and all other data) the classic way to your machine using USB connection. Then sync the data from your host to MobileMe. Check (using MobileMe webapps) that MobileMe has all the data.
Once your host machine and MobileMe are up to date, enable MobileMe syncing over the air. This will in deed first delete all contacts and calendar entries from your iPhone. It then retrieves all the data from MobileMe over the air, making all data reappear after a couple of minutes.

  • Sync iphone apps to itunes

Is there a way to SYNC the apps on my iphone to itunes. When I go to sync it says all apps on the iphone will be deleted.

Are you syncing to a computer with an iTunes account other than the one used for your iPhone? That would do it. And in that case, the answer is "yes, sync to your home computer". Otherwise, no clue. Sorry.

  • Connecting iPhone apps through wi-fi proxy

    Hi
My college has just introduced a proxy server for its wi-fi connection - and my iphone apps no longer work. I've put the server details, port and username/password in on the wi-fi settings page - and Safari and mail seem to work correctly and go through this. However I can't use my normal apps (like facebook, twitterific, toodledo, e-news etc..) so they don't seem to be going through the proxy. Is there some way I can make them do this? I don't have a dataplan as I'm spending some time in Africa and it would be too expensive, so could really do with making this work!
Thanks for any time and assistance.

absolutely same issue here. everything works fine on wi-fi without proxy but as soon as there is proxy (in my case wpa2 enterprise) only safari and app store works, all other apps do not see connection. this problem remains unresolved since firmware 2.0 (before it everything was fine) and now we are using 4.0.1 and nothing changed.

  • Syncing iPhone to both MobileMe *and* Mac w/ merged data

I'm almost sure I've gotten this working before, but for the life of me, I can't seem to figure it out now. I want to sync my contacts and calendar to both my MobileMe account and my computer (which also syncs to my MobileMe account) without having two sets of contacts and calendar items on my iPhone. I want to do this because most of the time I use my iPhone in an always-connected mode (via either 3G or WiFi), so sync from my iPhone to MobileMe for additions and changes works great (and syncs down to my Mac without having to connect my iPhone), but I also often travel internationally where my iPhone is offline for long periods of time, so sync via a cable to my Mac is the only way I sync up contacts and calendar. I don't want two completely separate sets of contacts and calendar items on my iPhone, I want them merged as one but still synced to both MobileMe and my Mac through iTunes.
Possible? If so, what are the steps to make it work?

If you do both, then it will give you two copies.

  • IPod Touch/iPhone access to iTunes via WiFi store

We're currently working on RSS based solutions to deliver content out of our iTunes U store to students on campus using the iPhone/iPod Touch on campus.
I'm sure this has already passed through as a thread but...
Is there a possibility that we'll see iTunes U access delivered via the iTunes wifi store before the start of the next academic year (August '08)?
    Mark Leaman
    Bowdoin College

There are a few issues with accessing iTunesU content from your iPhone or iPod touch across your local wifi... Here are some of the solutions we're working toward at Bowdoin.
    *1. Ease of Access*
Let's face it... typing a fully qualified URL into Safari on your iPhone isn't fast, or easy if it is a long address. Using an apache redirect, we're redirecting 'itunes' locally on campus to http://www.bowdoin.edu/itunes. So, for an on campus user, simply entering "itunes" in their browser on their iPhone/iPod Touch will take them to our (soon to open) iTunes U mobile version site (if they are using the campus wifi).
*2. No iTunes U in Wifi Store*
Since iTunes U isn't accessible via the iTunes Wifi Store we had to get creative using the mobile Safari app. When a user lands at http://www.bowdoin.edu/itunes/ the page has a javascript redirect to detect if they're using an iPhone/iPod touch (sample script below). The script will redirect them to a "iPhone/iPod Touch"ized gateway on mobile Safari for accessing our iTunes U content via rss (pulled from "subscribe" button in an iTunes U course".
*3. No .mov support on iPods*
We have some .mov content that won't play on iPhone/iPod. We've adopted iPhone export settings in Quicktime as our ubiquitous format for iTunes U video content.
I've rigged a demo that you can try on your iPhone or iPod Touch Safari browser via: http://itunes.bowdoin.edu
You should be redirected to a page with three buttons linking to feeds provided from with our site in iTunes U. (Note: .mov content samples, such as Athletics, are broken due to the limitation of iPods not being able to play a .mov file.)
    iPhone/iPod Touch detect/redirect script:
    +<script language=javascript>+
    <!--
    +if((navigator.userAgent.match(/iPhone/i)) || (navigator.userAgent.match(/iPod/i)))+
    location.replace("iphone-version.shtml");
    -->
    </script>

  • How to sync iphone s through itunes on old mac

I backed up my old iphone to my mac os x 10.5.8. I just bought a new I phone s. I want to sync it with my mac so I can pull up my old apps, contacts, etc. through itunes. When I plug in my phone, it says I have to download Itunes 11.3 or later. I can't update my itunes. It says I have the latest itunes update, but it is only 10.6. Any suggestions on how I can sync my new phone using my mac and more specifically using itunes?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a PowerPC Mac, it can't sync that iPhone.
If it's an Intel Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
