Syncing iphone contacts with Gmail contacts through itunes

is there a way to sync my iphone contacts and calendar with Gmail contacts and calendar directly through itunes?
when i am on itunes and i open teh drop menu next to contacts, i only get teh option of windowns contacts or outlook. i saw in some blogs this same drop menu having google contacts as well.
i jsut have a gmail account. does it ieed a google plus account or something? why isn't it appearing in the itunes menu?
i have iphone 4 running ios 6.1.3 and the latest version of itunes.

i am more concerned with syncing contacts and calendar (just the same way i sync them now with outlook)
i am refering to the attached picture and the dtop menu in it and wondering why i don't have the same.
reason being that i have a samsung tablet and an iphone and i just want to be able to have the same contact list and calendar notes on both and the only common platform to do that is Google contacts.

I have an iPhone 3GS and a Windows 7 Computer. I can NOT figure out how to stop the duplication (or triplication +)of contacts from happening every single time i sync my phone to my google contacts.
I don't have outlook - so a few months ago when I got a new computer I set it up so my iTunes syncs my contacts with "Google Contacts". Not all my contacts, but some of them (no rhyme or reason that i can tell) duplicate everytime I sync. I've deleted directly from Google Contacts and also directly from IPhone - neither works. Any suggestions? My contacts lists on both ends are a mess.
Oh - one other thing - I went into iTunes and pressed "configure" in the sync contacts section -- and it does nothing. I get no box that has settings. Is this a bug?

Then you do not want to sync contacts directly with a supported application through iTunes on your computer. You should set up your syncing with google as outlined here:

To get rid of your duplicates, follow the directions here:
Deselect Sync Contacts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting Apply, and leave this deselected from here on out or the contacts on your iPhone will be duplicated again.
On your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Select your Google account.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. A warning message should be provided indicating this will erase all contacts downloaded from and being kept synchronized with your Google online address book along with an option to save these contacts locally on your iPhone. Decline this prompt.
This will not erase the contacts synced directly with your computer via the iTunes sync process.
Follow this by turning Contacts back on for over the air syncing.
You will be provided a merge prompt, which you want to select.
This will get rid of the duplicates as long as you leave Sync Contacts deselected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. Doing both is not required and does nothing but duplicate the contacts on your iPhone.

What is the problem?
Why not move everything from the old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to the new one?
If you sync your iphone to a blank computer, then the contacts will be erased.

Sync Iphone 4 with Gmail

I tried to back up my iphone 4 contacts and chose Gmail as the back up and after the back up/sync was completed I rrealised all my contacts were erased from the phone and none were copied to gmail.... this is absolutely terrible. can anyone help me please????? is there anyway to recover these names and numbers???

HT5868 Unable to sync iPhone 5 with latest version of iTunes

Since updating to version 11.1.4 of iTunes, I am unable to sync my iPhone 5 with my PC. When connecting to the PC, I get a message asking whether I want to trust this computer. Since I've synced with it about a hundred times already, obviously I clicked on Trust.
After clicking on Trust, my PC is able to access the photos/etc on the phone - but iTunes will not sync. Further, it does not remember that I have selected to Trust the PC. (I also opted to Not Trust one time, and it didn't remember that either.)
My PC is running Windows 8, but it was perfectly happy to sync my iPhone 5 before this latest iTunes update, which seems to have broken something pretty fundamental. Apple, please issue a fix, or alternatively let me go back to 11.1.3 (which was working absolutely fine for me).

Did I suggest that you were Apple? Do you believe that every comment mentioning an Apple product is aimed at you personally? Or that, if someone sounds off in a moment of frustration, it is directed at you? Or that you need to point out interminably that Apple don't actually monitor these threads? Because, if you do... get help!

How do I sync Iphone contacts without iTunes

My mom has an iPhone 3gs and I am trying to help her with apps.
I tried to download an app for her, but it says "This iPhone requires the iphone 3.2 update". I tried to update the iphone on her computer, but her computer is all messed up and I can't install the latest version of itunes. (she has windows vista, probably a bunch of spyware. For all intents and purposes the computer isn't usable)
So, I tried to plug her iphone into my computer and it says it cannot read the iphone and it recommended that I restore the iPhone.
I'd like to restore the computer so she can have the ios software update, but I need to know how to backup her contacts and pictures without using iTunes.
I have an android phone and I know I can just sync with google contacts, but she doesn't use email, let alone outlook or mobileme.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

As iTunes is still currently listed as a requirement for the iPhone as well as a computer with certain specs, there really isn't an option. You will have to use iTunes to do any backing up of data.

IPhone 3Gs won't sync contacts through iTunes after 4.0.2 upgrade

I updated to OS 4.0.2 today, and since then my iPhone 3Gs will not sync contacts. All contacts have now disappeared from my phone. The group headings still show, but Contacts is empty. I performed a factory reset and restored my phone, but still no contacts. Even after repeated syncs.
I am syncing with Address Book through iTunes. I performed a one way sync each time from laptop to phone to avoid the phone overwriting my address book with zero data. I also backed up my contacts before attempting the sync, so the data still exists in Address Book, it simply won't appear in the phone.
I also tried to reset sync history - first by using iSync 'reset sync history' button, but that does not work these days as iSync does not see my iPhone. Then I tried looking for the reset sync history' button that Apple Support says can be found as follows:
"Open iTunes. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab. Click the Reset Sync History button."
But - that button is not there!
Any ideas anyone?

Did you try to set up your phone without using the latest backup? If you can, your other backup might be damaged and not usable anymore.

Is it because the new itunes looks different.

Then it should work just the same as on your old computer.

I am trying to sync all of my contacts on my iPhone to the Adress Book through iTunes on my MacBook Pro, but can't seem to get them all to transfer. I've tried everything I know how to do, and can seem to reach no satisfactory result. Either my contacts on my phone are deleted, or only a few transfer to the computer. I want them all to transfer over, so that when I get my 4S in the mail I can easily sync everything over again. And not just because of the new phone, I just want all my devices to be universal in their content. Can someone please help me?

I have the same problem. My contacts are getting synced only partially to the Address book. While syncing trough cable everything was working fine. Then i tried iCloud, and suddenly all of my contacts, calendars etc doubled. So i removed iCloud from all my devices, including the Mac. Now the syncing isn't working well: while syncing all of my contacts, the pictures related to some contacts won't get synced. I tried to delete one contact in the address book, just to see if it get's synced if it's not there. But no, it's not syncing missing contacts neither. Apple help!

I have a MacBook, am running Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion [I installed extra RAM]. Prior to installing extra RAM, synching my iPhone with iCloud caused duplicates of every contact in my MacBook Address book. I've exported my vCards to my Desktop and want to re-import my iPhone contacts to iTunes. I am having trouble.
Any suggestions?

I saw that suggestion and tried it....it did not work. When I turn iCloud off, then resynch...it creates duplicates again on my MacBook. Getting frustrated as some of the duplicate contacts have different information...as if all the versions of the contact are being duplicated to my MacBook.

Make sure you enter at least one unique contact (one that is not on your phone - make up an imaginary friend if necessary) in the Address Book on your Macbook before you sync, and choose the "merge" option when you sync. The contacts on your phone will sync to address book on your Macbook, and your imaginary friend will sync to your phone. You can delete him if you want.

I'm trying to sync my iPhone 5 with music from my iTunes library!

I'm trying to sync my iPhone 5 with music from my iTunes library and when i click "sync selected playlists" it tells me i have 501 songs when i know those playlists only contain 120 max! When i untick the playlists the number of songs doesn't change. Nor does it change when i re click the playlists i want! Surely if i do not tick any playlists i'm choosing not to sync any songs? My 16GB phone keeps telling me my interal storage is full. I seem to constantly be backing up and then deleting photos to make room. I have 5.02 GB take up by "other" can anyone tell me what this is? TIA
