Syncing iPhone (how to not loose data?)

I have just reinitialized my disk I was using to sync to my iphone, and completely reinstalled a fresh system. Now I'm trying to get my iphone data off my phone (like contacts) and onto my computer, how do I do this without loosing them? Can I sync my mac with my iphone and have the new mac get the iphone data and have none of it deleted off the phone?
If I loose this data off the phone I will have lost a great many things I need.

Yes, you can. Make sure that your address book and calendar have at least one new entry in them.
When you sync the iPhone for the first time it will prompt you to either override the iPhone or Merge the information. Select merge.

  • Lost some apps after syncing/restoring, how to get lost data back?

    I updated the firmware of my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1 yesterday. After the update, I noticed that I have lost all of my contacts on the phone, so I plugged it back in to the computer and went with "Restore from backup", which was dated just a few hours prior to updating the firmware.
    After it finished restoring, my contacts were all back but half of my apps are missing. I tried redownloading from the App Store as well as syncing from the computer, but the data (game saves, etc) are still missing. How do I get them back?

    It's still listed there, dated around 5 hours before I updated. I right-clicked on my iPhone and chose "Restore from backup" and they still weren't there.
    Most of the apps that I lost were downloaded within the last 6 months, but the apps that remained contained data that are up to date (to just before the update).
    In other words, half of my apps are up to date while the rest are completely missing their data.

  • Sync iphone G3 will not sync calendar

    Have used iphone G3 long time but now iTunes on Mountain Lion goes through motions of Sync but Calendar and Contact changes are NOT realy synced. Items I change do not sync between Macbook and iphone.   Wonder if iCloud has sabatoged ability to sync since iPhone G3 does not have Cloud???

    If new events added to her iPhone do not appear on her calendar on icloud.com, on her phone go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Calendar and be sure she has selected an iCloud calendar as your default and not something else like On My iPhone, a Google calendar, etc.  If she hasn't, make this change, then add a new event and see if it appears on her calendar on icloud.com now.
    If her settings are correct and new events still aren't appearing on icloud.com, add any missing calendar events from her phone to her calendar on icloud.com.  Once her calendar on icloud.com is up to date, go to Settings>iCloud, turn Calendars to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (they will still be in iCloud), then after a minute or so, turn Calendars back to On.  Then add a new event on her phone and see if it appears on her calendar on icloud.com (and her Macs) now.

  • Sync iphone how not to lose photo roll?

    I have a iphone and was using itunes on my work PC (winXP). I recently brought the new 13" Macbook, and have been trying to get my iphone to work with the Macbook.
    I manage to transfer all my purchases to the mac, losing only songs copied via CD. I also deactivated the PC so itunes wouldn't think it was registered with another library.
    But the problem is my iphone safari bookmarks, contacts and photo roll, will be deleted from the empty itunes library on sync. Is there anyway to get itunes to copy off the content from iphone, rather then sync no content from the macbook.
    I am going to try the home sharing which is available with the latest itunes, but why is it that itunes does a brand new macbook has more content then my iphone, it really be nice if was two way sync.
    Anyway any suggests would be appreciated.

    Hi rang apple support and from the above managed to sync without any loss of data.
    Apple suggested I could copy the itunes library from XP to Mac but thought this too complicated.
    Also option of home share with version 9 of itunes, but couldn't install it on XP, download dropout.
    What I did :-
    1. I backup the iphone on the exist XP itunes library.
    2. I backup the iphone on the Maxbook itunes store.
    NOTE: Probably overly cautious but didn't wish to lose my contacts, calendar or bookmarks.
    Couldn't find any setting to merge on iphone or itunes but appears it did do this.
    3. I added a dummy contact and calendar entry to both iCal and the address book, as suggested.
    4. Launched iphoto and imported in my photo roll, and set the delete photo option from iphone.
    Need to sync to iphoto before sync itunes photos as itunes sync's to iphoto folder.
    5. Did a full sync.
    I got the standard warning messages, everything being trashed on my iphone and replaced with what was in my library, but didn't loss anything, yeaaaa....
    Thanks for all the help.
    Now trying to resolver bookmark problem with import of bookmarks.

  • Syncing to new computer without loosing data

    My dell computer has recently crashed, so I purchased a Mac mini hoping it would last. Now my problem is that I have to sync my iPad to my new computer, without loosing any data that I have made I have spent over a year using my iPad and would not be a happy camper if I lost my app data and music. So how would you sync it to do that? I know you can do it I have done it before I just forgot how to do it though.

    You won't lose any apps or iTunes purchases since they are both linked to your Apple ID. As long as they are still available, you can simply download everything again.
    If you had music on your iPad that was not purchased from Apple, then the only place it exists now is on your iPad. Copying it to your Mini requires third party software.
    Read the following two links that address each one of these questions:
    iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer (read the "transferring purchases" section):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
    Syncing to a new computer, crashed hard disk, no backup (this is for retaining your non-Apple music):
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
    If your Dell is "fried" its hard disk might still be readable. Buy an external enclosure for the drive and connect it to your Mac. There is a chance you might be able to transfer its iTunes Library to your new Mini using Migration Assistant.
    If its hard disk crashed that might not be an option.

  • Lost iPhone - How do I restore data from previous phone to new one?

    I recently lost, then replaced my iPhone. Does anyone kknow how I can access the previous data stored for the old, now lost phone?

    iTunes maintains a backup for the iPhone that is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process. This link provides the data included with the iPhone's backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
    When you connect a new iPhone to iTunes the first time, you should be prompted to transfer the backup for a previous iPhone to the new iPhone. This must be followed by a sync with iTunes.
    If you weren't prompted to transfer the backup for your previous iPhone to your new iPhone or you declined this prompt, you can restore your new iPhone with iTunes from the backup for your previous iPhone.

  • I Lost my iphone- how safe is my data?

    I recently lost my iphone and reported it so, had it blocked etc.
    However, even though I had the ecurity lock on, how easy it is for the new recipient to crack the phone and thus my data? I'm obviously particularly concerned about emails, contact and photos.
    To make things more interesting it wasn't running an O2 sim, but rather an Orange one (so it had been unlocked to work with my enterprise network). I know the 'emergency call only' feature was compromised by doing this (as a gleeful PC colleague took great joy in pointing out) so I'm concerned someone may be able to simply plug the phone in and access my data.
    Should I be concerned? What preventative measures should I take concerning email settings? (I've changed my password for primary email account)
    Thanks
    Jon

    If you bought your iPhone in the UK and it has been 'unlocked' to work with an Orange SIM, that's a violation of Apple's EULA and means you should not expect support in Apple Discussions.
    Regarding your data security, it's probably relatively easy for someone to access your data - if your iPhone is hacked, it's not clear if remote wipe via MS Exchange is even possible (assuming you mean you are using MS Exchange/ActiveSync by 'work with my enterprise network').

  • Wifi sync iphone and appletv not working

    Ever since installing 10.8 on my 2010 iMac the wifi has been as source of constant problems. First was the spinning pinwheel of doom and freezing top right menu (resolved by turning the wifi icon off in that menu).
    Now the AppleTV does not connect to the iMac - it had no problems before 10.8 and still connects to our MacBook which is still running 10.7. The AppleTV says connecting, then times out saying connection failed. All settings are the same as for when it did work. Again I suspect it is a WiFi issue, as concurrent to these problems is
    my iPhone 5 iOS6 cannot 'see' the iMac. Under General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync on the iPhone it says either it can't find it or times out while looking... iTunes on the iMac can see the iPhone, but if you try to sync it says the session failed to start.
    Please someone!!! Can I change some sort of Mac address or something?

    Hi,
    One of the common issues with iCal syncing appears to be some corruption between the sync data and the iCal (local) data.
    I'd been having syncing issues between computers, until I stumbled upon this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1377227&tstart=0
    ...and it worked... (though this was initially written for .Mac syncing, I just ran through the procedure now, with MobileMe, and it worked flawlessly)
    Kinda long, but worth a try... (check if you get this 'inconsistent data' error message, you can go to the MobileMe part of your System Preferences, select the Sync tab, and hover over the Calendars - see what it says)
    Hope this helps,
    Kind regards,
    Dirk

  • Plan to Travel With an iPhone, I will NOT Use Data, Need HELP

    So in a week I leave for a month long trip to Germany and Holland. I have an iPhone 4, and I only plan on bringing it to use it as a camera. I'm staying at a family members house so wifi is easy to come by. How should I set my phone so that I will not be pushed any data or will not recieve any sort of change in my bill.
    From my understanding if i put it on airplane mode AND also turn off cellular data in the general>network>cellular data settings that I should be fine and even if someone trys to text or call it will not go through. I just want a confirmation so that nothing makes me want to cry when I come home.

  • SOS - Sync iPhone on 2nd comp = lost data

    A Mac Mini is, by far, my main comp to sync the iPhone.
    In November 2013, I did a new same iPhone sync with my MacBook, being on holidays.
    Then, from November, didn't use the MacBook (to sync) until today.
    In the meantime, did a lot of changes Mac Mini side, like new songs, new playlists, removed songs etc...
    Today
    Today, being away from home, I did a sync MacBook <=> iPhone, expecting songs / playlists to be copied back from iPhone to MacBook.
    But, unfortunately, it did the opposite: bringing all that old November stuff to the iPhone, removing the new songs, the new playlists?!
    Questions
    Would that be normal due to some internal rules - well, I'd hope the sync would honor some timestamp rules, that would prevent to override new stuff with old stuff.
    1. How come such thing can happen? (old stuff over new stuff)
    2. More importantly, how can I fix this - still didn't connect to the MacMini where data is new, fresh and sane? Should I connect to the Mini and everything will be fixed? (ie new stuff replacing that old novemebr copied stuff)

    I would like to avoid a restore (for good reasons)
    But according to your logic, wouldn't connecting the iPhone to the (good) Mac Mini fix everything, since, as you said,
    "If you try to sync to a different computer, it wipes everything from the first computer"
    in this case it would wipe the MacBook old data - and replace with good new dear Mac Mini data - no?
    [ just want to confirm before operating, as I don't want to mess up with Mac Mini data . . . ]

  • How to not repeat data in XSL-FO

    Hello, All,
    Thank you for taking the time to read this.  Hopefully, I can adequately convey to you what the problem is.
    XSL-FO is 1.0
    APEX Listener is 2.0.5
    APEX 4.2.4
    Altova StyleVision 2014 EE
    Using Altova StyleVision, I have created an XSL-FO file that gets uploaded to APEX to create a Report Layout for a Report Query.  It runs okay in that data is returned.  However, formatting the data is the problem.  Here is plain representation of how the data appears in the report now:
    PRINT#  TITLE  DATE       TEXT
    23      Job1   01-JAN-14  Text line 1
    23      Job1   05-FEB-14  Text line 2
    23      Job1   02-APR-14  Text line 3
    47      JobQ   22-MAR-14  Other text line 1
    47      JobQ   15-JUL-15  Other text line 2
    I need it to look like this:
    PRINT#  TITLE  DATE       TEXT
    23      Job1   01-JAN-14  Text line 1
                   05-FEB-14  Text line 2
                   02-APR-14  Text line 3
    47      JobQ   22-MAR-14  Other text line 1
                   15-JUL-15  Other text line 2
    For some reason, I can't seem to get the repeating data to be hidden.  Keep in mind, grouping was not available until 2.0, and I need to use 1.0.  This is, overall, a complex report, so coding by hand is probably not possible.  How can I get Altova StyleVision to do this?  I understand this isn't an Altova forum.  I tried that resource already with no luck.  What I'm wondering is what concepts or syntax in XSL-FO do I need to understand to get this to work?  And going to W3 Schools didn't work for me, either.  I just can't seem to get my mind wrapped around this for some reason.
    -Seth.

  • [iPhone] How would one send data to an http server?

    Hello,
    I would like to be able to send data (maybe XML?) to be processed by a server-side script.
    NSURLRequest seems to be mainly for downloading data, not uploading... A simple "ajax" request would do, so I would just serialize the data and send it in a POST variable. How do I implement such a request using the SDK?

    This what iam doing to post XML and to receive an XML response from our servers. Note that the Content-Type is set to text/xml. If your post data is different, set the type accordingly.
    Also i am using *NSURLConnection -> sendSynchronousRequest* class method to block for the response. You can also do asynchronous read of the response by creating a NSURLConnection object and setting a delegate which will listen for the incomming network events. Check the documentation for NSURLConnection .
    Hope this helps,
    -TRS
    // This method takes an XML post data and returns the response XML from server
    // Note that if you want to post binary data then just send postData instead of
    // postString as input parameter
    - (NSString *) postData: (NSString *) postString toURL:(NSString *) url {
    NSData *postData = [postString dataUsingEncoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding];
    NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:url]
    cachePolicy:NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringCacheData timeoutInterval:10];
    NSString *postLength = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [postData length]];
    [request setHTTPMethod:@"POST"];
    [request setValue:postLength forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Length"];
    [request setValue:@"text/xml" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Type"];
    [request setHTTPBody:postData];
    NSURLResponse *response = nil;
    NSError *error = NULL;

  • Had beta version syncing in 2 LAN PC's, now both have 3.6.10 & don't sync. How did I loose beta?

    From Dec 2009 until June or July 2010 my 2 PC's connected by a LAN were in sync for history, bookmarks, passwords and Zotero. As I recall, Zotero stopped doing automatic syncs but could be commanded to sync. Eventually all syncing stopped. Up to that time both computers were using the then current beta version of Foxfire. I'm not sure of the number. Today I decided to download Foxfire Sync and saw the notation that it was not needed if you have 4Beta. Upon checking I found both computers are running 3.6.10 and there is no version of beta on either. I assume that when I received a notice to update Foxfire that the update installed 3.6.10 and removed beta. Is that how it works?
    Second question: Does Foxfire Sync work with Zotero or is some other sync program required?
    And finally, Would I do better by installing 4Beta?

    No, the option you mention is/was NOT checked. When I talked to two people at the Apple store (One-to-One) and the Genius Bar, they said that it was correctly set (that is, NOT checked), considering the files were ALREADY AAC encoded.
    As I posted, pretty much all of the songs are already encoded as AAC files. They have all been captured off CD's in that format, or purchased from iTunes in that format. They were transferred to the 1st gen Touch in that format, and the attempt was made to make the exact same transfer to the new 4th gen Touch in the exact same format -- with the result that barely half would transfer over to the new Touch.
    One would think that it might be set one way for the older model and one way for the newer, but that's not the case. As an FYI, I DID try checking that option after the first failure of getting everything to load, but it didn't make any difference.
