Syncing Iphone Over USB Hub

I'm having no luck connecting my Iphone to Itunes using my powered Belkin USB hub, so I'm unable to sync and I'm unable to upgrade to 3.0.
I'm working on a MacBook Air and am using vs. 2.2.1 of the Iphone software.
I require a USB hub because the Air has only one USB port and I keep all my itunes songs and aperture photos on a external (powered) USB hard drive. Both the external drive and my Iphone must plug into the USB hub.
Here's what happens... I open itunes... all my songs show up and play successfully. But when I plug in my Iphone, all I get is a twirling beach ball (in Itunes). ARGH!
Any suggestions? Thanks!

I don't think it will work on a non powered hub. Is it powered? you may need to connect to Air directly.
Good Luck

  • Unable to sync iPhone over USB - MobileMe settings SNAFU!

I've been using my iPhone for about a month without enabling its MobileMe sync settings for my contacts, calendars and bookmarks. This was by mistake.
Now I would like to turn on those settings. However, when I try to do that I am told it will erase the existing contacts in my iphone. This is unacceptable as I have added new contacts in my phone over the last month and would simply like to merge them with the contacts on my computer.
The obvious solution is to sync my iPone with with my computer via USB and iTunes, then sync my computer with my MobileMe account, then enable MobileMe syncing on my iPhone and overwrite everything with the thoroughly updated info.
    HOWEVER
This simply will not work. I can't sync my iPhone with my computer because iTunes keeps telling me that "Your contacts are being synced with your iPhone over the air from MobileMe." This is happening DESPITE the fact that I have turned off all of the MobileMe syncing options on both my iPhone and my computer. To be more specific, on the iPhone under HomeScreen/Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendars/Accounts/MacIMAP - all of the sync settings are set to "Off." Moreover, under Homescreen/Settings/FetchNewData - the Push option is set to "Off".
All of this and iTunes still insists that my phone wants to sync over the air from MobileMe.
Why can't I convince my computer that the phone settings are off and thus enable USB synching??
Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated!
And happy Thanksgiving, by the way!

    You're welcome.
An IMAP account is specifically designed for this.
POP accounts are more common than IMAP accounts, but IMAP accounts are not being phased out - not by a long shot. Supporting SSL for the incoming mail server and outgoing mail server is up to the email account provider for the email account. Some POP account providers support this, and some don't. I've never accessed a POP account provided by an ISP that supported SSL or provided an authenticated SMTP server.
A MobileMe account is accessed as an IMAP account, and Apple supports SSL for the incoming and outgoing mail server, and the outgoing mail server is also authenticated.
You can access a Yahoo account as an IMAP account with the iPhone's Mail client only - not with an email client on your computer.
You can access a Gmail account as an IMAP account with any email client.

  • IPhoto does not sync with iPhone over USB anymore

    I'm using iPhoto '11 (9.4.2) on OS X 10.8.2 and an iPhone 4S (now with iOS 6.1.2).
A few months ago when I connected my iPhone over USB iPhoto would start and do the expected workflow as it still does when I connect any other camera: Import the new images and delete them on the iPhone.
Since around I installed iOS 6 on the iPhone iPhoto will not start anymore when the iPhone is connected. When started manually it will show the iPhone but not recognize any new images.
I don't (want to) use Fotostream.
I have looked for other answers and the usually suggested restarting / resetting has not helped.

Have tried changing libraries to backups on external but same result.  They work but not recognized by other programs. All are named iphoto library

  • Wireless iPod syncing - Belkin Network USB Hub F5L009

I stumbled across a nifty gadget today, but I'm having some issues and would like some help. The Belkin Network USB Hub is a thin black box about the same dimensions as my Airport Extreme base station and pulls a nifty trick: when attached to the router via Ethernet, the hub tricks your computer into thinking the attached USB devices are actually plugged into your computer.
My purpose for this purchase was wireless syncing of my iPods and iPhone. Since Apple seems to have some kind of vendetta against people doing this, I wasn't expecting it to work. But it did - for my old iPod mini. The iPod Touch and iPhone 3G showed up fine in the Belkin utility, but iTunes will not recognize them.
I'm still waiting on Belkin tech support. My hub is showing driver ver 1.3.0, although Belkin's support page seems to think ver 1.5.0 was included in the driver package they have posted out there. Only thing is the Silex kext in the package doesn't seem to match up. Frustrating!
Anywho, I figured someone out here might have an answer. Anyone run into this issue/know how to get the iTouch/iPhone to show up in iTunes + sync?
    Thanks!

    UPDATE: LETTER FROM BELKIN
    "Dear mr XXXX,
We are already addressing some issues about the performance and stability of storage drives via Mac OS 10.5.6. Issues with drives disappearing or not being detected at all have been reported by one or two other users, replicated here and passed on to the developers for them to fix in a later version of the software. Unfortunately however I have no information about when the new software should be available. This does mean that for the moment there is no fix for this issue I`m afraid.

So hold off from buying this if you have 10.5.6!!

  • IPhone and USB hub ....

    Hi,
Is there a reason why my iPhone does not show up when connected to my USB 2.0 hub ??? If connected to my iMac it shows up ...
    Thanks in advance.

Apple usually prevents problems that simple. My computer's 3 USP ports are already crowded ... Plugging my iPhone to my iMac is a plug/unplug situation.
So plug your other devices into the hub and reserve one dedicated USB port for the iPhone.
I would have also thought Apple would have implemented a feature that exists already in most of cell phones, a wireless connection to sync with the computer. No wireless and no USB hub connection.
The iPhone is not most cell phones. It is a unique piece with unique features. If it did everything that other cells did the same way there would be no need for it.
If I add to that the absence of a search feature in iCal and Address Book, the fact that they are no notes already implemeted, I would say they are letting go features bit by bit. Design is good and can get iPhone sold, but we usually think of Apple more like a genial feature driven architect.

Narrowing us to use only one cellular company to get a share of our ATT's (or other cell phone companies) monthly cell fees is the biggest insult to the Apple community. In business we call this a «kick back» and it is normally badly perceived. You sell your product a decent price and with honest and upfront conditions and customers will respect and be loyal. I really don't appreciate this move from Apple and me and my family are loyal users since 1984. Considering asiatic markets are potential buyers and can give Apple big profits, Apple can afford to offer a unlocked iPhone to the world.
Its not uncommon for a cell to be locked to a carrier upon initial release. In addition to this, there are a few features on the iPhone (Visual Voicemail) that required the carriers to upgrade their current systems. This could not have been offered with an unlocked release.

  • Connecting iPhone through USB hub

I have a weird problem. When I connect the iPhone through a USB hub, nothing happens. It doesn't synchronize, it doesn't charge. When I connect the iPhone directly to the computer, with the same cable, it works as supposed.
The weird thing is, I have been connecting the iPhone successfully through this (powered) hub for half a year. But suddenly it doesn't work. Everything else connected through the hub works fine.

You're going to want a USB hub that comes with an AC adapter: the iPhone will draw as much power from the port as it reasonably can, and prefers up to 1 A (USB spec is 500 mA) at 12 V to charge as quick as possible. This tends to lead to undervolt situations on the bus when other devices suddenly draw more (a mouse wakes up, a HD spins up, et cetera).
I use my iPhone 3G with a dock on a USB hub that's powered, and have had minimal issues. This isn't an endorsement, just FYI.

  • Sync iPhone over the air?

    Hey everyone,
iPhone n00b here. Does anyone know if it is possible to sync the iphone over the air either via 802.11 or Bluetooth?
I don't want to have to plug it into my laptop every night.
    Cheers

What are you trying to sync? And where does that content reside.
If you are sycning email, contacts, and calendars, then you can sync with Mobile Me "over the air."
If you want to sync music, podcasts or otner content stored in iTunes, then your computer that hosts iTunes must be turned on. WFI can be uused to connect but the compute must be running.

  • OK-- sync iPhone over a network?

Is there any way to connect an iPhone to one computer, but have it sync with another computer over a network? The reason being that my wife's iBook G3 has no USB2 port, so we have to connect the iPhone to a different computer, but she needs to sync with her iCal and Contacts on the iBook.

what about bluetooth? i don't know much about the iPhone (still debating) but i currently use bluetooth to sync my phone with my G5 tower. anyone know if the bluetooth will work?

  • Connecting and Syncing iPhones using USB on Windows systems

Problem:  How do you solve issues where Windows 7/64 does not notice iPhone devices such as the iPhone 4 and the new iPhone 6.
Potential Solution - There are a number of solutions for this problem but I thought one that worked in my case might be of interest to others.  I have a newer system running  on a Asus Z87plus Saber-tooth Motherboard.  My system supports USB 2.0 and 3.0.  I believe one of the causes of this issue is interference with Apples USB drivers from the USB 3.0 ports as I've seen similar problems with other USB 2.0 devices.  To test this theory, I tried all of the various solutions in my system to confirm none of them worked to resolve the issue.  These included removing and reinstalling iTunes, attempting to open the security of the iPhone, looking at the Device Manager and upgrading to the latest Apple Driver, stopping and restarting the Apple Mobile Device Support service, installing the latest version of iTunes(rev 12.0135) and also upgrading the iPhone's bios to 8.01.  Even tried connecting the device and than power cycling.  Basically none of the standard articles seemed to make any difference.
To get things working on my system, I went into the bios and disabled the "Intel xHCI Mode".  I've done some searching on line and found that this bios setting basically disables USB 3.0.  With USB 3.0 turned off, the windows system notices the iPhone 6 just fine as did iTunes as well.  I then turned this feature back on and found that windows and iTunes stopped noticing the iPhone again.  I  repeated this test several additional times with the same results each time.  Finally I tried a new iPhone 4 with the feature on and off and its behavior matched that of the  iPhone 6.  So, if you have a system with USB 3.0 ports and you have tried everything else, check to see if disabling this feature helps get things going.  BTW, you can find loads of information on this bios setting by simply doing a search of "Intel xHCI Mode" in any of the popular search engines.

It took me a few tries to figure it out. iTunes keeps multiple backups from each device. I had to choose the correct one, and then it worked. Thanks!

  • Syncing hosted exchange calendar to iPod Touch over USB won't update-

Wanted to post some helpful advice for anyone that may experience this issue.
If you use a hosted exchange service, and are stuck syncing your calendars and contacts to an ipod touch or iphone over USB, realize that iTunes will only sync the default calendars and contacts over USB, not shared folders. Itunes will give you the option to designate which calendar syncs, but the names in iTunes won't match what is named in outlook.
Have a difficult client who suffers from a mixture of tech hoarding, non-linear thinking, unwillingness to change behavior, tech anxiety, and ego. So there has been a lot of money and time spent to get him tools that help organize his life, and allow me to schedule things for him. I have him on a hosted exchange account so that I can have access to his most up to date appointments and contacts when he travels internationally (He won't leave AOL because he can save emails directly as Word files). His Palm treo (which was only being used as a PDA) was beginning to fail, so I recommended an iPod touch as a temporary, low-cost PDA alternative. He travels internationally in 6-8 month chunks, since it didn't make sense to commit to a superphone. He did it under condition that it would sync over USB, since he is in areas without wifi very often. I checked it on my iphone (since I'm synced to his exchange account), and it worked. So I gave the go ahead.
After some issues with changing out his computers while in Europe, he contacts me with issues that his calendar and contact options were not updating to the most recent information in outlook after syncing with USB. After a support call, I was told to restore the phone, so that everything was erased and would be reloaded with outlook info. After we did that, my client informed me that contacts were updating, but the calendar was missing, except for two events that I had accidently added to it from my iPhone. I called support, who took the issue to tier 2, and was outright told not to talk to me and referred me to my hosted exchange company. I mentioned that they would be unable to help me with why iTunes wasn't updating a calendar in Outlook. He apologized but said that Tier 2 wouldn't take the call, and because it was exchange they wouldn't help. This was with my client on the line in a skype conference, who became maddeningly upset, as he would need to find another PDA while in Europe. Since, my client has sworn off Apple, which I was beginning to lean him towards, due to it's robust OS and backup capabilities, as well as simplicity.
But that's neither here nor there. I noticed that the two events that I had accidently added were on the default outlook calendar, named (oddly enough) "Calendar". Due to issues with me when I setup exchange when we first got it, I had to tell him to use a shared calendar called "Calendar-New" so that him and I could view and edit his appointments from different machines. I was connected to my clients computer over VNC, so I saw that under the info tab in iTunes, where I had checked "Sync with outlook" that there was a second option to sync only certain calendars, and three were listed, ""Calendar", "Calendar-", and "Calendar-1". I asked the tier 1 rep to check to see what these meant, I may be able to redirect iTunes to the right calendar. He was unwilling to, as Tier 2 had yelled at him.
With that, we hung up, and, once I confirmed that his changes to Calendar could be seen on my end, and changes I made could be seen on his end, and that these events showed up on the ipod after he synced it, I realized that iTunes defaults to the default calendar in outlook. Yay!. I went ahead and dragged and dropped all of the events from Calendar-New to Calendar, and now the problem is fixed.
I really wish someone at apple support would have been willing to at least walk through this with me, or at least looked into how the sync works, Ashley in tier 2, shame on you for hanging up on my tier 1 rep! You lost a customer who buys a brand new computer every year. Reminds me of this story

    Hello Snagglebits2
I am an Solutions Engineer for a hosted exchange provider, and that is some good information.
I have not tested this out, but i will. I do remember when i had my ipod touch, that it would sync perfectly over WiFi, but i do not know if i ever tested this by USB.
You should also make sure your customer is on a hosted exchange service that uses Akami.

  • Is there a USB hub that will sync and charge my iPhone

Looking for a USB hub that will sync and charge my iPad and iPhone ideally with 7 ports.
Is there one out there as I can't seem to find any?
Just about to return a D-Link dub-H7 hub as it seems to becausing issues with the USB ports on the iMac. All seems well when i leave a device charging when I go to bed but in the morning none of the iMac ports work until i restart.

This is the problem with these ports. I bought a powered USB at MicroCenter last winter. It had 7 ports, two were designated for high powered devices and yet I plug in one iPhone to charge and within a few minutes, the hub will disconnect from the computer.
All I can recommend is searching for POWERED hubs on Amazon and read the reviews. Not sure if there are some that will actually work but trying a few can get expensive.

  • After Prism scandal: Urge to sync data (Notes / Reminders) over USB and NOT with iCloud

    Hello!
After the PRISM scandal I even want so much more  to sync ALL relevant data between iOS and Mountain Lion Apps over iTunes (USB or WLAN).
I am very disappointed in the (still) missing choice of means of sync for some data.
    Or am I missing something?
Is there a possiblity to sync notes and reminders between a Mac and an iPhone over iTunes (USB)?
    If there isn't any:
I don't understand, why you can choose for most of the data,
but not for notes and reminders.
Here the data you have the choice to sync over iTunes (USB or WLAN):
    > apps
    > calendar
    > contacts
    > music
    > playlists
    > movies
    > videos
    > podcasts
    > books
    > photos
Here the Data you don't have a choice. If you want to sync them,
you have to do it over the Internet and iCloud:
    > notes
    > reminders
I am the only one, using my Mac Pro and my iPhone.
I don't need over the air / Internet syncing for most personal data.
I don't want to share more informations than necessary over the Internet or / and iCloud because of
    > Security,
    > my data cap of my mobile provider and
    > control of my data.
    > PRISM
Many big companies like Amazon, Sony, Valve and others had problems with hackers.
And even I trust Apple very much, Apple can't promise absolute security of data saved in iCloud.
To have the choice to sync things over iCloud is fantastic.
To be forced to sync things only over iCloud / Internet is worrying and disturbing.

  • Iphone 4s is an "unknown device" and iphone 4 works just fine on my USB Hub.

Okay so for as long as I can remember I sync my iphone 4 using my belkin powered usb hub and all works just fine.  Now, since I have had my iphone 4S, my computer will not recognize the device when using my usb hub.  It works just fine when pluged directly into a usb on the computer itself.  Why does 4 work but 4s does not?  Any tips for me to try?  Says something like unknown device or not recognized in a little popup in my system tray when I connect it.  Thanks.
    Win 7 64-bit
    Erik

I found I was able to get around it too in a different way.  I found if you disable the usb hub device in device manager, plug in your iphone or ipad while it is disabled, then enable the usb hub in device manager it works fine.  So I actually ended up writing a little script with an icon on my desktop that I just double click when I connect the iphone and it quickly disables and reenables it for me. I am still not exactly happy with this solution either.
