Syncing iPhone to a new iTunes program

My iTunes program crashed on my computer and I had to unistall and redownload the program from the website. Now I am trying to sync my iPhone and it will not let me sync my library with my purchased music without wiping out the purchased music. How do I make this happen and not lose my music on my iPhone?

Hi choc T,
just ignore the message (can you please tell me what's on the two buttons?) and then right-click on the iPhone tab in iTunes. On the dropdown menu you can select: Backup, Save purchases and so on, select one of both!
NEVER trust anyone who says to ignore the message, but has to ask YOU what is on the buttons. :-| NEVER.

  • Will re-syncing iPhone to a new iTunes installation delete app data?

As per topic above. Recently reformatted my computer before I was able to do any backups (Just couldn't get into Windows).
Now I have re-installed everything and have synced my iPhone with a new iTunes library, but I have not synced my apps as I am scared that whatever data on the apps on my iPhone will be deleted.
    Will this happen?

Basically wjosten's advice worked for me. I had wiped my MBP and installed Snow Leopard but forgot to make a backup of my itunes library. My main concern was the app data. I followed the instructions but chickened out at step 8 when iTunes warned me that it would erase the phone and ..." so I cancelled to just make sure I had everything right but it went ahead and made some weird sync anyway which left about 20% of my apps on the phone. So I restored from that backup I made at Step 6 and this time said ok to the sync at step 8.
But then I checked the sync apps checkbox but either didn't realise or something happened that meant all the apps were unchecked. Next thing I see is "removing {app name}" which started freaking me out. I'm not sure what to do from this point so I started checking all the apps and pressed apply. However, it may work better if you cancel the sync but even better would be to have all apps checked in the first place. In the end end though I didn't loose any data - even on the apps that I saw getting removed just moments earlier. WOOHOO!!
One side effect of this is that the apps are not in the same screen order as before... but that is either my fault or a very very small price to pay
So this method works but you have to have the guts to click ok
Also, be careful of your voice memos - I'm not sure if the instructions here cover those but they are not paid content so I would make sure you use something like http://www.macroplant.com/phonedisk/ to back them up.

  • Where does one sync iPhone with the new iTunes? The button to get to iPhone disappears after a few seconds.

I downloaded the new iTunes tonight (11/30/12) and it is significantly different but there is a problem with the icon for finding the iPhone in order to sync. They have either made this significantly harder or there is a bug. The video tutorial was no help on this point. Thanks.

try holding ctrl + S. that should pop the side bar up, so you can see your devices.

  • Syncing iphone to a new itunes library on new computer.

Does anyone know how to sync my iphone to another computer without having to erase everything and start over?  My old computer crashed, and I recently got a new one with windows 8 installed.  Anyone who can help, it is REALLY appreciated.

    Hi samfergs,
I'm not sure how the Purchased Playlist decides what to put into it, but if you want to see all of your purchased items, then you need to go to the iTunes Store, and on the right side, under Quick Links, click on Purchased.
Then, click on the Music (or whatever other purchased items tab you want to look at). If you are looking at Music, click on All Songs, and then on "All" or "Not on this Computer" (depending on what you want to see).
    Cheers,

I got a corrupted profile on my windows comp due to a glitch in the windows system. I created a new one and accessed all my info from the old profile. I copied all ym info over to the new profile. I signed into iTunes but I none of my info was there. How do I sync my phone to my computer to a blank iTunes without losing all my data on my phone?

    Hello there Tami P.,
I was thinking either one of a few things here. You may need to open the Music tab in the iPhone device window and select the music you want to sync over to the phone. Use this article to help with that if needed:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386.
Also you may need to associate the device with your Apple ID then try syncing again. Use this article to help with that:
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
If all else fails, I would recommend restorign the phone through iTunes.

    All the very best,

  • How can I sync the music on my iphone to a new itunes on a new computer without losing everything?

Just recently I got a new laptop which means a fresh, new itunes. The old computer had all my songs but it's a really slow old computer so i can no longer sync my iphone to it anymore. so i was wondering how could i sync the music i have on my iphone to my new itunes on my laptop? the only option i've seen is syncing the 3 sample songs i have on my itunes to my iphone but then i would lose all my other songs. help.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.
The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
Iphone will sycn with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content.

  • I can't sync my iphone with my new itunes with out losing any of my apps. How do I sync this?

I am lost. I tried to sync my Iphone with my new itunes on my new computer and it says are you sure you want to synce apps? All existing apps and there data on the iphone will be replaced with apps from this itunes library. HELP!!!!!

You need to Copy iTunes from Your Old Computer to your New Computer...
    See Here
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    Or...
From your Old Computer... Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..
An Added Bonus is that you will then have a Backup of iTunes...
