Syncing iphone to iTunes on two different computers...

Hello everyone.
So I have been wrestling with these trying to find a solution for my issue.
I think this is a two part question.
I have iPhone that I use for both home and work. I have some music, apps and such on it. Basically, when at work, I plug it in to let it charge and do the same at home.
Now, the problem is, I cannot sync my iphone correctly. Seems like my home is different from work and I always end up having to reinstall my apps, download pics and music.
Is there a way to get around this, so I can plug in my iPhone into either iTunes location and it will be the same? I cant seem to figure it out.
The other thing I was hoping to get answered is, I subscribe to a lot of podcasts through iTunes. I usually do this at work on my Mac there. Is there anyway to get the podcasts that I subscribe to at work, to show up on my Mac at home?
Appreciate the help.
Jas

I'm pretty certain you can't have your podcasts show up on your iTunes from a different library but there are some third-party softwares that will allow to you transfer music etc. back to your mac.
I'm not too familiar with the iPhone but there are a few similarities with the iPod.
Unless you 'manually manage' your iPhone then you can put music (and am assuming applications) on it from different libraries. You should be able to listen to your music from other sources when your iPhone is connected.
If at any point you revert to automatically syncing you iPhone it will only sync the contents of the library you've synced it to.

  • IPhone - purchased applications on two different computers

Hi guys, I hope you can help:
I have an iPhone 3G, and I have two macs that I use every day - home and work.
For reasons too boring to go into detail here, I have accidentally purchased iPhone applications on both of my computers.
I was wondering since I use the same iTunes account, is there anyway to merge my applications onto one iTunes?
I have found ways to do contacts from one and music from another, but not applications from both?
Is it an iTunes issue or an iPhone one?
    Thanks in advance...

Applications would fall under the same rules as itunes content, such as music. It can only be synced to one machine at a time. You may be able to move the application via a flash drive to another authorized computer, not sure. I think you can download the application again(for free) to the other computer, as long as the itunes account is the same.

My computer broke and it is currently being fixed, but in the meantime I want to update my iPod. Does anyone know if I can download iTunes on a different computer and plug in my iPod to put the songs I currently have and put different ones on. Also, if I do that will it be able to work on my computer when I get it fixed? Thanks

  • HT4191 SYNCING TWO DIFFERENT IPHONES TO ITUNES WITH TWO DIFFERENT SETS OF CONTACTS !! DO I NEED TO HAVE TWO SEAPARATE CONTACT FOLDERS ON MY PC BEFORE I SYNC EACH IPHONE?

Can anyone help me with this? Two separate iphones need backing up to itunes which is fine for music photos etc apart from the contacts as we dont want the contacts to get mixed up off both phones on the same contacts folder.

    Hello, gref1975
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The best option would be to create separate user account on the computer that you separately use to sync with.  This keeps contact and calendar data from being merged together.  You can however still sync or share media with each user by following the steps in the second article below.
    Create multiple user accounts
Do you share your computer with someone who has different tastes in music and media? You can create separate user accounts for each person who uses the computer. You can maintain separate, personalized iTunes libraries and customize each devices' sync settings accordingly.

    OS X Lion v10.7

    Windows users
Look in your computer's Help documentation to learn how to set up other user accounts. To find this information:
Click the Start Menu and click Help or Help and Support.
Enter "new user" in the Search field.
    Press Return.

  • I accidently deleted my voice memos on my iphone. i was using itunes on two different computers and my voice memos are gone. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO RETRIEVE MY LOST VOICE MEMOS? PLEASE HELP!

itunes asked me if iwanted to erase all my files on my iphone when i connected it to my second computer.
    i clicked yes
and all of my very important voice memos were deleted
however none of my photos were deleted...... and they count as files don't they?
anyway i need help on how to retrieve deleted voice memos
    PLEASE HELP!!!

You should never try to sync your phone with more than one computer or you will lose your data.  The pictures were not deleted because the sync process does not touch Camera Roll pictures (it only includes them during the backup step of the sync process).
If you had these voice memos on your phone when you last synced it to your first computer, and if you haven't synced to this computer since then, you could restore from the backup created during your last sync.  This will replace the data on your phone with the data from this older backup so anything new will be lost.  If you think that is the case, do not sync your phone again to the first computer prior to restoring from this backup or you will overwrite it and the backup will be lost.  Instead, prior to connecting your phone to your first computer, open iTunes and disable automatic syncing by going to iTunes Preferences and on the Devices tab checking "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Then connect your phone and when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar right-click on its name and select Restore From Backup and choose your last backup (containing your voice memos).
If you didn't have these voice memos on your phone when you last synced to your first computer, or if you have synced again to your first computer since losing your data, then your voice memos and other data are lost.

  • Put itunes downloaded from different computers on same ipod?

    Hello,
I have downloaded itunes onto two different computers using the same account. How do I put these itunes onto my ipod without deleting any content? Thanks, Jake.

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer change the update setting on your iPod to manual. Connect your iPod to the computer you are using it on now an in iTunes go to Edit>Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing Your Songs Manually
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • Combining 2 itunes from 2 different computers

I have two itunes on two different computers and i was wondering what would be the best and easiest way to combine them

Hi, I have a suggestion, Try getting an external hard-drive or if your collection is small, get a USB drive.
1-Find where your songs are stored or where iTunes is getting them from (to find out go into iTunes Prefs or settings under "advance tab"- it will say iTunes Media Folder Location).
2- Go to that spec. fold location and copy or move you music to your USB/External Hard-drive
3-Go to your new computer, put in USB/Hard drive, BUT!!!!... instead of Dragging music files to itunes directly to your iTunes Music Library, on left side of bar in Itunes, copy the music into the fold which the new computer's music is store, to find out repeat step 1&2
4-Copy that music in THAT folder first, (because if not, you'll have to leave you USB/Hard drive plugged in all the time if you want to play/snyc music. iTunes remembers where the files are, it doesn't store them direct into the program itself, so if you ever have an "!" by your songs, that is why-FYI)
5-From THAT folder on your NEW COMPUTER, import them into iTunes (File--Import into Library) OR Select and drag into "Music Library"
6-iTunes will ask if you want them to be organize , I click yes, and depending on how many songs you are moving into your new computer's iTunes, you might want a cup of coffee--or do a cross word
    I hope that helps!!!

  • How do you sync an iPhone to two different computers?

I just got my iPhone and was adding music to it, but I have my music on two different computers, both of which I have songs I want to add to my iPhone. I was just wondering if there is a way to sync music from two different computers without having to transfer all my music to one computer?

iTunes includes a backup to disc feature with an option to backup content purchased from the iTunes Music Store only or all iTunes content - burned to CD.
You can do this and then transfer your backed up iTunes data to the other computer.
The iPhone was not designed nor intended to be a backup device or a transfer device of iTunes content from one computer to another as Ansuz82 provided to prevent music piracy.
It is always the few that would abuse such a feature if available that spoils it for the majority that wouldn't.

  • Can I sync apps to my ipad using two different computers + itunes

    Hey guys,
I'm having a bit of a problem. I have two computers (windows laptop + windows pc) which I use both for buying apps (my ipad isn't always connected to our internet), recently I bought an app on my pc and then when syncing it asked for me to 'Erase and sync'. So I did this and the app installed fine, but all my other apps were reset.
Is it possible to use two different computers to buy apps and sync with my ipad without having to erase and sync?

    Thanks for your reply,
Im a bit disapointed with this though, seems sort of impratical.. I dunno what to do now, what computer to stick with :/

  • Itunes in 2 different computers, syncing??

Can I install Itunes in 2 different computers and sync my ipad and my iphone in both of them?
also, my old compuer died... so the iphone and the ipad are not new, but the itunes will be newly downloaded.... will that affect the info?
    THX I am freaking out...

Yes, but it is not trivial...
    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entires and import the local content you have on that box.
You should be able to transfer your purchases into a newly authorised library, backup the device, recover any non-store purchased media with the tips in  this post from forum regular Zevoneer, (skip this if you've already got all the media) then restore the device from the backup you just made. That should  preserve all your data and switch the assocation of the device to the new machine. I've had positive feedback on this method from other users but I've never had to test it personally.

  • Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?

    Using Windows 7, iphone 4.
I've read as many threads on these forums and as many kb's as I could find, but I sttill can't figure it out. I have 2 iPhones. Let's call them, "wife" and "hubby". I want to have two separate iTunes, one for each of the phones. Hubby is the Windoows User. I don't want to set up a different Windows User for wife.
Hubby was the original iPhone. When I plug it in, iTunes recognized it has Hubby's iPhone. Then I unplug Hubby and close iTunes. I plug in Wife but iTunes stll comes up with Hubby under Devices and syncs Hubby's iTunes to Wife's iphone.
I've tried using the shift key when I open iTunes to set up two separate .itl files to no avail.
Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?
    Thanks!

What happens if you rename the iPhone "Wife" when it shows up as "Hubby", then choose a different set of apps/playlists to sync with? iTunes is supposed to be able to manage multiple devices, each with their own selection of content. Perhaps you "restored" "Wife" with a backup from "Hubby" when you first set things up which is now causing confusion.
To create a new library press and hold down the shift key as you click the icon to start iTunes and keep holding shift until asked to choose or create a library. You need to use the same technique to switch back.

  • Same iTunes Account on Two Different Computers

Is there any way for someone to create an iTunes that allows a person to access the same iTunes account on two different computers? Like if my mom wanted the same songs on her computer as the ones on my dad's computer, but she doesn't want to go through the trouble of using a flash drive. They both want to have access to the same account on two different computers.

if the computer cannot be turned on, one option would be to remove the hard drive and put it in an external enclosure that can be connected to the working computer.

Copy the content from one computer to another and import the media into iTunes.
Any playlists, playcounts, etc on the computer the content is being moved from will be lost.
