Syncing iPhone will change more than 5% of your contacts?

Now when I try to sync my iPhone with my Mac I get the message that more than 5% of my contacts will be changed. I want to keep what's on my Mac and write that to my iPhone. How can I do this? Thanks....

What the program is telling you is that you have more than 5 for every 100 new contacts, changes within your contacts, contact deletions, etc.
It is merely giving you a "heads up" that there are more than just "a few" changes to your contacts list. It, and iCal, should follow up that page saying how many additions, changes, and deletions occurs within that 5%.
For instance, when i add 1 month of my work schedule and sync it to my iPhone, I get that message, as it is adding 30 brand new additions to my phone.
Does that make sense?
As above, the suggestion if you are really concerned for overwriting, or just totally neurotic, is appropriate - making routine backups.
Or just wait until next week for Leopard for your next sync, and Time machine will make sure you never ever delete a contact by mistake.
Good Luck

  • Syncing will change more than 5% of your calendars on this computer

    Hi all,
I'm new to iPhone, but very familiar with Mac. When I attempt to sync my iPhone to my calendars in iTunes I get the message that syncing "will change more than 5% of the calendars on this computer."
    What's this mean?
I always hit cancel because I don't want to lose any calendar info on my Mac.
I'm attempting to sync 9 or 10 iCal calendars.
I'm sure this has been well covered in these forums, but I'm able to find my answer.
    Thanks!

    What's this mean?
Basically you have more or newer info on one side of the syncing devices.
Click on Details when you get this message and you'll see the entries that differ on the phone based calendars. One solution could be to set up your calendar on your computer as desired and replace the calendar info on the phone during the next sync. Click the option in the info pane/ advanced section in itunes with your phone connected.

  • Syncing with MobilMe will change more than 50% of your Keychains....

I keep getting this message. This keeps popping up in spite of me doing the following:
Running Keychain First Aid to verify/repair any problems
Resetting Sync by having the Mac overwrite the keychains on mobileme and then having the other Mac overwrite its keychain with mobileme data
I am a bit stumped over why this keeps cropping up so often. Is it related to MobileMe?
    Thanks

Yes, it's related to MobileMe (not iSync) - the MobileMe forums are here:

  • Synch will change more then 25% of your bookmarks on this computer

I'm trying to backup my  ipad and when I do I get a message saying synch will change more then 25% of your bookmarks on this computer
I am trying to keep my bookmarks on icloud so my macbook my iphone and my ipad can all have the same book marks.
The only thing I've done lately is delete a folder in my bookmarks in safari on my macbook, its saying that 14230 will be deleted and 587 will be added.
Is this the result from deleteing that folder, i can't see there have been that many book marks in that one folder.
Also everytime i synch my ipad it seems that it keeps downloading the same apps all over again.
    Whats the deal with this?

The only ways to avoid that issue are either to disable syncing of the iPhone's calendar, or reset the iPhone's sync data by overwriting it with the computer's data. If you do this, any new calendar items added to the iPhone since your last sync will be lost.
To reset the sync data plug in the iPhone. Open iTunes. Click the Edit menu, then Preferences, then the Devices tab, then click "reset sync history."

  • Syncing will change more than 25% of contacts, to add "display type"?

    Hi all.
Suddenly I'm getting this warning on a phone I've synced numerous times before.  The warning shows that 145 contacts will change on the computer, and the only change is that "Display type" will change from <empty> to "Person".
I suppose this happened with an iTunes update, and Apple decided that it wasn't permissible to have this field empty.

The only ways to avoid that issue are either to disable syncing of the iPhone's calendar, or reset the iPhone's sync data by overwriting it with the computer's data. If you do this, any new calendar items added to the iPhone since your last sync will be lost.

  • Sync Alert - Change more than 5%

    Hi all,
I am currently syncing between a MacBook Pro, a PowerBook G4 and a Sony Ericsson cell phone. Quite often on the laptops, I receive the error that states, "more than 5% of your calendar/contacts will be changed... are you sure you want to sync?" In most cases, only 1 or 2 items are being changed, yet I have hundreds of contacts and many more calendar items. In other words, much less than 5% of my items are being changed.
This become more than a minor frustration when one of my laptops is stuck on this warning, which prevents my other laptop from syncing. I don't always have the other laptop with me, so at that point, iSync is dead in the water.
Is there a problem here, or a way to change this warning? What might be going on?
    Thanks,
    -Keith

One of your free-standing computers being 'stuck' with this notice in the foreground will not prevent the remainder of your synchronization pool from interacting, and has nothing at all to do with iSync. iSync is simply the client responsible for interchanging data between supported mobile handsets, smartphones and Palm organizers and the Address Book and iCal applications. Nothing more.
It may be that the truth database on board one of your laptops is corrupted or outdated, or has become non-responsive to synchronization requests from other clients through .Mac Sync or a similar conduit. To deal with this, you should determine which of the machines is more likely the problematic one, and reset the framework using iSync on that machine. To do so, launch iSync, open the Preferences… dialog, press the Reset Sync History… button and follow any instructions which appear.
Once completed, synchronize—which will initiate a first time, slow synchronization and merge all client data, then synchronize again upon completion of that process, about five minutes after the first task has been completed. That should provide sufficient time to trigger other events across .Mac Sync or similar conduits, though your chosen interval determines the likely actual period of time you must wait until synchronization returns to normal.
You can also adjust the threshold which triggers this message in iSync in the same Preferences… dialog. But, choose your warning level carefully, and only after you have performed the reset.

  • HT6058 Will this new update slow down my iphone 4 even more than the last update?

Will this new update slow down my iphone 4 even more than the last update?

Thats a hard question to answer.  The iPhone 4 has older technology than newer models which can cause the device to lag.  Depending on what data and settings you have on the device, it could run slower.  I would probably make sure to constantly close apps in multitasking and possible think about restoring the device as a new device.  Make sure to backup your data prior to the restore

  • If I use the same iCloud account for my ipad and iPhone, will changes I make on one change on the other as well?  I'm not sure of the advantage of using teh same iCloud for both devices.

If I use the same iCloud account for my ipad and iPhone, will changes I make on one change on the other as well?  I'm not sure of the advantage of using teh same iCloud for both devices.

No, it only mirrors changes to synced data.  This includes mail, contacts, calendars, reminders, safari bookmarks, notes, iWork documents and data, and photo stream photos (assuming you choose to sync all this data).  Changes to iTunes data such as music, apps, podcasts, etc., are not synced using iCloud.  In your example, if you delete an app from one device it will remain on the other until deleted there too.

  • "this iPhone has used more than 5 apple id's" please help.

I have my friend's iPhone 4 but I have restored the phone, still when I try to log in into iCloud, it gives me an error "this iPhone has used more than 5 apple id's" please help.

You think you are logging into icloud, but the error you get indicates that you are trying to create a new account.  Since each device has a limit to the number of ID it can create (you seem to have reached that limit), then IF you are trying to create a new account, you'll have to use a different device or computer to do that.  Otherwise you are not entering an ID to an existing icloud account.

i Had a simular issue years ago with my blackberry on ATT.  As it turned out, my SIM had some issues.  I would head over to your carrier and get a free sim replacement.   It could be a phone or SW issue, but the Sim is my first guess give my experience

I had an iPod Classic 5th Gen that I upgraded from 30gb to 80gb.  The problem I'm having is that it will not sync more than about 5.4gb worth of songs.  The iPod begins to freeze mid sync and the (-69) error message haults the sync process.  The hard drive has been upgraded, it has a new logicboard (with 128mb RAM), new housing, battery, hold / headphone jack.  Basically the only original parts are the bezel, click wheel, screen, and data ribbons. Have attempted the 3Rs and have also tried to isolate potentially corrupt audio files and remove them, but this did not seem to be the primary cause.  The sync failure consistently happens at just under a 1000 songs (5.4gb) and then it starts to error (-69) any song after that.  Your advise would be enthusiastically received.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.
