Syncing iphoto and ipod

When trying to sync pics from iphoto, all buttons are dim. Therefore I can not select any options.

When I try to click on the box in front of "sync photos from", I get the following message. "All existing folders will be replaced with photos & albums from the current photo library". I do not want all pics put into my ipod, just the pics from one of my folders, not the entire library.

  • Sync iPhoto to iPod 5G (Unkown Error (-50)

When I try to sync my iphoto albums to my iPod I get an Unknown error (-50). I have created a few Albums with in iPhoto but they do not apear when i choose to sync iPhoto. My iPhoto Library is located on an external hard drive and contains a huge number of photos. If i select a directory anywhere, then there is no error. I would like to keep my photos on the external HDD if possible as it will fill the internal HDD to the brim.
I'm sorry to be so vague but I'm very new to iMac way. Anyhelp would be great........ (at a simple level would be even better).
    Cheers!

    Glad to see there's progress.
The key thing to remember about using iPhoto is to do everything via the iPhoto Window. The good news is that you can do everything via the iPhoto Window.
To use an external editor with iPhoto, go to iPhoto -> Preferences and in the General Pane, set PSE as your external editor using the drop down menu at Edit Photo:
Now, if you want to edit a pic in PSE simply double click on it in the iPhoto Window and it will open in PSE automatically. When you save it in PSE it will be saved back into iPhoto automatically.
As to more general file finding: There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, it produces a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Syncing iPhone and ipod nano toi the same iTunes

I have an iPhone (16GB) and and Ipod nano (4GB) and about 9GB of content in my iTUnes. IS it possible to sync both these to the same iTunes library on the same pc. All the iTunes content is on the iPhone but it is too much for iPod nano. I use the two for different things for eg: the nano has nike Plus on it and I also use it for gym etc
in Effect, can you have 2 different libraries to sync with different ipods on the same PC and iTunes

Yes, you can use multiple devices with one library, I use 2 regular iPods and a shuffle (I have a friend who syncs both an iPhone and a Nano, she syncs each with it's own separate playlist). You can for instance have one sync the entire library and another sync a selected playlist or playlists. iTunes recognises each device that is connected and they can each have their own individual settings: There are several different ways to use multiple devices with one computer, you can read more heres: How to use multiple iPods with one computer

  • Syncing iphone and ipod to new laptop

I have just got a new laptop and am trying to sync my iphone and ipod to it
    everything is on another computer.
I have managed to drag my itunes folder from my old computer to a usb stick and transfer it to my laptop.
If I sync them will I loose all my music, ringtones and apps etc?
    Can anyone advise please?

You won't lose them, but they will be erased from the phone then put back on (so it may take a while).

  • Syncing iPhone and iPod

My iPod s smaller than my iPhone, and I have different music to sync to each one. Does iTunes recognize the device and allow you to have separate songs / albums checked for each device?

Yes, iTunes will recognise each individual device you connect and they can have their own separate settings. However if you are using unchecking to sync songs you can't have some checked for one device any some checked for another, the songs are simply checked or not checked. Make separate playlists for each device and sync a selected one to the relevant device.
When your iPod or iPhone is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to the relevant playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod or iPhone. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod or iPhone are kept "in sync".
Open iTunes and create a playlist to load your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources), make another and call it -iPhone. Drag whatever content you want to have into each playlist. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists, artists and genres radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. Repeat the process with the iPhone and select the playlist you made for it.

  • My computer died, but I have 2 iPads and an iPod.  How can I sync iPad and iPod to update iTunes library on ipod?

  • Fully synced iTunes and iPod show different quantity of songs

Here's an odd little one that I hope somebody may be able to help with. iTunes and my 80Gb iPod Classic are fully synced (I've just synced them again to be sure), but while the Music tab on iTunes is showing that I have 2766 songs, on the iPod it only shows that 2740 are there.
I'm wondering where the other 26 songs are on the iPod, when both are fully synced. I must admit I haven't gone through every single song on both of them to try and find where the 'missing' 26 are.
Can anyone tell me if this is a known issue of the iPod counter simply being wrong? Or are there really 26 songs whach have, for some unknown reason, not synced to my iPod?

How many music videos do you have? When I first got my iPod I had this same problem and it turned out that the music videos showed up under the music tab. When I'd check the music count on my iPod it was less by exactly the number of music videos I had. The music videos on the iPod were in the Video section.

  • New Hard Drive and software, need to sync iPhone and iPod

Just had my HD replaced. The old one died after 4 years with no warning. I went to authorize the computer in "Store" in iTunes, but it kept telling me the computer was not online and to try again. The iMac was online. As far as I can tell, I must authorize the computer before I can download the data from my iPhone and iPod.
Any ideas? I should be able to sync the calanders and so forth from my iPhone, correct?
    Thanks!

I finally found iTunes 9.2 and it learned my computer was authorized. The iTunes that existed on the old drive - that drive is dead, and I was not able to do anything with it.
    Yes, I can get online.
Now my problem is this: while iTunes will let me transfer songs off the iPod that were purchased on iTunes, all the CDs I ripped will be erased if I sync the iPod. I don't really wish to go through the "re-ripping" process.
Also, iTunes also wants to delete all the apps on my iPhone.
BTW, when I contacted the Apple Store where I spent $400 to have the drive replaced, they told me to call Apple. I asked why no one told me that I would have to repeat every update I ever did to the system over the last few years, and that it might be problematic to sync my devices, they told me to call Apple...

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Install and run iTunes then connect the device(s) with the USB cable that came with them, to use iTunes you will need to create an Account with the Apple Store. iTunes will backup/synch the data on your device(s) with your MacBook.

  • Sync iPhoto and Ap2 for 2 different users

I am not a pro -- just home and hobby user. I have iPhoto, which is nice and easy to use. I have also been testing Ap2. Though I have a few grumblings about it, it adds a lot more things I can do with it and I think I may move over.
The issue is my wife and I share the same photo database, and she's not one who likes to learn new technology (whereas I love new tech toys). She'll want to stay using iPhoto.
Let's assume for sake of argument that I know how to set permissions on a single database file for two users on the same Mac.
Is there any way for Ap2 and iPhoto to share the same db of photos, where my wife could import and work on pics via iPhoto and I could do the same from Ap2, but we can see the pics that each other has brought in?
    Message was edited by: bk1000

If I correct the red eye in Ap, my wife won't see it in iPhoto? What if I purposely make a duplicate with changes made in Ap? Would she be able to see that duplicate?
No, the two apps are utterly unaware of each other in that respect. The best you can do is to copy a file over to iPhoto - but that won't work as an iPhoto "modified" file, only as a new file.

  • Syncing iphone and ipod to new imac

I have a new imac (bought yesterday) and when i hookup my ipod and iphone it tells me that it will erase the device and load my music off the imac. No music on the imac yet! What am I doing wrong

You need to transfer your iTunes library from the computer that you were syncing your iPod and iPhone with to your iMac, along with all other important data on your old computer that you will need or want to access on your new iMac, such as photos, documents, etc., etc.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone cab be synced with a single iTunes library on computer only, and the same for photos transferred to an iPhone - from one computer only. When doing this with another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.

  • Syncing iPhone and iPod touch with same computer/iTunes account

My son has an iPod Touch that we sync on my wife's computer and iTunes account. She is planning on getting an iPhone and I'm worried that when she attempts to sync her new iPhone that she'll get all of my son's iPod Touch apps. Is there a way to keep apps separate for each device?
    Thanks!
    David

You can sync as many devices as you want to the same iTunes account, there is no limit. You can have the same content on each device or different content, the choice is yours. iTunes will keep everything straight, by device, upon subsequent syncs. Just select what content or no content you want on your wife's phone, itunes will keep it all straight, including separate backups.

  • Syncing iPhone and iPod Touch to same calendar

DH has an iPhone and I'm about to get an iPod touch. We're setting up iCal on the home computer and we both want to sync our devices to our iCal calendar, so we both have record of birthdays/appointments etc. Currently I've set iCal up with only the Home calendar with all our events, and subscribed to the US holidays calendar.
Is it possible to sync 2 devices to one calendar?
    Thanks.

Yeah, as long as you select the calendar under the Info tab in iTunes for both devices.
Anyways, I can confirm this because my Dad has an iPhone through work and my Mum has an iPod Touch and they sync their devices to all the calendars my mum has made on her iMac.
