Syncing iPod after restoring computer

I recently had to restore my computer and when I did that, I lost all my music, except what was on my iPod. I hooked it up to my computer only to have it not show up in My Computer, but it will show up in iTunes, except when I go to try and look at it in iTunes, it disconnects. I have no idea what happened or what to do.

Ha!
I figured it out! It happened to me too and I was really bumming and then I found this!
http://www.metaphoriclabs.com/articles/5-ways-to-copy-music-off-your-ipod-window s-mac-os-x/
Then it didn't really work so I was bummed even more but what didn't work on mine was because the folders had to be changed from Hidden to Read-Only in the property section of the file. Follow the link's instructions until you find your Ipod_Control -> Music _*Also follow the lastish step of changing the iTunes preferences ITS VERY IMPORTANT!*_.(After following the steps) You can get there by highlighting all files you found on the iPod in the IPod_Control section, going to the very bottom of the right-click menu and selecting Properties. Then from there look for a section called Attributes, uncheck Hidden and check Read-Only.
It works fantastically for me now!
Hope this helped!

  • Syncing iPod After Restoring iPod to Original Settings

I am having a problem syncing my iPod with iTunes after restoring my iPod to it's original settings. I have a 20GB iPod with a click wheel that I recently restored to its original settings because the iPod was locking up. To complete the restore, I had to first force my iPod into disk mode, which allowed me to restore the iPod. After successfully restoring my iPod, I connected my iPod to my computer to sync it with iTunes and download my music library back to my iPod. At first, 3 to 4 songs/podcasts began to download, but then I received the following message:
"Windows-Delayed Write Failed. Windows was unable to save all the data for the file G:\iPod_Control\iTunes. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."
My OS is Microsoft XP. I went to the Micosoft webpage, but didn't find any helpful information. If anyone has any suggestions on how to solve this problem, your input would be apprecicated.

When you went to Microsoft, did you find/try the following document?

  • Can't drag music from iTunes to iPod after restore and sync

I did a restore on my 80 Gb iPod classic because the 'catalog' became disorganized. The restore (from latest iTunes under Win7) and the sync/loading of songs seemed normal. The iPod works completely normally EXCEPT when connected to iTunes. Then, I can no longer drag albums to the iPod and the iPod song display is in grayed text instead of black.
My only theory is that I may have responded to a dialog box during sync which showed my very old and no longer used apple ID. iTunes uses my current ID.
If that IS the case, how do I fix it? Or, what other kinds of things could be wrong?

Probably. I ran in that mode since the thing was new, only changing after restore because sync is the default and when I uncheck sync music there is this ominous dialog box saying that 'not sync' will cause all of the content to be removed (or words to that effect).
I'll mess around a little. The worst thing that could happen is losing this tound and going back to restore!
    Thanks

  • How to get music back on ipod after restoring

After restoring my iPod, all of my music and videos were deleted but there still pn my iTunes account, how do I get them back on my iPod?

If your media is in the iTunes library on your computer, just sync your iPod with your computer using iTunes. Everything will be restored.
Otherwise, you can redownload most things from the iTunes Store without being charged again:

  • IPhone syncs automatically after restore despite 'prevent automatic sync' in iTunes preferences

iPhone 4 just restored to deal with memory issue, and after restore, it starts to sync automatically when I connect it to my laptop (OS X 10.9.5, iTunes 11.4) despite checking 'Prevent iDevices from syncing automatically' in iTunes preferences.
iTunes summary screen for the phone, under options, shows a grayed-out 'Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected' phrase, with no box to deselected to fix it.
Any idea what is going on?

This one was odd:  it stopped after the first sync was finally completed--had to interrupt several times to use the phone away from the computer before all the music and photos were fully reloaded.  Now it waits appropriately for next sync.  This is probably why no one else had seen this or replied.

  • Cannot sync iPod after hard drive crash

Hard drive crashed last week so reinstalled new from Dell. Data all backed up. Since new drive in cannot sync iPod. USB cable OK, iTunes "sees" iPod name and can download to iTunes but no sync. Do not get any kind of error msg that iPod registered on "another" computer (which it was). Still under warranty.

Try restoring the iPod in itunes. This should assure that it sync with the current computer it's hooked up to.

  • Syncing ipod after hard drive repair

I recently had a major problem with my computer and had to have a new hard drive installed, losing itunes in the process. I have downloaded the itunes software but when I insert my ipod, hoping to transfer the files on it to my itunes library, I get the message "This ipod is synced with another itunes library". Is there a way around this or another way to import the files on my ipod into my itunes library?

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Itunes not recognizing my ipod after restoring it

My ipod decided to go crazy on me, so I followed the 5 r's. After restoring the ipod it is no longer being recognized. I have restarted my computer, downloaded the latest software, used different usb ports but to no avail.
There is no icon in devices that pops up. When i run a diagnostic is states that an ipod is connected.
    Any helps?

    Hi Jim,
Thank you for your reply to my posting about iTunes not recognizing my iPod Touch after upgrading to Leopard.
iPods & Finder. Some other postings incorrectly lead me to believe that the iPod would show up in the "Finder". Thanks for setting me straight on this.
iTunes Not Recognizing iPod Touch. Prior to your posting, I had already read the article you referenced (to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service per article "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747").
Prior to your posting, I had also read other articles in various "Apple Discussions" (forums) that suggested this recognition problem could be resolved by uninstalling/re-installing iTunes 8.0.2. Some implied that you could just re-install iTunes 8.0.2 right over the currently installed one without bothering to uninstall it.
Based on those postings, I "gambled" last night and simply downloaded and re-installed iTunes 8.0.2 (without uninstalling it first). I noticed during the installation that the Apple Mobile Device agent you referenced was also re-installed. Well, my gamble paid off! After the installation (and a reboot?), iTunes onces again RECOGNIZED my iPod Touch.

  • Reloading iTunes after restoring computer

I just had to restore my HP laptop (vista) after replacing the motherboard, HD, etc.
I'm trying to reload my iTunes, but it looks like I only had about half of my music saved on my external harddrive.  Is there a way to reload it from my ipod touch?  I read on another Apple support page that you can set it up to manually move music, or a thrid party program.
Since the touch isn't harddrive based, is it even possible?
    Thanks!

  • Apps won't sync back after restore.

I was actually asking about this yesterday. I actually just got my music back but how do I get my apps back? I restored my ipod last night. I got my songs back like 5 minutes ago by clicking autofill. I've hit Sync iPod a few times but after 5 seconds it says, "Sync Complete". What should I do to get all my apps back.
I actually have about 3 on my ipod that were on after the restore finished.

Are the apps in your library?
Is the iPod signed into the account that purchased the apps?
Do you have the apps checked to sync to your iPod?
Do you have Restrictions set that would prohibit installing apps? (Settings>General>Restrictions).

  • Old computer crashed and cannot sync ipod to new computer?

My old computer crashed and now i got a new computer. I can download songs from itunes with my appleID but they wont sync to my ipod?! I tried following the troubleshoot for authorizing a new computer and it says it is now authorized. I also use to use home sharing for my and my mom's computers. I deauthorized all computers and then tried re authourizing this one but still no luck. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Im leaving for vacation Friday and would love to have all the songs I just purchased go onto my ipod! Thanks for any help!

    Hey missyt23
I would try restoring the iPod and then sync again. A thing to look for is to change settings for syncing music. For example change to manually manage music and drag the music to the iPod.

  • Capacity issue with syncing iPod to new computer

Trying to sync my 32 GB iPod Touch 4th Generation to my new laptop after updating my iTunes library.  Took all of my music from my old computer and added it to the new one through home sharing and added some new songs.  Have tried to sync my iPod now that all of the new music is on my new laptop, but I keep getting a message that I don't have enough free space.  However, the amount of music I'm trying to sync is actually less than the capacity of the iPot.  Is the sync trying to add the music libraries together somehow?  I thought it would erase what was on the iPod and replace it with the music on the iTunes library on my new laptop. The error message says: "The iPod cannot be synced because there is not enouch free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library." Any suggestions??

I dont have access to my old computer (ex boyfriend's)to be able to sync my ipod with my new computer. Is there any way around having to go to my old itunes library to be able to get this to work? Thanks a million

  • Trouble Syncing Ipod After reinstall of windows

Hi, I just recently re-installed my windows and now im having problems syncing my ipod. I connect my ipod to the computer, Itunes recognizes it and brings it up into devices but will not transfer the music that i have placed in my library. I have authorized this computer and and taken my purchased songs off my ipod and put them back on my hard drive. Consider everything a fresh install, including itunes. I have some of the old library on an external hard drive. And im using a 80g Ipod classic. PLease help i dont know what to do and i have songs i want to listen to badly waiting to be sync'd!!

    Hey there,
Since you recently did a fresh install of your computer, your iPod no longer recognizes the new installation of iTunes library and associates itself with the old library. I would recommend just start starting from scratch with an empty library and transferring everything from iPod to the new library. Once you have done that you can erase and sync your iPod with the new library.
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes.
There is a very direct method, which I personally prefer, but there are also numerous third party applications, which will help you accomplish the task as well. The link below provides terrific step-by-step instructions for the direct method as well as a few third party applications if you choose to go that route instead.
You can also do a simple google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
If you have any purchased from the iTunes store, it would be a good idea to sign in onto your account and authorize the new computer.
Also, when you plug it in, make sure to hit "Cancel" if it opens up iTunes and asks you if you would like to Transfer Purchses, or Erase and Sync.
    Hope this helps.
