Syncing ipod classic to new Macbook

I just got a new Macbook Pro and I'm trying to sync my iPod classic into iTunes. When I connect my ipod to the USB it does not show up in iTunes. It just shows up on my desktop. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get my ipod on iTunes? Thanks!

My motherboard went out on my laptop where my itunes account was based. If I purchase a new laptop, will my IPOD Classic sync with the new laptop or will I lose all my music and data? Desperate working on dissertation...interview is on IPOD.

  • Will lightning connector sync ipod classic to new macbook air

I am using 30 pin usb 1 connector with 5th grn ipod classic to sync with new macbook air, but computer rejects ipod connection with explanation usb 1 does not sufficient power to sync wih macbook. thanks in advance

Thanks. You are right, I was following the wrong trail. The problem was not with the connector but with the disorganized state of my music files, with duplicate and overlapping files of the same name, etc., following a move of the files to an external hard drive, and  the the acquisition of a new MacBook Air. No wonder the iPod didn't know what to connect to. But both answers clarified my thinking. It won't be a quick fix, but hopefully it will be a success one.

  • Syncing Ipod Touch to new MacBook Pro

I have just purchased this MacBook and am trying to sync my Ipod Touch. The Itunes software did not see the Ipod, so following online instructions, I reset my iPod to New status. The Itunes program still does not "see" the ipod. The ipod meanwhile is asking to connect to Itunes in order to sync. When changing computers I "migrated' the HD data from my previous computer. What can I do ??

Make sure Apple Mobile Device Service is installed and try to connect in recovery mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Did you use Time Machine to back up your Mac or do you still have access to your last backup? If yes, copy the iTunes ipod backup folder to your new Macbook and restore your ipod from that backup.

  • Sync ipod classic with new HD

I replaced HD on MBP and upgraded to itunes 11.  I have two ipod classics and an iphone 4s.  When i connect ipods they get recognized show in sidebar and do a real quick sync, but don't add any of the music i just put in itunes yesterday (that's how I know they aren't syncing).  I moved my old library form HD into new MBP and that works fine.  I also can't manually drag files into ipods in sidebar.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

did restore on both classics and it worked...

  • Sync ipod classic with new pc computer

Hello to all.  I am new to this forum and so please excuse me if I am asking a question, which I am sure I am, that has already been answered.  I have an Ipod classic that has quite a lot of music on it.  My old computer that I was syncing to has crashed and I had to buy a new computer.  I am able to download the new Itunes, and get my music that I have purchased, but want my old ipod to sync with the new computer, which is a PC (Dell).  What to do?  Thanks.

all I can say is good luck. I bought a new iPod classic and then a couple weeks later did what you did : I bought a Mac. Would I have known the issues I'd never have done it. I cannot get new purchases from iTunes to move to my iPod. I was able to get some, not all, of my files to move to the Mac, but I'm greatly disappointed that I don't have ALL of my items, purchased from iTunes or not. It makes me wonder why I shelled out almost 3 grand for the iPod and the Mac , with the reasonable expectation that the transition would be seamless and even intuitive. Nope. So, I have two iPods and none of them will acquire new iTunes purchases. Good luck! Let me know if you have more success than I have!

  • How do I sync ipod classic to new windows 8 computer?

I want to sync my ipod classic to a new laptop, operating on Windows 8. My existing itunes account is on my old, very slow desktop computer. On there, is my current music library.
    1) Please could someone tell me, how to sync my ipod to my new computer, in simple terms if at all possible!
    2) If I manage this, can I copy my itunes music library to my new computer?
    Thank you in anticipation!

You need to copy your entire iTunes folder to the new computer from the old one. Otherwise you could lose some of your content.

  • Sync ipod classic with new imac

My ipod classic itunes library is on my old toshiba laptop, I bought a new mac but when I try to sync from ipod to imac it wipes the music off the ipod - how do i sync without losing music? I have been told I have to create an icloud account on the old toshiba, but do i have to pay for this? there is a lot of music on the ipod.

    Hello JulliJM,
It sounds like your iPod Classis has been syncing to your old portable, and you want to sync it to your new iMac but dont want to lose the information in it. The iPod can only sync to 1 library at a time unless set up to manually sync content. The following article will help you do that named:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
When manually managing content, you can add content from multiple libraries to your iPod or iPad. Even when manually managing music, some content may be available from only one library at time. This includes all content on iPhone and video content on iPod and iPad.
If you are going to sync from the iMac from now on, you can also copy your entire iTunes library to your iMac with this article:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
Then when you sync it to your iPod again, yes it will prompt you that it will erase the stuff on it, but you can set up the sync options just like you have on your portable computer, to get your stuff back.

  • Can't sync ipod classic to new library

Hi, I have two ipods, an older 30gb and a newer 160gb. I only had one library, which I have synced my 160gb ipod to. I created another library because the original is too big for the 30gb ipod. When I go into this new library it, for some unknown reason, has about 3gb of my music in it. Anyway, if I try to sync the 30gb ipod with it nothing happens. The ipod is recognised, it seems like it is syncing for a few seconds then it tells me it is synced. However, there is nothing on it. The 30gb ipod is empty having restored it. It tells me the ipod software is up to date. Any ideas?

You can try another usb port, 30-pin cord, or restart computer. you can also sync seleted music using your other library.

  • I have an Ipod classic sync'd to a PC. The PC is no longer working. I purchased a new MacBook pro. How can I sync the Ipod to the new Macbook pro

I have an Ipod classic sync'd to a PC. The PC is no longer working. I purchased a new MacBook pro. How can I sync the Ipod to the new Macbook pro

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the Mac as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your Mac first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • Will I lose my Calendar and Addresses if I sync my iPod with a new macbook?

I just had to get a new hard disk and want to put my Cal and Addresses back on it. I can find lots of information about transferring my photos and music, but will I lose my Calendar and Addresses if I sync my iPod with a new macbook?

Before you sync, make at least one entry in your computer's Address Book and one iCal event (a fake entry will do). That will generate a "merge" prompt. Otherwise, the empty address book and calendar will overwrite what you have on your iPod.

iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - just media purchased from iTunes Store
i-devices are intended to by synced with iTunes (iTunes --> device), not transfer things to iTunes.  For transferring songs from i-device to computer see commercial software utilities (with the exception of iTunes purchases). • I want to use my iPod Classic with my MacBook Pro, I am using it on my G5

I have me iPod Classic, on my G5. This is where all the content on the iPod is from. I want to be able to connect my iPod Classic to my MacBook Pro and be able to have the iPod show up, on the devices list where I could access all my music, playlists and podcasts. Where can I find information on how to do this?
Thanks in advance for reading and replying to my post.

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Connecting ipod classic to new iPad (4th generation)?

Which adapter connects older ipod classic to new iPad (4th generation)?

The "connection" for the iPod needs to go through iTunes on a computer.  You cannot connect your iPod directly to an iPad.
So (for example), if your intent is to transfer songs from iPad to iPod, you need to use the copy of the songs that are on the computer and use iTunes to sync them to the iPod.  If you can't do that because you bought the songs on the iPad from the iTunes Store, you can use the Purchased screen in iTunes (on the computer) to re-download them (at no cost) into your iTunes library.  The link to Purchased is on the iTunes Store Home screen, to the right, under QUICK LINKS.
You can then sync those songs to the iPod.
