Syncing ipod nano with 2nd computer

I have 2nd generation Nanoipod - can only sync purchased songs and not my playlists to a second computer - how do i transfer my music to different computers from my ipod??? software version 1.1.3
thanks

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod onto your computer. And here is a guide about how to transfer iPod music. Hope it helps.

  • Sync ipod nano with a new computer

My hard drive in my MacBook crashed and I now have a new computer. I am trying to sync my ipod nano with iTunes but i get a message stating that the content on my ipod will be replaced with the songs and playlists from my iTunes library (which is nothing). I want to get all my songs, playlists, from my ipod onto my computer. Help!!!

See if there are instructions for what you want to do in the iPod nano (5th generation) - User Guide, check Knowledge Base, iPod Nano Support or call U.S. iPod and Mac technical support: 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273).

  • Sync iPod Nano with iPad2

I bought my mom an iPad2 last year because she doesn't have a computer (WAY too complicated for her) and I recently gave her my old iPod Nano 5G. I was wondering if there is a way for her to sync the Nano with her iPad2. Anyone know?

No, not possible.  Nanda can only be synced with iTunes on a computer.

  • Syncing ipod nano with itunes

Having lost a lot of my music files from itunes because of computer failure and user error(!)I now have more songs on my ipod nano than appear in my itunes library. If I attempt to sync with itunes now, will it delete any songs in the ipod that are no longer showing in the itunes library/list? I would like to add a few new downloads from time to time but dont want to risk losing the existing contents of my ipod...? (Is there a command to prevent itunes deleting songs in my ipod?).

Just wanted to say - "thanks very much"- to Zevoneer, for such an informative and helpful reply to my recent posting: looks like its a full time job...!

  • Syncing Ipod Nano to new computer

I have a friend who has a Nano and iTunes and all her music is on her ex-husband's computer. She wants to basically start over... doesn't care if you she loses the music on the Nano. She doesn't even have iTunes on her computer. I will obviously need to install iTunes, but what else will I need to do to get her Nano to sync with her computer?

Install iTunes on her computer and add into it any songs she wants. Then connect the iPod. You will get a notice asking if you want to erase it and sync with the library on this computer. Click 'Erase and Sync'. All previous content will be erased and the new content loaded.
If she would like to retain the previous songs as well it's more complicated. See:

I've been able to sucessfully load all the songs on another computer to my ipod. So I know theres something wrong with itunes. In light of that, I removed Itunes and tried to download it again. The same window appears saying theres a error (-69)

  • Any problems in syncing iPod Touch with new computer?

My wife's iBook died and now I need to switch her to a newer computer. She had been syncing her iPod Touch with the old computer and she also has an iTunes account. During the down time she has been entering calendar data directly into the iPod Touch.
When I get her backup data into the new computer what kind of problems will we encounter? Will it correctly sync her calendars and contacts? Can she move or close her iTunes account from the new computer? Thanks.

Before you scrap the old one, go into iTunes and deauthorize the computer. When you get the new one set up and ready to go, go back into iTunes and authorize the new computer.
I'm not sure how you plan to transfer your library, but a portable hard drive or a big memory stick do work well. Don't forget to copy over the xml file as well as that will preserve your settings in iTunes.

  • Problem syncing ipod nano with itunes after external hard disc install

Since moving the itunes library (without a hitch) to a new external drive we have had a new problem which presumably is linked! When the ipod is plugged in all seems normal at first, the ipod syncs ok, then the system hangs at that point. itunes says "syncing ipod do not disconnect" (Even though the sync icon has vanished from next to the ipod on the itunes screen)likewise the ipod says "Do not disconnect". Windows then opens a "Autoplay" window which is obviously searching for files, with the torch graphic. This continues with the computer frozen. Cancelling the autoplay, leaves it saying "Cancelling" but it doesn't. Ctrl-alt-del is required to stop it, but that causes the computre to actually require a switch off. The fault is obviously with whatever is triggering the "Autoplay", but the ipod correctly lists as drive H, it doesn't seem to be a drive letter confusion. (Unfortunately it is impossible to learn which drive the autoplay is searching, and why, and what it can't find! Is there anybody that can help, as itunes is unuseable with ipod at present. I have tried completely removing and reinstalling itunes/Quick time with no effect!

Recently I transfered my entire iTunes library over to my external HDD
How and what exactly did you transfer?
and completed all of the necessary requirements to be able to play my music back from the new folder location (i.e. changed the location in iTunes preferences and consolidated everything etc)
This should been done before you transferred anything.
Now I have gone to sync my iPod Touch with iTunes and it keeps coming up with an error
What exactly is the error and when do you see it?

  • HT1296 One Ipod touch has a different Apple ID than the rest. We are unable to sync Ipod Touch with our computer to transfer music we already purchased. How can we get this music transfered?

How can I transfer music from our computer to an Ipod Touch with a different Apple ID?

Go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores and tap the Apple ID listed and sign out and sign in with other ID
You also may want to go to other places like:
    - Settings>iCloud
    - Settinge>FaceTime
    - Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and change the ID
It may be best to go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings and start over again and set up the iPod again with his account/ID

  • Syncing iPod Nano with Outlook 2003

Hi folks! I'm hoping someone here can help me. I have 2 8 gig 3rd generation nanos (mine and the wifes) which are way cool. I use to have a HP iPaq handheld which I used to play music and carry my scedule and contacts on. However ther is very little support for this old device and I went to the iPod thinking it wouls eassily sync to Outlook 2003 on my HP Vista machine. I worked at first although it woulds only sync select few appointments on my calendar but my contacts were initialy OK. I got it to function OK on both iPods as my wife and I need to know each other's scedules and we use the same contact list.
But recently I have been having issues with the sync as it routinely gives the error message: "iTunes failed to sync with Outlook calendars (or contacts) please log out of windows and log back in" When I log back on my calendar and contacts lus is gone on one of the iPods and will not sync back short on resetting the unit. So far the list will remain on my wifes unit but I am SOL. Anny advice would be appreciated

This isn't going to help but I want to add that my 3G Nano has similar issues. I use Outlook 2007 and it syncs just fine, no errors. Problem is that none of my contacts nor calendar items are sync'd. I have selected Outlook in iTunes CONTACTS tab as the source to sync from too.

  • Using iPod Nano with new computer

So I just got a new laptop and want to transfer all of my songs from my old computer to the new one. I hooked my iPod up to the new computer and it says it can only be authorized to one computer and I could sync and erase it. So I hit the button. Now my iPod has 0 songs or playlists on it. I tried following the steps online to transfer the songs from the old computer to the new one, but it didn't really work. Now I am stuck with an iPod with no songs...please help!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you want to use your iPod to transfer the songs to the new computer, you can check this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Or if you can connect your computers with a crossover network cable, you can directly transfer files, including songs, from your old computer to your new computer.
You may also considering getting some third party programs such as YamiPod to help in this task.

  • Synching existing iPod Nano with new computer

My old computer died and I need to install the iPod software onto a new machine. I heard that if you plug your iPod into a machine other than the intial one that you started with all songs will be lost.
How do I make sure that when I plug my existing iPod into my new machine NOTHING will be lost? The only place I have these songs are on my iPod and I don't want to lose everyting I have already paid for.
    Thanks

switch the preferences for updating to the iPod to manual instead of automatic
when u plug in the ipod and itunes launches it is going to ask you if you want to link the iPod to this itunes SELECT NO... if you select yes then your music will definately be erased from the ipod and your music will go bye bye.. after you do that go thru these options
.:ipod must be plugged in to go through these preferences:.
preferences> ipod> then select manual then hit ok to save the settings
unfortunately you cannot use the itunes to retrieve the music from the iPod back into itunes...
You can use Yamipod to transfer music from iPod to computer.
    Here's a link for Yamipod: http://www.yamipod.com.

  • Can I sync my ipod nano with my second computer/ netbook while travelling?

Looking for some advice on how to connect my IPod nano with my second computer while travelling. That's what happened: I have my iTunes library on my computer at home and can sync my IPod nano (6 th generation, replaced onyl recently) with that library. While I was travelling and wanted to use my IPod I received an error message asking me to connect the IPod with iTunes in order to recover/restore (sorry, the message apeared in German, so I do not know the exact wording in English) . As I only had my second computer - a small netbook - with me, I downloaded iTunes and connected the iPod - only to receive the message that this Ipod would sync with another computer (sure!) and would I want to sync it with this iTunes library instead now? (Of course not, I did not dare because that library was empty!). So there I was with my computer with iTunes library at home and an iPod stuck in recovery mode and not doing a thing during my vacation. Any suggestions? If I have to take my great big workstation with me to get the iPod running again, I might just as well leave the iPod immobile at home. (;-)

On your home computer connect your Nano, click on the name in iTunes, move right to the Summary tab then tick the box that says Manually Manage Music. You will now have to er, manually drag your music to your iPod, and manually eject it when done, but you will be able to add music from two different computers.
