Syncing iPod to Windows

I have done a lot of editing in the iPod in the Manual mode. Can I now transfer these edits to the Library? If I "Update myiPod", or select automatic updates in the iTunes iPod control window, will iTunes overwrite my edits with the original information that was in the library before my edits? Or does the updating replace both library and iPod data with the most current information, regardless of where the editing occurred?

Jerry,
If your using your ipod in manual mode when you connect back to your PC using automatic mode the content on your ipod will overwright your itunes library. If you have all your music on the ipod that won't be an issue for you, however if your itunes library is larger then those additional songs will be lost. You should keep the ipod in one mode, unless your connecting to multiple PC's. In that case the main PC should be set to automatic and the satellite PC's set to manual.

  • Syncing iPod with Windows

I am wondering if I am able to connect my configured MAC ipod with the windows itunes?

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. If the iPod is going to be used permanently on a PC or on both Windows and OS X then it would be best to restore and reformat the iPod in iTunes for Windows. Macs can read Windows drives so you can reload the songs from your Mac and use it on both platforms. Once it's restored for Windows any future software updates will have to be done on the PC to maintain the formatting. Alternatively there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance gets good reviews: XPlay 2iPod on Mac and Windows

  • Can't sync iPod on Windows "Can't find file" message

This is my umpteenth problem with iTunes since getting Vista. Can't resist sharing that.
Problem: I sync my iPod (bought it two years ago; audio and video, it downloads some of my music, shows the progress on the "bar", then it gets stuck on one song, will sit there for five minutes trying to download and then gives me the error message "Can't sync iPod. Can't find the necessary file" or words to that effect. I try ejecting my iPod and while my iTunes goes back to normal, my I have to wait for my iPod to run out of power before it returns to normal.
I uninstalled iTunes and downloaded it again and got the same result. However, the newly downloaded iTunes still kept my old play lists so maybe it was not completely downloaded even though it disappeared from my computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Itunes not syncing ipod in Windows 7

Recently upgraded to windows 7 and all was well until i opened up my itunes. I had added a few albums to my collection before i upgraded, and thought id sync them to my ipod. Itunes syncs around 100 songs and then freezes and the only way to unfreeze it, is to disconnect my ipod without ejecting it. While itunes is frooze, my ipod makes a lot of funny noises :\ This has only happend since i upgraded (starting to wish i never now). I've tried re-formatting my ipod, restoring it, re-installed the latest itunes and all to no avail. I've done my research and have even tried deleteing the song that itunes freezes on syncing, but it seems never ending.
Any help would be much appreciated, thx Aston

  • Trying to sync ipod using windows media

I have recently bought a new ipod nano and when i first plugged it in, it automatically added my songs from my windows media. After creating my itunes account, i cannot seem to retrieve any songs from my windows media. It worked the first time, but any new songs added to my media will not Sync. Any help would be appreciated.

I made a similar mistake when I bought my first iPod. I begrudgingly resigned myself to the fact that any and all synchronization with my iPod MUST be done with iTunes if I wanted to get the full functionality out of my iPod. My suggestion at this point would be to open iTunes, sync your iPod and then choose restore. It will take your iPod back to the way it was when you originally purchased it. Once this process is done, sync only with iTunes.
The problem here is the way iTunes stores the files versus the way Windows Media Player stores them. For iTunes, it creates a crazy file storage and naming structure. It also has several files containing such things as playlist and player content. Windows Media Player simply copies file and folder structures of the selected files. It essentially treats the player as if it were any other storage device. While easier for someone to just drag and drop new stuff to the player, the iPod doesn't recognize any of the copied files like other brands do.
A strange side-effect of the crazy naming structure is that if you drag and drop files to your iPod or use WMP sync, not only does the iPod not recognize them, they still take up room. So, your iPod can appear to be full to iTunes. This can be frustrating if you expect the iTunes sync to clear out any unwanted files. Windows Media Player will also not recognize and delete the files added by iTunes.

    Hi Cnoc,
Welcome to BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Just to clarify, how did you synchronize your Windows Live Contacts with your BlackBerry?
Windows Live is not a supported organizer to sync with using the Blackberry Desktop Software. This is why its not appearing as an option when you're setting up synchronization. http://bbry.lv/lZWDzG

  • ITunes displays -48 error message when syncing iPod Nano on Windows XP

My girlfriend's mom's iPod Nano ran out of charge while jogging so she decided to charge it on her daughter's iHome. The next day she went to use her iPod but it was totally empty of all music and files. When she tried to sync it to iTunes, she received an eror message stating, "An unknown error has occurred (-48)" from iTunes and a Windows message stating that some iPod folder/file was corrupted.
If anyone receives such a message, I was able to correct it by:
-Plugging in your iPod to your PC
    -Ignore the error messages
    -Go to My Computer
-Find your iPod's drive letter (ie. G:)
-Right-click on it and select Properties
-Go to Tools Tab >Error-checking and select Check Now
You should be able to sync your iPod as before. I do not claim to be an expert so be warned that it may not work for you. Good luck!

  • HT1351 Am having problems syncing iPod classic 160gb to iTunes within Windows 8. Can you help?

I bought my iPod Classic 160GB from new in April 2012.  For several months, I ran it through an older HP laptop running Windows XP home edition (service pack 3 I think?).  I did however, use a Toshiba external hard drive to store all CDs/podcasts/photos etc.  All worked very well and I put a fair amount of music (via CDs and podcasts) on the iPod via iTunes.  All worked successfully.  I changed computer earlier this year - another HP laptop but now running Windows 8.  I've downloaded the up to date edition of iTunes AND have also transferred all existing material/files from the same Toshiba external hard drive to the iTunes in my new computer.  (think I did this correctly?)  So far, so good.  I have placed some more music on the external hard drive and into iTunes and wanted to sync with my iPod.  I connect iPod to the computer.  It's recognised in iTunes as the window comes up showing iPod's serial number and settings etc etc.  The iPod screen shows 'sync' and the top of screen in iTunes also shows 'syncing' however, after a few seconds, this stops and the iPod screen shows 'OK to disconnect' without having transferred any of the new music onto the iPod.  Although all the existing music remains on the iPod (the stuff that was there before), the copule of new CDs hasn't been transferred over.  Can anyone help me solve this problem?  I hear that there are some problems at the moment syncing iPods within Windows 8.  Anybody else had this problem?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hello hindzee,
The acticle below goes over how to sync content to iPod Classics. The section titled "Syncing automatically" will most likely be the most helpful protion of that article for you.

  • Can't Sync ipod 80G Classic

I just burned several cds that I purchased new that, after importing, only show up in my iTunes in the Recently Added folder in Playlists.  They do not, however, show up in Albums or Artists.  As well, they do not sync to my iPod at all.  Also, the playlist sidebars in iTunes and my iPod no longer match (apart from the recently burned cds that don't show up, other playlist folders that still show on my iPod no longer show on my computer--not sure how long that has been a problem).  I have not tried importing cds into iTunes for awhile, but it was definitely before I installed the most recent update to iTunes (as of 11.13.13).  I tried uninstalling the most recent update and installing a version from a couple updates ago to see if thast would help but I was unable to install an older version for some reason. Any ideas?

See if anything in this article helps you.

  • HT2553 My ipod classic 160gb cannot be synced by my windows vista. the library is copied alright but cannot be synced into the ipod; HELP! !

My ipod classic 160gb cannot be synced by my windows vista computer. The library is copied alright, but the ipod cannot be synced; Help! How can I overcome this, please?

    Hi, Chris,
    I mean, when I load my itune library as usual and the syncing starts, I get the problem as described as follows;
When I try to sync, I see the songs being copied then I get a message, say after about 45minutes, that, itunes cannot read the ipod contents because the ipod data drive is corrupt. I have tried different things to no avail. It is very fraustrating, and if I may say so, very disturbing.
I hope somebody can help me, for I can see now that, many people have got similar problems and they haven't been able to solve. I understand this is a common ipod problem and many people have had to abandone their ipods after such problems. It is very hurting because ipods are very expensive to buy, and so to write it off like that is very dis-heartening.
