Syncing iPod without all files on the computer.

What happens when I sync my iPod without having all the songs that are on the iPod not on the computer? I'd like to add songs from CDs without having to copy to my hard drive. HD space is limited, but I'd like to load up my iPod Classic 60GB.
Thanks

You'll still have to import your CDs to iTunes and your computer or you'll not be able to put them on the iPod but you can delete them once that is done.
If you want to delete songs from iTunes and keep them on the iPod you need to change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos" (this setting isn't available for an iPod shuffle, you can't delete from iTunes and keep the songs on the shuffle). The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different, you can get details here:
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
iPod - Syncing Music
One major word of caution. If you delete songs or videos from your computer and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up anything you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD: How to back up your media in iTunes
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
Don't delete anything until you have changed the update option. If by any chance you do however you can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are connected the settings can be changed: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

  • Can I sync iPod without music files accessible?

I'm traveling with my laptop but not my external HD which stores almost all my music. (The original My Music folder exists on my C: drive with one or two files in it.) I know it's okay to boot up iTunes anyway, since podcasts update to the default original folder in that case. BUT I'm also wondering if it's safe to sync up to get those podcast updates on my iPod --- I don't want to have to click "OK" for every single one of 4000 files it might say it "can't locate", or, God forbid, have iTunes try to erase anything from the iPod! Is it safe to sync and let the new podcasts upload onto the iPod under the circumstances, or will I risk causing myself a huge problem??
    Thanks!

I know this won't be much assurance, because I can't guarantee it, but in my experience, files with next to them will result in an error in iTunes (the song "whatever" was not found, and won't be updated on the iPod), but if the file is already on the iPod it is not removed.

I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over.  Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over?  I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another.  Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

Then those are not the syncing computers. You can manage music among different computers.

  • Does allowing adobe flash player plug in on safari give access to websites the ability to upload and transfer documents and files(on the computer) without permission?

Does allowing adobe flash player plug in on safari give access to websites the ability to upload and transfer documents and files(on the computer) without permission? Perhaps to their online server or somewhere where they designated them to transfer to?

It depends a bit on which version of Captivate you used to develop your modules and also which version of Flash Player you targeted when publishing your modules from Captivate. Say for example you use Captivate 5 and publish to Flash Player 10. Then your end user would need to have Flash Player 10 on their computer. It shouldn't matter if their version is 10.0.0 or 10.1.0 or 10.1.3 - just as long as it's a 10. If they only have Flash Player 9 then they will need to upgrade.
The "Access to Adobe.com is restricted" is most likely because the HTML that launches the Captivate SWF sees that you have targeted FP10 and the user only have FP9. Then it tries to direct a call to Adobe in order to present an "Upgrade to latest version of Flash" dialog for the user. This traffic is most likely denied by your IT department.
The first step is to find out which version of Flash Player is the most prevalent in your organization. If it is Flash Player 9 then simply select that when publishing from Captivate 5. If Flash Player 8 is the most used in your organization and you have CP5 or CP5.5 then you are in big trouble since FP8 is not supported from CP5 and CP5.5.

  • Unlock an iPad without connecting it to the computer

I work for a tutoring company that uses the ipad for the tutoring program. One of our students secretly set a passcode on the ipad, the teacher did not find out until the next tutoring session when she went to use it.
Because our ipads come from the corporate site in another state, we do not have access to the computer these ipads were synced on. We don't have iTUnes on our computers here in our center.
Is there a way to unlock this ipad without connecting it to the computer and using iTunes?

  • A Friend Was Working On My Mac Pro And Now Every File On The Computer Shows

A friend was using the Mac Pro to look at a disc, and he said he went into Terminal. Now, every file on the computer shows. He hasn't gotten back to me, and it's a little annoying, seeing ALL the faded envelopes with minus signs, and extra files. I hope this makes sense. I know he went into Terminal, and it had something to do with Finder and show all, or something. Any help is appreciated.

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and run the following:
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 0"
Click on the Finder in the Dock with the Control and Option keys held down and choose Relaunch. Some third-party utility software will also do this.

  • How can I reset my lock passcode without plugging it into the computer or restoring it or resetting any data?

I went I to my phone and I tried to unlock my passcode but it did not let me in, how can I reset my lock passcode without plugging it onto the computer on iTunes, or restoring it or deleting any data ?

You don't. The only way to remove the passcode if forgotten is to restore the device. If you have a backup, you can restore to that last backup, but anything done since that last backup would be lost.Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

  • HT201250 I'm using Time Machine. Its Full. Deleting older backups as it goes. My desktop Mini is full. I want to delete all files on my computer. How will this affect Time Machine?

I'm really wanting to make room on my Mac Mini. I have about 70 gb left.  I'm not sure what to do. I'm using Time Machine to regularly backup my computer and its already full and deleting older backups.  I used to, in the past before Time Machine, just drag and drop files into an external hard drive and empty the file from my computer.  Should I follow a similar procedure here? If I have time machine backup up, and I remove all my files from the computer, will Time Machine begin to backup a "clean" machine onto the external drive and begin deleting past backups? What would be the best way to approach my backups, remove all my files from my computer since a variation of them are already on time machine, and not lose viable backups? Thank you.

If you erase the hard disk and you install a new Mac OS X copy, Time Machine will start a new backup and will stop using all backups you made in the past.
One option you have is to reinstall Mac OS X and restore a Time Machine backup, but restoring only some files: for example, instead of restoring everything, restore only your user files, and not your applications, so you will have more free space. Also, doing this, Time Machine will continue backing up to your old backup, because Time Machine will detect that you have "the same computer with the same files and the same Mac OS X version", but it's not.
If you have more questions about Time Machine, see this site > http://pondini.org

  • I just cut and pasted photos from the phone into my HP and now I can't open the files in the computer.

I just cut and pasted photos from my Iphone into my HP.
NOw when I go and try to open the files from the computer it's giving me an error:
    INVALID IMAGE
The file format is not supported or is invalid
WHat's confusing is that all files copy into my computer are already JPG. I have not changed anything, simply cut photos from my phone and copy them in my computer.
I need help !!! I have a lot of my baby photos and videos that I really want to recover.
    PLEASE !
    thank you

Try using a photo import utility or application for this instead of doing it the archaic manual way. Even Windoze includes a scanner and camera wizard that can be used for this.
