"Syncing"= Is Ipod really supposed to erase all the music I've stored?

Is the Ipod really supposed to erase all the music I've stored? It seems that synching is just a euphemism for "erase all your music"? I use 2 different computers (different states) and I can't figure out how to keep it from erasing everything I've worked to store. Am I just missing the "Please don't erase all my music" box? And shouldn't I be able to transfer music I've loaded on a different "authorized" computer to another one?
thank you for any guidance.

Click here and follow the instructions; the iPod shuffle can only contain content from one iTunes library at a time.

iTunes is a mess! It couldn't find it's own libraries and I was forced to create a new one. Now I don't know where my music is or if any's missing.

    How crap is that?
    It's not crap at all.
It's not that simple. For example, I've 3500 songs on my MacBook but don't want them all on my phone, so I have to manually select each song again???
There has to be a solution.
Why not simply make a playlist with the songs you want on the iPhone?
and maintain a current backup of your computer.

  • My Macbook drive was replaced. If I sync my IPod Touch I'll lose all the old data on my IPod. Can I restore my iPod data to my computer?

My Macbook drive was replaced. If I sync my IPod Touch I'll lose all the old data on my IPod. What do you do when you buy a new computer or have a new hard drive?  Can I restore my iPod data to my computer?

See this article for details: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
    Or do this:
Make sure your Mac is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your MacBook.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • How do I erase all the music off my iphone?

How do I erase all the music off my iphone? The album artwork that's in my phone, doesn't match what's in my itunes. I've synced, but it still is all screwed up.

in itunes - select your device name - click music tab - select sync music - select selected playlists, albumns, artists, - just click one song or artist or album not playlist.  hit apply
no see if ok if so re sync what you want/
    if not
erase all content and start anew

  • HT1351 My ipod Classic is not showing all the music from iCloud.

My ipod Classic is not showing all the music from iCloud. I have "show music" enabled.

Glad 7.7.1 worked for you, I updated itunes on my macbook, and every time i try to sync the music to my ipod classic, it goes for 23 songs and then it freezes and I get "Cannot read or write to this disk", and it ejects it. I tried uninstalling itunes, reinstalling an earlier version (7.6.2) same problem, plus a new issue with itunes. (It was a clean uninstall, btw, I got everything cleaned out, I think, lol). Video's transfer fine. And no good way to get ahold of apple. That's great. If I have no music on my ipod, it's useless. Think they'll give me my money back? (lol)

If you're syncing with a different iTunes library than the one you previously synced with, then there is no way around it. You're gonna loose the old data. The only way round it would be to make sure that all the music files on your iPhone is also in your iTunes library. If you still have access to the computer with the old library, you could copy the files on to an external harddrive, and then import them into your new iTunes library.
If it is in fact the same library, then the music currently on your iphone, is also in your itunes library. Just make sure that the artists/albums/playlists, or whatever you sync contains these tracks, that you allready have on your phone and don't want deleted. What i do is, i create a playlist specifically for my iPhone, and i set it up to only sync with this playlist. Whenever i hear a track from my iTunes library or buy a new track that i want on my phone, i just drag it to this playlist and next time i synchronize, it's there without deleting anything else.

  • I have an itunes account on my PC and I would like to transfer my music to my Mac, because I am getting rid of my PC. How do I do that? When I plug my ipod into my Mac it says to sync to the Mac which will erase all the music on my ipod.

I have music on my PC that I would like to transfer to my Mac. I am getting rid of my PC and don't want to lose all the music on it. I was wondering if there is a way to sync the music on old computer to my new computer. I tried to sync my Ipod and Ipad to the Mac but because it is a new Itunes it was going to erase everything on my Ipod and Ipad. How do i avoid losing all music and apps on both of my devices?

Copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
Type "move itunes library from pc to mac" or similar into the google search bar.

  • I accidently erased all the music from my iPod and it isn't in my iTunes because I just got a new computer.

I was trying to transfer the music from my iPod to my new iTunes via a third party program, and I ended up erasing all of the music from my iPod.  I am unable to get onto the iTunes on my old computer, where all my music was stored, and the iTunes on my new computer, of course, has nothing in it.  So now I have no music on either my iPod or iTunes.  At this point, I don't really care about the things I didn't purchase from iTunes.  I'm just wondering if there is any way to get all the music back that I've purchased from iTunes in the past without having to purchase it again, other than by downloading it.

You don't have to purchase it again, but you do have to download it.  See Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

  • Is there a simpler way of erasing all the music from my iphone other than erasing all data and content?

Having issues with the music player on my iphone 5, i have restored it but want to erase all my music off my iphone and start again from scratch, how do i do this without erasing all the content off my phone?

Launch iTunes and plug you device into your computer. Select your device from the menu on the left and then in the window that opens select the Music Tab at the top. In the window that opens uncheck the Sync Music checkbox and then click Sync button in the low right side of iTunes. After the sync is complete your music will no longer be on the device.
    Hope that helps.

  • ITunes 7.0 erased deleted all the music on my ipod

I can't find a way to ask this directly to iTunes since there is no contact email or phone, and I can't find it addressed in their support pages so I am trying to address it here. WHY does upgrading to iTunes 7.0 erase all the music on the ipod without any warning?
It is not limited to a certain operating system, or type of iPod.
I am one of the many people who encountered this:
    http://www.twistermc.com/blog/2006/09/12/itunes-7-erased-my-ipod
    http://www.iprong.com/article.php?id=1973
    http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/wwdnbackup/2006/09/itunes7_ateal.html
If you read these posts, we are not newbies - we know how to synch, update, backup, etc.
Why does it happen, how can it be avoided?

    Hey T Smith,
Just upgrading to the newest version of iTunes(7.1) should not change the contents of the iPod in any way.
If you are changing the way the iPod is updated or updating with another computer that may erase the contents of the iPod. Before anything is erased from the iPod you will see a message like described in article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61675 .
You can always leave the iPod in a Manual Mode which will not erase anything from the iPod but let you update the iPod with multiple computers.
You can leave feedback for the iTunes application online here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • I need to get the music off my Ipod Nano 2nd GEN onto either ITunes or in a music foldes on my new computer. Not all the music was purchased from Apple Itunes HOW DO I DO THIS WITHOUT LOOSING ALL MY MUSIC??

I have not had a computer for several years and I just got a new one. My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. Thank goodness I had it all on my Ipod Nano 2nd GEN. Now my problem is that I don't know how to get the music off my Ipod Nano onto my new computer!!! I was able to get the songs that I purchased thru ITunes by just authorizing my new computer. But I have alot more music that is on my Ipod nano that I can't put into my ITunes library. In fact, I can't even get my music into a file folder on my computer!! I really need help. I don't have any copies of the music anywhere else and some of it is hard to get. How do I get my music either into ITunes or into a file folder on my new computer or even if I could get my computer to recognize my Ipod and sync all the music into windows media or something like that. Every time I connect my IPod all that happens is that it tells me if I sync the IPod that it will replace all the music from my ITunes library on to my IPod. And I am guessing that means all my music on the IPod will be erased. PLEASE HELP ME!!!! Thanks from the bottom of my songsters heart

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.
