Syncing Issue / Music becoming inacticve

Each time I sync my ipad music is made inactive. The music has previously been available to play.  However now when I select music, the songs grey and a red circle and square appear. Each sync causes more music to become inactive. Please help!

I am syncing through my computer, and the issue is still ocurring.  My apologies; I didn't think to include that in my original message.

  • IOS5/Itunes 5 sync issues - music greyed out, not syncing across

    Hello,
I am having issues syncing music from iTunes to my iphone and ipad. I use autofill, but have had the same issue when using the sync all music option. All the files are listed in the music tab under the device, but half are greyed out and unplayable on the device (they are greyed out on the device too). There is a sync icon next to the files, but clicking on it does nothing.... I did a clean restore to ios5 and it copied my apps over, but none of my music, pictures etc. This is really annoying can anyone help?

    Itunes 5

I have been fighting this problem with both my iPhone, my partner's, and my nephew's. It seems to have something to do with music purchased in iTunes vs. music that is ripped, since all my ripped music transfers fine and stays put.
On the other hand, downloaded content shows up doubled (one black, one grey) when I look at my music through the iTunes, just like that screen cap. As long as there's a "black copy" showing, it plays fine on my iPhone 4s, but I find I have to remove the greyed out copies manually and then manually transfer from my iTunes library or from the purchased option on the phone itself. In other words, if the music on the phone in only greyed out copies, and it's not on the phone, it doesn't transfer manually unless I first delete the greyed out versions. -- And then the greyed out versions magically reappear after it contacts the cloud and backs up.
I also sometimes end up with doubled copies, and my albums don't all sort the way they should -- so for example some Diane Schuur shows up under the artist name, and some shows up under albums. To put it all together I had to make a playlist, which is stupid.
Finally, there are some 46 items it tries to sync everytime I do any wi fi syncing of anything with my phone. I have no idea what that is.
I'm tempted to wipe and let all iTunes content be restored from the iCloud, a process that would require an overnight restore. I'm guessing that might solve the problem, but why should it all be this hard? Does Apple look at these comments, because I notice there are several different threads on this site concerning the music app and the iTunes/syncing issue?

  • Myriad iTunes sync issues - song cutoffs - artwork problems - yeech!

    Hi all,
I’m running the latest version of iTunes on a (late 2013) Macbook Pro Retina laptop, and having several different flavors of syncing issues with my two devices –  a 16 gb iPhone 4S running iOS 7.1, and a 32 gb iPod Touch 3rd Gen running iOS 5.1.1.
As best I can tell, some syncing issues such as one of the ones I am experiencing (songs chopped-off when transferred and attempted to playback from the device) have existed in some way, shape or form for nearly 10 years now, so I’m not expecting any grand revelations here - but just looking for some honest advice on how to resolve in the shortest amount of time & with the least pain considering I have a fairly large music library in terms of syncing time required.  That being said, below bulleted-out are my current issues / frustrations / thoughts on where the problems may lie.   I would appreciate any advice:
Purchased iTunes songs (ripped MP3’s from CD’s that I own and tracks from other sources do not seem to have the problem…) play fine in iTunes on my laptop, but when transferred to either my iPhone or iPod, they will randomly (it’s not every track) be cutoff near the end of the song.  Sometimes the song will stop with 2 minutes remaining and go silent. Sometimes it will stop with 15 seconds remaining and go silent.  Sometimes it will stop somewhere in that time range and start the next track on the album while still displaying the info from the previous track.  The only solution I have found to this for purchased content thus far is to wipe everything out, and go back and download the tracks from the cloud.  I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 tracks that fall into this category, so my options to download directly to the device an artist at a time are kind of time-consuming and cumbersome.  Would this have something to do with the file format of purchased tracks vs. ripped ones? I have a lot of older ripped material that was imported as MP3’s or MP3’s converted to M4A’s that never seems to have this problem.  The newer purchased files are mostly ACC’s which DO have the problem.   Also would this have anything to do with the fact that my library (including most of the purchased content) was recently moved over and imported to a new Macbook from a Windows backup?  Most of my iTunes library was Windows / PC for the majority of its existence for the past decade or so; we only recently switched back to Mac.
Discrepancies between deleting material on a device vs. what iTunes recognizes when it is plugged back in:  The other day, being frustrated with the random song chopping, I deleted everything on my iPod Touch 3rd Gen by going into Settings, Options, General, and “Usage” and then “Edit” and selecting to wipe out everything in iTunes. The device appeared to do this, and I was showing 28 gb or so free out of 32 once it completed.  Great, right?  I proceeded the rest of that day to painstakingly download approx. 900 tracks from the cloud onto the device, hoping to correct the chopping issue.  It did this, and I still had roughly 10 gb free. Great, right?  Later that night when I plugged the iPod into my Macbook with the 30 pin to sync, iTunes on the laptop for some reason still recognized the songs which I thought I had deleted hours earlier and showed me multiple copies of everything.  For the ones that had been deleted, when I clicked to play them on the iPod through iTunes, I got the little gray exclamation point - ! – in a circle like when a track has moved libraries and cannot be found.  iTunes then told me my sync could not be completed due to being over capacity on the device by a ridiculous 12 gb or something like that. Huh?? I could have gone through and manually deleted the (by that point more than 1000) duplicate tracks and synced to have made room I suppose – but after accidentally hitting Autofill – iTunes threw up its hands and would not let me do anything further.  Any attempts at that point to delete either pending Autofill tracks or missing duplicate tracks just led to endless spinning on the “Preparing Update” notice on the device which led to me having to kill iTunes.  Can you say big-time frustration?  I eventually opted to restore the iPod to factory (iOS 5.1.1) settings and start over.  That device is currently at home slogging through the process of attempting to re-download 400 some songs from the cloud over wi-fi so that I can avoid the cutoff track problem.  The plan after that is to sync playlists for certain artists over top of the purchased tracks so that my ripped tracks can merge with them to round out the playlist. Do you see how this is beginning to become a marathon?
Last but not least - it seems to be just since the last few iTunes upgrades for Mac, but I’m having a huge problem suddenly with album artwork staying synced properly. After one recent manual transfer session (30 pin between the iPhone and the Macbook) roughly half of the tracks I transferred had mismatched artwork.  Doing this through the cloud (downloading tracks “Not on this iPhone” via the iTunes app) doesn’t seem to have the same problem, but of course this takes longer. Also, what is the deal with “Show All Music” in iOS 7 and playing tracks from the cloud?  This is a really cool feature that allows you to save a ton of disk space on your device, but I have found that when I do this that many tracks have mismatched artwork.  For example right now I’m listening to a Grateful Dead song that is displaying Genesis artwork.  Huh?? Artwork is less of a big deal than the track lengths being chopped off, but it’s still annoying.
iTunes revolutionized the music industry and on the whole has been fantastic.  But it seems as if lately, little irritating problems like the syncing issues are becoming more and not less prevalent, and the problem is they aren't being dealt with.  I got my first Mac in college nearly 20 years ago now, and have been generally entrhalled with Apple products ever since.  But I have to say that this kind of junk lately is more what I would expect in the vein of problems from the shoddy-PC world that seem to linger and never get fixed.  Cupertino folks - what's the deal???

You're not the only one judging by the forums!
Likewise I have been using Apples since the Apple IIe(!) and have found them great in every respect. iTunes however over the past couple of years has deteriorated to th point of being unuseable. Apple has made iTunes the hub of your digital life and so it really has to work seemlessly.
I currently have had to completely wipe and re-install my 64Gb iPhone 4s several times to get my music back on to it. I cannot het any playlists to sync which is really annoying and it generally undermines my faith in Apples software quality.
Please put whatever resources are necessary to fix this soon Apple or you will certainly start to haemorrhage customers to other platforms. After all if iTunes remains broken then what's the point of paying the extra for Apple qulaity? You may as well uplaod ebverything to Google play and be done with it!

  • IPhone 5S Music syncing issues after 8.0.2

    Hello,
I have been having irritating issues getting my iPhone 5S to sync my music library over after updating to 8.0.2.
I did a backup onto my laptop prior to updating, and went ahead with the new update. The first thing I noticed was after updating to 8.0.2 in order to sync again, iTunes prompted me that I was lacking 6GB of data on my phone to sync my library. I did not use my phone at all during the updating process so there's no way 6GB of data was magically written on it's storage drive. I could not figure out why in the world iTunes would tell me I needed to free up 6GB to sync the exact same music that was already there prior to. I went ahead and completely deleted my entire Music library from the phone, and tried to resync fresh. I still got the same message from iTunes. Believing in the program and going ahead and doing some spring cleaning, I ended up freeing a good amount of things off of my phone, applications, photos, messages, etc. to drop 6GB from the storage. I went ahead and synchronized my iPhone 5S with iTunes so I could get my music on my phone. It proceeded to go ahead and sync my roughly 1400 songs onto the iPhone. After it was complete, it showed I had an astounding 12GB of free space on my phone... I said to **** with it and just wanted to play my music. The phone seems to have all of my library that I chose to sync on my Music app. The problem is, when I go to play songs the music app will Skip over certain songs. I have not found any commonality between which songs it chooses to skip. It skips newly added songs, it skips old songs, it skips purchased songs, it skips songs downloaded from other sites. There seems to be no structure to which songs it's skipping. Another thing to note, whenever I connect my iPhone 5S to my iTunes and sync, I am Always able to sync something new onto the phone (around step 5 or 6 when it is completing the sync, it will mysteriously add some songs to the phone). Those songs are playable. Then I shuffle through my playlist, and Still the same problem remains, it has removed some songs and skips over them. It seems to Sync songs, and Delete songs... completely at random. This is bothering me and I'm not sure what to do, and am Very unsatisfied with the amount of bugs still left in the software. I wonder if others are having similar issues and maybe we can bring some light to this.
    Thank You,
    Andrew

Similar issue Andrew.  After installing 8.0, the IOS deleted 225 songs from one of my playlists, and I'm still "recalling"  songs that are no longer in my Music Library.  Fortunately, although the playlist of 235 had only 6 songs left on it ( on my  Mac), the Playlist was not erased from my I -Phone.  I was able to recreate the Playlist on my Mac, using the intact playlist on my phone.  When I synched however, I was back to square one.  I went to the Apple store, and I had to reset the phone .  We also downloaded IOS 8.02.  They saved my playlist in the Cloud, deleted it from my Mac, then synched it.  Lo and behold, the playlist I recreated on my Mac, synched to my I Phone.  After the reset, I had like 11GB of free space.  (Its been 5 days since the "reset" and the number of GBs fluctuates from day to day !!)
When I got home from the Apple store I spent after  hours reinstalling all the apps, synchng the phone to the Bluetooth in my car ( you know the rest of the saga) , I purchased a song from I Tunes.  I "drag and dropped" it into a Playlist, and synched.  Didn't work.  Song shows in "Recently Added", but the drag and drop feature doesn't work.  Bottom line,  I'm not willing to "reset" my phone every time I add a song !  I've tried any number of fixes posted to this support community, but none have worked for me.
Furthermore,  it took me 3 hours to get the phone re-synched to the Bluetooth system  in my car.  However every time I connect to "Bluetooth Audio", the system needs to "find" and "reconnect to" my phone.    If you ( or anyone else ) finds  something that might work for both the music synch and /or the Bluetooth, I'd appreciate your input.
    Thanks, Lorenzo

  • Music syncing issue after latest update

I'm having issues syncing my music on my iPhone 4 after this latest security update. Some of the files seem to be "stuck" on the phone. They won't remove, others just won't play, I can't add anything to the phone. Etc. SOS!!!

  • Unable to sync new music to iphone 5; existing songs are becoming unplayable

Ever since I downloaded iOS 7.0.3 I have been unable to sync new music to my iPhone 5. Now some existing songs in my music library on my phone have become unplayable. Red circles containing red squares have appeared next to those songs. If I choose a specific album to play, it will skip through every song without playing any of them & put those red circles/squares next to every song. Those songs can no longer be played on my phone, even though they look completely normal & play just fine in iTunes on my PC. Has anyone else run into this problem?

I've been trying to figure this out for the past couple days, but on my iPod touch 5. It seemed to happen for me after I updated to iOS 7.0.2 a few weeks ago. Have you tried the solutions that other people have posted on other discussions? Nothing else seemed to work for me except a full system restore. I'm in the process of my second restore right now. iTunes shows it's downloading the apps, but my problem was with the songs, so hopefully they work after all this... When I go into my music on my iPod touch, they all have the red circles next to them. I'm not sure if they're still downloading or not. It all started with not downloading a few albums to not downloading any of my songs.
If all doesn't work, I might have to try what this guy did(check link). Though I'd rather not lose all my plays and have to start over, but I'm not even sure that's going to work. If it's caused by a bug I surely hope Apple gets their act together and fixes it soon.

If you haven't yet, check the other discussions on this topic and see if any of them work. Good luck.

    Hi Ken,
Wow, I've logged into adobe and never seen your response until now.
I need to make the forums more of a daily stop I guess.
Thank you for your response, When I go to the Archives, it states I have none. In addition, previously when I'd tried to move items to the archive, they just disappeared
Currently my desktop is not connecting at all, Everytime I connect, it's states "We have now logged you out" and requests I login again.
    I have of course rebooted,
Gone into taskmanager, killed all the relevant threads,  tried again to login through the desktop, no luck, I'll have to uninstall it, make sure the threads are killed, then reboot it and then reinstall it, but I've not had the time to do that.
On another note, and just as a point of reference, myself, personally, I hate these "cloud" file repositories (not to be confused with adobe cloud services which I love) but the file repositories themselves imho, are a blackhole of resource usage when one doesn't/isn't using them,
Is there a way we can use it more of a "ftp" sort of thing, when I want to I can  put files there?  There is no way to "Download" the repository, no way to download the folders.. only individual files and then it takes I think three different steps before the download starts.. I find this very inhibiting.  Just an fyi. for what it's worth.
Please, feel free to contact me,

  • I am unable to sync new music. Reformatted I Pod now I can't sync old music either, either automatically or manually. Is it possible to download all music over again without being charged for it? I think the issue is I moved the location of my music

    I am una
le to sync any music from I tunes. The problem started when I could not download new music because for some reason I moved the location of the music. At least the e/m says I did. I don't remember doing that. I decided to reformat my I pod and now I can sync my old music either, manually or automatically. I was wondering if I can delete all my music from I tunes & start over with new downloads? Will I get charged again?

Ok, got new phone and it worked fine..at first. Now I am getting the same error. I also notice that the iphone goes from saying "sync in progress" to back to the home screen with the icons. And then I get the message "could not sync phone - device not connected"
I am getting seriously frustrated. The Apple tech support people have been ZERO help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes twice. I have even gone so far as doing a CLEAN install of OS X on my IMAC. Now I have the smae problems as before. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

  • Music sync issue

At the end of the sync Itunes says waiting for changes to be applied, anyway once its says this the music is no longer synced to the ipod. How can i sync my music to my ipod?

It's possible that the audio files that were supported on your PC are simply not supported on your Mac or iPhone.  For example, I found the following listed as the supported formats for iPhone 5:
"Audio formats supported: AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), HE-AAC, MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, 4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX, and AAX+), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV
    User-configurable maximum volume limit"
If you have music of other formats or codecs then you will need to convert them to a supported format first.
I hope this helps get you started.

  • I'm having issues with syncing my music.

Recently, I upgraded my computer to Windows 7, from Vista. I've recovered all my music, and ringtones from my old windows. Supposedly authorised my new Windows for syncing. I currently have 19 GBs of music on my phone, which I'm reducing to 16.2 GBs.. but everytime I go to sync my music. It keeps telling me that it requires 16.5 GBs, which means it's not erasing the music already on my phone..? It won't let me access its music through my computer or iTunes (via manual music adding or whatever it's called) .. I don't know how to clear the music. When it shows the summary, there's no music data, until I click the music tab where the 19 GBs show up again. Help??

With the device connected, if you select the music tab and have "Sync Music" checked, you must manage music from that tab.
If you do not want to manage music that way, uncheck the "Sync Music" option then on the Summary tab you must check the "manage media manually" option.

    Hey there,
Are you manually managing your Music or using your iPod as a storage drive?
I would try using Disk Utility to reformat the iPod and then restore it in iTunes and have your iPod set to automatically sync and see if that helps.

  • Syncing issues with music

When I sync my iphone to my mac I am getting a lot of music that I did not select, also any way to delete songs from the phone?

If these songs are truly syncing to your iPhone, check your sync settings carefully if you auto-sync to selected playlists or artists, etc.  For me, occasionally a random artist or album will be checked off to by synced even though I never put the check there -- I sync only to selected playlists.
If these songs have a little cloud next to them, you're looking at purchases you've made but have not synced to your iPhone.  If you don't want to see these, go to Settings/ Music/ Show All Music and turn that OFF (there is a parallel setting under "iTunes and App Store" where you can turn off un-synced iCloud Music and Video).
To remove songs from the iPhone, if you auto-sync then the best way is to check/ change your sync settings, otherwise manually deleting songs will have them put back on with your next sync.  But Jim is correct in how to delete them if you want to remove them between syncs, or if you manually manage music and video.

there's no music in my device (ipod touch) after restoring content because of a software issue. music is available in my laptop's cloud though. how do i restore music in my device?

hi! an error message showed on my device last week and Apple support  helped me restore the software on my device. Syncing went well and all my apps were available after. However, when I looked at my music in my device, it did not contain anything. The songs were in Itunes on my laptop and when I tried to play them they did not play. But, it says music is available for my account in the cloud. When I switched to the cloud, I was able to play my music already. But everytime I synced, the music from the cloud are not transferred to my device. Most of the music that I have are from other sources. How do I download those again to my device? I tried what I did before which was to copy the song from my laptop then edit paste it to iTunes but this did not work like before when automatically it becomes available on my device.
    pls help. thanks!
