Hi colgate009,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
The articles below may be able to help you with this issue.
I would suggest following the instructions to setup manual syncing, remove the playlist that you are having an issues with, and resync it.
This information is on page 61 of the iPhone User Guide
manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
Playlists
Clear or delete a playlist: Select the playlist, then tap Clear or Delete.
Delete a song from iPhone: In Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete.
The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

  • Two iPad/Match Playlist Issues

I am having a number of problems with Match, iTunes and my iPad.
For starters, I have iTunes and Match running on 3 computers (a Macbook Pro, a Macbook and a Mac Mini).  I also use Match with my music on an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2.
    My iPhone music is fine.
On my iPad, however, there are a couple of issues.
    1) Smart playlists, such as 100 Most Listened to Songs, and 50 Most Recent Purchases have thousands of songs in them, not the 100 or 50 that they should.  Those playlists are correct on all other computers and my iPhone
    2) Regular playlists have only a fraction of the songs that they should, and they appear to be changing the playlists on the other machines.  For example, a playlist that was created with 15 songs in it, and had 15 songs on all machines, only had 4 songs on the iPad (and this IS with All songs shown, taking into account they may or may not have been downloaded to the device).  And then, after I saw there were only 4 songs in the iPad playlist, I looked again at the other devices and those playlists were changed to only have 4 songs too.  The changes happened AFTER I looked at the playlists on the iPad.
All of my devices are running the latest versions on iTunes, OS 10 and iOS.
I know these are similar to some of the other Match/Playlist issues, but there are a few differences too.
    Any ideas?

For #1 - on your computer, right-click (or control-click) one of the songs that this is affecting, then choose "Get Info". Look on the "Info" tab. Is the "Part of a compilation" item checked? If it is, that will change how the song is categorized so it won't appear under the artist name. I've found that sometimes this is checked even on things like "Best of..." albums where the artist is always the same.
For #2, do the same thing, but this time look for any weird characters in the info - like maybe somehow a letter got entered into the "year" field, or you might see empty squares in the name field. Fix anything that looks odd, then sync again or update iTunes match, and see if you can open that artist on the ipad again.

  • Manual/auto sync itunes 5 issues - help?

    Hi,
I run a 3G ipod. At home and work I have windows xp desktops. I autosync to itunes at home to keep ratings and playcounts and smart playlists current... At work I hook up to the computer via manual sync to listen to music...
In itunes 4 I never had a problem, I'd come home, switch it to auto update and as long as I didn't change anything's ratings or edit id3 tags at work, all playcounts would update.
Now, it seems like 1/2 of the newly played songs update without a problem, half aren't recognized in the home library, they're taken off the ipod and reuploaded from the computer - the playcount does not acknowledge the times it was played at work.
I have upgraded both machines to itunes 5.1 and I have reformatted my ipod and reuploaded all my music and I still get this behavour -
    Has anyone else noticed this?
    is there a work around/fix
a lot of my smart playlists are based on ratings and playcounts, if the playcounts don't get synced my playlists... 'stagnate' - not too smart if you ask me.
    thanks
    puck

Okay ... if that particular registry entry isn't there, some different mechanism is in play.
We'd better try reregistering your Windows Installer service. It's a bit trickier on a 64-bit system than on a 32-bit system (because there's two versions of the installer that we need to attend to), but doable.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
If you have a 32-bit Vista or 7
    At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
If you have a 64-bit Vista or 7
    At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
    Both 32-bit and 64-bit Vista or 7
Restart the PC and try another iTunes install.

  • I can't sync my playlists from iTunes to my phone!

I can't sync my playlists! I've tried dragging the playlist to my phone and it says it's syncing but it's not appeared on my phone. I click on the drop down menu from the phone and it says that all the playlists are there, but they're not actually there. When I clicked on the music tab when you click on the phone if I click selected playlists then not all the music is on there but only the music that's on the playlists. This is really frustrating! The Apple Support page is absolutely rubbish, I don't want to call apple or go into the store to ask such a simple question! I'm desperate!

I have this issue too! However it only appeared yesterday.
I am a dance teacher and use my phone for all my class playlists. Earlier in the week I uploaded a couple of my Christmas class playlists fine, however last night I was unable to upload my list at all and ended up having to drag my laptop out with me in order to work!
I have tried turning both phone and laptop off, I have since loaded the lastest version of Ios 8.1.2 which doesn't appear to have done anything. And now I have seen a whole heap of issues in a similar vein encountered by other people.
I appreciate that I am using an old phone (iPhone 4s) but I had not changed anything prior to this issue appearing last night. I did encounter it briefly some months ago... and vaguely remember sorting it by checking the names of all the music styles that I wanted to have appear on my iPhone, but that seems a very long-winded way of ensuring that my playlists are updated.
Any tips would be much appreciated.

  • Syncing Nested Playlists

    Hi,
I used to manually manage my music on iPhone (8gb) but am now trying to use the syncing option in iTunes with iPhone.
Problem I am running into is that I have created a Smart Playlist that is Purchase High Rating - this contains 2 rules:-
    1. Playlist is Purchased
    2. Rating is greater than **
When I sync this playlist to my iPhone is syncs fine but it then puts a triangle with a question mark against the Playlist on the iPhone to say that there is a nested playlist missing i.e. my "Purchased" playlist is not synced to the iPhone.
I cannot sync the "Purchased" playlist because there is not enough space on the iPhone after syncing my "Purchased High Rating".
How do I just sync the rules of a playlist without actually syncing all the tracks in it also?

    DamenQ
thank you so much for this information. I can not tell you, how helpful your posting is.
I had exactly the same problem, and I did follow your instructions - and for the first time in almost 3 month (and after hours and hours spent on my computer to try to resolve this problem), I am able to utilize the full capacity of my 160 GB iPod Classic.
It is very unfortunate, that I am currently not able to utilize my Folders and Playlists (just like you, I have hundreds of them which are a huge part of the iPod Experience), but at one point, my iPod was no longer able to start up and got stuck in a 're-boot' loop. After removing my most complex smart playlists, the problem disappeared (I did not remove them from iTunes, but I no longer synch them to my iPod).
So again, thanks for posting this information, and thanks for contacting Apple. I really hope, that this issue will be resolved in the next Firmware release.
FYI for anybody else who might read this post : Using the Tinker Tool (free download) makes it very easy to monitor/view the hidden files on your iPod.

  • I can't sync my playlists with ipod classic or a new ipod touch.

I have been having problems with my iPod Classic in my car.  Colleague used his iphone with no issues. I reset my iPod classic to original factory settings but now when I sync my playlists with iTunes are not included.  Very strange.

I'm having the same problem with my 30GB U2 iPod. I used iSquint to convert my video, and it plays perfectly fine on my iTunes, but it just goes to a black screen when I try to play it on my iPod. The movie is in Mpeg-4 format, which is supposed to work on the iPod-- right?

  • ITunes not syncing selected playlists, choosing songs from all playlists

I have some smaller iPods that I use on random occasions. When I sync them, I choose the following options:
    Sync Music:
    Selected Playlists, artists, genres
    Music Videos - Not Checked
Automatically fill free space with songs - Checked
I have two playlists from which I wish a selection to be made, which exceeds the size of the iPod (they were designed for larger devices synced with this machine). When I attempt to Sync, I get a message saying that the iPod is too small, and would I like iTunes to automatically choose songs to sync. If I click no, the sync is canceled. If I click yes to have a subset of my two playlists automatically choosen, the ipod will sync, but then iTunes clears all of my selected playlists and starts syncing songs from all playlists.
This seems like a bug in iTunes to me, as it is not performing the requested options. Has anyone else experienced this, or know how to get it fixed? Or to get a bug report sent in to Apple? I have been going all over the place on their support page, and since this isn't an issue with the iPod, but with iTunes, I haven't been able to find a support avenue.

Suggestions here -> iTunes application feedback
iTunes not syncing selected playlists, choosing songs from all playlists
You have it selected to *sync selected playlists* and those playlists are not syncing to the iPod?
however this seems to be very counter-intuitive behavior for iTunes
It can be kind of confusing.
I suggest it's not a bug in that it is acting as it's supposed to.
The option (Fill free space) could be made clearer. Perhaps if they added "with songs at random from the entire library" or somehow added an option to select what the free space will be filled with.)
    1) The fact that iTunes it is not obeying the selected options on the screen
    Not supposed to do that.
If the playlists all fit and there is free space, what would iTunes use to fill the free space if it only used selected items?
    2) iTunes is allowing users construct an unhonorable set of choices out of four options. If "Selected playlists, artists and genres" is not compatible with "Automatically fill free space," then that option should be grayed out.
    It is compatible.
If there is free space after your selections are added, what should iTunes use to fill the free space? It shouldn't fill the free space with stuff already on the iPod.

  • IPhone syncing unchecked playlists

This has been posted numerous times, but the discussions are all archived. Plus, I think I have figured out what is causing this situation.
I have discovered that the issue with unchecked playlists syncing on the iPhone is caused by the weird fact that iPhone sync will add any/all playlist the items you have synced appear in.
In other words, if you have a song/video in "Smart Playlist A" as well as in "Smart Playlist B" and only set "Smart Playlist B" to sync, because the item is in both playlists, both will show up on your iPhone.
In yet other words, if you sync an item to the iPhone, any playlist that item appears in—even if that playlist is unchecked in the "Sync selected playlists only" section—will show up on your iPhone.
This is idiotic. I am hoping someone knows of a way around this.
I discovered it by adding some home videos to my iPhone, and after doing so a bunch of odd playlists showed up on the phone. They only contained the videos. By unchecking the video sync checkbox and running another sync, those extra playlists disappeared. I deduced what was happening after reading some archived posts on the discussion here.
Anyone know why this is happening? Or can people confirm that this is happening to others, and not just me? If someone can replicate my steps above and have the iPhone not sync those unchecked playlists, I would like to know about it.

I realize this is an old post, but in case you haven't solved this there is a workaround -- for all music-only smart playlists, add the criteria "Kind Does Not Contain Video" (use the "Kind" criteria, not "Video Kind"). You can still have smart playlists for your videos, and obviously you would leave that criteria out. Only the music smart playlists need this, and it seems to affect all iPods going back several iTunes revisions.

  • Songs Can't be Synced Because Playlists No Longer Exist?

Color me kind of stupid, but could you tell me why all music has disappeared from my Nano (second) and iTunes tells me, after I've connected, "Songs on the iPod "My Name's iPod" cannot be synced because all the playlists selected for synching no longer exist." What did I do? How do I fix it? My more than 1,000 songs remain listed in iTunes, and I am able to get my little Shuffle going just fine, but the Nano is empty. Please help! Thanks so much!

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod. If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • My ipod touch 2 no longer recognizes or syncs new playlists from my computer.  But it does takes the playlists from the ipod and syncs to the computer.  This is a reverse process - what am I doing wrong?  It always synced the correct way in the past.

Why doesn't my ipod touch 2 recognize or sync new playlists from my computer?  It did in the past, but now the syncing process goes in reverse; the
playlists on the ipod touch 2 sync to my computer!

Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Maybe a long shot, but WD is not known for the quality of some of their enclosures, although I do like the drives themselves. It may be worth mounting this drive in a different enclosure, something like one of OWC's FireWire enclosures with the highly reliable Oxford chip sets. I wouldn't be inclined to trust a WD enclosure, especially if it already seemed to be acting in a flakey manner.
Here's an example of what I mean:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEP924FW8E2O/
I have 3 of these and I really like them.
From what I understand, if the drive spins up, it is often possible to recover data from it. To be absolutely certain to destroy the data, you just about have to take a hammer to the disk. Hopefully, there will be a way to get your data back.
    Good luck!

  • I cannot sync new playlists from iTunes PC to my iPhone

I have read through many Apple support topics and how-tos, I have tried everything I can to get iTunes to copy over/ sync new playlists from my PC. Doesn't matter if I select manual choosing of music, or select individual playlists, update my preferences, or drag the playlists over to the iPhone... every single time I try syncing the result is that those new playlists NEVER APPEAR on my iphone.  I do usb syncing, wifi syncing... nothing will work.
This is incredibly frustrating!!   Now I understand why so many of my friends are just giving up on Apple products.
Why does such a SIMPLE process not work???

Apples update to iPhoto 11 (9.4.1) seems to have corrected the probem! I can selectively sync photo albums and events again. If anyone else is having the problem update to 9.4.1 !
