Syncing Issues with 7th Gen iPod Nano

I just opened my new iPod nano (7th Gen), installed a fresh version of iTunes, and connected my iPod to the computer.  After the initial setup questions, it attempted to sync, but iTunes just stalled. Minutes later I get this message "Henry's iPod cannot sync because it cannot be found."  Any idea what this means?
I will say that it has been awhile (a few years) since I've had an iPod and synced one up to the computer.  Not sure if that matters or not.

deggie, can I get those drivers from Dell's website, or is it a Microsoft type thing ? I am having trouble finding it on microsoft.com on how to remove/reinstall the USB boot driver.
I just tried a USB port again. Unsure if this is useful info or not, but I plug in the iPod, I get the "ding" that the computer notices new hardware, and on My Computer it says "Henry's iPod", then maybe 8 seconds later it then just shows "Removable Disk", then disappears, and shortly after shows the "cannot sync because it cannot be found" message.

  • Hi, I have a 7th Gen Ipod Nano and I am unable to delete songs. When synced on the PC I can select tracks but right clicking on them does not give the ability to delete. I have downloaded the latest 1.0.3 software but it did not help.

Hi,  I have a 7th gen ipod nano and am having a problem with deleting songs. I can select the track in my ipod's library but right clicking does not bring up the option to delet. I have downloaded the latest update for the ipod but this has not solved the issue. Can anyone suggest a remedy? thanks

    Hello Lor100,
In order to delete or add individual songs from and to your iPod, you'll need to enable 'manual mode' on the device. This will allow you to add and remove exactly the content you desire.

  • Synchronisation is moving my music (7th gen iPod Nano)

I’m having a problem synchronising my 7th gen iPod Nano with iTunes.
When I sync, it comes up with a message saying that a whole list of songs couldn’t be copied to the iPod because they couldn’t be found. This is because when I sync, songs that I’ve listened to (i.e. ones that have been modified and need to be synced) will sometimes get moved into an entirely new folder.
For example, I’ll have this folder:
\Music\The Smith Street Band\The Smith Street Band – Sunshine & Technology
Then when I sync, the songs in that folder get shifted from there to a new folder:
    \Music\The Smith Street Band\Sunshine & Technology
And my iTunes can’t locate them anymore because they’ve been moved.
I think I also have some songs that got renamed as well.
I have iTunes 11.0.3.42 and my iPod version is 1.0.2 PC. I’m using Windows 7 32-bit.

  • 7th gen iPod nano won't turn on after disconnect.

7th gen iPod nano won't turn on after disconnect. I loaded some new music, synced and ejected correctly. screen went black on unplug. Waited, did the button trick, didn't work. plugged it back in & it is recognized immediately. restored, resynced & ejected again. same thing-black screen w/ no response. Charged it overnight. ejected, screen then went to language setting. OK for English, eject & back to black on unplug. Switched ports for cable, tried eject thru PC...all resulting in dead nano after unplug. I really don't want to charge into the store & take it out on the poor kid who will catch the brunt of my frustration. anyone have a suggestion?

    Hello Marie,
I would be concerned too if my iPod nano was not powering on.  I found an article for the 6th generation iPod nano that has steps you can take for an issue like this (the only difference for the 7th generation iPod nano is the steps you will take for the reset. I included the steps to reset a 7th generation iPod nano below):
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting the device while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button for at least eight seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
You can find the full article here:
iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3474
All the steps apply to the 7th generation except the steps for the reset.  To reset a 7th generation iPod nano, use these steps:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for six seconds, or until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo appears after a few seconds, and then the Home screen. You may need to repeat this step.
I got these steps from this tutorial, which may also help with your iPod not appearing in iTunes:

  • Is their any way of linking my 7th gen iPod nano to my new IPad (3rd release)

Is there any way of getting my 7th gen iPod nano to my iPad 3 (3rd release anyway). They both have Bluetooth but don't seem to recognise one another.

I decided to fiddle around with the USB ports. I did it before but I only used the first two ports. I connected my iPod to the other two ports and it detected it. I noticed this issue just now when I was charging my 5S and the battery percentage wasn't showing up on iTunes so iTunes wasn't detecting it. So now I resolved that issue but now I have to see why those two USB ports aren't working properly.

  • Can't update the songs in a 7th Gen. iPod nano! Help!

Okay, I've been having problems with my 7th Gen iPod nano and I'm getting tired of this. A few days ago, I had a virus in my computer (the iPod wasn't hooked up at the time), and I had to restore everything in my computer. I downloaded iTunes again and when I plugged my iPod in the computer, the songs in my library are updated, but when I unplug the iPod nano, the songs in my playlist show songs that I had previously listened too a few weeks before the virus. But, now every time I plug it in to update the songs, my library on the computer updates, but the songs in the iPod still show the same list of songs from weeks ago. It doesn't show any sign of being updated. Plus, I looked up on the computer to see how to unfreeze the songs, and it tells me to hold the button for a few seconds and wait for the Apple Logo, I do that, but I don't see any Apple Logo. It doesn't seem to restore anything. Is my iPod not working now?
And I know that it's not an iPod nano, but I'm having the same problem with my 5th Generation iPod. I don't know what is going on, but I can't seem to update my 5th Generation iPod either.
Can someone help me with this? I don't know what else to do. I'm wondering if I need to buy new iPods, but I don't really want to spend the money to buy new iPods unless I REALLY need too.
    Thanks,
    Raven

Yes. My dad did a system restore and wiped everything out, and then reinstalled the computer. What do you mean to check my sync settings? Sorry, but whenever something happens to my ipods, I really have no idea what I'm supposed to do for them. If I can't get the ipods fixed, what's the next option?
    Thanks,
    Raven.

  • 7th gen iPod Nano bad flutter on podcasts

My 7th gen iPod Nano periodically suffers bad flutter on playback of podcasts, with the voices and music sounding rough and choppy, in the same manner as on a really bad turntable back in the days of LPs. When it happens, I perform a reset, reload everything, and it'll be alright for a week or three until the problem happens again. I'm getting a bit tired of having to perform resets and reloads. Any suggestions on how to avoid the problem?
I also have an older iPod classic, and I have never experienced the same problem on it, though I also put the same podcasts on it through the same copy of iTunes, so the problem would appear to be the iPod Nano itself.

    Hello NikPayne,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you have isolated the Podcast playback issue to your iPod nano. As frustrating as playback issues can be, there are some good troubleshooting steps I would recommend. Please use the attached article for information on troubleshooting your iPod nano. Please let me know if the issue continues after you have worked through the steps. Also, if the issue continues, does this happen with only Podcasts or with Music or other audio playback as well?

  • Does the 7th gen iPod Nano work w/Bluetooth 2.1 Speakers?

Does the 7th gen iPod Nano only work with Bluetooth 4.0 compatible speakers or should it also work with Bluetooth 2.1 devices?

No one here would know for sure. Since the Lightning adapter is new it may take awhile before you see any. The adapter works with my Zeppelin so there are some out there that will work. It will not be Apple making it.

No.  You can turn your 6G Nano in to be recycled at your local Apple Store for a 10% discount towards the purchase of a new one. Otherwise, your only other option would be to sell the iPod on Craigslist or eBay and use the proceeds from the sale towards the purchase of the new 7G nano.

Haha I had the exact same problem. Once I had tried it like 4 different pairs of headphones i was ready to give my iPod back. Then I tried pushing the headphones in further and proceeded to kick myself. I seems a lot of people have the same problem, post it on here and realise a few minutes later.

  • Is there any way of getting a 7th Gen iPod Nano to sync the same as older generaqtions

I have two problems with my new iPod Nano (7th Gen).
    1. When synced, artwork either isn't loaded at all or the wrong artwork is loaded against the wrong artist.
    2. When I play an album the songs are not played in the correct order, but shuffled automatically.
Can anybody suggest answeres to sorting these issues?
Frankly, if not, the 7th Gen Ipod is a serious regression - it feels more like a very old mp3 player!

The songs are still on her ipod.
They should transfer ok but make sure and use the same Apple ID that was used for the original purchase.
Connect the iPod to a computer, launch iTunes.
From the iTunes menu bar click File > Transfer Purchases From...
Make sure and backup the iTunes purchases >  How to back up your media in iTunes

  • Syncing and Charging Problem with 1st gen iPod nano

I purchased a 1st generation iPod nano via eBay about 3 months ago and have developed an interesting syncing and charging problem.  When I plug the nano to my iMac, frequently neither the computer nor iTunes will recognize it.  I have done "the five R's" with occasional success.  I've tried jiggling the cable in the computer port and sometimes it works in getting iTunes to recognize the nano, sometimes it doesn't.  Even when I am able to get iTunes to recognize the nano, I have frequently found that the nano hasn't charged up at all.  In fact, a couple of times I found it almost totally drained of power after having been connected to my computer.  Yes, I have the most recent version of iTunes installed on my iMac and my iMac, by the way, is relatively new - having been purchased in May of this year.  What is interesting is that I've taken my nano to work and it has absolutely no problem charging up on my Dell (yuk!).  For the record, I do not have iTunes installed on my work computer and I am not allowed to add any apps to my work computer without the consent of my supervisor.  The chances of getting iTunes installed on my Dell at work are pretty much nil.  Any suggestions on how I can fix the problem?

I bought a new USB dock connector and hoped, with fingers and toes crossed, that something positive would happen.  Sure enough, I was able to sync and recharge my old iPod nano.  I guess the original USB dock cable is on its last legs.  Not totally broken, but no longer reliable.  I consider my problem solved!    My thanks to everyone who took the time to read and try to solve my iPod problem.  I greatly appreciate it!

  • Help with 6th Gen iPod Nano please

Hello, I have a 6th gen ipod nano currently for about 1 and a half years, which has been working fine as of late, but today it lost all battery completely (I had used it for the first time yesterday paired up with the Nike+ attachment). Not knowing the battery had depleted I tried turning it on, but didn't work, decided to charge it just in case it was that. After waiting for a while I tried turning it on once more, connected it with my laptop & iTunes only to see the warning that it had to be restored since it had apparently gone corrupt. Even though it seemed weird, I did accept and let iTunes do it's stuff in order to restore it. About 30 minutes later it said that the server wasn't available for reach and couldn't finish the operation. Tried it a couple of more times only resulting in iTunes freezing over and unavailable to detach the nano from the laptop. I searched online for a manual reset and found the one in the support page (Lower volume + Turn on button for about 8 seconds then the lower + upper volume buttons) only to reach a flashing screen of the apple logo in my nano (lasted less then a second between flashes). iTunes couldn't detect my iPod up to this point. Tried it once more only to reach a white screen with black letters 'Do Not Disconnect' and nothing from the iTunes program (every once in a while it detects the nano but still can't update it because of the server issue). I'm pretty sure I've charged it up to full the iPod by now (both with laptop and directly from an outlet). The only thing I imagine left to do is for the battery to die on itself, which should take between 14 and 28 days, but before waiting that time for nothing, I'd rather see if anyone here has an idea on how to make this thing work again.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Issues with 4th gen ipod touch that I did not have with 1st gen

Got the 4th gen touch, and right away the most annoying thing was the pause in my music when locking/unlocking the ipod. It is a small pause, but nevertheless my 1st gen touch never had this. Is this an issue with all newer ipods or just me?
The battery is also funky, as it will run down to 3% and then the ipod turns off. Plugging in the ipod to charge turns it back on in a few minutes, as expected, but it always shows 40-42% charged when the unlock screen shows up. Do ipods quick charge to 40% from empty in 10 minutes or so?
Are these things fixable by Apple, and would I lose the engraving on the back?
The pause has been with me since I first started using the ipod. The battery issue possibly also, but I recently noticed it. A full reset, without restoring the 1st gens settings did not improve anything.

I can answer a few of these. I don't know about the pause. The battery doesn't surprise me. The new apple devices are infamous for having battery life issues. I don't think there is anything apple can do but if you take it in, you can choose to keep or give up your engraving. Keeping it will extend the repair time by a week or two.
