Syncing iTunes on Multiple Computers

I have iTunes 7 installed on 3 PC's. Each one contains different songs that are presently on my iPod. I would like to sync (download) all of my songs from my iPod to all the computers I am using to keep everything in order. most of the songs are from CD's and a few iTune purchased albums. Is there a way of doing this?
Thanks very much!

Manually you can do it with third party programs, but I don't know of a way to automatically do it across several computers to one iPod.

  • Syncing itunes on multiple computers / devices

Not really a question, more like a suggestion for itunes developers.
I have iTunes on PC and iMac computers, and use an iPhone and iPad.  I would like to have one itunes library that all the computers and devices see.  This doesn't seem to be possible because the itunes lib is computer-specific == that is, the itunes on my PC is not aware of the itunes on my iMac (and don't get me started on AppleTV!!)
Now perhaps this is a DRM issue, and music publishers won't allow the sharing.  Maybe.  It's just frustrating that I can't modify a playlist or whatever and have it show up everywhere, regardless of where the change was made.  Perhaps the answer is to lose the iMac and only do itunes on PCs?  Would syncing multiple computers work if they were all PCs?
Apple has a reputation that everything just works.  Sadly that doesn't seem to be as universal as it may once have been, but then it was just a reputation after all.  If there's a way to make this just work that I haven't figured out yet, I'm eager to learn it.  Bottom line is, I would like to have an iTunes library that can be displayed on any device I want, that can be modified from any device, and will appear the same on any device.  Is such a thing possible?
    Thanks for letting me vent.

    Hello,
You can share your iTunes library between machines and devices when connected to your local network. Additionally, iTunes Match is a service which allows you to store your Music "in the cloud" and access it remotely.

  • Itunes on multiple computers and icloud

I have itunes 10.4.1 on my home computer and on my work computer (both on same account).  Is it possible to transfer downloads on one computer to the other using icloud?

is it possible to use icloud to sync my itunes on multiple computers (imac and macbook air)?
Yes. On both Macs open System Preferences > Store. Make sure Music is switched on.
And for "sharing" read here >  iTunes: Setting up Home Sharing on your computer

  • Music and Video on Nas in folders but how do i set up itunes on multiple computers to see and use these files and create libraries?

Music and Video on Nas in folders but how do i set up itunes on multiple computers to see and use these files and create libraries?
So i have had a itunes set up on my old PC, bought a NAS and copied the folders over to the NAS, i did this incorrectly and so then even when i told the old PC to use that folder it saw all the songs but wasnt able to play the songs as it was looking in the incorrect place.
So now i want my Mac as well as my PC and others to all use the music, videos etc on the NAS they are in itunes friendly folders (as they were compiled this way by the itunes on the old PC.
When i tell the mac to use the itunes library.itl file it sees the song list (about 100gb) but cant see any songs, so i have removed this file to another location for now with the hope to set up a new file and then get it to see the songs on the folder from the NAS.
Can someone tell me how to do this for all the Mac's and PC's on my network as i really want one master library that all use and add too.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I have the same question but I am using two pc's

  • This has probably come up a million times - iTunes and multiple computers

I have a desktop game machine and a laptop I use primarily for school work and web browsing. Currently, I simply add music to one computer, then remember to add it to another. Is there some program or iTunes extension out there to keep the two libraries perfectly synchronized (including album art)? I'm really picky about having my album art set up perfectly...
    Thins which are NOT Options
    1. Network drive. I don't always have access to the big desktop via network (when I'm at home, in the car, on the road somewhere else).
    2. External drive. I don't want to have to tote an external around. I do have a program to fix an external's drive letter (USB Drive Letter Manager, freeware), but I usually leave the external plugged into my desktop for extra storage.
    3. iTunes sharing. Same issue as network drive, no guaranteed access.
Am I doomed to have to keep syncing manually? If there are programs out there, I am not necessarily averse to a commercial (i.e. paid) solution, but freeware (NOT Demoware) is preferred.

There are a few utilities that can help you sync iTunes across different computers. You could begin your research by having a look at these for instance:
    TuneRanger
    SuperSync
    syncOtunes

  • ITunes on multiple computers with shared external library?

Hey guys. I thought I might pick everyone's brain here. I just purchased a MacBook Air with just 128GB SSD but that should be fine as far as local storage. I have an iTunes library that is over 350GB and it grows everyday so even the 256GB storage wouldn't have been enough for me. I have multiple computers and also have an iPod, iPad and iPhone. They all sync via my MacBook through an external hard drive right now and this is the only computer I currently sync to.
Since I have a Mac Mini as well as a iMac, I want to see if there is a way that I can wirelessly share the external hard drive with the itunes library in it and all the computers would be hooked up to it going off that one source and itunes library. I buy music from not only itunes so I import music all the time to itunes and also want to make sure that it will update to the computers that are connected to the library automatically as I wouldn't want any inconsistency's when I need to sync one of my devices to one of my computers.
I hope there is a way to do this, and if there is can you please help me out and explain or point me in the right direction at least to where I can find out about this?
It would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Just a thought. Should I somehow open iTunes on MBP2 using MBP1's Library file??
both Macs can access the same library file, however, only one at a time !
to do that, you would ideally have the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) on the external. then, on one Mac after the other, launch iTunes while holding the option key, click on +choose library+ when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
or, you could have two separate libraries and keep those in sync using third party tools such as Syncopation, TuneRanger or SuperSync.
for purchases from the iTunes store, you could set up _*Home Sharing*_ - it can be configured to automatically transfer new purchases to home shared libraries.
Can I create a script to have MBP1 always save the iTunes Library file on the shared hard drive?
    no need.

  • ITunes on multiple computers

I am purchasing a new iMac and I am keeping my old 17" MacBook Pro (it's 4 years old). Right now I am keeping my iTunes on an external HDD. I have it connected to my MacBook Pro via firewire 800. The reason I originally put iTunes on the external HDD was because I was running out of HDD space on MacBook Pro (it's only got a 120GB HDD). I have an older Apple Airport Extreme.
My question is when the new iMac arrives how do I use my external HDD (with iTunes still on it) with the new iMac. My other question is, right now when I try to access iTunes (without external HDD attached) it asks me to either create an iTunes library or choose an existing one. I realize it's because my external is not hooked up, but once I get the new iMac and get my library working with it, should I just create a new library on my MacBook Pro? Also is it even possible to have one iTunes account on multiple computers?
Or would it be easier to hook up the external HDD to the airport extreme via USB and change the path on the new iMac? And that way both computers could access the external HDD, even though the USB connection would be a lot slower then the Firewire 800.
    Thanks in advance

Use the external as you do now. Whenever necessary start iTunes with the option key held down so you can direct it to the correct library location on the external. Shouldn't be necessary to do this too often other than the first time, and maybe not even then if you successfully migrate all your settings from your old machine to the new first.

  • How can I sync Bridge between multiple computers at work with keywords/collections/search?

We've been trying to find a digital asset management platform at work for a while now and I recently came across Bridge (we have the Creative Cloud). It's perfect! Except we're all on a bunch of different computers and would need to be able to search the same keywords/collections all from the same server (the photos are in many different folders though). Is there a way to be able to sync all keywords etc on multiple computers? Or if someone opens Bridge and can search right away without having to make all the keywords persistent by finding each photo and clicking on it? We're all on the same Creative Cloud team.

I actually did already create a book with all the files in it, but I couldn't figure out how that was helpful. The hyperlink panel doesn't seem to have any "book" options (unless I'm looking in the wrong place?) and just linking to the different files (after creating the book) didn't have any different results than linking to the files before I created the book.
I thought maybe linking to the different files in the book would work if I could export the whole book to pdf at once (which would be super-helpful in and of itself), but that doesn't seem to be an option either.
I guess what I'm asking is for you to elaborate on what to do after creating the book.
    Thanks!

  • Music & Video Sync issue with multiple computers

I sync my phone to multiple computers, one primarily for the ical and the other primarily for the music/video. Problem is, when I sync to my macbook pro (the ical & address book) I have the music sync turned off but it still wipes out ALL my music and videos! When I resync to my imac (the music & video) it puts the media right back on the phone of course.
Why does it wipe away my data? I tell it not to sync and it still wipes out my phone. It's quite annoying since it takes a while for the phone to re-sync 6-7 gigs of audio and video, not to mention if I'm not by my imac I have no A/V on my phone till I resync. The A/V functions are the reason most people buy the thing in the first place, I'm surprised its so un-userfriendly in this case.
    any suggestions?
    thanks,

I managed to get this done tonight.  Unfortunately, I didn't see a solution posted anywhere, so maybe I'm the first.  I did this with an iPhone, not an iPad, but I imagine the process is the same.
Step 1) Copy the contacts to the right profile.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/286044
Step 2) Back up your device.
Step 3) Start outlook and change the default profile to the one you want to use.
Step 4) Restore the device to it's original settings using the Restore button on the summary page.
Step 4) After the restore, it asks which backup you want to recover, pick the one you just did.
Now, if for some reason, it asks for an outlook profile during the restore, pick the right one.  I was asked this go-round, but not when I originally started syncing the phone.  Go figure.
Restoring to it's original settings could cause some sort of data loss.  I don't care about any game saves, and I just sync with my gmail, so my contacts were really all I was concerned about.  This process did recover 5 gigs of space eaten up by unexplained "other" data in my phone.  Maybe it was cached e-mails, maybe it was old apps that didn't uninstall properly, who knows.  But my apps, my e-mail, my contacts, my notes, my text messages and my calendar are all in place.
I have read that the default profile can be changed after the first sync, but in my situation, I wanted my outlook to default to this profile anyways.
Hopefully this will pop up in a google search for the next person who runs into this problem.  It sure was a headache for me.

  • Syncing ical across multiple computers without .mac

    Hi,
Is it possible to sync ical calendars across multiple computers in the same network or over the internet without .Mac? If I have a website or ftp server, can I use that instead to synce over the internet or is there an easier way? Thanks.

    This is another related question.
Having at last extracted a decade of diaries from Palm Desktop as vCal (since you ask I had to go back to Classic as the app quit without writing the export file in Tiger and Leopard, even tho it is otherwise OK) I now have something I can import rather messily into iCal.
However as I have really bad internet access in the Boondocks where I live I don't want to use .Mac to sync between my iMac and iBook. Palm ran very happily from a thumb drive, but I don't see how I can do it as the powers that be seem to have made the data file invisible.
I'd like to move it to the thumb drive and have an alias on each Mac where the data should be - as I do with Palm.
Does anyone know the path, and if there is a problem doing it between Tiger and Leopard?
    Cheers, Colin

  • How to sync iphone with multiple computers

I have had an iMac for the last 7 months now and have been sync'ing my iphone to it. I just got a Mac Mini the other day. I logged into my itunes account on the Mac Mini & purchased some new music. After plugging in my iphone to the Mac Mini, I tried to transfer the new music to my iphone but it came up with the message asking me if I wanted to erase what was currently on my iphone.
Obviously, Apple doesn't let you sync your iphone to more than one computer. Is there any workaround to this? I want to be able to get the music from iTunes to my iPhone.
I tried to load the music into my iDisk (with my MobileMe account) and I can stream it to my iphone (using the iDisk app) but I would like to actually have the music on my iphone itself.
If there are workarounds, I would love to know. Thanks!

Iphone will sync itunes content with one and only one computer.
    This is by design.
If you sync to another it will indeed erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
Put everything on one computer and sync to that one.

  • Best way to sync iTunes on 2 computers?

    Hi
Can anyone suggest the best way to sync iTunes between 3 macs Mac Pro & 2 Macbook pros.
I edit and rate the music on the desktop so it's not as much about the mp3 files as much as it is not having to reinput the metadata 3x.
Also the iTunes folder on the desktop is on a secondary drive not the HOME folder.
When I DJ on Traktor it looks for the location of the mp3 files and if they are listed as being on another drive then it can't find them.
I used iTunes Ranger about 5 years ago and although it was slow it worked fairly well across 3 DESKTOPS but their website only lists up to Mac OSX 10.6.
    Thanks in advance
    Enio

I found this on Tuneranger page even though the site for the app creator seems dead
Q: The ratings, playcounts, etc. from my iPod won't copy over to my iTunes when using TuneRanger.
A: TuneRanger only supports syncing of iTunes metadata (tags not part of the music files such as ratings, playcount, etc) when doing an iTunes to iTunes sync over a network. We don't support syncing metadata to/from the iPod. All the tag info embedded in the files is transferred but those fields proprietary to iTunes are not.
Does anyone know how to sync BPM and Comments when iCloud is NOT an option? (I don't have internet when I am dj'ing nor would I want to depend on access from the server in a pro situation)

  • How to use iTunes on multiple computers with an external hard drive.

I am trying to use two computers, one Macbook and one mac mini, with the same itunes library.  I have searched and found info on doing this, but it was older info and I am pretty sure that what was suggested does not work.  I can not get itunes to recognize the library files on the external drive, it will however recognize the media.  This would be fine, except the mac mini is being used as my media center and I update things on the macbook.  The thing that I am having a lot of trouble with is the home movies section.  Of course all my movies are not "movies"  so I have sorted through the "homemade" tv shows and movies, but when I switch computers, all this info goes away.  Why can't it follow the media?  I have had pretty good luck with keeping the cover art, but when I label the file as a movie or mark it as watched, this info is not transferred.  In some of the other answers people had given about this, they said itunes should ask where to go if the external drive was disconnected.  When I do it this way, itunes will just make a new file when the drive is unplugged.  I have about a thousand movies and I have changed info on these files twice now (thanks for adding home videos apple!), and it looks like I will be doing it for a third time, I just don't want to do it a fourth time on the other computer.  Any help would be great.  To break it down to the basic form, I would like to have an external drive that will sync file info between two or maybe more computers.  Is there a better solution?

Make sure the copy to iTunes media folder is unchecked.

  • Is it possible to sync PDFs with multiple computers using the same apple ID?

I have successfully synced these PDFs with one computer (iMac) and one iOS device (iPhone).
However, I can't figure out how to sync the PDFs with the second computer (Macbook Pro).
I added the PDFs to iTunes by dragging them into the books tab. I then set the iOS device to sync books via iBooks.
Does iTunes only sync books purchased from the iTunes store?
I am using iTunes v11.1 on both computers.

If you have tow computers that wish to talk to each other then no matter what Buddy List you use you will need two accounts.
If this is a List that logs into the AIM servers it can be an old @mac.com name, the newer MobileMe name or an AIM name.
With a Jabber List it can be a Jabber ID or GoogleTalk ID
In a straight forward set up Jabber Lists (Jabber ID) can not talk to AIM Buddies or An AIM Buddy List (Screen Name) talk to Jabber Buddies

  • Looking For Actual 'Sync' Tool For Multiple Computers

When I saw that syncing music via the iPod between computers was a new feature, I was Very Excited. I have music on my home machine and on my work machine. Each machine has about 3000 songs, with roughly 70% overlap on content, and only about 10% purchased through the iTunes Music Store. My iPod only gets synced to my home machine because of this.
I was hoping that this new feature would, in fact, synchronize the libraries of both machines into one cohesive library.
Sadly, this is not the case.
Any suggestions for combining both libraries into one *that don't require several hours of manual transfer* are welcome. Barring that, I guess I'll have to do the syncing myself.
    Thanks!

I am not familiar with any product that has functionality to track 'source' metadata at the column level. But I have helped architect and implement several data warehousing ETL systems that had to track the source of data for Sarbanes-Oxley, financial and auditing purposes.
All of these tracking mechnisms involved ETL of record-level data from a source system to staging tables to hold the data. The staging tables had columns to indicate the data source, whether it had been cleansed or not and what you refer to as 'confidence level'. This tracking and audit information was not carried forward into the production tables but was maintained securely for auditing purposes to prove what data and values had been originally transferred from source to target.
Once data is in the production system the original source of the data was no longer tracked since that data could be modified by app users or batch processes.
Your design will need to reflect whether you need to track the changes only within your ETL processes or even after it gets to production. If you are talking about column-by-column audit history then you will may want to look into Oracle's fine-grained access control.
