Syncing itunes to apple tv

I have 61.39 gb of songs in itunes, only 60.9gb in my apple tv . there is 25 gb free.

Welcome to the Apple community.
I'm not sure it's relevant, data stored on different devices will sometimes show up as different sizes, especially when the capacity of the devices is different.
Do you know whether or not there are any items missing or not, if so, you may have some items that are not in the correct format for playback on the Apple tv.

  • How do I sync itunes with apple tv 2nd generation?

I see all this information for syncing apple tv with itunes library for 1st generation. Please tell me you can do it for the 2nd generation. Home sharing is great, except it's stupid to have keep my laptop out and running in order to use it.

The ATV2 doesn't have a hard drive so you can't sync it in the same way you could with the first generation ATV. So you'll have to have your computer running iTunes or use Airplay from an iPad or iPhone unless you're renting a TV show, Movie or using Netflix from the ATV2 itself.
    Correct.

  • When syncing iTunes with Apple TV (1st gen) some songs and movies will not sync..

I get the message that these songs and movies are not authorized to play on this computer. The computer is authorized and the songs and movies will play on the computer but will not sync to Apple TV
    Any advice is aproeciated.

    Thanks for the reply WC
    Yes they do.
They origialnally played just fine. I moved my entire iTunes library to a new computer and now only 62 songs, out of over 2000, and two of four movies won't sync. All songs and movies are in same folders and same format.
I already selected "keep iTunes media folder organized" and "copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library"
using iTunes 10.7 and OSX 10.8.2

  • Sync iTunes with Apple TV by keeping movies on Apple TV hard disk?

I have a 144 Gb AppleTV that I sync with my iTunes, I was wondering if their was a way to keep all bought/rented movies and TV shows on Apple TV without having them on the computer hd too? I tried syncing my photos the other day and kept on copying the movies to my computer even with the setting made not to sync movies and tv shows! any solutions?

This is never a good idea. You should always have a backup. If anything happens to the ATV you will be out of luck.

  • Sync itunes from Apple desktop to macBook Pro

I have my iTunes on my apple mac and wnat to sync it so i have it all on my laptop (a macbook pro) when i travel so i can sync my iPhone iwh tlaptop as well as desk top.
Can it be done? and if so, how?

Well...basically you need to copy the iTunes Music folder with the original library and transfer it to the other computer. You could do this via a firewire cable hooked to the two computers (and probably the fastest way), or you could use an external drive or thumbdrive, depending on the size of your library. The most inefficient way would be to backup your library to disc and then import the files to the second computer.
Post back if you need help with one of these methods.

That used to happen to me a lot. For me, it was the fact that my Apple TV was kicked off the network at some point (often). The way I fixed it was to go check my network on the Apple TV, make sure it was connected, then check the libraries on the Apple TV and make sure my iMac iTunes library was listed (and not grayed out). If it was gray, I had to delete that library from the Apple TV and add it again (time sink but it worked). Then I would add the new Apple TV to my iMac iTunes library and all was well. But that was my experience. I hope this helps.
You are having the same problem as I am to the letter. When the issue occurs, I can sync new content usually but un-synced content refuses to stream. The library link is always grayed out until I re-link the library. When I do it works, until something reboots or the Apple TV sits too long.

If you are using the 2nd or 3rd gen Apple TV (little black box) then it would have no syncing or storage capability.
iTunes content would be accessed using home sharing.

  • How to keep synced library on Apple TV but delete synced items from iTunes

I use a Macbook Pro and space is limited, so does anyone know of a clean way to break the sync connection without deleting the existing synced content on Apple TV? I'd like to move items over, and then delete from my iTunes library to save space. I will also later want to add new items to be streamed, but without causing any past synching to be lost.
Can this be done by simply unchecking the "look for Apple TV" box in iTunes? If so, how can I then stream new content from the same Macbook Pro without causing past synced content to be lost? Since the syncing is quite slow over wireless network, I want to maintain commonly watched items on the apple TV but still ave the ability to stream a new item, from the same macbook pro if possible.

Thanks for the information. Just to be sure I'm clear: after I synch the one library (which I'll keep on an external hard drive where I have more space), is it OK to keep it around and make future changes that I want synced (and then just connect that library for synching whenever I want to change what is synched)? When I change back to my on-board library (on the Macbook pro), will that library not be synched automatically? Must I do anything on the Apple TV or in iTunes, other than start up with the different library, to ensure that my previously synched changes are not superceded?
Are you effectively saying that the synching of Apple TV is specific to a single iTunes library, even if different libraries are successively used in iTunes on the same machine? The manual has basically no information on how to preserve things synced, once synced, unless you're using the simplest model of wanting your iTunes library to be actively mirrored on the Apple TV. It is very painful to see things inadvertently deleted from Apple TV, given ow slowly things move over wireless g networks...

My wife had an iPad for a year and synced to our computer with no problem.  I recently received an ipad2 and when I tried to sync using separate apple and iTunes passwords, under her computer user name, it appears I over-road her account and synced all her apps with my apps on my iPad.  I then set myself up as a new user on our computer and tried to sync.  I now get the error that my iPad is synced to another library.  How can I start over without erasing all my data on the iPad?

Go back to her login.  Unless you deliberately erased apps, they should all be there, both yours and hers!  Then, you need to set up each iPad separately.  You will notice that they have separate names for that very purpose.
There is no problem with multiple Apple IDs on the same iTunes on the same computer except...  Apps are permanently associated with the ID that was originally used to obtain them.  If you choose to update an app from inside iTunes and you're logged into the "wrong" ID, you must log out and back in again.
On the bright side, you can configure either or both iPads to sync with apps and music and movies, etc. from either or both IDs.  Further, if you choose to update the apps from the iPads themselves, there is no need to log out/in.  The device handles that.  All you need is the correct password.  In my case, I use the same password for both IDs to make things easier.

  • HT1784 In iTunes my Apple tv (1st Generation) only shows Summary and photos so I can no longer load a movie and sync to the Apple tv. Anybody else experienced options now missing ?

I used my Apple tv (1st generation) to load films on iTunes and then sync to my Aplle tv. In iTunes I now can only see Summary and Photos and therefore lost the ability to load a film and then sync to the Apple tv. Anybody else experienced this with ? Cannot find any options to resolve this.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your library has become a secondary (streaming only) library only (it is possible to turn syncing off by ctrl-clicking on the Apple TV listing in the device list and choosing 'Turn Off Syncing" from the contextual menu) and you need to reconnect your library as a primary library.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • Syncing photos in iTunes with Apple TV and iPod Classic

    Hi:
I recently purchased an Apple TV and every since I got it when I sync my iPod Classic and the Apple TV with iTunes, iTunes optimizes all my photos again (3000+ photos). In other words, every time I sync, iTunes optimizes my photos, deletes them and re-adds them again to the iPod and the Apple TV. Any idea why it may be doing this? I mean it’s ok, it’s just time consuming every time I do a sync. This never happened before unless I will add new photos and in that case iTunes will optimize and add just the new ones not all of them.
Thanks for any advise you may have.
    Manolo.

Anyone has any idea? Would this be related to the new iTunes update?
    Thanks,
    Manolo.

  • ITunes sync hangs only when syncing photos to Apple TV

I just got an Apple TV, and updated it to the last software v2.4; iTunes is also running latest v 9x.
I have a large library and the first sync took a long time but it got done successfully.
But when I select images I want to sync in the 'photos' tab in iTunes for my ATV and then run sync, iTunes hangs on "Syncing Apple TV" - it just spins for hours without doing anything - nothing gets synced. If I deselect Photos completely, sync works normally - this is true for either auto or custom sync modes.
Is this a known issue? If anyone has experienced this issue and has a suggestion on a fix, it would be welcomed. I've searched the forums and can't seem to find anything that would be a fix on this.
    Thanks!

So I tried a sync with the ATV with only 1 folder of photos selected from my 'my pictures' folder which is populated only with a few jpeg format images.
Same problem - itunes just stays in 'syncing apple tv' mode, the sync activity icon keeps spinning but nothing actually transfers. I had to cancel out of the sync.
One thing I noticed which is odd, is that no matter which or how many folders I might happen to select in the folders list view, the number '390' appears beside the selected folder to the far right of the selected folder. I assume that is a representation of the # of images contained in that folder that's been selected, but I know each of the selected folders don't have precisely 390 images each.
    This smells like a bug.

  • ITunes and Apple TV Won't Sync After Moving to New Mac HD

I've had to clone my 10.5.5 system onto a new HD. Now the Apple TV that previously synced doesn't see iTunes 8.0.1. On the Apple TV under Settings>Computer, the link to my iTunes library is greyed out. However from iTunes on the Mac, I can still select the Apple TV for AirTunes and stream to it so they are connecting on some level. I'm fairly certain that I could turn off the sync on the Apple TV side and set up a new one. However that will likely result in the entire 23GB library being erased on the Apple TV and copied again over the network. Is there a way to save many hours and reconnect the libraries without copying everything again?

I haven't seen any reports of it being done with version 2 of the tv software, but under version 1, if you set up a new primary library from the tv which was essentially the same as the library you were replacing, it wouldn't re-write anything which it didn't need to.
As I say, I have no idea if this is the same with version 2 software.
