Syncing Lightroom Collections with Smugmug Galleries

Is it possible to keep Lightroom Collections in sync with Smugmug Galleries within Lightroom itself? For example, I have a Lightroom Collection called Sunsets and I also have a Smugmug Gallery called Sunsets. If I were to add a picture to the Lightroom Collection or delete it from the Lightroom Collection, I would like for that same photo to be added or deleted to/from the Smugmug Gallery automatically. I am using the latest Smugmug Plugin for Lightroom. The problem I face is trying to remember what photos I have added or deleted from my Lightroom Collections and then doing the same thing for the Smugmug Galleries. If there is a way to keep these in sync, then my problem will be solved. Thanks for your help.

If you are using Jeffery Friedl's Smugmug publish plug-in you can do the following:
Create Normal Collection in LR i.e. "Sunsets"
In the Smugmug Publish Services create a new Smart gallery (call it Sunsets as well) (See instructions on Jeffery's site for specifics on doing this)
Once the empty Smart Gallery has been created then you can edit it in Lightroom to have the rule(s) like below:
Choose Source as Collection, Contains All, 'Sunsets' (as the text to match)
I could not test this out directly with Smugmug as I only have a Zenfolio account.
But the instructions on Jeffery's site look like this is applicable to either his Smugmug or Zenfolio plugin.
Now, if I add/delete a photo to the normal LR collection titled 'Sunsets' then the corresponding Smart collection in the Publish services shows the same.
You then have to click on the Publish button to get the actual website updated with the changes.
Hope this helps point you in the right direction for what you are trying to accomplish.

It's clunky, but if two catalogs refer to the same images, you can pass some settings back and forwards between these two catalogs via external metadata on the file. These images may be literally shared, or else separately stored but with changes physically transferred (replicated / synced). But LR Mobile is AFAICT no help at all in this.
Collection membership cannot be replicated this way - to do that directly, you would instead need some method based on passing Catalog data back and forth, as mentioned in another reply. However, as a workaround, if you were to apply a characteristic keyword, you could make a Smart Collection in each place which was based on the presence of that keyword. This alters the problem, into getting the same keyword loaded into images within each of two Catalogs - and that CAN be done via external metadata. However, AFAIK via this workaround, this grouping of the images will not then show up in LR Mobile in the same way, in the form of a standard Collection. However, the keyword should be visible to LR Mobile in due course.
Caveat: besides being clunky, the above's a little hazardous too:
Whenever you write metadata to file, LR goes ahead and unselectively obliterates everything that was previously there in the file. It won't warn you, if this operation overwrites older edits onto newer ones.

The 'sync collections' setting does not copy books or PDFs between devices - all it does is if you have the book on both devices and you move it into a collection on one of them, then it will be put into the same collection on the other device.
You will need to sync each PDF that you want on your phone. If you don't currently have them on your computer then connect your iPad to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over (that should copy PDFs and/or epubs that are in the iBooks app, not just actual ibooks), and if using a Mac with Mavericks on it do File > Move Books From iTunes in the iBooks app on it, and you can then sync them to your iPhone.

Using/Syncing Lightroom 2 with Mac and PC

I'm using Lightroom on a couple of machines. My main desktop is a Mac and a Mac laptop while on shoots. I have a partner in the office that works on a PC to work with clients, is there a way to sync the Lightroom catalog between machines, like between the Mac and the PC if they're on the same network?

I too am having difficulties with this. I used to have a PC desktop & laptop, and used sync products such as Microsoft Live Mesh and/or Foldershare to sync the catalog between my two machines.
I have recently replaced my laptop with a MacBook, and now have problems with synced catalogs. On my MacBook, it shows that it cannot find the picture files imported on my PC, and my PC cannot find picture files imported on my MacBook. Its ultimately due to the pathname associated with the picture (i.e. a MacBook does not have a C:\... in the path).
Is there any solution to this to allow the PC & Mac catalogs to sync between machines seamlessly?

Lightroom integration with SmugMug (and maybe other sites).

Im sure this is old news to most of you, but for those that havent really looked into all the options of Lightroom I made a small how-to about integrating Lightroom's export function with the online photo site SmugMug.
It allows you to select images in Lightroom, and upload them directly to Smugmug by using a small third party application.

We have SOAP and odata API's. They can integrate directly without using a middleware. Of course, if you do that either the receiving application or the API must do all the mapping - but they would be a design choice. We recommend a middleware to give the most flexibility to change the integration w/o having to change the application.

How to synchronize Lightroom mobile with multi macs

My lightroom mobile has synced with my working mac. When i login on my own mac, it warms me this.
After I choosing SWITH, the collections on my iPad were cleared and only can be found on my working mac. My other collections (synced with mobile) were also stoped synchronizing.
Is there a solution to sync the collections with multi mac?

Syncing Lightroom 5 collections with Apple TV

I recently upgraded from Photoshop Elements 9 to Lightroom 5, When I moved the catalogue over, all keywords transferred, and Albums became collections. When I used Photshop Elements, I could easily sync the Albums with my Apple Tvs to display the pictures, as well as my other Apple Devices. I can not figure out how to export the collections to the Apple devices, especially the Apple TVs. There must be a way given the power of this software. Please help.

I export from LR the photos I want on my Apple devices to subfolders of a parent folder "Apple Devices". (I have too many photos to put the entire catalog on my i-devices.)
For the Apple TV, set up Home Sharing with your computer, and do File > Home Sharing > Choose Photos to select the parent folder (e.g. "Apple Devices"). Then on the Apple TV, you can do Computers > <your library> > Photos to browse the photos.
On i-devices, in iTunes select the device and then the Photos tab on the top menu bar. Check Sync Photos From, and in the dropdown, select Choose Folder to choose the parent folder "Apple Devices".

Lightroom collections and Elements 11 Albums Sync?

I just upgrated to Elements 11 and am a beginning Lightroom 4 user. Can I sync my Elements 11 albums with my Lightroom Collections?

Depends on what you mean by "sync"
It can be done manually, by you, the user, always checking to see that the same photos are in both the PSE11 Albums and the Lightroom Collections — but that's probably not what you meant.
I suppose if you are really really good at writing SQL code, you could keep these items in sync that way — but that's probably not what you meant.
Other than that, the answer is: it can't be done.
So the advice I have for you is to make Lightroom your only "organizing" type of software. If you haven't already transferred the organization you have created from the PSE11 Organizer to Lightroom, then do so, and then stop using the PSE Organizer. You use the Library Module in Lightroom as your only organizing software, and edit the photos in Lightroom, and optionally use the PSE11 Editor for more advanced type of editing.

I have no option to sync my collections to lightroom mobile. I had the option and all of a sudden it is gone.

I cannot sync a collection to Lightroom mobile. I have the creative cloud photography plan and had no problems with this a few weeks ago. What I would do is edit photos on my computer then add them to the synced collection and then post them from my iPad. There is no option in the create a collection window and there is no sync button next to the collections.
I am losing my mind. Please help.

The collection I am trying to sync is not a smart collection. It is the same collection that was synced several weeks ago but now is not and there is not option to sync. As you can see in the picture, the sync icon is not there and in the create new set dialog there are no syncing options.
Is there no sync option in the free version? It seems like perhaps it has reverted even though I am paying for it but I have re installed it from the Creative Cloud app and it is still the same.

IPhoto frozen when syncing with MobileMe galleries

Hello all,
I have about 30 MobileMe albums uploaded from iPhoto. I noticed that 3 seconds after i updated metadata (photo title, rating etc) of any photo in the online gallery, iPhoto freezes. I am very positive the freeze is caused by the fact that iPhoto tries to sync that change with MobileMe (the icon next to the online gallery changed to the spinning wheel)
I come from a programming background and it seems to me the freeze is caused by something like "using UI thread to do the sync and because the thread is blocked by the network I/O". I hope this is not the case because it's a very poor/half-*** design.
Does anyone have insight on how to avoid/fix this issue?

syncing with Mobile me does lock up your system - I'm guessing tha this is because until recently you could continue making changes while the update was taking place causing problems with the update
The best way is to make an album of the photos you want in the mobile me gallery, make all of your changes there and then publish the completed gallery

For example, suppose I have three collections of contacts: Bob's, Sally's, and Common. I want Bob to be able to access and sync Bob's contacts and Common contacts, and Sally to access and sync Sally's contacts and Common contacts. Bob and Sally never need to access or sync each other's contacts. Bob and Sally would both sync and share contacts in Common.
How would I best implement this? It's my understanding I have three options for managing contacts across iOS and OS X: 1. iCloud accounts, 2. Install OS X server, or 3. Install and manage Darwin CardDAV directly. Which method would best support what I wish to do?
I am a seasoned Unix geek well versed in the terminal, so I am prepared to get my hands dirty as much as necessary to achieve what I want. Also, it is sufficient if syncing takes place over WiFi on the local network, in fact, that is desirable versus syncing over the cloud.

Firefox Sync not working with weave server behind password protected proxy

Since the sync is moved from firefox to Android, I'm completely unable to sync my bookmarks with my personal weave server. The server is internal, but accessible via a proxy with a username/password for all internal sites. Last working version was 10.0.5, all newer versions have this problem. I've just reinstalled the ancient version, as I now need the bookmarks. First syncing in 10.0.5 and then upgrading to anything newer makes all previous synced data unavailable. BTW the newef versions will let you add other devices to the same sync account (on the internal server), but it just complete refuses to collect any data at all from the server. (I don't even see any attempts in the logging of the proxy server)
I'm unable to get debug info, as I don't have a google account (don't trust them) and can't run SDK or other non-standard tools on my company phone.
The phone in question is a Samsung Galaxy S2, latest software version (Android 4.04) Is there a way to get firefox doing the sync? (As Android just can't handle this)

Are you using the first method? Where the Firefox server is the authenticating server and the hosted server is your own?
It fails to login because it flags it already has a token, but 401 failed to Get the collections at your server, these are strange errors and I am not an expert, please do ask your question in the mailing list, the technical eye will be able to catch the issue much quicker.
