Syncing m4b files to iPad / iPhone via iTunes

Wondering if anyone else ran into a problem syncing m4b files to their iPod/iPhone via iTunes.  I was able to import these into iTunes with no issues, but when I try to transfer them to my iPod or iPhone, they do not show up in the list.  Anyone knows why?  I thought, m4b is Apple format.  I was able to convert the files to mp3 and get them over that way, but that's a pain in the neck.

That particular Kbase article is the inverse of the question....
It describes device to computer transfers but says nothing about transferring from computer to device.
In fact, the implication from that article is that it CANNOT be done!

  • Write to local CSV (or txt) file on iPad -- access via iTunes

    I'm trying to figure out how to write to a local CSV (or TXT) text file on the iPad. I've got UIFileSharingEnabled working--iTunes sees the app as available for file sharing. However, via FileStreram, I can't find where to save the file to? I've tried all the options I know of;
    * documentsDirectory
    * applicationDirectory
    * desktopDirectory
    * userDirectory
    * applicationStorageDirectory
    ...but the file doesn't show up in iTunes. Anyone have any suggestions? You game developers must have this figured out for 'high-score' and preferences.
    Thanks

  • Issues with syncing my Mac with my iPhone via iTunes Match

    I have just signed up for iTunes Match.  Most of my music was loaded onto my iPhone but when I turned on iTunes Match on my phone all the music was replaced but what was on my Mac, which was just a few albums.  I need the mac to sync with the iPhone.  All my previously own music is on my iPhone and I need to get it to the cloud so all my device sync to that library via iTunes Match.  Help.
    KB

    iTunes Match scans, matches and uploads tracks only from an iTunes library. The service does not do this on iOS devices. Any tracks on your iPhone that were not in your iTunes library when you enabled iTunes Match were removed. If any of those tracks were only stored on your iPhone they are now gone. However most purchased tracks may be able to be re-downloaded from your purchase history in iTunes.
    Check to see if iTunes in the Cloud (which is not the same thing as iTunes Match) is available in your country at this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    If the service is available in your country you can enable it in iTunes by opening iTunes Prefs > Store and selecting the option to "show iTunes in the Cloud purchases). You will now be able to download your iTunes Store purchases to your computer directly in iTunes. Any music ripped from CDs will have to be re-ripped.

  • Video syncing errors from iPhoto to iPhone via iTunes

    I recently took 50 or so video or pictures on my iPhone 5 while on vacation. Once home, I synced them into iPhoto like I always do, and deleted the files after import. I then synced my phone with iTunes, where (in the photos section) I choose to sync all events from the past 12 months, with the 'Include Videos' checkbox checked. This is how I've done things up to now, and its always worked.
    However, this time, two of the videos will not sync back to my phone. I get an iTunes error saying that they are not in the correct format. This is bizarre, since several videos taken before, between, and after them sync fine. The 2 videos are not exceptionally long or short compared to others that sync successfully.
    Has anyone seen a trick or workaround to make iTunes sync these videos?

    Thanks again TD
    I will check on the formating when I get home, I am pretty sure that I haven't used any no-ascii characters, but will double check.
    Before I download iphoto library manager, I just wanted to report an interesting experiment that I tried last night that may point in a different direction:
    I keep my iphoto library on a second internal HD, so I thought I would just try making a complete copy of my iphoto library onto my desktop. Once I did this, I started up iPhoto with alt and choose the desktop version of the library and all worked perfectly, my iphoto albums showed instantly in my photo tab in itunes when I selected to sync with iphoto.
    My next move was to rename my old library and then copy my desktop version into the folder where the old library is. Once I did this the problem was back again.
    I have no reason to believe that it is the second disc that is causing the problem, as that is where I have always kept my itunes and iphoto libraries and they have worked without problem.
    (As I am writing this, it dawned upon me that I missed one important test, I should have tried the old library after I had renamed it, but stil in the same place.)
    I am now suspecting that the problem may be linked to an external drive that I addded to the system at Christmas. This was a WD My Book which I use for backup, the link being that I use the software that came with it to do autobackups that includes my iphoto library folder. I am wondering if this software does something to the folder.
    Thoughts welcome.

  • Syncing calendars across PC, iPad & iPhone via iCloud.

    As the name suggests, I'm a PC.  Everyone keeps telling me to make the leap to apple for a laptop too & then all my devices would work beautufully together.  But it's not an option at the moment.
    I'm really struggling to get my calendar syncing properly via iCloud across a PC, an iPhone & iPad.  I've figured out a few of the problems but the biggie that remains is around meeting invites.  My husband & I send each other meeting requests to ensure that we know what each other is doing.  If he sends me an invite, I can accept it in Outlook on  my PC & it drops into the Outlook default calendar, but it will not appear in the iCloud calendar on Outlook & therefore doesn't appear on my iPhone & iPad.
    If I attempt to send him an invite from iPhone or iPad, he cant even see it properly on his PC/Galaxy/Nexus.
    I have my own IMAP domain & don't want to abandon it for Gmail.

    Can I sync PDF files from my iPhone 4 to my new iPad wirelessly without iTunes

    Yes, you can. Just add files to iTunes library (FILE > ADD FILES TO LIBRARY....) and they will appear under Books library.
    Connect you device, select the Books tab, and make sure those books or pdf you want them over are being checked, then click the SYNC button on the lower right window.

    QUESTIONS: I have an iphone 3gs.just updating to ios5. am at the stage where I chose to restore iphone via itunes. sync seems stuck at step 7 of 7: syncing artwork. Is this necessary and if not how do I get around it?

    When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

  • I'm unable to sync my iphone via itunes

    i dropped my iphone on its back... the phone is still working - when i call it, it rings,,, however, the screen is blank and black... i tried to restart it using the home buttom and top button... still didn't turn on.
    i'm trying to sync my iphone via itunes on my windows pc - however, because i have a passcode lock on my phone, itunes sends an error message saying that it cannot sync my phone until i unlock my iphone by entering in the passcode.
    i tried to do it, even with a blank screen, but it didn't work.
    what can i do?

    Try this link. I had the same problem, used this and now it works like normal!

  • Does iTunes sync metadata when syncing photos to an iPad/iPhone? I am using Aperture v3 as my photo library.

    Does iTunes sync metadata when syncing photos to an iPad/iPhone? I am using Aperture v3 as my photo library.

    This might sound weird, but here's an idea which worked for me re music that was newly added to itunes and showed up in my ipod but wouldn't play - I simply played the tracks in itunes first, just a second of time or so will do it, not the whole track, then connect the ipod and sync again and this time they played - hope this helps.

  • How to upload words, exel, PDF file from the pc via itune to the iPad, and where will the uploaded file be saved? In the apps?

    How to upload words, exel, PDF file from the pc via itune to the iPad, and where will the uploaded file be saved? In the apps?

    You will need an app (or apps) on your iPad that is capable of reading the documents, as they will be saved with the app - if you don't have such an app then there is nothing to transfer them to or to read/access them.
    One method of transferring them is toconnect your iPad to your computer's iTunes, select it's app tab, and then scroll to the bottom of it - you should the apps That you've got that are capable of file-sharing (if you've got any).  Selecting/high-lighting one of them should then allow you to add files to it via the box to the right of it.
    An alternative way to get the documents onto your iPad is if the app that you want to transfer them to has a wifi setting, which will then allow you to transfer the documents wirelessly. You can also send the documents to yourself as attachments and then use Mail's 'open in' facility to copy them into your chosen app.
    Edit : more info on file sharing from the manual :
    File Sharing lets you transfer files between iPad and your computer. You can share files created with a compatible app and saved in a supported format.
    Apps that support file sharing appear in the File Sharing Apps list in iTunes. For each app, the Files list shows the documents that are on iPad. See the app’s documentation for how it shares files; not all apps support this feature.
    Connect iPad to your computer.
    In iTunes, select iPad in the Devices list, then click Apps at the top of the screen.
    In the File Sharing section, select an app from the list on the left.
    On the right, select the file you want to transfer, then click “Save to” and choose a destination on your computer.
    Transfer a file from your computer to iPad:
    Connect iPad to your computer.
    In iTunes, select iPad in the Devices list, then click Apps at the top of the screen.
    In the File Sharing section, click Add.
    Select a file, then click Choose (Mac) or OK (PC).
    The file is transferred to your device and can be opened using an app that supports that file type. To transfer more than one file, select each additional file.
    Delete a file from iPad: Select the file in the Files list, then tap Delete.

    It is no longer possible, read the posts under the heading More Like This for workarounds.
    Also, check this thread, it's a bit long, and a bit stormy but there is at least one alternative method in posted in it.

    How can I DOWNGRADE to itunes 11 ?

    Yes. Reinstall iTunes. If that is the point at which you stopped trying the support suggestions then it makes sense to me, that you move on to the next suggestion and if reinstalling iTunes is the next suggestion, so be it.
    However ....  I too have issues that arise out of the blue with my iPad being recognized in iTunes and what I always do and it eventually works is to quit iTunes, restart my MacBook, and reboot my iPad.
    Rebooting the iPad is the last thing that I do and only if I have no success with quitting iTunes and restarting the Mac. It may take a few tries to work, but if you are that dead set against reinstalling iTunes, then give it a try.

  • Can I sync PDF files between my iPhone and iPad?

    Can I sync PDF files between my iPhone and iPad?

    Yes, and we will have integration with our Mobile Readers as well. We've already submitted to Apple for review, and will be live once they complete their review and approval.
    With this, we'll allow you to share files pretty easily between Desktop, Tablet and Phone across all OSes...and when you make changes, we'll automatically bring them to and from your phone/tablet! Pretty cool.
