Syncing more music than I want

My iTunes has only the songs I want on my phone checked off, but when I try to sync it there are more songs than I wanted on my phone. Music match is off. How do I get my phone to sync properly with my computer without having to go through and delete each song I dont want individually off of my phone?

Yes, I checked off the only sync checked songs box.
What do you mean by simply use playlist?

  • I connected my IPad 2 to my PC and it automatically synced much more music than I wanted it to. I deleted all the music I did not want but it all shows up in light grey in Music but it doesn't play. What is going on?  I think I fixed my sync problem .

Why does deleted music stay on my IPad I light grey and yet it isn't really the?

Did you select all of the music to sync by clicking on the playlists or albums or whatever you use in iTunes - in order for them to sync? Or did you click on Entire Music Library if you want all of your music on the iPad?

  • I synced with iMac itunes and got many more contacts than I want on the iPhone. How can I delete multiple contacts rather than having to do so one at a time?

I synced my iPhone with itunes and iMac and got many more contacts than I wanted on my iPhone. How can I delete quite a few of them at one time as opposed to deleting one at a time?

iTunes does not handle the import of photos/videos from the iPhone's Camera Roll.
If this is not the computer you sync your iPhone with, you should have been provided a warning message that your iPhone is associated with an iTunes library on another computer and when trying to transfer any iTunes content from a different computer, a warning message is provided indicating that all iTunes content on the iPhone will be erased first.
When connecting an iPhone to iTunes on another computer, none of the options under the various tabs for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes are selected automatically. This means you had to select Sync Contacts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on your wife's computer.
Assuming you are syncing contacts with a supported address book app on your computer, connect your iPhone to Tunes on your computer and without syncing, under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences below the Advanced section, select Contacts for replace info on this iPhone followed by a sync.
For importing photos/videos from the Camera Roll which can be done with a computer that is not used for syncing the iPhone since syncing with iTunes is not involved.

My Nano is full and I can no longer sync more music. How do I delete duplicate songs on the Nano to make room for syncing more songs?

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

Yes. Configure your Shuffle to sync only selected playlists from under its Music tab.  This article should be able to assist you with this.

  • ITunes thinks iPhone has more music than it really does, and won't sync

I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1, and am running iTunes 11.1.5 on Mavericks.
I was using iTunes Match on the iPhone, but I don't want to do so any more because I have acquired a lot of music that I can't upload to iTunes Match. (This is because my wife has her own iTunes Match account, and Apple won't allow two different iTunes Match accounts to be used simultaneously on the same computer, even under different user accounts. So because my wife uses her iTunes Match account under her user account on the same computer, I cannot activate my own iTunes Match account and upload my additional music.)
So I turned off iTunes Match on the phone. I then went into Settings - General - Usage - Music and deleted all the music on the phone.
The phone now shows as having no music on it at all, both in Settings and in the Music app itself.
I hooked the phone up to iTunes in order to sync a new load of music onto it. Under "Summary", the usage bar shows no music on the phone at all, and a total of 10.99 GB free. This is exactly as expected.
I have ticked "Sync only checked songs and video". In my iTunes library, only ten songs are checked. So I am attempting to put only ten songs onto the phone (for now).
I go over to the "Music" tab of the phone. I check "Sync Music". Suddenly a huge blue bar appears at the bottom, and it now says I'm over capacity by 975.8 MB. And yet at the top of the screen, next to "Sync Music", it also says "10 songs". So it knows I only want to put 10 songs on the phone, and yet it thinks that this is too much for the 10.99 GB free space on the phone.
Heading over to the "On This iPhone" tab of the phone, I see that all of the music that I previously deleted from the phone is showing up here, even though it's no longer on the phone. If I double-click on any of the items, they don't play, and an exclamation mark symbol appears next to them, indicating that the tracks aren't actually present. If I right-click on any of the items, the only options I have are to play them, get info, check the rating, or show in iTunes Store. There's no delete option.
It looks like, as long as I don't try to sync the iPhone, iTunes recognises that there's no music on it, and it's got over 10 GB of free space. But as soon as I try to sync it, iTunes thinks that the old, deleted music is still on it, and that I therefore have no space to put anything more on. So it refuses to sync any music to the phone, even though there's plenty of space for it.
I have tried ejecting the phone, restarting it, and remounting it. I have also tried signing out of my account on the phone and signing back in. It makes no difference. I don't know what else to do.
So I can't sync the iPhone. What's going wrong, and what can I do to make it work?

Same problem here. Mine is a iPhone 5s......

  • Syncing more files than what is in iTunes library?

    Hi All,
I did some cleanup work on my MP3 collection last night through updating metadata tags, etc. I then did a reimport of my collection into iTunes. I have roughly 3300 MP3 files. When my ATV started to sync last night, I noticed it trying to sync around 7000 files? When the ATV syncs music, does it sync any other "background" files I should be aware of? I am concerned now that it will fill up my drive but I can't figure out why it isn't just syncing the 3300 files? I didn't make any changes to movies, photos, etc. If music was also setup in playlists, it doesn't try to duplicate those files, right? I cleared them just to be safe and still see a large number. Any help would be appreciated.

If you had already set itunes to sync your photos in a previous session, it will continue to sync them every time until you deselect that option.
I can't help but keep thinking back to the fact that you reorganized/reimported your tunes collection and that twice your content is not far from 7000 items, have a look at how much space your tunes collection takes up in itunes and compare it to how much space is occupied by audio files on your tv (you can see this at the bottom of your sync options), you can also see how much space is occupied by photos and movies etc there.
If there is a large discrepancy in the space occupied by tunes (say twice as much as it should be), could you post back with a step by step of what you did to reorganize your tunes.

  • Idvd loop more music than pictures, can these loop?

I have an iDVD8 slideshow from iPhoto8. I have say 50 pictures but more songs (time). I selected looping, but after the last picture the music starts over again. I suppose I can paste duplicate pictures, but is their a way to play the music through and just have the pictures loop?
Thanks for quick help, funeral is tomorrow....

If you exceed your storage, you will no longer be able to send or receive messages with your iCloud email address, your devices will no longer back up to iCloud, and iCloud-enabled apps will not update documents and between your devices until you either purchase more storage or delete data from your account so there is sufficient storage.
Also, photo stream photos and music don't use your iCloud storage.  Only camera roll photos do, as they are included in your iCloud backup.
You aslo can't use iCloud to store data you can't fit on your phone.  All of your iCloud data (except your backup) must also be on your phone.  If you delete any iCloud data from your phone, it will also be deleted from iCloud.

  • I have more music than 25,000 songs, can I have two accounts under one apple ID?

Is there a way to add more songs or a second account to one apple ID?

Just to be clear, iTunes Store purchases made with the same Apple ID being used for iTunes Match do not count towards the 25,000 song limit.
    This may help:

  • I'm trying to sync more music onto my iPhone but it just says "Waiting for sync to start" and it won't go away or start the sync.

I've tried multiple things but I just cannot get the sync to start!

At some stage is is likely to have been connected to another computer's iTunes.  It is now linked to that computer's library and iPhones can only be associated to one library at a time.  Linking to a different one requires wiping the phone.
If you used the phone with another computer you owned you can transfer the iTunes library from that computer to this one and the phone will still be syncing with the same library it was before.
If all there is on the phone are items which can be backed up to iTunes and purchases which can be transferred you could do that, then wipe the phone and sync them back.

  • More duplicates than I wanted

In my slideshow project I go to duplicate an image and find that iPhoto places two duplicates in my project. I move one to where I want it in the slide show and then delete the second one that's at the end and it deletes them both. If I leave the extra one at the end, it plays as part of my slideshow (which is not what I want!).
I tried reinstalling iPhoto and ran System Update, but the problem continues.
If I quit iPhoto and then relaunch, I sometimes get a message saying there are unimported photos in the library, do I want to import them? However I haven't gotten consistent results for either a "yes" or "no" reply. The presence or disappearance of my duplicate duplicates seems to vary.

    David:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When you add a photo to a slideshow, album, etc. it's only a virtual copy, not a real file copy. You can have as many virtual copies as you want in a library. If you delete a photo from an album, it is only deleted from that album. However, if you delete the source file in the main library, all virtual copies of it will be deleted.
So you don't have to worry about duplicates. Regarding the unimported files, look in the iPhoto Library folder for a folder titled "Import Files" or "Import" or something like that. I don't remember the exact title. It will be in the first window of the iPHoto Library folder. If you find it, move it to the desktop and import the photos from there. Once imported and you're sure the library is working as intended you can delete that folder.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • 2GB 2nd gen holding more music than 8GB 4th gen

I bought a new 8GB 4th generation ipod nano to replace my 2GB 2nd generation nano but when a went to transfer my music over not all of it would fit, on the 2nd gen I have 365 songs with free space but the 4th gen has 188 songs with only 1.63GB free space, I have no videos or tv shows on the ipod, only music. why has this happened?

    Hello ppscissors,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Sounds like quite the problem. If I may ask, what format are the songs in? It may not really apply to the situation, but it never hurts to ask and get all the details.
Maybe try completing reformatting the iPod using the tools provided by your OS and then restoring the iPod via iTunes. From there, try reloading the songs to your iPod and see if that helps.
Here are instructions on how to reformat your iPod (whether you have Windows or a Mac)

  • ITunes shows that I have more music than I actually do

OK, so when I go to check out how many gigs of music I have on my Macbook through iTunes it says I have 834 songs or about 10 gigs of music, but when I click get info on iTunes in Finder it says that I have over 3,000 items that take up 20 gigs. Why does my music take up twice as much space as it should?

I've searched everywhere too for a solution and I finally caved in and restored my phone after backing up all of my photos to iPhoto. It's a pain, but it freed up about 6GB on my phone.

  • How do you manage to sync your music with your iPhone/iPod?

    Hello everyone!
I want to ask you how you manage to keep your music library synced with your iPhone/iPod.
For years I managed to copy music onto the iOS device manually as my iTunes library was way to large to fit my iOS device.
Some months ago I created a playlist called "iPhone music". Then I created smart playlists which amongst others followed the rule "Playlist is iPhone music". That works so far and makes sure I do not try syncing more music than I have space on my iPhone (I always have an eye on the "iPhone music" playlist).
But maybe anyone of you uses a better and smarter way? Thanks for any ideas and suggestions!

    Then be more specific.
Creat a list with your top rated trance music, or put a keyword in certain songs and make smart playlists using keywords or simply limit the size of the smart playlist.
You can make =these playlist in just about any manner you wish.  They are very flexible.

After syncing my music to iPhone my music only appears in iTunes as purchased rather than my music

In my iTunes I have my music organized into playlists. Before when I synced my iPod to iTunes it exactly duplicated the music / playlists exactly as they appear in my iTunes. Now I have more music than my iPod can hold at once, so I've unchecked some songs within various playlists. The problem is that after I sync my iPod, it has all the checked songs, but they're no longer organized in the playlists. Can something be done to fix this?
Delete some of your songs off of the iPod Nano to make more room.
