  • Why can't I sync more than one computer?  This is a serious design flaw.

I have a macbook and so does my wife. So, who gets to sync and who ends up in the streaming ghetto? This is a pretty crappy design choice. We should both be able to sync to a combined library on the appletv so that we don't have to fight over who gets a less convenient experience on the appletv.
You can call it the "marriage saver".

You just need to get two Apple TV's and perhaps an HDMI switch so you can easily go back and forth between the two without having to buy another TV. Instead of getting a switch one person could use HDMI and the other could use component output but that might cause some problems as well. If you're only going to use Synching then AppleTV looks just like an iPod and you both need one of your own. It really isn't as ridiculous as it sounds since it's $50 cheaper than the 80GB video iPod.
Maybe you should both agree to stream. It works really well. Perhaps set up a common iTunes to synch from. Good luck .. I've got similar issues with both kids and wife! So I've an AppleTv in the Den for the kids (synched with Kids stuff) and in the Family room we have another AppleTV synched with more grown up stuff. To go back and forth we just stream to the other library.

  • Syncing my ipod to more than one computer

My daughter has an ipod & was synced with our computer. Then she went to her friend's house & wanted to buy some music on her friend's itunes account. It erased all of the music & movies she'd bought on our computer & now it says if we try to sync it to our computer it will erase all the music she bought from her friend's account. I tried to set it up to sync with more than one computer but no luck. I used the Store-Authorize Computer function to no avail. I don't want to sync it back to our computer if she's going to lose everything she bought at her friend's, but I hate the thought of all this stuff she's bought here that now she can't reload, and if she loses what she bought there, so be it; more money was spent here than there. Any advice? Help will be appreciated. Thanks! sylvanchick

You can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod
You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7.3 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual. Once you are safely connected you can transfer the purchased songs to your computer. The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer

Can you sync an Ipod nano 5th generations with more than one computer.  One is a Dell with xp operating system and the other is an Mac laptop.

It is possible to sync your iPod with multiple computers, but syncing with different platforms is not supported by Apple.  See this article for more details on how to get this set up.

  • Can i sync my iphone and ipod's to more than one computer?

Can i sync my iphone 4 and ipod's (we have #) to more than one compute? so we call all share the music.
Also can you inport music from an ipod to itunes? (music has already been deleted from the library)

Switching the computer will erase your device and replace the content of it with the content of the new iTunes library. But you can share your music by using Home Sharing. iTunes: Understanding Home Sharing
Purchased music can be copied back by using "transfer purchases" from the iTunes menu or, if not purchased from iTunes, by using 3rd party software http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

How can I use my iPod nano on more than one computer?

    Hi, China6450.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend setting up Manually manage music.  This will only allow music to be synced from the computer to the iPod nano.  Here are some helpful articles that will walk you through the process.

I want to sync my I Pod on a laptop but we also have it installed on a desktop. When we try to sync with the laptop, I Tunes says that the i pod is already synced with another computer and wants us to deleate that computer. Can I tunes be synced to more than one computer and if so, how do you do that.

What you'll want to do is manually manage the iPod, in order to put content onto it from multiple computers.

  • How to use ipod w/ more than one computer

I am new to ipod. I set it up on my laptop, and have all uploaded my cds to my ipod from there. I do nat have internet at home, so tried using my parents computer. How do you use the ipod with another computer that doesn't have all your songs on it? When I go to sync it, it ask if i want to delete all my ipod songa and replace with the ones on the other computer. I am trying to get album artwork. What am I not doing right?

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library. Even when manually managing an iPhone, you can only add content from one iTunes library.

Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Syncing more than one ipod

my son put music on daughter ipod from his computer if i conect it to my itunes on my computer will she lose everything.can i add her content to my itunes and have her's and my content together

The title of your post and the content of your post appear to contradict each other. One seems to be about using multiple iPods and the other about using one iPod with multiple computers.
However, going with the content rather than the title. Just note, if you have an iPod shuffle it can only be used with one library/computer:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
If the iPod is currently set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to a different iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
If at any point you get a message that your iPod is linked to another library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Once the iPod is safely connected you can change it to manual management.

  • Apple won't let me sync with more than one computer

How crazy is it that Apple will not let you sync with more than one computer! I have three computers! One in the kitchen one in my room and one at my parents house. These are all my computers, but if I try to sync my iphone5! with my computer at my parents house itunes says it will erase all my data! I have legally purchased all my music, so I have bought the rights! which means I can have the same songs on mutiply computers.
I've seen posts like this before, so I know Im not the only one who knows that this is unexceptable! Apple knows too! So heres how we gonna do this, **** itunes and **** apple, they can suck it! I'm sick of Apple and how they try to control everything you do, with their limited youtube video capacity because they "dont allow flash".
All Apple care about is taking your money, otherwise they would listen to what their customers are saying. These posts are on an apple site after all.
Thats my opinion, vote this up if you feel the same way.
    Thanks

I understand what you mean.  If you would have a little more technical background to what is happening when you sync and iOS device, you would understand that the reason for syncing with only one computer is not to control you but is rather to manage the syncing.
For exemple, how would you manage to backup a device on multiple computer while some songs or apps are on your iOS device but not on the computer?  Copying them back to the computer would only result in what you don't want, keeping different iTunes library on different computer.
    The very best solutions for you is either;
Make one of your iTunes library the master with ALL your media files and use this one for syncing your device.  You can easily manage all your music using automated playlist (like one for all the music with an older date you would decide).
Pay for iTunes match and ALL your song (even those you haven't bought from iTunes) to be available in the cloud for you to stream directly to your iPhone.  This however have a monthly fee.
I agree that on one thing Apple is controlling; it's by not allowing you to extract songs from an iPod.  Giving home sharing now, that would solely restrict you from illegally copying music to others.  But again, you must understand that this limitation isn't to be powerfreak, it have been required to secure the music industries and make iTunes Store possible in the first place.
And make shure you active Home Sharing as it will give you full access (stream and copy over wi-fi from any computer and iOS devices) in between your iTunes libraries.

  • Can't seem to sync with more than one computer???

I loaded I-tunes on my laptop and then tried to load on my desktop computer with no luck. Can you only sync through one computer or am I missing something?

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you just need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos". You can't sync from more than one library.
