Syncing Movies & TV Shows

Ok, I just got a new iPod 30G video, and I want to put movies and tv shows on it without syncing them to the iPod. if I have the sync button unchecked on the options it won't let me just add specific movies and shows. I guess I wouldn't mind syncing them with that option cause it does let me under the sync options to sync what movies i want to, but when I do this it adds a weird playist called Front Row that has the movies in it. I don't want that, I just want them in the Movies and TV Shows section. If there is a manual way of doing this that I am doing wrong tell me! THANKS

sorry!!! i'm a dingleberry and didn't check manually manage music and videos! sorry my bad! got it fixed

  • Syncing movies, tv shows and music

Weird sync problems. 1) every time I sync iPad, it makes another copy of my pictures and adds them to my iPad library; 2) my iPad status shows storage used for my movies and music but sync it really took them all off; 3) if I deselect sync movies, music and then deselect them before syncing ,all my media will be available to see on iPad. Wierd. Suggestions? Otherwise I LOVE MY IPAD!!! Hugely.

I'm seeing something similar. After syncing, although itunes reports no errors, the ipad has no music or videos. If I fully power off the ipad and back on immediately before syncing, the music and videos reappear (this is quite repeatable). The sync operations are much too fast to be copying or deleting 27Gb each time.
There's about 14Gb of music and about 13GB of movies and tv shows, a combination of itunes purchases and Handbrake-encoded videos. The status bar in iTunes shows this much space taken up by music and videos, but the ipad About page shows 0 tunes and 0 movies.
Unlike the OP, though, I don't see a problem with photos. There's about 1.84Gb of photos, and that figure seems stable.
    I'm using a 64GB+3G iPad and iTunes 9.1.1.12 on Windows 7.

  • Trouble Syncing Movies/TV Shows in iTunes with iPad 2

I have read serveral posts on here with similar questions, however, none of the responses have resolved my issue.
I am having trouble loading movies and TV shows from my MacBook Air to my iPad 2.
I have a MacBook Air (running 10.7.2 with iTunes 10.5.1).   I am unable to sync certain movies and TV shows to my iPad (running iOS 5.0.1).  These are files purchased from the iTunes Store.  There is also a 27" iMac and MacBook Pro associated with my Apple ID.
Syncing the device yields an error message reading "Some of the items in the iTunes library, inlcuding "The Help", were not copied to the iPad "DGaken's iPad" because you are not authorized for them on this computer.  To authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store, chose Store > Auhtorize This Computer."
Files that have been affected include recently purchased movies and TV episodes (including "The Help, a season pass of "Parks & Recreation, and "30 Minutes or Less."  Each file was purchased in iTunes using the same Apple ID.  When I click on "My Account" in the iTunes Store and click the "Manage Devices" on the iCould tab I can see that my iPad 2 is listed as a device associated with my Apple ID.  I have confirmed (by clicking on the actual file in iTunes and click "Get Info") that the files are associated with my Apple ID.
Now, for the TV episodes I am able to visit the iTunes store on my iPad and click "buy" on them, then it informs me that I have already purchased this item and asks if I want to download it again.  For movies it does let me know that I have previously purchased the item, but instead it offers me the opportunity "Buy Item Again?"
I have also clicked "Deauhorize All Computers" in the iTunes store and re-authorized each device and computer.
It should also be noted that I recently changed my Apple ID (form a .edu address to a Gmail account as my .edu server was unable to work with iCloud).  There seems to be no correlation between which items.
    Please advise!

I have the exact same problem. I've tried all the trouble shooting that was suggested by the people I spoke with at the Genius Bar, Apple Care, and iTunes, but nothing has worked and no one seems to know how to resolve this issue. To their suprise, all of my devices have been activated (then deactivated and re-activated twice) for this account and all movies were purchased with the same account via iTunes, yet I still get the same error message that you get. I was also told to delete the movie file from my computer and redownload it and sync again, but that also did not work.
I've even tried downloading movies via icloud directly to my iPad as a temporary work around. This works, but when I sync my iPad again to my computer, I get the error message again and the movie is automatically erased from my device. Please let me know if you were able to resolve the issue, I don't know where else to turn and I'm tired of explaining this on the phone to everyone!!! Mahalo.

  • Manually Sync movies/tv shows and auto sync music

Is there a way to manually manage my movies and tv-shows but maintain auto-sync with my music? I have the box unchecked on movies and tv shows and it won't let me drag and drop any movies onto my ipod.

Yeah, I attempted that, too, because there are only some TV shows I want to watch, and it seems to avoid them regardless of what option I choose.
I tried to mix it up, but it just disabled the "manually manage", so I just use the "sync only checked" options and uncheck the things I don't want the iPod to sync.

  • ITunes will not sync movies/tv shows to iPod

I was getting error -69 when I tried to sync my iPod about a week ago, and so none of my music was syncing. I managed to fix the problem, and so now I've got music and pictures on my iPod, but I can't get any of my videos to sync.

  • Movies not showing up on movie sync screen??

I downloaded the digital copy of Harry Potter, and a special features "movie" came with it as well.  Part one, part two and the special feature movie shows up in iTunes as movies, but when I try to sync them, the special features "movie" does not show up. I have tried adding it to different playlists, changing the name, making its own playlist, but nothing is working.  Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks!

All four of the movies that show up on the ATV are on the external drive.  So, I'm not sure what difference moving them to the Mini would have.
And I was mistaken about one small thing.  None of the four are movies that I've bought from Apple.  They are all movies that I've imported.  And I used the same settings on them all when I imported them, so it should be a frame rate issue or anything along those lines.
I have it set to Automatic Sync, so the "show only synced items..." check box is unavailable to me (it's greyed out).  I'll try changing that option to a custom sync.  And make sure it's unchecked.

  • Movie Art not showing for synced movies, only for streamed ones

Movie art is shown correctly in iTunes and while streaming, but not on the movies synced (these show poster frame). The only 'movies' that show correctly their movie art in iTunes, streaming and synced are TV Shows, which has lead me to think that the size of the .m4v has something to do. I have to do tests to determine the posible size limit, but for now all the TV Shows have a file size less than 2GB. I'll try to do some testing as soon as work allows me to get back to a normal life, (T_T)

Back again with some initial findings:
    1. Size of the file does not matters. It shows the poster frame for .m4v files of any size.
    2. Taking again into account your post, I checked every detail between the ripped TV shows and the ripped DVD movies and everything was the same except one small detail: audio settings. The ripped TV shows had an original Dolby Surround soundtrack, so I encoded them choosing the 'Dolby Surround' audio mix setting in the encoding program while with the ripped DVD movies that had an original Dolby Digital 5.1 I choose the '6 Channel Discrete' AAC 5.1 audio mix.
Noticing this difference, I tried encoding one of the previous movies that had the movie art issue using the same settings, but changing the audio mix setting from '6 Channel Discrete' AAC 5.1 to 'Dolby Pro Logic II'. Imported it to iTunes, applied the Movie cover art, synced with the Apple TV and there was the movie art in the Appke TV.
I'm gonna try again with different movies, but it seems, preliminarily, that the AAC 5.1 encoding setting does something to how the Apple TV sees the movie art in the file tags even though iTunes sees it alright.
I'll let you know what results come out of my tests.
    Thanks again.

  • Movies & TV shows from iTunes Store won't sync to TV

I have a late 2009 TV 160GB and I have recently noticed that all of my movies and TV shows that I have bought from the iTunes store are not on the TV anymore. My computer s authorised and I am logged into my iTunes account on the TV. I have tried erasing it and restoring it's factory settings but nothing will work. I have made sure that all the checkboxes on the movies and shows are checks and have re-synced the TV and they are still not appearing. Please help, this is getting really frustrating.

  • ATV WILL NOT sync movies or TV shows

I've seen threads that talk around this, but never this exact problem. I had 2 TV shows and 1 movie on iTunes synced to ATV. I purchased another movie 2 weeks ago, and when I tried to sync, it says it is doing it, but the indicator never moves, and it quits after awhile. I have de-authorized and re-authorized my iTunes account, re-established my connection with ATV with a new passcode, and even completely reset ATV. I am able to sync all music on iTunes and all iPhoto photos. I have access to Flicker and You Tube. I am using an iMac G5 Power PC running 10.4.11. The ATV communicates over my wireless Airport Extreme network. Any thoughts? I think I've tried almost everything!!

I am also having this problem. TV shows seem to be ok. 1 purchased movie has synced. I have a total of 4 movies. the one purchased movie is showing in the ATV devices section of itunes in the purchased and purchased on apple tv folder. it also appears in the movies folder on itunes. The other 3 movies do not show in the purchased folder or purchased on ATV in the ATV folder in itunes. They do appear on the ATV device however. I have read some posts indicate that movies cannot be synced from ATV to Itunes when purchased on ATV. I do not believe this to be true and because one movie is on itunes and ATV in itunes and I am able to sync back and forth with ATV through itunes. I have had a hardware change to my system with the Airport extreme but it is still letting me sync the one movie back and forth. It seems odd that the other movies are not showing up in my purchased folder in itunes.

  • I just noticed that some of the movies I had in iTunes did not get transferred to the iPhone. The missing movies are shown as generic movie icons in the iTunes panel. How do I get the original movies to show up again and transfer to the iPhone?

I just noticed that some of the movies I had in iTunes did not get transferred to the iPhone 5. The missing movies are shown as generic movie icons in the iTunes panel and are checked to select them. But they do not show up in iPhone Videos. How do I get the original movies to show up again and transfer to the iPhone? I recently upgraded Mac OS to 10.6.8

    1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
    2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.

  • Movies, TV Shows, Music Videos from iCloud not showing up in Videos app

So I just did a reset on my iPhone because the movie artwork for the movie Love Actually was a picture of Adele's album artwork and it really bothered me. All the other movies in the Videos app was fine, they all matched to their respective titles. So I did a reset hoping that would fix that tiny minor issue but after doing the reset and restoring, None of the movies I've purchased in the past are showing up. All it says is "No Content. You can download videos from the iTunes Store." And I did go into the Videos settings to make sure "Show All Videos" is being set to on (green) but it still did nothing, none of my movies, tv shows, or music videos are showing up in the cloud. This really irritates me because I had one small issue that I was hoping to fix but now a new problem has risen and it's going to bug the **** out of me more than the original problem did. I tried turning it off and turining it back on, signing in and out of iTunes account, and pressing the power button and the home button at the same time, but still nothing from iCloud has appeared, Is anybody else having this issue? FYI, I also have the latest update 7.0.4 but I don't think that should have caused this issue. If anybody knows a solution, please let me know because as you can see, I'm very OCD about this, I like to see all my videos in the Videos app.

This was driving me nuts, but I figured it out. Here's how to fix:
    1) Create (or find) a thumbnail image that represents the series to you (I put text over a screenshot) in Photoshop or whatever you like to use, and put it on the clipboard
    2) In iTunes, select all the episodes from your series in the TV Shows view, right click, and select "Get Info"
    3) On the first tab ("Info") click in the artwork field, then paste in the thumbnail
    4) THIS IS THE KEY STEP - With your iPad plugged into your Mac, go to the TV shows tab and uncheck "Sync TV Shows" and then apply the new settings, and say okay when it tells you all your TV shows will be removed from your iPad
    5) After the sync is complete, check to make sure all your TV shows are gone (in the video app, there shouldn't even be a tab for TV Shows)
    6) In iTunes, check Sync TV Shows again, then apply
Once the sync is complete, your TV Shows will hopefully show up with good thumbnails.
The issue seems to be that once a file has been copied over, updating the thumbnail image in iTunes will NOT force an update on the iPad, and in the TV Shows view there are no captions on the main screen. You have to delete all the files to wipe the DB on the iPad.

  • Digital version of movie only shows on one device

So I bought my Mac Book last summer I can't remember if I added the digital version (from the DVD) of a movie that I have on my PC or my Mac.  But since LAST year the movie showed on my computer, iPad and Apple TV. Today it "disappeared" from everything but my computer. I also checked to see if the movie would show up on my iPhone. I had that featured turned off, but I went into settings and turned it on to see if it would show up. Nope!!! I even bought a tv show and movie to "test" if they would sync all three devices (Mac, iPad and Apple TV). They did but I can't figure out for the life of me why this movie went away. I still have the DVD and I thought if I deleted the movie from my computer I could re add it.
But when I put in the DVD it just plays. I can't even remember how I added the digital copy and I wasn't given any prompts to do anything.
I called Apple (before I bought the movie and TV show) and they said that they would send an e-mail to a link help me. I'm still waiting on that, but I thought that I would come here to see if anyone could help me.
Hopefully, someone here has experienced this. Cause this is driving me crazy.

Thanks!! I'll have to try can call them back.  It makes no sense how it can be there one day and gone the next. I even tried to reset the factory settings on my Apple TV and that didn't work. Do they usually give you an answer if your warranty has expired? They mention something about paying for them to "fix" it.
I have resisted really tackling the issue of the missing stuff, simply because you stated that you were actually 'talking' with Apple ( " I called Apple" ) - so at present, let's stick with the Apple <> You correspondence...
Warranty info should be at their fingertips for the asking.
If out of warranty, repairs cost $ and some problems deemed caused by the User MIGHT. If all this happened after "I woke up today and poof!" (i.e., you did nothing at all) - it must be related to some update you had allowed or sought out - that seems to be an Apple responsibility. I have never been charged (or heard of someone being charged) because of anomalies caused by an update - they may not be able to fix 'em without a fix in an version update though.

  • Sharing an Apple ID for movies/tv shows only?

My husband and I are currently both running iPhones (4 for him, 4S for me) and two brand new iPads.  We have separate iCloud accounts and apple IDs because we both had older iPhones before we met.
The only thing we really wish to share is movies/tv shows, as we don't really use the same apps and listen to different music mostly (I rarely download music from iTunes to begin with).  I have never downloaded any movies, so in that regard I'm starting fresh, but now that we have the iPads I would like to watch our growing movie collection which is all under his apple ID.  I don't mind using his apple ID for everything from the app store/iTunes from now on if it makes things easier, but how can I keep the apps I have already downloaded to my iPad?  I don't plan to download any movies to my iPhone and no music will go on the iPad, so I don't mind continuing to purchase music from my own apple ID and using that on my iPhone, and using my husbands apple ID for my iPad, but I have already paid for several apps and I'd rather not lose them, nor do I want his app purchases syncing to my iPad.  (I do, however, want app purchases to sync from my iPhone to my iPad.)  Is there a way for me to get our movies to my iPad with a computer?  Really, what is the simplest way for me to watch our movies without having to use the same apple ID?  What do you all recommend for us?
Sub question- is there a way to combine ALL previous purchases (music, apps, movies, tv) on our shared desktop and then select manually what syncs to each device?
This whole not being able to sync more than one Apple ID to a device for 90 days is really killing me.  That does apply to apps as well, right?

That actually has very little to do with my original question.
For anyone with the same problem I had, I did eventually make the leap and it turned out to be an easy solution for us.  Since I had never bought any movies and rarely buy music (which is oodles more transferrable than movies and tv anyhow) I just started using my husband's account for everything.  The issue I was worried I would have- not being able to update apps and such- turned out to be moot, since the updater just prompts me for the password to whichever account the app was originally downloaded under.  So never fear, if you decide to use one out of two accounts you will still be able to update apps and not worry about that 90-day switch.
This will become an issue someday when we upgrade our stuff, but at that point I'll probably just bite the bullet and re-purchase any apps I hadn't bought under his ID.

  • Newly addes movies/tv shows into iTunes don't appear on Apple TV

I don't know whether I am the only one seeing this problem...
I have been converting my DVDs to H.264 format using Handbrake/DVDFab and then I add them to iTunes library. My iTunes is setup for Custom Sync with syncing enabled ONLY for the Music. This means my movies/TV Shows/Podcasts are all setup for "Streaming". However, when I access "My Movies" or "My TV Shows", I still see the old list (none of the newly added titles are shown).
I have to shutdown iTunes and relaunch for the list to get refreshed in ATV.
Do you observe this as well?
I continue to be plagued with the disappearing ATV under iTunes.

You appear to have two separate issues here, the first, the one with your firewall is causing most of the issues and error messages you see. Have you checked your firewall settings to see if they are as they should be.
The other issue of new content not being updated is a minor but annoying issue compared with the first. I can't say whether or not it will eventually update content if you simply leave it alone. My wife and kids are not that patient and have me hit sync within a few minutes of new content being added.
