Syncing multiple machines for advanced smart playlists

Okay, here's my issue, I just got a new Mac Pro and I have copied my iTunes library to the new MP from my older Macbook Pro.
I want to find an easy way to sync any purchases / additions to the new one when I get home without manually copying and pasting to the MP from the MBP.
Also, I have a pretty long list of rules on some smart playlists to filter songs I don't want in it. Mainly by way of checked status in iTunes. This makes it easier to shorten playlists that I then sync to my iTouch. My question for this second topic; can I also sync the checked status of my entire library without copying and pasting from one machine to another?
Thanks for any thoughts!

any ideas?

  • How to turn on / off live updating for all smart playlists at once?

Hello.  Is there a way to turn live updating on or off for all my smart playlists at once?  That would be a fantastic feature since too many smart playlists with live updating turned on brings iTunes to a crawl.
Currently, I run iTunes on Windows 7.  I have over 40,000 songs, and I have hundreds of smart playlists to help organize all my songs and what's on my various iPods at any time.  The problem with having so many smart playlists is that iTunes runs very slow.  One thing that I do to make iTunes run slightly faster is to turn off live updating for as many smart playlists as I can stand (by going into each one and editing), but then it's hard to tell which have live updating turned on and which don't.  As a result, many of my smart playlists don't get updated when I would like them to because I have to go in and manually edit each one again to turn it back on.  Maybe showing which have live updating turned on or off would be useful, too?
On a related note, my iPod Classic will actually not work when I sync too many smart playlists.  This has been a long-standing problem with iPods, and I'm surprised that it hasn't been fixed yet.  I have not experimented to see if it makes any difference if the smart playlists have live updating turned on or off.
    Thanks.

this is exactly what i was hoping to see -- but i can't get it to run right on iTunes 12, yosemite
it also doesn't seem to recognize "Home Videos" or "Audiobooks" as special and tries to turn them off -- i modified the earlier script to add those two to the lists of exclusions, but still get the same error message on the first "unspecial/real" smart playlist -- hasn't somethign changed in the object model perhaps?
    thank you muchly!

  • Anyone have a work around for sorting Smart Playlists in Match?

So I was surprised by changing a couple criteria in some smart playlists, they sync to my iPhone.  Obviously from reading around here, play counts are not updating when played with match and are ignored by the iOS device.  Also, sorting seems to be totally random regardless of how the playlist is setup in iTunes.
Anyone got any tricks for these things?
    Thx

Bootcamp made the partition and provided the drivers, that is all, it doesn't 'run' anything
Here are instructions from Microsoft on using the Windows System Image:
To restore using a Windows installation disc
Use this method if your computer came with a Windows installation disc.
Insert the installation disc, and then restart your computer by clicking the Start button , clicking the arrow next to the Lock button , and then clicking Restart. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, see Start Windows from a CD or DVD for instructions about how to do this.
Press any key when prompted to do so.
Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    Click Repair your computer.
Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    Note
If you are restoring a 64-bit system using a 32-bit Complete PC backup or a 32-bit system using a 64-bit Complete PC backup and have more than one operating system installed, you should not select an operating system. If an operating system is selected by default, clear the selection by clicking a blank area of the window, and then click Next.
On the System Recovery Options menu, click Windows Complete PC Restore, and then follow the instructions.
    Note
Insert the last CD or DVD of the backup set when prompted to do so.

  • Workaround for iPhone smart playlist bug

There is a bug (do a search for smart playlist in this forum) with smart playlists not displaying the correct songs on the iPhone.
I just tried something that seems to have worked...
I have a playlist in iTunes called "Recently Added" which I want to keep synced with my iPhone.
I created a new smart playlist called "Recently Added (iPhone)". The playlist has one rule: "Playlist is Recently Added" with live updating checked.
I now sync this second playlist with the iPhone and all the correct songs show up in it.

    Excellent idea Jeff.
Your approach works for the same reason that my original idea works.
The inclusion of another playlist as a condition in a smart playlist, causes the playlist to become "rasterized" or static.
The developers wanted smart playlists to be really smart - instead of copying a static list of songs from the smart playlist to the iPhone/Pod, they simply send the definition of the playlist to the iPhone and let it calculate which songs from it's own library belong on it.
The nice thing about their approach is that the playlists will continue to live update on the Phone in-between syncs - so if you have a playlist called "Last 25 played" it will have the last 25 played songs on your iPhone, instead of the last 25 played songs that you played in iTunes.
The problem of course, is that there's a bug in the way the iPhone calculates these rules (probably related to the porting of code to a new architecture).
So why does this fix work?
Well, my theory is that when you create a smart playlist that references another playlist, iTunes simply calculates the songs that should appear on the smartplaylist and sends a literal list to the iPhone/Pod.
This solves the problem that would be created if you only sync the parent playlist, and not the playlists it references. (IE, if you would want to be able to sync the "25 most played" playlist without also having to sync the "MusicOnly" playlist).

  • How do you set up nested rules for iTunes smart playlist

How do you set up nested rules for a iTune smart playlist

    Hello \"alice\",
It sounds like you want to add additional criteria to your Smart Playlists.  I found an article with steps you can use to refine your Smart Playlist.  Step 2 specifically has what I think you are looking for:
    2. To have iTunes add songs that match specific criteria, make sure to select "Match the following rule," then make your selections from the pop-up menus.
For example, you might want iTunes to only add songs that are by a particular artist, or songs with at least a four-star rating.
To add additional matching criteria, click the Add button.
You can find the full article here:
iTunes: How to create a Smart Playlist
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1801
The article says it is archived.  In the current version of iTunes, in step 1 you will select File>New>Smart Playlist.  Also, if you need to edit an existing Smart Playlist, you can right click (or hold command while you click) on it and select Edit Smart Playlist.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • Planning multiple machines for one planned order

    Hi,
presently, we have 30 machines in single operation, business wants to plan and confirm the production order with individual machines ( Workcenter ), we have tried individual workcenter creation and make the routing with 30 machines and planner has be determine the machines while converting the production order fron planned order , but it is having problem , if we select the same workcenter in operation like for exmple we want carried out the production on workcenter 10,15,16, 20 respectively. but in actual if business want to confirm the operation 30 before operation 20, again it is problem in confirmation even we permit to user to allow the operation,
please suggestion me to define this scenario in discrete MFG.

    Hi Patel,
If you want to have confirmations in sequence then in OPK4 for the combination of plant and order type under General Valid Settings - Under Operation sequence maintain" Error when operation sequence is not adhered to". With this settings if user tries to confirm operation 0030 before operation 0020 is confirmed system will throw error message.
In case you have planned on X work center, but actual producion happened on Y work center, then there is also option available during confirmation in CO11N to change the workcenter as Y through changing the Confirmation profile.Go To T.code OPK0 and in Area Selection select 0410 Personnel :Incl Work center , Wage Group as a one of the selected area
Please let me know if anything is required.

  • Match does not sync new songs on a Smart Playlists to iPhone. This has worked in the past, but stopped with 12.1.

I have tried to turn Match off and on several times on both the computer (iTunes 12.1.0.50) and iPhone 6 (64 GB).  It syncs correctly to my laptop, but not to iPhone 6 or 2nd Gen iPad (64GB) both running IOS 8.1.3.  This seemed to work fine prior to iTune 12.1 on year old iMac.  The only workaround I've found is to download the song to the phone (the songs do show up in the song listing).  It then shows up in the playlist.  However, I may not want all my music stored on the iPhone so this is not really workable.

When a new bookmark is added to one "device", Sync immediately sends that change to the Sync Server. And if you are watching a different "device" you should see the newly saved bookmark almost immediately. ''At least I have seen it happen that fast when Syncing between two Profiles on my desktop PC and I had both Profiles running and Tiled vertically, with the Bookmarks Sidebar open.''
Keep in mind that internet congestion and Sync Serve load may slow then seemingly "immediate" action down a bit.
As far as '''Tab''' Sync goes, open Tabs are Sync'd to the Server as Firefox is closed. I'm not sure, but I believe '''Tab History''' is Sync'd to the Server as each tab is closed.
I'm not sure if a complete Tab History is Sync'd to a tablet device, or if like on a mobile phone the last 25 or so URL's are sync'd as "history" to the mobile device.
Sorry, I can't advise you on whether to purge your data or to create another Sync account, I have never used those features. I am surprised that you don't have another email account to use to set up a 2nd account; it isn't that hard to create another email account at Gmail.

  • [SOLVED] How to quick sync multiple machines?

I've installed archlinux on my 3x32 bit and 2x64 bit machines.
Is there a method to quick install package?
These machines are on the same network.
I wish one machine 'POOL' could be a proxy package location.
To save energy, I only power on POOL when required.
I don't want mirror all package files in Arch Mirrors.
There are requirement for x86_64 & i686 repository requirement.
    Is there any convenient method?
    Thanks for reply

  • Smart Playlists not syncing correctly

All of my iTunes smart playlists are not syncing correctly on my 3rd gen. iPod touch. I have iTunes 9, and the latest iPod touch software (3.1.2) and nothing is correct.
For example on my "Top 25 Most Played" there are songs that I have listened to only once, and some, zero times! In the "Recently Added" playlist, there are songs that I added years ago!
How will this get fixed? I thought maybe 3.1.2 would fix it, but obviously it didn't. I remember this happened to me when I first got my first gen. iPod touch, but that sorted itself out in about a week. I've now had the third gen. iPod touch for a month now.

thanks for posting this link to Apple officially responding to this issue. although these are good workaround solutions, they are still just workaround solutions. it seems there remains a bug when the "live updating" option is selected for a smart playlist. this is one of the most obvious/major bugs I have seen in Apple software (and it's not that big of a deal, so that says a lot about the quality of Apple software).

  • ITunes won't sync smart playlists

So I have 8 smart playlists plus 6 normal playlists in my iTunes, it's all been working well and it's been syncing all of them until about a week ago. After I synced it, I noticed that only the normal playlists were on the ipod, not the smart ones while they are still showing in itunes, I tried re-syncing but it didn't work, I still only have normal playlists.... PLEASE HELP!

After some experimentation I have a solution that I find satisfactory for a smart playlist containing only podcasts, and not referencing any other playlist, AND still leaves the "Live Updating" checkbox selected.
    What I did was...
    - removed any references to other playlists in the Smart Playlist options.
    - changed it to "Genre" "IS" "Podcast"
    - added "Plays "Is Less Than" "1"
    - Selected "Limit to" (in my case 25) "items" checkbox. (I coincidentally, also chose "by Artist" but it didn't matter.)
    - Unselected the playlist, under the Podcasts tab, while the iPhone was connected...
-- Sync'ed the iPhone once without it selected.
-- reselected the Playlist under the Podcast tab of the iPhone options, and
--- re-synced with the playlist now selected again.
I have to say I am more than pleased that it not only is keeping the same order in iTunes as well as on the iPhone, but it also removes ON-THE-FLY! the podcasts as I completed listening to them - in the iPhone, without any sort of syncing enabled.  I had always hoped that would work someday.
    Thank you Apple.

  • Smart Playlist for "X Most Recent Albums"?

    Hi guys!
I'd love a way to craft a Smart Playlist that would give me X number (say, 5) of the most recently-added albums. I find I'm constantly adding a new album, making an individual playlist for that album, and then syncing it to my iPhone.
I've poked around in the Smart Playlist creator, but I just didn't see a way to do this. Am I too sleep-deprived to spot something obvious?
    Thanks!
    Huxley

But I think the original post is looking for a smart playlist that'll do this - that'll automatically include the most recently added albums, so when one album is added, the sixth most recent album stops being synced. Yes, he can manually add albums, but that's not what he's after, I think.
That being said - I can't help. I'm browsing right now in this area because I'm once again looking for a good way to "smart sync" Classical music (which is mainly organized by album, or at least by "groups"), and haven't yet found one.
Of course, you can make a smart playlist that is something like "Media Kind is Music", and limit it to 60 items selected by most recently added - that will give you roughly five albums, but it's not quite what you want.

  • Podcast Smart Playlist Sync - Fix

If your iPhone and iPad can't sync Smart Playlists:
I figured it out after a few hours in the One-to-One classes where they told me it couldn't be done.
    1. Go to "Edit Smart Playlist".
    2. Turn off "Live Updating".
    3. Go to Device then Podcasts.
    4. Option should show up to "Include Episodes from Playlist".
If "Live Updating" is on then the option to sync the playlist disapears from the device setup.
You just need to manually update the smart playlist every time before you sync it.

I found a potential work around. I am still testing it. Works via usb or wifi sync.
In music, make sure "Entire music library" is not selected. If you want music to sync pick the playlist you want.
In podcast, make sure "automatically include all unplayed" is not selected. You will need to pick select podcast only playlist to sync over.
I am suspecting the music sync is screwing up the smart playlist for podcast when you choose "Entire music library" or "automatically inclue all unplayed" is screwing up the music. Sometimes all my podcast playlist are removed from itunes, other times only a few of them. So by separating the sync out by their individual playlist I haven't had any problems yet, but i am still testing. There could be other unknown variables causing it to happen I haven't discovered.
But if you do find yourself with missing playlist and don't want to painstakingly re make them. Go into your <Previous iTunes Libraries> folder. There should be some previous backups of your past library to restore from.

  • My smart playlist in iTunes won't sync with my iPhone 4S

Like the title says, there are 3 playlists that won't sync to my iPhone (all Smart Playlists). I have it set up to where my "entire music library" syncs to my iPhone. Can anyone help me out?

  • Problem with smart Playlist after Upadte to 10.6 - PLEASE UPDATE SOON, Backup not possible

    Apple, Apple, Apple... (again)
Is it so difficult to let things, that are quite good, just there where they are??
After updating my iTunes, OS Lion and some other stuff 2 days ago, I have now a big problem with a smart Playlist in iTunes 10.6. Before updating all things was right.
The problem: Now, AFTER UPDATE, my Playlist ist totally empty!
Before they were over 2000 songs in it.
And because this is my major-smart-Playlist, which is established to my whole other Smart-Playlists, the other ones are also empty.
And this is not the first time Apple.
It´s good, if you - apple guys - just added something like new categories to sort of music (like "iCloud-Status" or some others).
BUT WHAT DID YOU THINK, WHEN YOU DELETED THE OPTION "VALUATION" - mh??? (I hope in english this is the word that used in Itunes - my iTunes is in German)
So I don´t mean the "lines" - I don´t know the right english word - when you see the music. There you can fade in "Album-Valuation" - new -  AND  "Valuation" - old.
But I mean in the options of the smart-playlists - THERE ARE ONLY "Album-Valuation"!!!!! What the heck....
EVERYONE NEEDS THE NORMAL Song-"Valuation" - and not the album (because normaly you decide by each track how good he is and not by the whole album).
You can let the Album ones in it, BUT PLEASE BRING THE NORMAL ONE BACK.
So, in my case, I tried to go back to iTunes 10.5.3 with my nice Time-Machine-Backup. So, but I couldn´t because there came a bug-message that said something like "It is not possible because OSX need the Programm".
    What is that?
I also couldn´t delete the iTunes app from my app-folder.
    So, and now?
I had to totally restore my volume !
What is that for a solution?!
So please think before you delete any functions, who is needed by many people.
And if you did, maybe ask some users, that uses  for example smart-playlists alot, if there is a problem about some changes, you want to add.
I hope anyone from Apple read this and also answer me. Because I´m upset about that.
In every iTunes-Update I am concerned about what will be after the update.
For example in the past, there was more than one changes in iTunes with the Valuation. First, there was just whole stars to set for every song. Than, after a long time, Apple decided to give the options for also half stars. So I said to myself - hey that´s great, that I don´t have to use external apps anymore to set these. So I did this to many of my songs (and that´s many).
Than - after an Update - wow, all half stars rating are gone ! Great Apple, really great.
    I was VERY upset.
So after an other update, the opportunity to give half stars are back.
I thought, my god, it is so difficult to talk with other guys, that worked before on iTunes if I am new or just to look if there was already a change in that part of the app???
So, apple guys, please don´t think that I want to attack you. But please be more carefull in the future. I hope that I don´t have to worry too much about so stuff. I really have better things to do with my time.
    So, have a nice weekend.
    Greetings from Germany.

  • Smart Playlists not updating to my iPod

I've got a few Smart Playlists set up. They select by "Least Recently Played". The tunes that are listed for the Smart Playlists seem to follow the rules I created. When I listen to a bunch of tunes on my iPod and then Sync to iTunes, I don't get the Smart Playlists copied to the iPod.
I've got "Sync music" checked, the "Selected playlists" button is popped, and I've checked the Playlists I want to copy to my iPod.
Smart Playlists seem pretty cool, but if they only work once, they're not very helpful. What am I missing?
    Thanks.
    Mad Dave
      Windows XP

    Patrick,
I listened to "Chocolate Jesus" by Tom Waits on my way home from school tonight. I just synced up to my desktop. In iTunes I see the "last played" field has been updated with tonight. It isn't showing up in my smart playlist, but it is still on the iPod and on the iPod selection playlist in iTunes.
I don't know how to paste an image onto this posting, so I'll describe what's on the smart playlist window when I'm editing GenInfuser.
[Checked] Match [all] of the following rules:
Play Count is less than 5
    My Rating is not **
    My Rating is not *
    My Rating is not ***
    Playlist is GenCore
[checked] Limit to 1750 MB selected by least recently played
    [] Match only checked items
    [checked] Live updating.
Here's what I see for GenStation (the smart playlist that is supposed to be synced to the iPod):
[checked] Match any of the following rules:
    Playlist is GenInfuser
    Playlist is GenSprinkler
    [] Limit to ...
    [] Match only checked items
    [Checked] Live updating
I just tried checking "Limit to" 1750 MB least recently played on GenStation and it didn't start copying over new music. Actually it copied over 9 tunes. There's at least a couple hundred tunes that have been recently played on the iPod and several times that many on iTunes that have never been played.
I guess the other pertinent info is that I've got a 4 GB nano and I'm running iTunes 7.0.2.16.
    Thanks for your help, Patrick.
