Syncing music library

Ok, I recently updated my iphone 4 and I also wanted to change the music on it.  When I went through and manually chose songs, I couldn't get them all to sync.  I tried it A LOT, looking at all music settings.  I then tried to sync entire music library and it still won't.  All of the music is legal, from itunes purchases.  HELP!  I must be missing something!

I guess I could stream the music when I'm wanting my playlists. It just seems weird to have to stream the exact same music that's already on the Apple TV itself.
Can you think of another way I could maybe configure the music on my MAC to achieve the goal of 1 copy / 4 XML files to make it more friendly with the Apple TV?

  • Synced music library keeps vanishing!

Since the recent update I have noticed that the synced music library on my AppleTV keeps vanishing as if I don't have any music on it. In order to get it back, I need to go to Shared Music and then back to My Music on the AppleTV menu. The problem happens severa times a day. I have tried rebooting the AppleTV (in fact I usually have to reboot it at least once a week due to the fact in freezes).
Is the instability caused by having a second computer sharing its iTunes library with the AppleTV? It's getting abit irritating when you have listened to an album and then go back to select another album and find the whole music library has disappeared.

This problem seems to have been fixed with update 2.3 which I've been using for a numbers of days now
Pity about some of the other new problems introduced with update 2.3 though

  • Can't sync music library with iPod Touch

I gave my iPod to my son. He erased my music library and put his on. He gave iPod back. I erased all his music and tried to reload my music library. I updated iTunes from Apple website. Could not successfully transfer ANY music.
I searched through discussions and found some suggestions. I restored iPod to original settings, removed everything.
Apps I originally had on the iPod and some new ones synced beautifully. Music library would not. Unclicked manually managed iTunes. Unclicked Sync all iTunes in library. Clicked APPLY where applicable. Uninstalled iTunes on PC and reinstalled. iTunes will not sync.
I cannot put a checkmark on all songs in the library. The checkmarks will only go so far down and then quit. There are too many to do that manually.
it has 59.42 GB capacity, 4.3.1 software version.
So what do I do to syn my music library? And what are the exclamation marks appearing to the left of the column for check marks? Sometimes they appear and sometimes not.
I would appreciate any help you can give me. I am at my wit's end. Thank you.

For anyone who might read my post and have the same problem, the above link, second option to try work like a charm. I have my music back. I had to go looking for it and clicking on one of the pieces to play it in iTunes worked. Not all the music was located right away but it was still findable.

  • Problem syncing music library

    Hey,
I have my iTunes syncing to AppleTV on a custom sync, All my Movies and TV Shows have synced fine, but when I choose to sync my whole music library, it only syncs 229 items, when I have nearly 2000. Anyone know why this may be?
    Thanks,
    Oliver

Go to the folder/playlist - whatever....then go to EDIT SELECT ALL...then go to the first item on your list - right click - if it is already selected you'll have to uncheck selection, then do it again and choose check selection. It keeps the 'select all' option

  • Cannot sync music library after download apps from icloud

I just brought an ipad4. I used icloud to download my iphone apps into my ipad. However, doing such, I cannot not sync my music library. Please help! The strange things are that I can do it into my ipod and iphone 5

    Welcome to the discussions,
you can only sync to one itunes library at a time. If you change your computer or replace the HD and install a new OS, itunes will create a new library and the phone will not sync to this one unless it got erased before by itunes.
To get your music back to the phone make sure your new itunes is authorized in the Store menu: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420

  • Trouble syncing music library.

I recently noticed that some albums, songs and playlists are not syncing correctly from my Macbook Pro to my iPhone 4S. When I go into my music on the phone, I see some albums, songs and playlists listed, but when I go to play a song, it appears on the list in light grey text and will not open or play. I went to check on my laptop and the songs are still there and play just fine. Previously, these songs were able to be played on the phone and this problem seems to have occurred/coincided with my software update of iTunes. Anyone have any idea what's going on or how I might fix it? This problem seems random and is affecting only a small portion of my music library. It occurs with both songs/albums I purchased directly from iTunes and also with songs loaded from CD's. Last note: I synched manually by connecting to computer and did not sync via iCloud.

Update: After hours of looking for an answer and trying all things Apple, I noticed that at the bottom of the screen on the phone along with playlists, artists, songs, albums, there's also a button that says "More."  I clicked and went to "Shared" and noticed that there's two options: My iPhone and (my) Library. I switched from My Phone to Library and voila! Problem solved. I hope my hours of frustration can help someone else.

    Hi scotttwoodward1985,
I'm sorry to hear that your computer crashed--that's never any fun. You definitely may download Acrobat and reinstall it. You can download it from this page: Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Sync music library?

ok not sure how to explain this...I manually manage music on my ipod. I have sinced purchased music on itunes, and those are the only songs that show up in itunes library. How do i get my old music (before I switched to manual) to the itunes library so I can access it? I tried sync, but it said if I did that all my old songs would be deleted and the new songs in the library would be downloaded on my ipod. SO confused!! help!

    Hello Ebrie,
Are you positive you originally set your iPod up to manually manage music and videos from under the iPod's Summary pane?
Well one solution to this problem is to copy all the music currently on your iPod to your iTunes library, then [Restore the iPod via iTunes|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339], then start re-syncing all the old back to your iPod as well as the new. Like starting from scratch.
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • Syncing Music Library in 'Shared' Folder

Our music collection sits in the 'shared' user folder on our family MAC, and the iTunes in our individual accounts point to that folder. This way we only have 1 copy of the music but all have our own XML file for playlists and such.
Currently, the Apple TV is synced to my wife's account, and therefore only her playlists show. I already understand to get my playlists, the Apple TV will have to "de" sync from her account and sync to mine.
My question is... since the actual music files are identical between our accounts, will the Apple TV delete all those files and then recopy them? Or, will it say "hey, I already have these files" and therefore only delete and copy stuff that's not similar (eg. playlists)?
This is critical because it took almost 2 days to copy the music the first time. I don't want it taking 2 days to re-sync every time we need a different user's playlist!
I hope this all makes sense.
    Thanks

I guess I could stream the music when I'm wanting my playlists. It just seems weird to have to stream the exact same music that's already on the Apple TV itself.

  • Won't sync music library

Just upgraded computer. Moved itunes library, all songs appear in the new library, but the iphone won't sync the songs. It has chosen 300 of the 900 rather randomly, i suppose, since it used to have over 600, and won't change them. I deauthorized the other machine before reformatting it.

ok, I finally figured it out. I had itunes match turned on and also I only thought I had moved the songs to the new computer. They still needed to be downloaded from the cloud. So, after a few hours of frustrating attempts at everythign I could think of, I finally got it. They are syncing to the phone now. So, word to the wise, make sure you have downloaded them from the cloud and make sure itunes match is off on your phone. I thought those features were supposed to make this easier? Hmm.

  • Please, please help-can't sync music library

Hiyas. I made the dreaded switch from Mac back to PC today, and my ipod nano was Mac formatted. Before I plugged in my ipod, I downloaded itunes and authorized the new PC. When I plugged in my nano, itunes informed me I'd have to reformat to Windows and now my library is gone with all of my music with it. I just want to transfer all of my itunes purchased music to my ipod using itunes without having to use an external hard drive to do it. Is that possible at this point? Thank you so much!

    Peon25 wrote:
My preference is to manually manage my music, and not let iTunes take control of it -- the Apple software can't screw anything up if I don't let it have access to my files, ya know?
This issue has nothing to do with manually managing or not. As mentioned, Windows can't read a Mac formatted iPod. Reformatting will delete content on an iPod whether or not you manually manage your music.

Were you ever able to solve this problem? If so,
how? If not, did you see the same slowness copying
the files in Windows Explorer from the NAS to the
    iPod?
No I wasn't. To be honest I have essentially given up as even if I can fix it, disk space is cheaper than life is long!
Using the NAS in general is no problem. In fact, once iTunes got beyond the initial working out of what needed to be removed from and copied to the iPod, having all my MP3s on the NAS and copying direct to the iPod was no issue.
Following some sage (and frankly scary!) advice at ilounge (http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=163611), I've decided to keep two copies of my MP3s. The fact that my fiendish NAS plan has failed is hurting more than the not-all-that-traumatic reality of duplicating 140GB of files if truth be told!

  • Will I be able to copy my music library from my PC to I pad and listen to it at a remote place without sync and without I tunes match?

Will I b able to copy my music library from PC to I pad while sync and listen to it without sync at a remote place. Is it possible without iTunes Match?

Yes. As long as all your songs you lost have been Matched or Uploaded to iTunes Match you can download your entire library from the cloud.
It might take some time though
