Syncing music on 2 different iPods/music libraries w/o importing the CDs twice ?

Hello to you all support community,
Here's the thing : my brother and I bought together the full 2009 Beatles remaster box with their complete recordings and all.
We both have an iPod and separate iTunes libraries on separate accounts on the same Mac. Here's the really stupid thing : if we both want to have the 2009 Beatles remaster on our iPods we need to have it on both libraries on both accounts, thus we need to import the CDs twice, once on each account, once for each iTunes library !
That makes no sense : the data (a few gigabytes worth of music) will be written twice on the very same hard drive, where we only bought the music once, for the both of us. Sharing libraries does not fix that at all as it does not enable cross-syncing of parts of our music. And we don't want to share an iTunes library because we don't have all of our music in common, nor do we want to share an account for similar reasons.
What is there to be done ? Is it a matter of author rights violation ? That won't change anyways, because the result is the same : the music from CD or set of CDs is synced twice on two different iPods, wether we import it twice on two different libraries or find a way to share the music and then import it just once. Thanks for helping !

No, not on this computer as i only copy the music i want from this library to my iPod.
Yes i am managing it manually by copying it myself and now i wanted to switch to syncing the music only.
The Sync Apps is currently checked but when i try to uncheck it it said to remove all my apps from the iPod.

Apple specifically did not enable ipod to computer transfer so as to prevent people from getting music from friends (which in the majority of cases is illegal).

  • I have tried loading 3 different cds that I just bought into Itunes and I click the import cd button and it goes through the motions of importing the cds, but when I go to my library none of these cds is there.  Help, please!

I have tried loading 3 different cds that I recently purchased into Itunes.  I click the import cd button and Itunes goes through the motion of copying and importing the cds, but the songs are not in my music library.  I have searched everywhere to find where these cds might be, but to no avail.  Could really use some help here.  Never used to have this problem.

Are they in the relevant artist & album folders when you look via Windows Explorer. If so something may have gone wrong with the index of the Music playlist. Download the current iTunes Free Single of the Week. I know it sounds odd, but it should fix the problem.
If that doesn't work close iTunes and delete the hidden file sentinel from inside the main iTunes folder, then start iTunes again. It should run a consistency check when it starts up.

  • How can I sync music libraries between our 3 MacBooks

How can I sync the iTunes music libraries between our 3 MacBooks?

Whenever you update one iTunes Library be sure to copy it to the other two computers. It goes in the /Home/Music/ folder. You can probably does this easily over your local network using File Sharing.
Copy the most recently changed iTunes Library folder to a USB flash drive. Use the flash drive to copy that library onto the other two computers.
Use a backup/sync utility to update each computer over your local network.

  • Syncing music libraries

I have 3 macs with 3 unique music libraries on 1 network. I would like all three libraries to look exactly the same. Is there a way to compile the libraries on a exernal hardrive such that any duplicates can be eliminated, and then re-import the compile library to the three computers?

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately I am not able to access the other pc to be able to copy the music across, is there any other way that this could be done as the songs are all on my current iPhone 4S?

  • Ipod touch won't sync on laptop but different ipod will sync

I'm having some issues trying to sync my wife's ipod touch.  She's had it for a couple years and we haven't had any issues with it before.  She purchased a couple songs recently and when we connected the ipod a message came up saying there was a software update available for the ipod so we downloaded the update.  After we did that her ipod will charge when we connect it but it won't register that it's connected so we can't sync it.  Sometimes an error message will pop up saying something about not being able to connect.
I have searched online and tried everything suggested but nothing works.  I downloaded the latest itunes update, uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, tried a different usb cable and different usb port and non of that worked.  I even hooked up my ipod nano to see if it was a computer issue or ipod issue, my ipod syncd perfectly fine so it's gotta be a problem with her ipod.
I've also restarted the ipod, nothing will get it to sync.  The ipod will still work and I've thought about trying to sync it to our my laptop but if I do that then I risk her losing all of her music on her ipod and being stuck with mine if we can't get it to sync with her computer.
I'm all out of ideas, anyone encounter this problem?  Also if I bring it into the Apple Store is there anything they can do to try and fix it?
    Thank you.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

I make my selection and can see the Capacity updating with the selections made.
But then the only option i have is to click "Revert".  I can see the "Apply" button, but it is greyed out - and cannot be selected.

  • My iPhone 3 with 6.01 wont sync music from my computer.  The new iTunes software seems to be missing tabs like DEVICES that other folks mention.  What up?

Yesterday, I updated (6.01) both my phone and my computer's iTunes at the same time.  I was thinking that was iTunes v11, but maybe it was 10.5, didn't pay close enought attention.  All the music was removed from the phone's iPod, and all of the music extracted from my CDs onto iTunes went away as well, although the purchased music stayed.  Unplugging and resynching from the computer did not cause the music to re load on the phone. From reading various other discussions, I think that I am missing several tabs from the iTunes header, specifically "Devices".  One fellow mentioned Devices/Music/SyncMusic as a fix, but after several minutes of searching for hidden buttons, there just isn't one on my iTunes.  Help!!

Ctrl + B puts the top menu in place.
View > Show Sidebar the devices when connected appear in the left hand window.
Select your device and on the right hand side selecth the music page option. Tick Sync Music and then either sync it all if you have space or sync selected playlists etc.
Select the Artists, Playlist, Albums Genre's you want and click apply bottom right

  • Itunes not letting me sync music which I've downloaded from CDs. Only taking music purchased on iTunes. WHAT IS GOING ON? Help

iTunes is not syncing new music from CDs that I've downloaded only syncs music purchased from iTunes. Is this on purpose? Or another flaw with updates? Anyone have suggestions or fixes?

I'm having the exact same problem, a total pain in the a$$. I tried restarting my computer and my iPhone to no avail. I have a MacBook pro and iPhone 4S and both are totally up to date software-wise. I would really like to listen to my music though.....

  • I have two different iPods.  How do I connect the new one to iTunes?

I now have two iPods - a 30GB iPod I purchased about a year and a half ago which plays music, Audible books, and has photos slide show capability plus color screen. Yesterday I collected enough credit card points to afford the new 5th Generation iPod. Yeah, I'm an iPod addict. I wanted the video capability. So now I have it. My question is:
Do I have to download iTunes again, or can I connect my new iPod to the iTunes that I have been using for my other iPod? I can't find the answer to this question anywhere. Also:
Can I connect the new iPod on the same computer as my old iPod is connected on without getting confusion on the iTunes site and on the iPod?

Ya, you can simply connect it to your current iTunes and go. More info here...
